Crunch, crunch, crunch.
Sasuke woke up, blinking around blearily and confused. The sun hadn't risen all the way yet, and the yellow beaming light of sunrise mixed with the blue glow of the pool, making the interior of the guest house a greenish hue.
"What the fuck Itachi?" He groaned, rubbing his eyes, struggling to open them all the way.
"Wrong brother."
Sasuke snapped up, eyes open.
Naruto Uzumaki sat at his counter, leaning back in the bar height stool, tennis shoed feet on the granite. He held a box of unsweetened corn flakes.
"Your cereal sucks." Naruto added.
"What are you doing in here?" He groaned, rolling his shoulders.
"What are you doing with Hinata?"
Sasuke rolled out of bed, ruffling up his hair, trying to push it out of his eyes. "Who?"
"Don't fucking play games with me." Naruto voice sounded like a snarl but his face stayed relaxed, bright eyes and his silly smile. "I thought we were friends."
"Who says we aren't?" Sasuke shrugged.
Naruto was his friend. One of his only.
"You fucking around with my ex says a lot."
Sasuke pursed his lips. He thought this might happen. Naruto had a special power of getting in his way. Especially when it came to her.
"Well, I could say the same thing about you."
That was the first time he saw Naruto's face change. The smile fell almost completely away but snagging on the corners of his mouth. "I didn't really take you as the TikTok type."
Sasuke finally managed to stand up, stretching upward through a yawn. "It's the most popular app in the world. I think a lot of people saw you get dumped, idiot."
Naruto lips twisted a little, almost grimacing, but also physically shrugging it off with his shoulders. "There's worse ways to go out. At least she didn't key my car or something."
No. Hinata wasn't like that. But it's not like he expected the TikTok video from her either.
Plus, she wouldn't ruin his car with a key. Now messing with his mind a little? That was a different story.
"So, want to play Fortnite?" Naruto asked, swinging his legs off the counter and hopping off the bar stool, turning towards the TV.
Just like that, Naruto was over it.
Sasuke shrugged, humming a little.
"Sick." Naruto dropped the box of cereal, at the counter, jumped up and hopped his way over to the couch, vaulted over the back of it and plopped down on the cushion. He bouncy balled for a moment, snatching the remote to turn on the TV.
Sasuke rubbed down his face, letting out a heavy breath. Next to his bed, on the other side, he eyed the bucket of keys, now complete. It was sheer luck that Naruto hadn't seen them.
Sasuke wasn't sure what he would say if he had.
Naruto was his oldest friend, and by default in lack of competition, probably his best friend.
Was Hinata actually worth it?
