I own nothing you may recognize
AN: Very AU, as you shall see things are vastly different than cannon. In part because some things in cannon are dumb, like using muggle transport to get to Diagon Alley when there are portkeys, sorry.
Hogwarts will start in a few chapters, and Christmas, I think is when Harry returns to the Woods.
July 31, 1991
"I'm a what?" Harry asked the Giant of a man who had burst into the hut in the middle of the sea, after he had given him a letter, like the ones that those he had been trying to get ahold of for weeks.
"You're a wizard, don't you know what a wizard is?" The man asked shocked.
"Is that like Morgana La Fey or Lady Nimue, they seem to be powerful, but they are only fictitious," Harry said sadly.
"Well, I guess like the dark witch, I aint never heard of that Lady Nimmy you mentioned, but we don't talk about the dark witch, some still fear her," The man said softly.
"Wait Morgana was real, and why is she called a dark witch, she was good, only tried to help her brother," Harry said confused.
"Yeah, she was real, but she did nothing good, only tried to destroy Hogwarts and kill Merlin, she did, which is why no one talks bout her. But you really didn't know bout magic, ye never wondered how ye got your scar?" The man asked amazed.
"Not really, Mr. Hagrid, just thought it was from the Car accident or one of my cases of clumsiness," Harry said simply.
"No Mr. Harry, and what car accident?" Hagrid asked confused.
"The one where my parents died, and left me orphaned," Harry said simply.
"Ye parents didn't die in no car accident. Dursley!" Hagrid said turning to glare at the three others in the shack.
"We promised we would stomp the freakishness out of him, but he kept doing it," The largest of the three said cowering.
"Harry, your parents saved your life from a dark wizard, who was terrorizing the world, and you stopped him, so you're famous," Hagrid said shocked.
"Wait, what? You know never mind I can ask more later, I suppose, so where am I supposed to get all of these things?" Harry asked motioning to the list of items that his letter said he needed.
"Yeah, that would be best we get on with it, Professor Dumbledore wanted me to take y by nonmagical means, but Professor McGonagall gave me a portkey instead, said it'd be faster so ye can see more, and while I rarely would oppose the Headmaster, I think the professor is right in this instance," Hagrid said simply.
"Um, Hagrid, what is a portkey exactly?" Harry asked cautiously.
"Ah, yeah, this is a portkey, it allows ye to move from one place to another, just using a special word, in this case well take it and then I'll say it," Hagrid said extending a rope to Harry.
"Okay," Harry said grabbing his letter and the rope.
"This will be a bit uncomfortable, Lightning," Hagrid said before activating the portkey.
"Well, I don't think I want to do that again anytime soon," Harry said after standing up from falling due to the spinning of the portkey.
"It aint never fun, but gets easier the more ye do it," Hagrid said simply.
"Okay, so where are we going, first?" Harry asked noticing they were in the middle of an empty alley.
"First we need to go to Gringotts bank," Hagrid said simply.
"Crud, I don't have any money, how will I afford all of this stuff?" Harry asked starting to panic.
"Don't ye worry, your parents didn't leave you nothing, they have a vault for you," Hagrid said as he led Harry to a huge building. As they passed the owlery a snowy Owl came flying out and landed on Harry's shoulder.
"Um, Hagrid did you order a bird?" Harry asked slightly nervous due to the large raptor on his shoulder.
"No, where did the owl come from?" Hagrid asked shocked to see the bird, before a man came out of the owlery.
"Hagrid why am I not surprised, that owl on your young friend's shoulder just left my shop, do you want to come into my shop to bring her back in?" the man from the shop asked and got glared at by the owl, who then turned and glared at Hagrid as if to say, don't even think about it.
"Actually, Archie, how about I just buy the owl, and we can come by later and get supplies for her," Hagrid said feeling surprisingly scared of the owl.
"Well, if you are sure, she is a mean bird, she has attacked everyone who has approached her since she showed up at my shop a few years back, it'll be 10 Galleons," The man said also scared of the bird that was glaring at him.
"Alright, here ye go," Hagrid said after shuffling through his pockets for a few minutes before pulling out 10 gold coins and handing them to the shop owner, to which the owl nodded after seeing the transaction take place.
"Hagrid, I'll pay you back for her, she is beautiful," Harry said softly as he started to pet the bird.
"Don't worry bout its Harry, consider it a birthday present, now let's go to the bank," Hagrid said simply before guiding Harry into the not noticing the owl lightly bite its leg before biting one of Harry's fingers to cause a sharing of blood.
"State your business," A short man said as they approached the counter.
"A withdrawal for Mr. Potter," Hagrid said simply.
"And does Mr. Potter, or his familiar have their key?" the short man said in a bored tone.
"I have it, right here," Hagrid said as he fished in his pockets until he found a small gold key and placed it on the counter.
"And why does one Mr. Hagrid have Mr. Potter's key?" The man asked his voice getting slightly colder.
"Professor Dumbledore gave it to me," Hagrid said simply.
"And why did Mr. Dumbledore have Mr. Potter's key, and did Mr. Potter give one Mr. Dumbledore permission to have his key?" The man asked turning to Harry at the end.
"Uh…" Harry said before hearing a female voice in his head.
"No, you did not, he should not have had it, tell that to the goblin," The voice said quickly.
"Uh, no, he did not have my permission Mr. Goblin," Harry said deciding to trust the voice though confused where it came from.
"Thief than, Guards take Mr. Hagrid to our cells, he is a thief," The man at the counter said coldly, before a woman with Red hair seeing a commotion walked over, with a younger girl with similar features.
"Is there a problem here, Master Goblin?" The woman asked respectfully.
"Just taking a thief to be our cells until an investigation has been complete, Madam Bones," The goblin said with the same level of respect.
"I'm sure that Hagrid is not a thief, Master Goblin," Madam Bones said simply.
"Then why would he have the key to Mr. Potter here, without his permission?" The goblin retorted, as Hagrid started to resist.
"Oh, I was not aware of that, I will not cause an obstruction of justice then," Madam Bones said simply, causing Hagrid to realize that she would not help him and stopped resisting, knowing it would only make things worse.
"Thank you, Madam Bones, while we are investigating this theft, it appears Mr. Potter is a bit confused could you aide him and return in three hours so we can report our findings, to Mr. Potter," The goblin asked seeing Harry look completely confused.
"Of course, Master Goblin, though is there a way for Mr. Potter to make a withdrawal from his account before the investigation occurs?" Madam Bones asked kindly.
"Due to the investigation that needs to occur, we will need a drop of Mr. Potter's blood, and then we will give a complementary 100 Galleons, that will be subtracted from his account once the investigation has been complete," The Goblin said simply.
"Mr. Potter, would you consent to give a drop of your blood to the goblins so they can verify your identity?" Madam Bones asked Harry who looked confused for a moment before nodding.
"Who are you?" Harry asked in his mind, while Madam Bones was discussing with the goblins.
"I am Hedwig your owl and familiar, dummy," The female voice said in reply.
"Wait my owl can talk in my head?" Harry asked confused.
"Well, I can't talk out loud can I, Hadrian?" Hedwig asked sarcastically.
"Who is Hadrian?" Harry asked confused.
"That is your name, damn, your stupid relatives really did a number on you, now stop zoning out, Madam Bones just asked if you would give the Goblins a drop of your blood to verify your identity, nod so you don't seem like you are completely out of it.
"Thank you, Mr. Potter, please touch this stone, it will take a single drop of your blood. If you are actually Mr. Potter, we will give you this bag of galleons, which should more than cover your school expenses, but if not, you will join Mr. Hagrid until we see who you really are," The goblin said simply.
"Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm Mr. Potter, or at least I hope I am," Harry said before doing as the goblin had directed and was shocked when the stone flashed white before returning to the previous black.
"Indeed, and now we are sure you are who you say you are, here is this bag be back no sooner than three hours from now, but no more than six hours from now and we will discuss the results of our investigation further," The goblin said handing Harry the large bag.
"Well, Mr. Potter shall we go, I assume you need to get your school supplies?" Madam Bones asked kindly.
"Yeah, but I don't have the smallest inkling of an idea on where to go first," Harry said sheepishly.
"Not a problem, my niece Susan here, also needs to get her supplies. But before we get started, I have two questions, first and foremost what do you enjoy doing, are you a major seeker of knowledge of more of a sports fan. Second, humor my curiosity, but where have you been the past 10 years?" Madam Bones asked as she led Harry and the younger girl who looked like her out of the bank.
"Why do you ask?" Harry asked cautiously.
"The first question is to see where we should go last, since if you are a seeker of learning you would likely take the most time at bookstore, but if you are a sports fan than the quidditch store would likely take more time," Madam Bones said kindly.
"Um, what is quidditch, I have never heard of that before," Harry said confused by the term.
"It's the most popular sport in the wizarding world, so would I be safe to believe you were raised outside of the Magical world?" Madam Bones asked carefully.
"Yeah, I grew up with my aunt and uncle," Harry said slowly.
"As in Petunia?" Madam Bones asked shocked.
"Uh huh, why?" Harry asked confused.
"Your mother is rolling in her grave, her and her sister had a major falling out during your mother's third year, and from that point on Petunia swore she would never speak to your mother again," Madam Bones said sadly.
"Wait you knew my mom?" Harry said shocked.
"Indeed, she and I created a unity club, to counter the two biggest political clubs on campus the Pureblood Purity club, and the Advancement is Progress club. We along with Severus Snape started the club to bring ideas together from both sides of the spectrum. Sadly it is my understanding that the club is more or less defunct anymore," Madam Bones said sadly, as they walked past a store that had fumes coming out of it, and a man with dark robes stopped and walked over to them.
"Did I hear my name mentioned?" The man asked approaching them.
"Severus, it has been too long, I was just telling Mr. Potter here about how I knew his mother," Madam Bones said recognizing the man immediately.
"I had been told Rubeus was supposed to helping Mr. Potter find his supplies, Amelia," Severus said raising an eyebrow.
"Well he had a bit of an incident at Gringotts, so I am helping Mr. Potter get his supplies, since I was already doing so with Susan.
"Stupid Oaf, well Mr. Potter, Ms. Bones, I am Severus Snape, and I am the Potions Master at Hogwarts and the professor of that subject, seeing who you are both related to I expect you to have an understanding of potions, since both of your mothers were amazing at Potions," Severus said before turning to walk away.
"One quick question before you leave Severus, were you aware that Mr. Potter was left with Petunia?" Amelia asked quickly.
"WHAT! You lie, Tunney hates magic, what bastard would leave a magical child with her, especially after she married Vernon Dursley a renown muggle for trying to reveal our kind to the muggle world," Severus said coldly.
"Wait, Mr Potter was your uncle Vernon Dursley?" Madam Bones asked turning to Harry.
"Yes Ma'am, is that why he said he was trying to beat the freakishness out of me?" Harry asked slowly.
"Severus," Madam Bones said giving him a knowing look.
"If he wasn't Lily's son I wouldn't, but I owe Lily too much, I'll see what I can do, but I want something from him in return," Severus said with a sigh.
"Um what, and what do you want me to do for whatever this thing is?" Harry asked confused by the lack of verbal communication.
"I'll explain later Mr. Potter," Madam Bones said simply.
"Mr. Potter, I would that you reorganize the Progression Strengthens Traditions club, that crumbled shortly after your mother's passing," Severus said simply before nodding and walking away.
"So that was weird, Auntie where are we going first?" the girl asked after Severus walked off.
"I think it would be most wise to start with the Trunk shop, before we get the rest of your supplies," Amelia said before leading them to the trunk shop, where she directed both of them to get multi compartment trunks, and explained why they would be useful, despite their heavy cost of 35Galleons, following getting their trunks they gathered the rest of their supplies before returning to Gringotts, seeing as how their shopping, in large part due to the bookshop. Though getting Harry's wand was a chore in and of itself, since the wand that Ollivander had expected would work for him, did kind of, but not fully so he had to change the wood from Holly to a Black Sycamore Fig, a variety of wood he said he had never worked with before, and which prompted Madam Bones to also suggest they buy wand Holsters which Ollivander did somewhat unwillingly. In total however their shopping had taken them close to five hours, so after Madam Bones shrunk all their belongings, they chose to return to Gringotts.
"Welcome back, Mr. Potter and familiar, Madam and Ms. Bones," The goblin they had spoken too earlier said as he saw the trio enter the bank.
"Master Goblin, what was the results of your investigation?" Madam Bones asked approaching the counter.
"I am not at liberty to disclose that here, however if Mr. Potter would permit it, you could come with him to hear the results of that investigation," The goblin said simply, looking to Harry.
"Of course Master Goblin," Harry said simply.
"Very good, then follow me," The goblin said before leading them a ways into the bank and through an arch of what looked like it was water until they passed through and they felt nothing on them.
"Excuse me, master goblin what was that arch?" Harry asked as they continued walking.
"That young Mr. Potter is the deceivers' despair. If any means of obscuring or altering one's appearance are in use, they are washed away by the magic. This includes Metamorphmagus are forced back into their base form. It also emits a tone that only those who dwell within the earth can hear if any are present," The goblin said simply as they continued walking.
"Thank you, that makes sense Master Goblin," Harry said respectfully.
"You would find that we are willing to answer questions, so long as they are asked with respect, and asked, you will find that many wizards either fear asking questions or demand answers, neither of which are welcome here. Now in this room is your account manager Agnuff, and she will explain the results of the investigation to you, and answer any other questions you may have. Do be aware that she has spent over 100 years being your family account manager, so this investigation really upset her," The goblin said before opening the door and after the three and Hedwig entered the closed the door behind them leaving them in the office with a new Goblin.
"Mr. Potter, Regent Bones, Heiress Bones, as my nephew said I am Agnuff, and I am the Potter Account Manager, please sit, we have much to discuss," The goblin at the desk said, gesturing to the three chairs available.
"Heiress, and Regent Bones?" Harry asked as he took a seat.
"Yes, Heiress Bones, since she is heiress of the Most Ancient and Most Noble House of Bones, and her aunt is the Regent, due to the late Lord Edgar Bones being Heiress Bones father, and since Heiress Bones is under 14 and so can't take her place as Lady Bones, but that does not matter right now, since that is Brodkor's responsibility, unless he is doing a poor job and you would rather me take over your accounts," Agnuff said looking at Madam Bones inquisitively.
"No need, Account Manager Agnuff, Brodkor does a mighty fine job as our account manager," Madam Bones said simply.
"Good, I would be rather put off if my son was a failure, but that is beside the point, before we move forward with the results of the Investigation, I would like to do a simple inheritance test for Mr. Potter, and if he would like, for him to take up his heir ring or rings," Agnuff said with a smile.
"That would be a good idea, Hadrian," Hedwig said in Harry's mind as he sat confused.
"Okay, yeah let's do that," Harry said following Hedwig's guidance.
"Very good, to do that simply place your hand on this stone and it will take a single drop of your blood to see what families you are tied to," Agnuff said placing a stone in front of Harry who did as directed.
Name: Hadrian James Potter
Father: James Fleamont Potter deceased
Mother: Lilliana Rose Potter neé Evans deceased
Sworn Godfather: Sirius Orion Black III Imprisoned without Trial
Sworn Godmother: Alice Longbottom neé Crouch Crutiatus curse induced coma
Heirships: Potter 1st, Black 1st , Pendragon requires acquisition of sword Excalibur, Flamel 2nd, Longbottom 3nd, Crouch 4th
"Interesting, I had not expected to that, but very interesting none the less," Agnuff said looking over the sheet.
"May I take a look at it?" Madam Bones asked respectfully to Harry.
"Sure, here," Harry said after looking at the sheet.
"Wow, this brings up quite a few questions," Madam Bones said simply.
"What Auntie?" Susan asked confused.
"Well first, apparently Sirius Black went to prison without trial, for a crime he couldn't commit, and somehow there is an extra member of the Crouch family I am not aware of, my understanding of that family is there is only Barty and his daughter who is in a coma, though her son should be starting Hogwarts with you," Madam Bones said simply.
"Indeed, that is what our legal records say as well, I am rather confused by Pendragon, but it says it requires Excalibur and since no one has seen that sword since the Founding of Hogwarts, who knows," Agnuff said simply.
"One question, if this Sirius guy is alive, how am I first in line to be the heir, or is he the lord?" Harry asked softly.
"No Arcturus is still alive, but if I remember reviewing the Wizengamont Records correctly, during the war he made a change to his family creed that no one who had been put in prison for life, whether proven innocent later or not, could not become head, he did this in hopes it would keep at least one member of his family out of jail. However from my understanding the only member of his family not too was Andromeda, but she was cast out by the former heir, his son Orion who has since died 10 years back," Madam Bones said after a few minutes of thinking.
"Oh, okay, Account Manager, before I become Heir Black could I meet Lord Black?" Harry asked softly to the shock of both Agnuff and Madam Bones.
"Of course, I will send him a missive and see if when he can come, be aware though he may hate you, since your defeat of the dark lord did cause many of his descendants to go to prison," Agnuff said quickly writing and sending a note off.
"That's fine, because if he hates me, I might not want to become the heir of his family. Now should we get into the investigation results?" Harry asked respectfully.
"Of course, so first we found that Mr. Hagrid also had the key to one of Lord Nicholas Flamel's Vaults, which he said he had also gotten from Mr. Dumbledore, we are currently waiting a response from Lord Flamel to see if he approved of this action. Then we did some digging into your vaults and found a number of withdrawals from the past 10 years, and since you seemed very confused, we assume you did not approve of these withdrawals," Agnuff said looking to Harry for confirmation.
"No, I didn't even know I was a wizard until this morning," Harry said simply.
"How much did the total of these unauthorized withdrawals account to, because this may become an issue under my purview as well, if I might ask," Madam Bones asked simply.
"In grand total 10,000 Galleons, along with a few priceless books, and all the family portraits, from the time of Linfred of Stinchcombe," Agnuff said after Harry nodded.
"10,000 Galleons is no small amount, do you have record of who withdrew the funds?" Madam Bones asked eyes wide.
"Wait they took portraits, like the ones in the Alley that talk?" Harry asked shocked.
"Indeed Mr. Potter, the portraits had been held in Potter Manor until the middle of the last war when your grandfather had them all placed in the family vault to protect them, and not a day too soon since less than a week later, he and your grandmother were killed and the Manor burned to the ground, as to your question Regent Bones, we do not have that on record, but we do have which tellers helped each time and so we will be interrogating them, to make sure such a thing does not happen again," Agnuff said sadly before a note appeared on her desk.
"Please keep me informed, on that," Madam Bones said kindly.
"Of course, and it appears that Lord Black happened to already be in the bank and is willing to meet with you now if that works for you Mr. Potter," Agnuff said after looking at the note that she had received.
"Yes that works for me, as long as Madam Bones can join us," Harry said hopefully.
"I don't see any problems with that, now follow me," Agnuff said respectfully standing up and directing the four to follow her.
