This one is pretty intense, so just be warned.

You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for

...

"She's still in there! Callen, I have to go get her!" Deeks screamed as Callen and Sam drug him away from the burning building.

"Let the firefighters get her! You can't go back in there! You'll die!" Callen yelled as Deeks twisted violently in his grip.

"I have to!" With one huge jerk, powered by adrenaline-fueled strength, Deeks broke away and raced back into the burning building. Callen and Sam watched in horror as he disappeared into the smoke.

"KENSI!" Deeks screamed through the fire, searching frantically. Beams fell all around him, the heat was searing. An ember landed on his arm, and he screamed. He brushed it off and continued to run, searching frantically for her partner. "KENSI!" Deeks collapsed in a heap, coughing violently. He crawled on his hands and knees, the skin of his hands burning in pain, the hot ground burning holes in his knees. He kept screaming for his partner, but nothing. He coughed again, and his vision grew blurry as he slowly lost conciousness.

Outside, Sam was alerting the fire chief that Deeks had gone back inside when one of the men came running out of the building, a young woman cradled in his arms. Callen ran towards him.

"Sam! They've got Kensi!" Callen yelled behind him as he met the firefighter. "Here, let me take her!" he shouted over the sirens, gently slipping his arms underneath and taking his teammate from the man.

"IS anyone still in there?!" The firefighter yelled over the din.

"Yeah, one more guy! He went in looking for her!" Callen shifted Kensi in his arms as he turned towards an ambulance. The firefighter went running back into the building. Kensi coughed in his arms, looking up at him with swollen eyes.

"W-where's D-Deeks?" she asked frantically, struggling in his arms. Callen tightened his grip on her.

"Relax, Kens! They're going to get him out, okay? Just relax!" Callen held her close to her chest as he walked to the ambulance, where paramedics immediately surrounded them. "Gently, gently!" Callen shouted as they took Kensi from him and placed her on a gurney, placing an oxygen mask over her nose and beginning to buckle restraints over her body.

"DEEKS!" Kensi screamed, shooting upright, eyes wild, throwing punches at the paramedics, ripping the oxygen mask from her face. Callen raced to her as the EMTs scrambled to calm her down. "I'm not leaving until I see that he's alright! I'm not leaving! Callen, please don't let them take me away! Callen, where is he?" She reached for his hand, and he held it out and she clutched it.

"Kensi, I won't, but you have to settle down. Let the doctors do their work, alright? Deeks went back in to get you. They're gonna get him out, okay?" Kensi looked at him, unmoving, her eyes frozen in fear. Callen took hold of her shoulders, shaking her once. "Kensi!"

"Yeah, yeah, okay," Kensi said, eyes filling with tears. She allowed Callen to push her back down as one of the paramedics readied a light sedative.

"This won't put you to sleep, okay, miss? It will just calm you down."

Kensi nodded as someone fitted the mask back over her nose and mouth. Her eyes were still frantic as she glanced over to Callen, who was still by her side. Someone, she couldn't see who, tugged one side of her jeans down, and plunged a syringe into her hip. She tensed and groaned.

"C-callen, I w-want D-deeks," she whimpered as her eyes grew heavy and she entered a half-awake state.

"I know, sestra, I know," Callen, said, rubbing her hand.

...

"We've gotta get our men out of there!" the fire chief yelled over the din, looking at Sam. Sam looked down, but nodded.

"I understand, sir," he said grimly.

"I'm sorry, Sam," the chief replied, laying a sympathetic hand on his shoulder.

"I know, sir," Sam replied.

...

Deeks was mildly aware of a big hand beneath his head, sliding down to his shoulders, and another one sliding beneath his knees. He was lifted into the air, head cradled against a canvas shoulder. A heavy fireproof coat was slung over his body, and the figure who was holding him turned and ran out of the burning building. Deeks opened his eyes as he was carried out of the building, water wetting his face as he was taken under the hose's spray.

"I got him! I got him!" the man holding him shouted. Deeks looked around, eyes wild. Everything was too much, too loud, too bright, too painful. His hands felt like they were on fire. His right ear felt as if it had melted off. He squeezed his eyes shut against the flashing red and blue lights, and the yellow and orange of the flames.

"W-where's K-kensi?" he stuttered out. "W-where is s-she?"

"Just a minute, sir, we'll get you all fixed up," the firefighter said.

"W-here is Kensi?" he asked again, fiercely.

"We're going to go find her, okay, sir?" the man holding him replied, shifting him in his grip.

"O-okay, okay," Deeks said with a nod.

"Here! Let me take him!" a voice said, a big hand sweeping hair back from his face. He was transferred to a larger person, big strong arms cradling him close to their body. "S'm?" he asked, opening his eyes to look up at the figure holding him.

"Yeah, Deeks, it's Sam. We're gonna go find Kensi, alright?"

Deeks nodded and closed his eyes, leaning his head against Sam's chest. He was set down a moment later on a gurney. An oxygen mask was placed over his mouth, and he was buckled onto the stretcher.

"Kensi," he said, rolling his head from side to side, trying to see her. "S'm, I n-need K-kensi."

Sam reached for his hand, squeezing it.

"I know. We're going to go find her."

"W-when?"

"Soon," Sam replied as an EMT approached him.

"Sir, we need to move him to a hospital immediately," she said.

"Okay, put him under," Sam said, turning away from Deeks. When he turned back around, Deeks eyes were wide, disbelieving. The look of betrayal on his face made Sam's heart hurt.

"No, no," he whispered as someone administered a sedative and he was unconscious soon after.

...

"Kensi, we've gotta take you to the hospital now," Callen said, squeezing her hand.

"N-no, C-callen, I need D-deeks," she said adamantly as Callen motioned for someone to administer the rest of the medication that would out her out.

"I'm sorry, Kensi," Callen murmured, brushing hair back from her forehead as her eyes closed and she slipped into unconsciousness.

...

Kensi awoke to a bright white hospital room. She blinked her eyes, taking in her surroundings. She herself was laying in a bed, clad in a hospital gown, numerous parts of her body wrapped in thick white bandages. She could feel one against her hairline, and the back of her neck. Her left arm was bandaged, and so was her torso.

There was a blood pressure cuff wrapped around her unbandaged right arm, and an oximeter clipped to her forefinger. An IV line was sending fluids and meds into her body via catheter inserted in her left arm, and an oxygen cannula was strung up her nose, feeding oxygen into her system. Various monitors and nodes were connected to her chest, lines stringing out the collar of her gown, connecting to various machines.

She scanned the room. It was your basic hospital room, except for one very important feature. Deeks was lying in the bed next to her.

"D-deeks," she stuttered out, smiling as she coughed. Deeks' eyes fluttered open, and he rolled his head towards her. He was much in the same shape she was. He had the cannula, and the IV, and the various monitors. The palms of his hands were bandaged, the gauze weaving in and out between his fingers. He had a piece of gauze taped over his right eye and ear, blocking half his vision and half his hearing. His bangs were singed, much shorter than they usually were, and the eyebrow she could see was gone.

"Hey, P-princess," he murmured, coughing after he spoke.

"You...okay?" Kensi asked slowly, trying to hold back her own bout of coughs.

"I'm fine," he replied.

"Callen told me... you went... back in for me," she murmured. "Why would..you do that?"

"Because I.. love you," Deeks replied, smiling. Kensi smiled.

"You could... have died," she said firmly. Deeks nodded.

"I..know," he replied. "I know. I would...die for you.. if it meant you...got to live."

Tears welled in Kensi's eyes as Deeks went on.

"I'd do...anything for you," he said, truthfully, breath wheezing in his throat.

Kensi couldn't say anything, she was too overwhelmed with emotion

"Hey, baby...don't cry," Deeks murmured, rolling over and reaching over a hand. She reached out and squeezed it.

"I wish...I could kiss you," Kensi murmured, scrubbing at her eyes with her other hand.

"Well...who says you can't?" Deeks pulled at the various wires attached to him, ignoring the screaming of the machines as he rolled out of his bed, grunting.

"I don't think..."

Deeks cut her off by pressing his lips to hers. Kensi leaned into the kiss and sighed, both in bliss and relief. It was good to be alive.
