Sonic had always bottled everything up. It was just easier. But when his mental health begins to decline, the master Emerald gets fed up and sends knuckles to help the teen. When Trauma suddenly comes to light, Sonic's friends must make this kid realise that it's okay to not be okay, and help him work through the pain.

4. New begginings

The war was over. Everything was fine. Repairs were going smoothly and Robotnic had been injured so badly he lost his memory and now made toys for children. Everything was fine. Absolutely fine.

That's what Sonic told himself as he curled into himself. The darkness of his bedroom was suffocating, but he refused to turn on the light. Everything was fine, he told himself, as memories of hands slid around his neck, down his side, and in between- Everything is fine.

Even after he clamped a hand over his mouth so sobs wouldn't wake the fox kit in the room adjacent to his. Even as the oppressive darkness threatened to swallow him. Even when mismatched eyes burned into the back of his mind, he told himself that it was all fine. He was just imagining it. He was okay, he was Sonic the Hedgehog, hero of Mobius, he didn't have trauma.

On unsteady legs the teen heaved himself up and onto his bed. He curled tightly under the covers, hoping to leave the memories outside, like a child hiding from ghosts. That's all he was really, a child hiding from the ghosts of his past.

Sleep never came that night, but that's alright. Sonic was happy to busy himself with making coffee and getting his little brother fed before going out on patrol.

"Did you get enough to eat?" The hedgehog asked, running his hands though the Fox's fur.

"Yup! More than enough!" Tails smiled brightly. Sonic vowed to himself, like he had a million times before, that he would gladly die to make sure that smile never faded. Even with nights like the one before, or months in- it doesn't matter, after all that, Tails made it all survivable.

"Okay, lunch is in the fridge make sure to-"

"Yeah, yeah." Tails interrupted.

"Don't you 'yeah, yeah' me, young man! You and I both know the many times I've caught you never leaving your workshop to even eat!" Sonic retorted, his eyes leaving no room for argument.

The kit huffed. "Fine."

Sonic smiled softly to himself before turning away and stepping out into the sunshine. Yeah, everything was fine. Today was going to be a wonderful day.
