The stars above them beamed onto the employee parking lot of BurgerTown. Duncan was intent on hearing every part of his co-worker's rant. Their heads rested adjacent to each other's on his car's hood.

"…I swear, I'm quitting the next time someone demands a refund with an empty plate."

Duncan jokingly responded, hoping she wasn't entirely serious. He decided he wouldn't get used to not seeing her face on weeknights before they attended their respective schools. "Okay now you're being ridiculous, Courtney."

"Excuse you," Courtney retorted, grabbing more reject fries from the cup between them. "I can be as dramatic and ridiculous as I want outside of work hours." She laid back on the hood of his car after stuffing them in her mouth. "You can't stop me."

She licked the remaining salt on her lips when she turned to him expecting a witty response. He was gazing at her in all of his composure. Her chest returned the feeling with warmth radiating through her chest. The bright yellow beam of the restaurant sign made his eyes look bluer than she usually noticed. Courtney didn't realize she was holding her breath until she attempted to speak again.

"Would you leave with me if I did?"
