Chapter 4-Epilogue
Hector went the next morning to turn in his internship paperwork. His advisor made plans to go talk and see Luke on Thursday. John, his advisor, told Hector that as long as there was someone in authority they could check in on it was ok that Luke would be on his honeymoon. John was grateful that Hector asked instead of springing it on him. Once Hector was done with John, Hector called Luke and told him to expect John on Thursday lunchtime. Luke was grateful for the information.
John came and spoke to Luke on Thursday. Both were glad to meet each other and John checked all of the paperwork Hector had brought him. John explained that he would be calling Luke to check in and make sure there were no real problems once a month. He said he knew about Luke's honeymoon and that wasn't a problem and if the monthly call happened while Luke was away Luke could just call when he got back. Luke was happy to hear it would all work out. John stayed and had lunch and raved about his hamburger. John knew he had found a new spot for lunch and would be back often. Not to check up on Hector or to make him nervous but more because it was a damn good meal at a very fair price.
Hector stopped in and spoke with Luke and was happy to see John there. It saved him a phone call. John explained that everything was good and Hector did not have to worry about his internship. He was si happy everything worked out ok. Hector wouldn't admit it but he was nervous John would find a reason to object or something else. After checking in wth John and Luke Hector went to look at the two apartments Patty mentioned as well as Lane's place. Hector liked the place on Peach street the best and was thrilled it was so reasonable. He signed a lease starting December 1st. This worked out well as he needed to be out of his current place by December 15th. Everything was going in the right direction and Hector was thrilled. Hector went home to pack his apartment as he was going back to Miami for Thanksgiving to see his family. He felt better about being able to go with his life taking shape and his new apartment waiting for him. While he enjoyed seeing his family and he missed them he also was excited to be back in Stars Hollow. It was the start of everything he worked so hard for.
Hector moved and everything worked out well. He was fitting in and was a great help. He enjoyed learning all the ropes and took his job seriously but also enjoyed his time being there. He wanted to learn everything. He asked a lot of questions and was so happy Luke was willing to teach him. Luke moved about 3 weeks later and he felt comfortable leaving the diner to Cesar with Hector there to help. The new house was much bigger and Luke and Lorelai enjoyed decorating it together.
The holiday season was crazy busy and even Hector was impressed by how many people came in and out of the diner. It seemed like there was a revolving door on the diner. They were going through so much food it was crazy. Hector was grateful Luke knew how to order for this and was willing to teach him everything.
The rest of the winter quieted down some but was still a great learning experience for Hector. He had so many questions and Luke was happy to answer all of them. Luke's wedding and honeymoon came and went. Luke had closed down the diner for the day of the wedding as everyone who was anyone would be at the wedding. Hector was happy to go see his boss get married. He hoped he would find someone to settle down with someday too.
With the return of spring came more festivals. Lane was right; it seemed like there was one every weekend and the diner was always busy. Lorelai was put on bedrest the end of April. She was not happy but understood it was the best thing for their family. The babies 2 boys and one girl came early on May 12th. All of them were healthy and happy and Lorelai was amazing. As expected Luke spent more time home with his family and Cesar was happy to take Hector under his wing and help him learn the business in Luke's absence.
When Hector's 6 month internship was over Luke asked him to stay on indefinitely and gave him a nice raise. Hector still felt he had a lot to learn and that he owed Luke so much. He wasn't ready to leave and stayed. He really enjoyed small town life.
Hector stayed with Luke and Cesar at the diner for 5 years until he felt he was ready to start up his own place. Luke was sad to see him go but understood he was never supposed to be there forever. Hector had become a lifelong friend of the Danes, Morgan's and everyone in town. Hector would truly be missed.
Hector ended up moving to Chincoteague, Virginia and opened up a small diner on Main Street called "Good Eats." Lorelai, Luke and their kids as well as Cesar and his girlfriend were all there as a surprise for opening day. Hector was beyond moved that everyone would be there for his first day to support him. Hector's place was very successful. Everyone was happy to come have a meal. Many said it was like coming home to family. Luke and his family would visit often as the kids loved to see the wild horses that lived on the island. And truth be told they missed their Uncle Hector.
Hector met Selene while walking on the beach looking at the horses. They became fast friends that grew into a loving relationship. When they decided to tie the knot Hector asked if William and Charles could be the ring bearers and Katherine could be the flower girl. These kids were like his own and Hector loved them. The kids were thrilled to be included. Hector asked Cesar to be his best man and Cesar was honored. It was a beautiful affair. They were married on the beach they met at. And they even had some pictures with the wild horses in the background. It was an amazing affair and an amazing time had by all.
And to think this all came together for a girl needing a better place to sleep and a good meal. Good friends, Good food and great memories. Everything that everyone needed but didn't realize.
