Chapter 4
The next day Lee stood in the stables putting a box with Lightning's grooming supplies up on the shelf in the stall. Lightning was out in the paddock with the other horses.
Lee then laid down some fresh straw, filled up the feed station, and finally stood at the water trough waiting for it to fill up. When the water began to approach the top of the trough Lee headed to the spicket to turn the water off.
As he emerged from the stall, he realized that there was someone standing silhouetted in the barn's doorway. The figure began to walk forward pulling something out from under his jacket as he came.
After a few steps forward Lee could see who it was. It was Rafael!
"Rafael," he smiled, "If you're looking for Lisa, she's in the lounge."
Lee's smile disappeared when he saw what was in Rafael's hand. It was a semi-automatic pistol!
Lee's eyes darted up to Rafael's face. His eyes had a glazed over look in them.
"Oh no!" snapped Lee. He dove back into the stall a fraction of a second before Rafael fired. The bullet smashed into the stall door sending wood splinters everywhere!
Rafael, still holding the gun in his outstretched hand, walked around the open stall door and into the stall. Lee was gone! The stall was empty. Rafael stepped further into the stall and looked around.
Suddenly Lee grabbed him from behind and a struggle for the gun ensued. Rafael put his foot up on the wall and pushed backwards. From the force of the push, they both landed on the ground and rolled out of the stall into the main aisle. Finally, Lee pinned Rafael's gun. He drew back his fist to throw a punch.
"Oh boy Lisa's going to kill me." He groaned, "But I've got no choice." He nailed Rafael with a right cross that knocked him out cold!"
Lee grabbed the gun out of Rafael's hand and stood up. He emptied the chamber of the gun, then took out the clip, emptied it and put the bullets in his pocket.
Then he picked Rafael up and draped him over his shoulder in a fireman's carry.
"Well," Lee said to himself, "Time to face the music."
With that he started off toward the lounge.
