Chapter 4: Waterpark Blues

The team had managed to make it through their first work week with toddler Spencer. Now it was finally the weekend and they had big plans. "Alright does everyone have their swimsuits on and bags packed? We're leaving in five minutes!" Hotch called out to his team. They were going to spend the day at the waterpark as Spencer had never gotten the chance to go as a child. "Yes, sir!" Garcia said excitedly. "Are you so super pumped my little one?" she asked Spencer. "Yes! Yes! Yes!" he cheered. "Let's hit the road! JJ, Will and Henry will meet us there," Hotch informed. The team rushed out the door in excitement and into their cars. Once the team leader had his son buckled into his carseat, they were off to the waterpark.

"Okay, let's set a few rules for the boys. Spencer and Henry, you need to be with an adult at all times. Do not go wandering off alone. Understood?" JJ lectured the two 4 year olds. "Yes ma'am!" the boys cheered. "Alright mama, now that the rules have been covered. How about you and the ladies go set up chairs and tan while us men hit the slides," Will suggested. "Say less," Prentiss laughed and the women headed off to find the perfect tanning spot.

The rest of the team spent most of the day having a blast. They had gone down nearly every slide and were now in line for the lazy river. "Now boys, this is a classic. The lazy river-" Morgan's sentence was cut short when he turned around to see only Henry. "Woah, Hotch. Where did the kid go?" he asked, turning toward the men. "What do you mean?" Hotch asked. Soon all of the men were racing through the waterpark, calling out the toddlers name. "Oh God, what if someone took him?" Rossi asked in panic. "Actually, I don't think we have to worry about that," Will informed, gesturing to his left. The men looked over to see Spencer attempting to shove coins into an arcade gambling machine. "Spencer Reid! What the hell were you thinking?" Hotchner called out, running towards the boy. "Kid, you had better have a damn good explanation as to what possessed you to run off from us like that," Morgan barked. "Oh, I-I-I just got bored and so I went to l-look for something else to do…"Spencer trailed off, quickly realizing the gravity of his offense. "You all can head back to the lazy river. Henry was excited for that. Spencer and I are going to have a chat in the family restroom," Hotch explained, giving his son a stern look. The med nodded and started back toward the ride.

"Wait daddy, I'm sorry! Please don't give me a spanking!" the toddler pleaded with his angry father. "I'm glad you feel sorry for running off, Spencer. But that does not get you out of a punishment. Do you even understand the things that could have happened if we would not have found you when we did? You could have been kidnapped or sex trafficked or even killed!" Hotchner lectured. "I'm sorry. I guess I wasn't really thinking about that…" Spencer admitted, staring at his feet. "Well, I'm gonna make sure that you think about it next time. Now, come over here," Hotch sighed, pulling the boy over his lap. Spencer immediately began crying but Hotch paid no attention to it. The man began raining down smacks on the small bottom across his knees. After about 20 smacks, Hotch slipped his thumbs underneath the toddlers waistband. "Noooo! Daddy please! It already hurts!" Spencer cried out. "I don't wanna hear it, Spencer. Spankings are supposed to hurt," Hotch stated, brushing off the boy's request. He continued pulling down the swim shorts, leaving only a bare bottom on display. Spencer was crying much harder at this point. However, his dad did not let it phase him. He spanked the toddler's bare bottom 20 more times before resting his hand on his back. "Okay, buddy. Your spanking is over. Can you explain why you earned that consequence?" he asked. "Cause I ran off without t-telling anyone a-and I-I could have been kidnapped," the toddler bawled. "That's right. Now pull your shorts up and sit here on my lap," Hotch cooed, losing his stern attitude. Spencer did as he was told and then cuddled against the man's chest. "I'm so sorry daddy," he sobbed. "Shhh, you are forgiven. I'm not mad at you. I don't enjoy spanking you, Spencer. And I know you don't enjoy being on the receiving end. So, I hope that you have learned your lesson and we can avoid another sore bottom," Hotch chuckled, rubbing the boys back. "Now, let's go find the others. Maybe we can go to the wave pool!" Hotch tickled the boy, gaining a small giggle in response. Spencer clung to Hotchner's hand as they made their way back to the team. Although Spencer hated being spanked, he was quite happy with his new father figure. He had never had a dad that made his love and care so obvious, even if that came in the form of discipline sometimes. Plus, he couldn't stay sad for long. He had a wave pool to experience!
