Sorry this took so long. I wanted to make this chapter JUUUUUUUUUUUUUST right, okay? Also, something to keep in mind in the future, I like to imagine Catra and Adora were 19 at the end of Season 3 (As said by the creators of She-ra, Catra and Adora were 17 or 18 at the beginning of the series and aged throughout it) and since 4 years passed in this story so far, that means Catra and Adora are mentally age 23 years old! So, yeah, for those of you who want a crossover ship them with Izuku and Bakugo, DON'T! The two girls see them as little kids, nothing more, okay? Now, on with the story!
Prologue 4: Reunion
"A-Adora…?" Catra's heart felt like it's about to stop. Her body shakes as tears ran down her face. 'Why is she here?!' The catgirl backed away slowly before swiftly turning around. The blonde reached out. "Catra, wait!" The catgirl froze, feeling a warm hand gripping her arm. "Can we talk? Please?" It felt like there was a knot in Catra's throat. "I-I…." "Please…?" "Adora, I can't—"
The two girls heard one of the teachers clap their hands to get everybody's attention. "Okay, everyone! Gather around!" All the other kids sat in a circle around the teachers. Catra and Adora looked at each other briefly before the kitten ran off to sit next to Izuku in the circle. The blonde followed her afterwards. She sat next to Catra, only for the catgirl to move over slightly. "Good morning, everyone!" The woman said. "I'm Ms. Hisakawa…" The woman then gestured to the man, who raised his hand and waved. "And this is Mr. Matsumoto!" "Hello there!" "Today is a very exciting day for everyone!"
Catra wasn't paying much attention to the teachers. Out of the corner of her eyes, she sees Adora sitting next to her. 'Dammit! Why? Why?! There are literally billions of people living in this world! The odds of us meeting is slim… And yet... Why…? Is this karma? Okay, just because she's here, doesn't mean I have to talk to her, right? It's not like she'll forgive me anyways… After everything, how could she? Ugh, this is so dumb… Maybe there's a way to change classes? I could talk to mom about it.'
She then felt someone tap her shoulder. "Moriichan?" Snapping out of her thoughts, Catra looked around. Izuku was the one who tapped her shoulder. Everyone else was staring at her. Did she do something wrong? The teachers gave her a concerned look. "Oh dear…" Ms. Hisakawa said. "Were you daydreaming?" "U-um…" Catra didn't know what to say. Mr. Matsumoto bend down slightly. "We were taking turns introducing ourselves. Would you mind telling everyone your name?" "Oh, um, I'm Moriko…" She mumbled. "There's no need to be shy." The teacher said reassuringly. "Everyone here is a friend." Catra fidgets uncomfortably. She can tell, this was going to be a long day. "Would you mind telling us a little bit about yourself?" Ms. Hisakawa said. "Well, I have a mom, a dad and two little sisters. My dad… He works as a Pro-hero…" All the kids in the room gasped before some of them started muttering to each other. Izuku, however, was excited. "Wow! That's so cool Moriichan! Which hero is he?" The catgirl felt her confidence rising. She briefly looked at the boy before giving him a smirk. "He's the Jungle Hero: King Tigris!"
"I bet he's not as strong as All Might." A new voice spoke. Catra's ears twitched as her eyes locked onto one of the kids in class. A boy with spiky blond hair and angular red eyes.
"What makes you so sure?" Catra glared at the boy as he gave a cocky smirk. "Because All Might's the strongest there is! Everyone knows that!" Catra hissed at the boy. Just then, Mr. Matsumoto spoke up. "Now-now, Katsuki. All Might may be the Number One Hero, but Moriko's father is a great hero as well."
"How about we move on to the next person, shall we?" Ms. Hisakawa said. "Aiko, you're up next." Catra noticed Adora flinched when she heard that name. 'Oh, that's her name, isn't it?' The kitten thought. Adora cleared her throat before she spoke. "My name is Aiko. I have a mom, a dad and a twin brother. H-he's not here now since he's sick, but once he's getting better, I hope… You guys can get along with him…" Adora's voice became quiet as she mumbled a bit at the end. Ms. Hisakawa nodded. "Well, once he gets better, he's welcome here." Catra was puzzled. The mumbling, the quiet tone, the stutter… Why did Adora sounded so down? 'Damn it! This is gonna bug me unless I talk to her, huh? This really is karma!' Catra quietly groaned in frustration.
After class introductions were finished, recess came around. While most of the kids spend their time playing and having fun, Catra decided to drag Adora away from the crowd for a one-on-one talk.
At first, they silently looked at each other. Adora was the first to spoke. "You've changed since I last saw you. You know that?" "Have I?" Adora nodded. "You have. Just a little bit." There was a pause between them before Adora spoke up again.
"Hey, Catra. Did you miss me?"
"W-what?!"
"Did you miss me? I kinda want to know."
"I-I'll… I'll answer your question if you answer mine. Deal?"
"Deal."
"Is your brother really sick?"
"Ha… It's that obvious, huh?"
"Kinda, yeah."
Adora hesitated for a moment. "The truth is… Well, my brother has cancer…" "WHAT?!" Adora quickly placed her hand over the catgirl's mouth. "Shhh… Not so loud!" "But this is serious! Is he okay?" "He's getting it treated. The doctor said they caught it early, so he should be okay." Adora sighed. "It's just, he's my brother. I've been with him for so long that… Not being with him feels… off… and if the surgery goes wrong then… Th-then…" Her voice started to crack. "I wish I could help him, but I can't even turn into She-ra anymore. All I can do is wait..."
"Adora…" Now Catra felt bad for asking. Before she could say anything else though, the blonde took a deep breath to calm herself down before she continued talking. "You know, I can still remember our time as babies. In fact, he was the first thing I heard when I came into this world…"
Four years ago…
When Adora first came to, she felt like she was wrapped in a blanket of some kind. She wasn't sure how she got there though. After all, last time she checked, she was tied up by Catra.
'…Am I dead? It doesn't feel like it...' Adora tried to move, but it was difficult. She then heard a baby crying nearby. 'H-huh? A baby? What's a baby doing here?' Adora turned her head slightly towards the sound. 'Hey... Please don't cry... It's okay. Everything's gonna be alright... I'll make sure of it. Just gimme some time to figure out what's going on. There's gotta be somebody around here, right?' She tried to speak, hoping that someone can come and give her answers, but all that came out was a baby's babble. 'Hm? Wait, I can't... I CAN'T TALK?!' She then heard heavy footsteps. A large figure walked past and picked up the crying infant.
"Shhh... Akio, you'll wake up your sister..." '...Sister?' Adora moved her head further to the side. It was then she realized she was surrounded by large white bars. 'A cage? No, this looks like a... crib? Why?' Suddenly, she felt herself being picked up.
"Honey, Aiko's awake." A man's voice said. "Really? She didn't cry?" "No, she didn't." Adora looked around. The crying infant was being held by a woman with long, wavy blonde hair and brown eyes. She was laying in bed, wearing a hospital gown. The man holding her had brown hair and blue eyes. 'Hey, wait... What's going on?' "Should we be worried?" The woman asked as she breastfeeds the now quiet baby. "She looks alright." The man said. "Babies usually cry when they need something, right? I'm sure she's fine." '"Babies?" There's more than one? Wait... Don't tell me... Am I-!? Whoa!' The man sat down on a nearby chair, cradling Adora in his arms. She looked up at the strange man. 'Did the portal do this? Is this an illusion? If so... I... I have to fix this... But how?' The previous warrior princess saw the woman placed the baby boy back in his crib. Adora sighed internally. 'I can't really do much as a baby. Am I supposed to wait until I'm grown-up again?'
Present Day…
"It was the same for me," Catra said. Adora looked at her, intrigued. "Really?" "Yeah. I was scared at first and a little embarrassed." "Embarrassed? Because you were a baby?" The catgirl blushed. "W-well, yeah! You weren't?" "Well, for a while, I thought everything around me wasn't real. I mean, how could something like this happen? But when I realized that world was real, I come to accept it as my home." "Would you want to go back to Etheria?" Adora thought for a moment. "If there's anything left, then yeah, I would, just for a little while. After all, I have a family now. I can't leave them forever."
The blonde then made directed eye-contact towards Catra. "Alright, now it's your turn!" She said. Catra tilted her head slightly in confusion. "My turn?" "You need to answer my question. Did you miss me?" Catra turned her head away, avoiding eye-contact, look at the ground. "Fine, I did, okay!" She said in a frustrated tone. "I missed you! But to be honest… I was scared." "Scared? Of what?" "Of you hating me! And after what I did, why wouldn't you hate me?" Catra sighed before she continued, her voice became noticeably quiet. "Give me one good reason why…" "Well, because of you, I have a brother." "It's not like I did it on purpose." Catra continues to avoid eye-contact.
"I guess…" Adora thought for a moment before continuing. "You know it's been four years since we last seen each other, right?" "Yeah, so?" "It means that I had four years to think about what I would do if we met again. It's true that you destroyed Etheria, that's not gonna change. But look at it this way. You made a mistake and paid the price by losing your old life. Now, you can start over. And I really want to put everything behind us. That is, if you're willing?" The blonde held out her hand. "Adora, do you mean it?" Catra reached her hand out slowly. "Of course!"
Catra was hesitant. A part of her was worried, what if she messes up again? However, the moment her fingers brushed against Adora's hand, there was no going back. Her warm hands wrapped around hers, almost like it's easing her pain.
"Hey, Adora?"
"Yes, Catra?"
"What do we do now?"
"Whatever we want, I guess? We're kids now, so maybe we can play a game?"
Catra felt a mischievous smirk crept onto her face. "In that case…" The kitten playfully tapped the blonde on the shoulder before running off on all four. "You're it!" "H-hey, come back!" Adora giggled as she gives chase.
After recess, everyone returned inside. It was time for a nap, so all the kids were placed in a cool, darkroom. No windows or lights, the ground was filled with several futons, pillows and blankets. Normally, Catra wouldn't mind taking a nap in the middle of the day. However, her body wasn't tired yet. No matter how hard she tried, she can't get to sleep. The kitten carefully got up and crawled toward Adora, who was lying across from her. "Psst! Hey, Adora? Are you awake?" The blonde groaned as she sat up. "I am now…" "I can't sleep." "Do you… wanna sleep next to me? I mean, we use to do that back at the Horde-" Catra blushed before immediately backing away. "What?! N-no! I just wanna talk. Okay?" Adora nodded.
"Alright. What do you want to talk about?"
"Anything, really. Just to tire myself out a bit."
"Well, okay then. Why do you lay down and tell me about your family? After all, you already know about mine."
"Um, o-okay." Catra lay down in her futon, her hair spread out onto the pillow as she stared at the ceiling. "Like I said, there's my mom and dad, and my two little sisters, Madara and Haya. There's also my grandma and grandpa. And—Oh, Melog! I haven't told you about them, did I?" "No, you didn't. Who's Melog?" "Well, they're like us. Melog was reborn into this world with all their memories. They have this power where they can change to whatever form they feel like. They usually take a form of a cat. But… I don't think they're from Etheria…" The catgirl's ears twitched as she heard Adora hummed quietly, as if she's lost in thought. Catra continued afterwards. "Now that I think about it, I never bother asking them about their past. I guess it doesn't matter now." "Maybe one day, you can introduce us?" "Yeah, maybe." The kitten yawned as she rolled over. "Tired now?" "Y-yeah…" She said as she closed her eyes and her consciousness drifted away.
Catra didn't know how long it has been since she fell asleep. The world just felt timeless in that dark room. It was only when she heard a familiar voice when she was fully awake. "Moriichan! Aiichan! It's time to wake up!" It was Izuku, who apparently woke up before them. The kitten groan as she pulled the covers over her head. "Can't… Still sleepy…" However, she heard Adora whispered to her. "Come on, Catra. Everyone else is already awake." "Ugh… Fine…" Catra slowly got out of her futon and sluggishly walked out of the darkroom. Upon entering the next room, Catra noticed the kids were getting ready for lunchtime. Everyone was sitting at their tables, opening their lunch boxes. Catra went to the cubby room and brought her bento box out from her little red backpack. Adora and Izuku came in afterwards. "Come on, Catra." Adora held the sleepy kitten's hand. "Let's go eat!" Catra groaned. "So tired…" "I got some hot chocolate, that'll wake you up." The blonde said with a soft smile.
Unlike having lunch at the Horde's base, here definitely felt different. Everyone was laughing and smiling. Catra's nose twitched as she smells the scent of hot chocolate through the air. Adora poured the liquid out of a thermos and into a cup. The girl handed the cup to Catra. "Here!" She said. The catgirl took a few experimental sips before gulping it down.
It was sweet and warm…
