Day 4: Reincarnation AU
Summary: The one time Mikasa got reincarnated and the other time that she liked the world she reincarnated in
She was fifteen years old when she started to remember the life she lived in her past life, the despair, the sorrow, the smell of rotten flesh and fresh blood… It was unbearable sometimes, it made her cry most of the nights, tears spilling from her eyes so hard that they burned
It made her go back to the always stoic facade she wore back then when she lost her parents, with the only difference that now they were alive and very worried about her sudden change, not having a clue of what was happening with their once outgoing, sweet and lively daughter
The nasty car accident they got involved in just made things way harder, not only put her mental health in danger, but also her physical one too
The sudden blackout that came with the loud crash of metal with metal was enough to made her go back to the life she once lived, as if being sent back to that world where life was a precious and yet an unaffordable thing to have, a life where even with all the hardships she had to stand, she still wanted to go back, it just felt so right to her
When you get your own children, you will have to pass this symbol to them...
It's warmth, isn't it?
Would you like to live with us, Mikasa? After all, you have been through a lot...
What… what am I to you?
Have you thought about what are you going to do once you find him?
I'll wrap that scarf around, as many times as you want! Forever!
- Forever… - It came out of her as a weak whisper, her chest feeling uncomfortable but warmth at the same time, the lights of the room almost burning her eyes
The sudden loud gasp from her left made her turn her head, making her look directly at the eyes of her mother, seated on a chair beside her bed, alongside her father - S-sweetheart! Are you alright!? Oh my god, Thomas! Go get a nurse now! - Said her with voice trembling and eyes at the brick of tears
It took ten minutes, but in the end, her designed doctor came, a tall, brown long-haired man with a little bit of facial hair and circled shaped glasses, a brown-eyed woman in a nurse suit right behind him
Just looking at them almost made her cry again, It could have been a long time, but she will always remember them
- You are a tough cookie, you know? Not many people can live 10 minutes with their heart pierced, it was a miracle that you weren't that far away from this hospital… - Started him, a solemn smile on his face, looking at the clipboard on his hand - Looks like the surgery went well, that's a relief… We still need to do some checks up, so we better start now -
Hearing uncle Grisha's voice was like going back in time, it brought her a nice sense of nostalgia, it just lacked the acknowledgment of being recognized, because, for some reason, both he and the nurse failed to recognize the little girl they took care in their past life
In the end, everything went fine, the only thing feeling out of place being the way he checks up her heartbeat, like he was taking all the time of the world just for that
The doctor asked her parents to come with him to talk about some private matters, almost leaving her alone in the room, if it wasn't for…
- Would you like something to eat, miss? - It was the nurse, speaking for the first time since she entered the room, using the soothing voice she could never forget
- No thanks, I… I don't think I can eat anything right now - Shyly she answered, not wanting to cause more trouble
- Oh, I get it, still, don't you want something? like, anything to drink? - She offered again, and she wasn't sure if she could stand being treated nicely by her without being recognized anymore
- A… a bottle of water would be nice - She said in defeat, not feeling like dealing with her, she already knows how was she when it came to taking care of people in need
By the time she drank half the bottle, the nurse spoke again - Now, don't like you are obligated to do it just because I did you a favor but, Could you please do something for me? - stethoscope in hand, she came closer to her this time - Can you let me hear your heartbeat?
She found herself speechless for a couple of seconds, not being able to understand why would she asked for something like that
- Yeah, sure - Still, she couldn't say no to her
The look on the nurse became brighter by the approbation, and was fairly quick to put the far end of one of the limbs of the instrument right above of the place where her new heart was supposed to be, the warmth that she felt earlier becoming stronger every second
Several seconds passed, and just when she was about to ask why would she want to check on her heart, she heard the little sobs, muffled by her hand, the other one near her heart shaking, it was the same expression like the one got on that day when everything went downhill
- Are you okay? - Words leaving her mouth way quicker than intended
- Y-yes, don't worry about it, I'm perfectly fine… it's just… it's just that I'm glad to hear my little one once again - Taking the instrument out, she let out a sigh of relief, trying to stop the tears from spilling
Her little one?
No
It can't be true
No way..!
- Is… is this heart from someone you know? - The worlds almost piercing her new heart, like threatening to open a wound as her last one had
- Yes… It is my son's heart, Eren… - Sniffling a little, she erased the trail of tears in her face - He… he died a long time ago... By a still unknown degenerative decease… His heart was the only thing that survived-
Hearing that only gave her a headache, like the one she got when she realized that his life span was cut to less than 8 years, how is it possible? Why when she was given another chance to be happy, the life itself made her want to suffer again?
- I... I'm sorry to hear that… - Maybe what it hurts the most was the fact that she couldn't tell her that she knew him without being seen as a madwoman, there were no connections with him besides her own memories after all,
She reached for the place on her chest where his heart was beating, faintly but strong nonetheless, she could almost feel it like if it was right beside her ear
- I told you, don't worry about it, sweetie, I already made peace with it… - Securing the medical instrument around her neck, she stood up - I'm very sure I am crossing at least some boundaries by asking this to you, considering we just met a few hours ago but… Take good care of it, please…-
- I will - Once again the words leaving her mouth way quicker than intended, like making up for silent nod she gave her the time she made her a promise she couldn't keep in that life
She woman just nodded, giving her a small "thank you", and with that, she left the room, leaving her alone
Alone to wonder why is this happening once again
Alone to grip the clothing covering her chest with all her force
Alone to muffle the screams trying to escape from her mouth, while her eyes go dry from all the tears she's letting out
Alone
Alone once again
OMAKE
She was twenty-five years old when the memories came back, this time the ones where she lived a peaceful life the most predominant, leaving the ones with the bad memories very hard to see, making her scared that she was forgetting it
This time, however, Captain Levi (well, Uncle Levi, actually) was with her, and was kind enough to let her know that since she once was an Ackerman, her memories and experiences will never be erased, instead, they will be locked insider her head, waiting for the right time to be unleashed, just like the power she once had,
Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the normal people
It made her feel bad on the inside, since it felt like most of her precious memories were taken away from her, like if the fact that she wasn't enjoying the life she desired the most despite everything that happened to her wasn't good enough, meanwhile everybody else just won't be able to remember
Just when she was about to start a rant right inside her mind, she was met with the sensation of someone walking into her, knocking her on her ass
- Sorry about that, Are you okay? - She heard, the manly voice bringing a wave of memories she thought they were lost
It can't be
The long brown hair tied into a bun was proof enough that It can be indeed, the broad as muscled back the tall man in front of her once again seeming too familiar
Wait
His back?
- I'm actually right here - Was the only thing she said, this time getting from the ground and dusting off her black skirt, waiting for him to turn around
- Yeah, well, I'm sorry but this is the best I can do, It's kind of difficult trying to talk to people face to face when everything is dark… - Turning all the way but not quite facing her he said, this time letting her see the pitch-black glasses he was wearing, along with the stick he had on his hand
Oh
He was blind
- I'm sorry - A bashful expression took over her face, making her look to the ground - I wasn't aware… -
- Don't beat yourself about it, It's not usual to encounter people like me, I get it - A little smile made his way to his face, his eyes probably shining along with his teeth despite not being able to see them - Now if you excuse me, I have to go… -
- Wait - She reached for his wrist his time, like every time she did when he was about to do something dangerous, despite being the only one able to remember their past - Isn't dangerous for people like you to be alone on the street? Don't you have like... someone watching over you? -
- I was with a friend actually, but by the time we went inside a crowd I think he got lost… - With his middle finger, he scratched the underside of his jaw
- He? But you are the one who is blind! Do you actually know where you are going? -
- Pff, of course I know, I may be blind but I'm not hopeless! Beside, he was the one who told me the medical center was 2 blocks straight when we were walking, I'm sure as hell I'm near... -
- Well, I'm sorry for being the one telling you this, but you are going on the opposite way… -
- … Goddamit - Red took over his face, and turning away, he straight into the left side of where he was supposed to go
- Here - Taking his her with her own one she chained them together - Let me guide you -
He was about to retort, she could tell, If this Eren was anything like the one she knew, she was sure that he would never let anyone treat him like a child, let alone a stranger
In the end, he let out a sigh in defeat - Thank you, I really appreciate it, Miss… What is your name? -
- Mikasa… Mikasa Ackerman -
- Mikasa, huh? - He scratched his chin, letting out an inquisitive hum - Not sure why, but it sounds kind of familiar… Have we met before? -
At this, she couldn't help but feel like believing in life itself once again - Maybe -
And then they fell in love and got married and got seven kids of each gender, the end
I actually didn't think about making this "omake" when I finished writing this prompt, but I felt kind of bad ending it like that considering how the ending of the manga was, so yeah
and yes, I know EreMika week ended like 2 weeks ago, but I'm still doing this no matter what
and just if you are curious, I'm not doing the Historical AU, since I can't think about a good idea for that one, sorry If you were looking for it
PD: I would like to thank all the people that left their favs and follows, and especially to the 2 people that left their reviews, the last time I updated this fic it only got 1 follower, and it makes me happy that there are people enjoying what i am writing, so once again, thank you so much
