*BEN POV*
After we enjoyed the rest of our stay in America, we proceeded to Haiti in order to bust the Fiendish Five's Chief Mystic; Mz. Ruby.
I honestly felt kinda bad for her. She grew up in a family of mystics, which made it hard for her to make friends since they were put off by her 'creepiness'. She turned toward reanimating the dead for companionship and grew to use her talents for evil to get back at the world that shunned her.
Despite my sympathies towards her, she was still committing terrible crimes with her powers and needed to be stopped. I could the rest of the guys were on board with it.
When the gang finally arrived at the swamp that Mz Ruby was rumored to be at, Sly and Ben exited the van and proceeded on foot through the swamp in order to get to Mz Ruby. And when they got to the first hurdle, that being the vines, they easily used Tennessee Kid Cooper's Rail Walk Technique to get across.
"It's official, I think Tennessee is my favorite of your ancestors, Sly."
There were more slick and slippery vines up ahead but thankfully, the Rail Slide Technique proved invaluable to the thieving duo. As they were moving through the area, a spider came down from out of nowhere, making Ben scream like a little girl and shoot it dead with his pistol, green blood splattering everywhere.
"Really?" Sly asked flatly as Ben blushed in embarrassment.
The duo head onward and soon came across another safe. Ben used his magic fingers to crack it open and Sly retrieved the Thievius Raccoonus page inside. It was Kelle McCooper's Electrical Raccoon Roll, an upgrade to Old Sally Cooper's Raccoon Roll that turned the technique into an offensive attack.
Because the author isn't a big fan of this level and because he's not following the way of jumbochamploonrules' story and redeeming Mz. Ruby, both Ben, and Sly just proceeded through the areas, got the Treasure Keys, and collected the Thievius Raccoonus Pages.
"AWESOME! Pages detailing the adventures of your Scottish Ancestor, Sleigh MacCooper!" Ben cheered when he and Sly busted open the safe in the area where they had to take out a lot of fiery totems.
"I remember reading about him!" Sly excitedly said. "He was so strong, he could smash through any lock with a single strike!"
"We are SO reading more about him later!"
After a sequence of events where Sly and Ben had to run away from a horrific dragon serpent thing, they retrieved the next page of the Thievius Raccoonus and these ones were written by Sly's grandfather, Bruce O' Coop.
"Grandpa..." Sly said fondly. "He was a master computer hacker and he had the ability to hack any computer he came across, even ones that were around when my father was doing his thieving businesses."
"Sounds like Bentley would benefit more from this than you or me...though maybe..." Ben rubbed his chin, an idea forming in his head.
"Gugh... I... I think I'm gonna need a shower... after this trip..." Ben gagged as he made his way past a waterfall filled with corpse parts and filth.
"Yeah, I know it smells bad, but dead bodies are the only way to fuel my excess mojo magic, Chile." Mz. Ruby's voice suddenly spoke in Ben's head.
"Oh my god, you're in my head! Are you seeing what I'm thinking right now?!"
"Yes. And you should be very ashamed of yourself."
"I get LONELY, okay?! A guy can only go on for so long when his other friends are the same gender as him...even though I wouldn't mind getting it on with another guy."
"You definitely are a funny little boy. I look forward to making you my plaything~."
"In your dreams, lady!" Ben said, shaking off Mz. Ruby's voice from his head as he continued on his way, soon finding the safe and opening it up to get at more pages of the Thievius Raccoonus, this time detailing the Slow Motion Technique of Matthew de le Coopeur.
Wanting to see if he could try using it to his advantage, he found time slowed to a crawl around him while he still moved at normal speeds. Smirking, Ben then made his way to the Treasure Key, collected it, and immediately made his way back to Sly while vowing to take a 24-Hour long shower after going through a river of body parts and shit.
On the plus side, due to the mission that Sly was doing on his end, he smelled like Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's finger-lickin' good!
Ben and Sly soon made it to Mz. Ruby's lair, where the alligator woman in question was waiting for them.
"Hmmm...I can feel that Cooper Vibe a'comin'...Most distastefully bad juju!"
"Yeah, well you give us the creeps too, lady! Cooking up an army of ghosts and zombies isn't really a neighborly pastime."
"That and I had to go through a river of shit and somehow come clean on the other side like I was in the Shawshank Redemption!" Ben said while shuddering after the ordeal he had to go through. "Look, you seem like a nice lady, let us have the Thievius Raccoonus pages you're holding and we'll call it a day."
Mz. Ruby chuckled before giving Sly a sympathetic look. "You know, Chile. You actually have a really good friend on your side."
"Well, what else? He comes from the same place as me in a sense."
"Quite true, quite true...but there's more to him than either of you boys know. You're connected in a way you might be surprised."
"How do you know? What does that even mean?" Ben asked curiously. Mz. Ruby was quite the trickster and he and Sly both knew they needed to take her words with a grain of salt.
"I don't wanna spoil much. But I will tell you this; Both of your families were very good friends. I saw the bond of blood with my mojo magic."
Sly and Ben wanted to be surprised but they also felt like it made sense. After all, both of their families were master thieves, it would make sense they had probably teamed up and formed a bond.
"Huh, if that's true, then I guess me and Sly have been best friends even before we met at the orphanage..." Ben said softly.
"Me and my partner The Panda King made sure Sly got into that orphanage...we couldn't really live with ourselves after what the boss did to his parents."
That got Sly shocked but Mz. Ruby had already given him and Ben the Thievius Raccoonus pages that she held.
"Wait, why are you just giving us these without a fight?"
"Because when I looked in Benny's head...I actually felt touched that he would feel bad for little ol' me. He's got a good heart for a warmblood."
"And you're pretty warm for a coldblood yourself, lady. No wonder Muggshot fell for you."
Mz. Ruby giggled as Ben and Sly made their leave while she stayed behind to let Carmelita and her forces arrest her.
*Sly POV*
I guess that was actually pretty easy. It was still pretty nice news to know that my parents and Ben's were old friends and that Mz. Ruby had actually been one of the people who brought me to the orphanage where I met him, Bentley, and Murray. I guess not all of the Fiendish Five were as evil as we thought they were.
The pages Mz. Ruby gave us detailed one of my very first recorded ancestors; Slytunkahumen, who used his patented Invisibility Technique to hide from the corrupt Pharaohs and greedy noblemen he stole from. He even helped Moses lead the Hebrews out of Egypt!
With the treasures collectively stolen from Raleigh and Muggshot, the gang and I decided to take a little trip to the Bahamas for some rest and relaxation...and also so Ben could properly bathe himself after the ordeal he went through.
Yeah, Vicious Voodoo is my least favorite level in Sly 1, even though I don't play the games myself. I wanted to get this one over with as fast as possible. I hope that's okay with everybody reading this.
