This idea is more of a 'crack' idea, but I would put some plot into it, and things would change due to what happens.
Summary: I never mean to be late, things just happen. Whenever I told people of whatever's been holding me up they decide it's to crazy for it to be actually true, and this happens so much that I decide to make a joke out of it. It's very amusing to see people so annoyed by my tardiness even though I try my best to make it on time. Maybe my new students can understand?
This is a fic where every excuse that Kakashi uses for his tardiness is actually true. I got the idea for this because sometimes when I'm out walking around the neighborhoods I go around and help people if they seem like they need it, and this idea came to my head.
I put this in the 'crack' category because its just Kakashi going on the absolute weirdest adventures for no other reason than because he inadvertently caused it, or he can clear up a future problem right then and there. His memories of Obito also play a role of Kakashi going along with whatever happened.
I'm planning a number of ideas for this fic. Him becoming the pope of a new religion based on lightning because a lot of townsfolk saw him cut through lightning bolts using Raikiri and thought he was a demigod, to him writing a now best selling novel and now has to sign hundreds of copies of the damn book he wrote in a drunken stupor.
Every mission plays out in the weirdest way, and he uses every skill in his repertoire to maximum effect. He's copied more than just jutsu over the years. He can blast out A Rank water techniques, but did you know he could absolutely shred a guitar? Nobody else did until he attended a concert during a mission and decided to try and get more info via 'pleasing the crowd.'
The moment he sets foot out of his home is the moment he's swept away for a new adventure, and he's glad he has so many things to keep him occupied or he might've broken.
He won't spend years sitting in front of a cold stone filled with the names of the dead. No, here he'll become infamous in every town and village for one reason or another. Seen as the man who ate your mom's pound cake and lived to tell the tale, or the fastest pancake maker Kirigakure has ever seen.
This is the man of a thousand jutsu yes, but this is also the man of a million experiences. Kakashi broken? There's too many things he needs to do for him to wallow in sorrow. Standing at a grave for hours on end? Sorry, but he has a sermon to host before he can think of something other than 'How did I get here.'
Kakashi has many words he lives by. "Those who break the rules are scum, but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum." being his teammate's, "Look underneath the underneath" was his sensei's, but he heard one from an old man once. A man wiser than the Sandime which seemed impossible until you met him. "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present."
Kakashi may want to look back, but with his life being the whirlwind it is he has learned to move on. With him now living in the present after so long, the world may not be ready for him but damn it he isn't either.
Kakashi's well and truly lost and he doesn't mind it. Why? Because he's Lost on the Road of Life.
