New Day and New Beginnings

Light came threw the window and softly hit her in the eyes. Mary squeezed her eyes tighter. She didn't want to open them just yet. Mary narrowed her brows together as she heard someone breathing beside her. Her body tensed up as she realized that it was a man laying beside her. As he moved his arm over her shoulder; Mary's breath caught in her throat. She opened her eyes and looked up. Mary relaxed when she saw Newkirk's face. She smiled to herself as she watched him sleep. Mary moved herself around until she was laying on her stomach. She laid her head onto the pillow. She smiled to herself as Newkirk moved some in his sleep. Mary moved herself closer toward him. She took a deep breath in and could smell his natural musky scent. Newkirk rolled over to where he was now facing her. Mary smiled at the sleeping man, but she smiled wider as Newkirk made a noise in his sleep. Newkirk opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was beautiful pale eyes looking into his. He smiled at the young woman in front of him.

"Good morning Peter." Mary said in a sweet voice. Newkirk reached up and moved a piece of Mary's hair away from her face.

"Good morning Mary." Newkirk said in a low voice.

"Are you hungry?" She asked him.

"Yes I am. How about you?" He asked her with a smile.

"Yes I am. How about I go and cook all of us something to eat?" Newkirk nodded his head. He smiled sweetly at Mary, but chuckled as Mary giggled and rolled over and got out of bed. She put her house shoes on. Newkirk watched Mary move around the room with grace. He watched as Mary went to pick up the clothes that the Captain had bought her. She looked at them and kind of frowned. Newkirk saw this then he noticed what Mary was wearing. She was wearing a nightgown that Klink had asked his secretary Hilda if Mary could borrow it for awhile. The nightgown was way too long for her. Newkirk tilted his head and looked at the bed. 'I think that I might have some left over, but I will have to look.' He thought to himself.

"What are you thinking about?" Mary giggled as Newkirk had jumped a little when he heard her voice.

"Oh nothing." Newkirk smiled at her. Mary narrowed her eyes at him. She knew that he was up to something.

"I know your up to something." She told him.

"Me, never." Newkirk said while pointing at himself and smiling at her.

Mary smiled and went to the bathroom to change her clothes. Newkirk moved and got off of the bed. He then made his way out of the bedroom to get his boots that were still beside the sofa. He thought about what size Mary could be. He knew that he would not be able to pull this off if he had to ask her what sizes she was. Newkirk sat on the sofa and put his boots on. Then a thought came to his mind. 'If she was to take a shower, then maybe I could get….' He let his thought trail off. Newkirk made his way back to the bedroom. He walked over to the bathroom door. He stood there and listened. He was listening to see if Mary was taken a shower. When he heard nothing he thought about how he was going to word what he was about to say. Newkirk knew if he couldn't get Mary to take a shower, than he would not get his chance. He raised his hand up and knocked on the door.

"Mary?" Mary held her nightgown up to herself. Her mind was racing. 'Why is he back in the bedroom?' She asked herself.

"Yes Peter?" She asked him while watching the doorknob.

"If you want to take a shower before you cook, you know you can." Her breath caught in her throat at this.

"I can?" She asked.

"Yeah you can, you can leave the clothes that you have been wearing out here and wear the nightgown and the robe Colonel Hogan gave you. I will ask The Kommandant if he can call Hilda and see if she can bring you over some different clothes. Just to wear until those are clean." Newkirk told the young woman. His eyes was on the door. For awhile he didn't hear anything. Newkirk was about to say Mary's name when the door opened. Mary looked up at him and handed him the clothes. He could see that she looked uneasy.

"Mary, what is it?" He asked her. Mary looked up at him with unease in her eyes.

"If I take a shower? Are you or anyone else going to come in and watch me?" Mary asked him. Newkirk raised an eye brow.

"What?" He asked her. 'Why would she ask that?' He thought to himself. Newkirk looked into Mary's eyes and saw the fear that laid within them. Mary watched as Newkirk's eyes widen.

"Did George do that?" He asked her, not knowing if he wanted to hear the answer to his question. Mary looked away and at the floor.

"He didn't always do that. He only started that two years ago. He told me that is what he was suppose to do. That father's are suppose to watch their daughter's bath so that they don't fall in the tub." Mary jumped when Newkirk's hand hit the side of the doorframe. She looked up at him and saw the shocked look on his face.

"Peter are you alright?" She asked him. Newkirk glanced over at Mary. She watched him wet his lips and started to speak.

"Mary. No father in their right mind is to ever do that to their daughter's." He told her while dropping his hand from the doorframe. Mary looked down at the floor again.

"I know that, but I couldn't say or do anything about it. He broke me to where I just did what he told me to do without being asked. In away George made me somewhat mindless." Newkirk looked at Mary with a sadden look.

He couldn't believe that not only did this bastard George sexually abuse Mary, but also mentally as well. Newkirk knew that if there was more than one types of abuse, that usually all of the abuses were in play. He closed his eyes tight as the thought of this man that he had never seen hurting this wonderful woman before him came to mind. The image of Mary being physically, mentally, verbally, emotionally, and most of all sexually abused hurt his heart. Newkirk could feel hotness in his eyes. It was only when Mary said is name in the most sweetest voice is when he opened them. His blue flamed eyes locked onto Mary's snowy ones.

"Peter you are crying." Mary stiffened up as Newkirk placed his hands on her shoulder's and looked into her eyes that he secretly loved to look into.

"Mary, George didn't break you, and you are not mindless. If you were, you would not be here right now. You would have stood there and let him kill you. I don't know what all he did to you and I hope one day you will tell me it all, but only if you want to that is. I will not push you to do so. But I hope that you will try to forget the things he did to you or told you. If I could I would have went threw it for you." Mary's eyes widen as Newkirk told her this. He watched as tears came to her eyes.

"Peter, no. You are to kind to go threw that." He smiled a weak smile at her.

"And so are you. You are kind, sweet and caring. Mary, no one should go threw anything that you have went threw." Mary smiled wide as Newkirk said these things to her.

"Really?" She asked him in a whisper. On the outside Newkirk smiled a loving smile at her, but on the inside the urge to kiss Mary was overwhelming.

"Yes. You are to wonderful to go threw any of that." Newkirk was not expecting Mary to reach up and wipe his tears away from his face with her free hand. Newkirk smiled and reached over and took Mary's hand that she had used to wipe his tears away. He moved her hand to the side and kissed her open palm. Mary smiled as his lips touched the palm of her hand. She could feel a jolt of what felt like electricity go from her hand to the rest of her body. Newkirk leaned back up, but he still had Mary's hand in his. He could still feel her hot skin of her hand on his lips. He could feel the electricity through out his body. 'I only kissed the palm of her hand, and it feels like I was just hit by ruddy lighting.' Newkirk thought to himself.

"Here are the clothes." She handed him her clothes to be washed. Newkirk took them into his hands.

"Alright, you go ahead and take a shower and I will tell Klink to call Hilda." He said to her. Mary nodded her head and walked back into the bathroom. Newkirk stood there until the door was shut. His smile fell as he heard the door shut and lock.

Newkirk walked over to the little table that was in the room. He grabbed the pencil and the paper. He looked at her clothes and knew exactly what size Mary was now. He wrote down her measurements on the piece of paper. He smiled to himself and thought about what color he was going to use. 'Green, the forest green would look great on her.' He thought. Newkirk walked out of the bedroom and went into the living room. There he saw Klink walking out of the bedroom. Klink looked up at him and smiled. He then saw the look that Newkirk was giving him. He saw Newkirk with Mary's clothes in his hand and a piece of paper. As Newkirk walked closer to him he saw that there was something written on the paper.

"Newkirk, what is it? And why do you have Mary's clothes?" He asked him.

"Mary just told me that George would watch her shower. That he had started to do that two years ago. He told her that is what father's are suppose to do." Klink was now looking at the younger man with widen eyes.

"Did she know that he was not suppose to do that?" Klink asked him.

"Yes she did, but she told me that she couldn't do anything about it. That she would do things without him asking her to." Klink watched as Newkirk's face sadden once again. Klink had a feeling that this George might have pulled this on Mary, but he was not going to say anything about it.

"I will tell Hogan about what you have told me." Klink told the younger man. He moved to walk back into the bedroom until Newkirk's voice stopped him.

"Can you call Hilda and tell her to bring Mary some clothes? I told her that we will wash these and she will have some clean clothes to wear." Klink smiled and nodded his head.

"I will do that after I tell Hogan what you have told me." Newkirk watched Klink go back into the bedroom. He knew that Colonel Hogan was not going to be happy to hear this news.

Klink walked back into the room and looked at the bed. He smiled to himself. Hogan was still asleep and was laying on his back. Klink had remembered that last night, he had held the man all night long. Hogan had cried himself asleep. He remembered that Hogan had been upset about what Mary had told them, but Klink knew why Hogan was really crying. Hogan had cried because of what Mary had told them yes, but Hogan was more upset with himself. Klink knew that Hogan was wishing that he had known about Mary sooner, and would have taken her away from that hell a lot sooner. Klink's smile fell thinking about what he had to tell the man. Klink walked over and sat on the bed. He reached his hand out and placed it on Hogan's shoulder. Klink shook the man softly to wake him. Hogan made a noise in his sleep. Klink narrowed his eyes. 'Not again.' He thought to himself.

"Hogan wake up." Hogan let out a loud moan.

"No." Klink closed his eyes and prayed to not lose his temper with the younger man.

"Hogan wake up." This time Klink said this in a stronger voice. Hogan moaned again and opened one eye.

"What?" He asked him. Klink once again narrowed his eyes at him.

"Newkirk just told me something that your daughter had told him, and I thought you would like to know about it." Hogan opened the other eye and looked at the older man.

"What did she tell him?" He asked him as he sat up.

-MN-

Mary walked out of the bathroom. She was wearing the nightgown and the robe that her father had gave her. She looked around the room and saw that Newkirk was not there. She frowned to herself. She walked to the door and out into the living room. She looked around and saw that Newkirk was not there. Mary's heart started to race as her dream came back to her. 'No, please no.' She thought to herself. Just then the stove in the living room moved to the side. Mary who was standing beside it started to walk backwards. She watched as someone came out of the whole. Her heart went back to normal when she saw that this person that was coming out of the whole was Newkirk.

"Where were you?" Mary asked him. Newkirk looked up and over. He smiled at her as he was now standing on the hardwood floor of the small house.

"I went down in the tunnels to find something." He told her as he moved the stove back into place. Mary watched him do this and frowned. Newkirk looked over at her and saw this.

"What?" He asked her.

"Can anyone use the tunnel?" She asked him. Newkirk knew why she had asked him this.

"No, the POW's, your father and Klink know about the tunnels." He watched Mary relaxed when he had said this.

"So did you enjoy your nice hot shower?" He asked her. Mary smiled at him and nodded her head.

"Yes I did. It was very nice." She told him.

-MN-

Hogan was looking at the wall ahead of him. He was in shock at what Klink had just told him. Hogan couldn't believe it. Klink who had been looking at his hands now glanced at Hogan. He knew that this had to be hard on the man.

"I don't understand." Hogan finally said. At these words Klink looked at him fully.

"Don't understand what?" Klink asked.

"If George was so upset that Mary was my daughter and not his. Than why would he do those things to her?" Hogan looked over at Klink as he asked him this. Klink narrowed his eyes and thought about it.

"I don't know. When he had found out that she was not his daughter, but your daughter. Than he would have tried to wed Mary, and not try to kill her." Hogan narrowed his eyes at the older man.

"Isn't that just what I asked you?" Hogan said dryly. Klink looked over at him with narrowed eyes again.

"Yes, but I was trying to think on that." He said dryly back.

"Maybe he just got more of a thrill thinking that Mary was his." Klink's eyes widen as Hogan said this.

"Your right. When he thought that Mary was his. Than it gave him more of what you said a thrill?" Klink asked Hogan if he had use the American word right.

"Yes, thrill." Hogan sighed.

"Well the thrill could have been the thought of incest." Hogan looked at Klink with a questioning look. Klink sighed this time.

"What I mean Robert is that, George got a sexual thrill by thinking that Mary was his daughter. Then when he found out that she wasn't his. Than the thrill died. In his messed up mind, she had betrayed him by being your daughter instead." Hogan was now in shock at what Klink had just said.

"Your right. Because if she was his than in his mind it was right to do those things to her. But since she is my daughter, than his mind told him that it was wrong." Hogan leaned back against the headboard of the bed. He had never heard of this kind of thing happening before.

"Should I ask Mary about this, or should I let her tell me about it?" Hogan asked the older man. Klink stood up and sighed deeply.

"If I were you, I would let her tell me. But I would not let on that I knew about it though." Hogan nodded his head and then moved to get out of bed. He knew what he had to do when he saw Mary next.

"I'm going to get dress and after I eat I will be there for roll call." He told the older man. Klink nodded his head and walked out of the bedroom. He made his way over to the phone and called Hilda.

-MN-

Newkirk was now helping Mary set the plates of food down on the table. He sat his and Klink's plate down, when he heard the bedroom door open. He looked up and saw Hogan walking toward him. Newkirk could see that his Commanding Officer wanted to tell him something.

"Colonel?" He asked as the man was now in front of him.

"Klink told me what Mary had said to you." Newkirk looked down at the ground. It was when he felt Hogan's hand on his shoulder is when he looked up at the man.

"It's alright. I know that she would have only said it to you. So I will tell you this." Newkirk narrowed his eyes.

"You tell me what Mary has told you about what George has done to her, but don't tell me everything she says though." Now Newkirk was looking at Hogan with an odd look.

"What?" He asked him. Hogan sighed at this.

"Mary will tell you things because she trust you, and she needs someone that she can trust in her life. If you feel that you have to tell me about somethings, than you can tell me or Klink. But just try to be there for her. I know that she will not tell me every little thing." Newkirk knew that Hogan was right about this. He nodded his head.

"Yes Sir." Hogan smiled at him, and looked over as Mary came out with a pot of tea. Mary smiled at her father when she saw him.

"Morning Papa." Hogan smiled at his daughter.

"Morning Snow." He watched as Mary smiled wider at him. She walked over and put the tea pot down on the table. She was about to go back into the kitchen when her father grabbed her arm softly. Mary didn't look at him when he moved closer to her. Hogan could see that Mary was waiting for something. 'She probably thinks that she has done something wrong.' He thought to himself. Hogan moved in front of her and moved his arms out. Mary was shocked when her father was hugging her. She smiled to herself and hugged her father back. Hogan moved his head and kissed her on the top of her head. Mary smiled up at him.

"Did you cook?" He asked his daughter. Mary nodded her head.

"Yes I did. I hope you like what I cooked all of you." Hogan smiled at her.

"Oh I know we will." They looked over as Klink walked through the front door. Hogan looked over at him.

"Where did you go?" He asked him. Klink smiled as he walked over to them.

"I went to get the clothes that Hilda had brought for Mary." He told them and handed the clothes over to Mary. Mary smiled and took them from the older man.

"Danke, and guten morgen to you Wilhelm." Klink smiled at the young girl.

"Danke and guten morgen to you Mary." He said back to her. Mary smiled and looked at the dress in her hands. She knew that it was going to be kind of big on her, but she was grateful that Hilda would let her use her clothes for awhile.

"I will go and put this on. Peter could you get the cups that are in the kitchen?" She asked him with a smile.

"Yeah I can." Hogan and Klink watched as Newkirk went to the kitchen. Mary turned and went to change into the dress. Klink and Hogan moved to the table and sat down. Newkirk came back into the room with four cups and sat them down. Hogan looked at the food that was on the plates. He smiled wide and looked over at Newkirk as he spoke.

"Mary said that you always like biscuits with sausage gravy."

"I do. I remember that when she would come to the air base. I would take her out to eat, and she would get whatever I ordered." He said with a smile. Klink smiled at his secret love. They all looked up as Mary came out of the bedroom. Newkirk looked at the dress that she was wearing. It was white with yellow roses on it, but where on Hilda it would come to her knees, and the dress came half way down to Mary's lower leg. It was then that he realized that Mary would have to fix any clothes that she had to wear. Mary looked at the men at the table. She noticed that all three had not eaten the food.

"Is there something wrong with the food?" She asked them.

"No. We were waiting on you to get your plate and to join us." Klink told the young woman. When Mary gave them a look of shock, is when Hogan asked her.

"Mary, what is it?"

"You mean I am allowed to eat in front of you, but also with you?" She asked them. All three men looked at her with confusion on their faces. Newkirk stood up and walked over to Mary.

"Yes Mary. You can eat in front and with us." Hogan looked down at Newkirk's hand. The younger man's hand was shaking. 'Why is his hand shaking.' He thought to himself and looked over at Klink. Klink locked eyes with Hogan. He too had seen Newkirk's hand shaking.

"Mary. Did George tell you this?" Both Officers looked over toward Newkirk as he asked Mary this. Their eyes went from Newkirk to Mary when she spoke.

"Yes he did. He told me that I was to eat after him and after mama. When the dishes and food were to be cleaned and put up. By the time I went to eat it was ice cold." Mary watched as Newkirk lowered his head. Her eyes locked onto his when he glanced up at her. Hogan watched as Newkirk moved closer to his daughter. Newkirk moved his arms out and hugged Mary. Hogan watched his daughters eyes widen.

"You mean to tell me that you have never had hot food?" Mary moved her head onto Newkirk's chest. Hogan smiled to himself as Mary's arms moved up to Newkirk's side and back. 'I think Carter was right about Newkirk becoming my son-in-law.'

"No I haven't." Mary's voice brought Hogan out of his thoughts. Hogan smiled and stood up. Klink watched the two in front of him slowly break apart. His eyes watched Hogan walk over to the two that were in blind love.

"Well for now on, you are to eat with us and in front of us." Mary smiled at her father.

"Really." She asked him.

"Yes and when you cook one of us will do the dishes for you." Mary looked over as she heard Newkirk's rough voice. She turned her head and saw her father go into the kitchen. Newkirk took Mary's hand and walked her over to the table. She watched as Klink got up and pull her out a chair. Mary thanked him as Klink pushed the chair in as she sat down. Her eyes spotted her father walking back into the room with a plate of food. He smiled at her as he sat it down in front of her. Mary looked over as Newkirk put a cup of tea in front of her. All three smiled as Mary picked up the spoon and took a bite of her food.

"Wow, this is a lot better warm." She looked up at them with a smile. All three smiled and took a bite of the food in front of them. Mary watched their faces. She was still not sure if they would like what she had cooked them. Mary looked at Klink who was in front of her. She smiled as he smiled as he ate.

"Wilhelm do you like it?" She asked him. Klink looked up at her and smiled.

"I have to say Mary. I have never had this dish before, but I think it is my favorite now." She giggled at this.

"Well whenever you want me to cook it, just tell me." Klink smiled at her and told her that he would. Mary now looked over to her right and saw her father.

"Papa?" She asked him. Hogan was sitting there with his eyes closed. He opened his eyes and looked at her.

"Yeah?" He asked.

"Are you alright?" Hogan smiled at his daughter.

"Mary, this is so good. This is far better than I have ever had, and there was an older woman when I was growing up who make the best biscuits with sausage gravy. I would get up early and go over to her house. She lived right beside of us, and I would help her make the biscuits." Klink and Newkirk watched Mary's face light up as Hogan spoke about his past.

"But you know she would never let me make the sausage gravy." Mary looked at her father with curiosity.

"Why not?" She asked him.

"Because she said that how she made it was a secret, and she was the only one who would make it." Klink looked over at Hogan. Hogan looked at him when he spoke.

"And was there a secret?" He asked him. Hogan smiled wide and only said.

"Nope. Later she told me that she didn't want me to burn myself but the most important part was not to burn the gravy." Newkirk and Mary watched as Klink started to laugh lightly.

"You mean to tell me that she was more worried about food than you?" Klink asked Hogan who was now lightly laughing too.

"Yeah, but I knew that she was joking with me though." All three watched as Hogan's wide happy smile turned into a weak one as he spoke again.

"That woman was, and I say still is there for me. No matter what happened at home; she was there ready to help me in anyway." Hogan looked from the table and to all three of them looking at him. He smiled and waved it off as he told them that he would tell them sometime later about what he had meant.

Mary smiled and ate her food. She look at her father and the man that she saw as a second father to her. Soon Mary's eyes made their way to Newkirk. She watched him eat the food. Mary was wondering if Newkirk was enjoying his food. Newkirk looked up and into the snowy ice eyes. He knew that Mary was wondering if he like what she had cooked him. Newkirk smiled and told her.

"Mary this is wonderful. The last time I had this was many years ago, but it was not this good." He watched as Mary's eyes shined in the light. She was happy to hear that he liked what she had made him.

Klink walked around his desk and to his office door. He handed Hilda some papers. He made his way back into the room, and looked over at Mary. She was sitting on a wingback armchair that he had brought in for her. She was reading one of his books that he had on the book case at the house. Before they all left the house Mary had saw the book in the book case and asked if she could read it. Klink told her that she could. He walked back over to his desk and started on the new stack of papers. Hogan told Klink and Mary that he was going to radio London to see if there was anything going on that he should know about. Newkirk told Mary that he was going down into the tunnels to do something that he had to do. Hogan and Klink had given him odd looks. Newkirk told Mary that he would be down in the tunnels for awhile, and if she wouldn't mind staying with Klink. Mary had looked at Klink who said that he didn't mind at all. Klink was now leaning back in his chair thinking about what all had happened this morning. Then he remember something that was odd. 'When Newkirk told me what Mary had told him, he had a piece of paper in his hand. Why would he have a piece of paper?' Klink thought back and tried to remember what was written down on the paper. His eyes widen as he remembered what was on the paper. 'He had wrote down measurements! Why would he write down measurements?' Klink asked himself. He looked over at Mary who was pulling her legs up onto the chair as she kept reading her book. Klink smiled at her as she read. He looked at the dress she was wearing. It was too big for her. 'I will ask Mary if she wants to buy some clothes that will fit her. That's it!' Klink's eyes widen and a smile came to his face. Klink looked back at the paper before him with a smile still on his face.

"Herr Kommandant." Klink looked up at Hilda as she opened the door. Mary looked up from her book and smiled at the older woman.

"Yes Fräulein Hilda?" Klink asked his secretary as she walked into the room.

"General Burkhalter called. He said he is on his way over here to talk to you about…" Hilda trailed off and Klink looked at her curiously. It was when Hilda moved her eyes toward Mary and Klink looked over and knew what she was trying to say.

"Oh." He said and stood up.

"Hmm Hilda go tell Schultz to bring Sergeant Kinchloe here please." Hilda nodded her head and went to tell Schultz. After a few minutes Kinch walked through the office door. Klink moved over toward the man and leaned in.

"Go tell Hogan and Newkirk that General Burkhalter is coming here and will be here in." Klink looked at his watch. "In fifteen minutes."

"Yes Sir, but Newkirk is back at the house though. He just went there a minute ago." Kinch watched a smile come to Klink's lips. Kinch looked at the older man.

"Did he have something in his hands?" Klink asked The Sergeant.

"Yeah something in a brown paper and it was tied up with a string." Klink smiled wider. Kinch narrowed his eyes.

"You'll see soon enough, but you go and get Hogan and I will take Mary back to the house."

"Did I do something wrong?" Klink looked over at the young woman beside him. Mary had gotten up when Klink told Kinch to get her father. Klink smiled at her.

"No Mary, you have done nothing wrong. Newkirk is at the house waiting on you." He told her. Both men watched Mary's smile widen at this news.

"He is?" She asked.

"Yes and he has something for you too." Mary smiled and wondered what Newkirk could have for her.

"Okay I will go and get Colonel Hogan and tell him." Kinch said and ran off toward the barracks. Klink held his arm out to Mary who took it with a smile. They walked out of the Kommandantur and toward the house. Mary looked up at Klink and asked as they walked.

"Why is this General coming here?" Klink looked over at her.

"I say he is coming here to see you." Mary's eyes widen with fear. She squeezed Klink's arm with her hand. Klink patted her hand with his.

"Don't worry Mary. General Burkhalter will not do anything to you, and if he does…" Klink trailed off on what he was saying. Mary looked up at the older man.

"If he does what?" She asked him.

"If he does try to hurt you in anyway. I will blow his head off." Mary's eyes widen at this. She could see that Klink meant what he had just said.

"But that means that you would be killed yourself." Mary told him as they walked up the stairs to the house. Klink turned and looked at her once they had reached the front door.

"I know that, but I would gladly die knowing that I protected you. Mary, I have no children, and in a way I see you as my daughter." Klink told Mary the truth. Mary smiled at this and quickly hugged him. This took Klink off guard. He smiled and hugged her back when she spoke.

"Good because I do see you as a second father." Mary ended the hug.

"You do really?" He asked her.

"Yes I do. This morning when you handed me this dress I almost was about to call you Vater." Klink smiled at her.

"Well if your father doesn't mind you calling me that than I don't see no harm in it."

"Can you ask him if he would be okay with me calling you Vater?" Mary smiled as she asked him. Klink said that he would ask her father. Mary was about to walk into the house when Klink's words stopped her.

"Mary, General Burkhalter may ask you if you know why your father is here at the camp." Mary looked at the older man.

"If he does ask that what should I say?" She asked him.

"Tell him that your father was shot down and was brought here. Only Schultz and myself are the only two German's that know why your father is really here." He told her. Mary nodded her head and went inside.

-MN-

Mary walked into the house and looked around to see if she could see Newkirk. She walked into the bedroom and looked around. Her eyes then fell on the bed. She walked over and picked up the note on the package. She smiled wide as she read the note address to her.

Mary

I hope you like what I have made you. The style and the color as well. You deserve this, for just being your sweet self.

Peter

Mary sat the note down and untied the string. She opened the paper and her eyes got wide. She felt her breath catch in her throat. She picked up what Newkirk had made for her. She smiled and went to the bathroom to change.

-MN-

Klink made his way back to his office. When he walked in he saw Hogan sitting in the chair that Klink had brought in for Mary. Hogan looked up as Klink walked in.

"What is this doing here?" He asked him.

"I had brought it in for Mary. She was sitting in it reading the book she wanted to read." Klink told him and moved to look out the window. He looked to see if Burkhalter was there yet.

"And yet you make me sit in that chair that is very uncomfortable by the way." Hogan said as he got up. Klink rolled his eyes at the younger man.

"You are not suppose to be in here that long to get comfortable." Klink said dryly. Hogan narrowed his eyes but smiled at the man. Klink smiled and walked closer to Hogan. Hogan felt his heart race as Klink did this.

"Newkirk made something for your daughter." He told him.

"What?" Hogan asked Klink while trying not to reach out and touch the man.

"He is giving it to her right now." Klink told Hogan about the piece of paper that had the measurements. Hogan smiled when Klink told him this. He knew what Newkirk was now doing in the tunnels. He had went to the sewing room and was in there for almost all morning.

"Well Newkirk is very good at making anything you would want. He has made many outfits and uniforms for us." Klink looked at Hogan.

"What all has he made?" He asked the younger man while trying not to get lost in the brown eyes that he loved to look into.

"Well he has made civilian clothes for us to wear, and in the sewing room is an uniform he made to fit him. It looks just like yours, and he was the one that made Burkhalter's nieces wedding dress that time." Klink smiled and then he caught what Hogan had said.

"Wait he made a uniform that looks just like mine?" He asked him.

"Yeah he did. Newkirk has made Luftwaffe, General, and Gestapo uniforms." Klink was shocked at this. He looked away and a thought came to his mind.

"You know if he wanted to, he could be a designer. I say a lot of people would pay big money to get something that he has made." Hogan smiled at this. Than a thought came to his mind. 'I wonder what kind of wedding dress he would make Mary?' Klink looked over and saw Hogan thinking of something.

"What is going threw that head of yours?" He asked him. Hogan looked over and smiled.

"I was just thinking of what kind of dress Newkirk would make Mary for their wedding." Klink raised an eye brow at the younger man.

"What?" He asked him.

"Oh come on Will you know that those two are head over hills for each other." Hogan told him. Klink smiled at this.

"Yes I do, but do you really think that they will get married?" He asked him.

"Well I hope so." Hogan smiled and looked out the window. Klink looked to see if Burkhalter was here. Then he felt like he should tell Hogan what he had told Mary.

"Robert, I told Mary if Burkhalter tried anything to hurt her that I would kill him." This made Hogan look over at Klink.

"What? Why would you tell her that?" He asked.

"When I told her that he was coming here to see her she got scared. I only told her that to easy her nerves." Klink looked back over at Hogan as he moved to stand in front of him.

"Will if you do that than you will be killed." Klink smiled as he saw the sadden look in Hogan's eyes.

"I know that, but I will not let anything happen to her or Newkirk or you." Hogan smiled at this.

"Really?" He asked him.

"Yes, and I do have to tell you something else." Hogan's smile fell. He didn't know if he wanted to know or not. Klink took a breath in and looked at the man in front of him.

"I told Mary that I see her as my daughter as well." Hogan felt a big smile come to his lips.

"Really? What did she say to that?" He asked trying to not let his smile get any bigger.

"She told me that she sees me as a second father to her, and she wanted me to ask you if she can call me Vater. Are you alright with her calling me that?" Klink watched as Hogan's smiled grow bigger.

"Would you be okay with that?" He asked the German Officer. Klink looked at Hogan and only said.

"Yes I would. I know that I will never have any children of my own and do see her as my daughter."

"Well I think that you like having Mary as a daughter. She is something special." Klink smiled wide as Hogan said this. Then he saw the look come to Hogan's eyes. 'Oh no. Not that look.' He thought to himself.

"What is that look for?" He asked him. Hogan only moved closer to Klink and narrowed his eyes at him.

"Does that mean that we are married now?" Klink's jaw dropped when he heard the man that he was in love with say this.

"What?" He asked him. Hogan only moved closer to him to where he was only a few inches away from his face.

"Well if we are sharing a daughter, than that would mean that we are married in away." Hogan smiled wide at Klink's reaction. Klink was trying to find the right words to say. Than he gave in and said something that he was not planning on saying.

"Would you want to marry me?" He asked him. "To actually be with me from now on. To not look at anyone else or to kiss or flirt with a pretty woman. To be with me until the end, to kiss and hold and to make love too?" He added. Klink smiled as Hogan's face turned red. He watched Hogan looked away and his smile fell to a sheepish one, but when Hogan answered him it caught him off guard.

"I would actually." Hogan looked back at Klink who was standing there in shock. "Would you want to be with me, threw all that you just said?" He asked him. Hogan watched as Klink came out of shock, and a smile came to his face. But what Klink did next shocked Hogan to the core.

Klink stepped closer toward him and place his hands on Hogan's hips. Than Klink leaned in and kissed him on the lips. Hogan's eyes got wide, soon his eyes closed and leaned into the kiss. His arms found their way around Klink's neck. They kissed what felt like hours, but was only a few minutes. Klink ended the kiss and looked into the chocolate eyes that he loved so much. Hogan smiled at him and looked into Klink's baby blue eyes. They then heard Burkhalter's voice coming toward them. They broke embraces and moved apart as the door opened. General Burkhalter looked at the two and saw that both of their faces were red and both men were trying to stop smiling.

"What happened?" He asked them both.

"Nothing." They both said together. Burkhalter knew that was a lie, but he would address it later. Right now he had to know why there was a young woman at Stalag 13. He walked in and stood in front of the two men that were still red in the face.

"Now, who is this girl I was told of?" He asked Klink. Klink shook his head and answered the man that was his boss.

"Her name is Mary. She is Colonel Hogan's daughter." He told him. They both watched The General's eyes widen.

"What?" He asked them both. Hogan sighed and told Burkhalter what had happened to Mary and why she was here. He also told him about the abuse that her step father had put her threw. After Hogan and Klink had finished telling Burkhalter everything they watched the man sit down.

Burkhalter sat there going threw what both men had told him. He couldn't believe that a man could do that to a young woman and her mother. That he had beat it in there head to take beatings and just let him rape them. He thought about what Hogan had told him about this man not letting this Mary eat until everyone was done and things were cleaned up and put away. That this poor girl had to eat ice cold food. He took his hand and removed his hat. Hogan and Klink watched as Burkhalter rubbed his face with his hand. Then he stood up and put his hat back on.

"I would like to meet your daughter Colonel Hogan if that is alright with you?" He asked him.

"Yes it is, but I have to tell you somethings though." Burkhalter narrowed his eyes at the young American Colonel.

"And what is that?" Hogan looked at him with a worried look.

"Mary is still having a hard time being around men. Corporal Newkirk is with her now and will be by her side. He is her bodyguard." Hogan watched the fat General nod his head. They both looked over toward Klink as he spoke and walked closer to Burkhalter.

"Now Albert I will say this once and you better listen." Burkhalter's jaw dropped and Hogan looked at Klink with amazement.

"If you try to hurt or say anything to hurt Mary. I will blow your fucking brains everywhere." Hogan's and Burkhalter's eyes widen at this. Klink was meaning every word that he said, and Burkhalter knew this. He closed his mouth and spoke.

"Klink you do know that I am above you in rank and I could have you killed for just saying that to me."

"Oh I know that and I don't care." His eyes widen as Klink spoke. "You hurt that girl, a girl by the way I see as a daughter. I will not hesitate in killing you." Hogan was now looking at Klink with large eyes. He had never seen this side of Will before. 'How is it that this is the same man that just gave me a loving kiss?' Hogan thought to himself.

"Well than you two better tell me on what to say and to what to ask her than. I don't want to upset her or you Klink. But I have to ask you Klink. Where did you get a backbone from?" Burkhalter watched as a evil grin came to Klink's face.

"Oh I have always had it. I just played a part this whole time. It was mostly to get information from you and from others. Nothing about the war though. Just secrets about your everyday life that you and others thought I was to ignorant to understand." Both men had different reactions to this. Burkhalter was standing there again with his mouth open and his eyes wide. He couldn't believe that Klink had played him and other's like him. Hogan was smiling wide and he hated to admit but was wishing that he had the skill like Klink did.

"Now this is what you can say and do when you meet Mary." Klink told The General still with the evil smile on his face.

Newkirk was in the kitchen when he heard Mary come in. He stayed seated at the table that was in the kitchen for enough time to let Mary read the note and change. He felt himself get nervous at the thought that Mary was now looking at what he had made her. He got up from the table and walked into the living room when he heard Mary walk out of the bedroom. He walked into the room and looked up at Mary. Mary was now standing in front of him. She smiled up at him.

"Peter. You made me a dress?" She asked him.

"Yeah I did. I hope you like it." He said in a nervous voice. Mary looked down at the silk and chiffon forest green gown. The gown just barely touched the floor. The dress was sheer around her shoulders that moved down to form a long narrow V starting at her neck and stopping at her collar bone. The long sleeves were also sheer and came to a V at her hands. Mary walked closer toward him. Newkirk felt his heart race as she moved toward him. The dress swayed back and forth as she walked.

"Peter this is the most beautiful dress I have ever had." She told him with a wide smile. Newkirk felt his nerves easy as she spoke.

"Good. I wanted you to have something that not only fit, but made you feel beautiful in it." Mary placed her hands on Newkirk's shoulders. Mary felt him tense up as she did so. This made her change her mind from what she was going to do. Instead she hugged him. She felt his arms go around her back.

"Thank you Peter." She said in a low sweet voice.

"Your welcome." He said in a low voice.

"Wow Mary where did you get that dress." The voice of her father made Mary turn and look over at her father, Klink and the man who she had to guess was General Burkhalter. Mary smiled at her father.

"Peter made it for me." Hogan walked over and took Mary's hand and moved her out. He looked at the dress.

"Wow Newkirk, you have really out done yourself." Newkirk smiled when he heard his Commanding Officer say this.

"That is very beautiful Mary, and yes Newkirk you have out done yourself, but where did you get the material at?" Klink asked him as he walked closer to them. Newkirk thanked Klink, and told him that he had it left over from when Hilda had found out that he could make clothes. That she had asked him to make her mother a dress. She had brought the silk and chiffon for him to use. Mary looked from her father over to the other man that was standing not to far from them. Klink saw Mary looking at The General.

"Mary this is General Burkhalter." Klink told her. Mary nodded her head at the man. Burkhalter nodded his head back and spoke in a sweet voice like he had been told to do so.

"Please Fräulein Mary, come and lets all set down. I have to ask you some questions." Burkhalter notice that Mary reached behind her and grabbed Newkirk's right hand with her left hand. She looked over at her father with a fearful look.

"It is alright Mary. General Burkhalter just wants to ask somethings. Newkirk, Klink and I will be right here with you." Mary smiled at her father.

Hogan and Klink walked over to the two chairs that were on the either side of the sofa. General Burkhalter sat on the sofa and looked over at Hogan and Klink. His eyes widen as Klink flashed the evil smile at him one more time. Mary looked over at Newkirk. He smiled at her and led her to the sofa. The three sitting men watched as Newkirk sat down near the arm of the sofa, and Mary sat down beside him. Burkhalter smiled at Mary as he asked her the first question.

"Now my dear, Have you finished school or do you need to continue your studies?" Mary felt all eyes on her. She looked down at her hands and started to shake a little. Everyone was shocked when Newkirk moved closer to Mary and placed his free hand on Mary's left shoulder. All three men watched as Mary stopped shaking and took a deep breath in and out. She looked over at Burkhalter and smiled at him.

"No Herr General, I have finished my studies many years ago." Burkhalter hummed then spoke again.

"How many years ago?" He asked her. Mary smiled sheepishly at the man.

"Well about nine years ago." She watched as Burkhalter's mouth dropped. She looked over at Klink has his jaw dropped as well. Mary looked over at her father who was smiling wide at her. She knew that her father was proud of her for finishing school at only seven years old. Mary looked back at Newkirk who was looking at her with a shocked look. She turned her head when she heard Klink speak.

"Mary, you were only seven years old when you finished school?" Mary nodded her head at his question. She watched as Klink looked over at her father. Hogan only smiled wide at the man.

"Hogan how is that possible?" He asked him. Hogan smiled wide once again but this time he was showing his white teeth.

"Well Mary is a fast learner. Like I told you Klink. I showed Mary what to push to fly a plane, and she actually knows what to do get one up in the air. She has what the doctors call a Photographic memory." As Hogan finished speaking all the men saw his eyes get widen. He looked over at his daughter with horror in his eyes.

"Mary that means…" He trailed off what he was going to say. Klink's eyes widen as well. Burkhalter and Newkirk were the only two that didn't know why the two men were looking at Mary like that.

"Mary that means that you can't forget what George has done to you, because you have a photographic memory." Klink said with sadness in his voice. Mary looked over at him and shook her head.

"No not really. To have the ability to recall everything that you have ever seen is a blessing and a curse." She said in a sadden voice. Newkirk now remembered what he had told Mary earlier that day. 'How can she forget all that he has said and done to her if she has that kind of memory.' Newkirk lowered his head and for the second time that day he felt like his heart was hurting him.

"But I have to say that I have gotten pretty good at pushing some memories away. With the help of my father and Vater." Klink smiled at Mary. Newkirk smiled to himself. He knew that Klink was very happy to hear her say that.

"And of course Peter has really helped me." Newkirk looked up and over at Mary as she said this.

"He has? How?" Hogan asked Mary while looking at Newkirk with a smile.

"Well where before I was forced to do things. I was not asked to. I was never hugged by anyone other than my father. If someone went to touch me I would shake and freeze. But with Peter I can feel myself start to be me and not the mindless young woman that George or my mother wanted." As Mary spoke, Newkirk could feel his heart beat faster. He didn't know that just being a gentleman to her would have helped her so much. Hogan cleared his throat causing Mary to look at him. She looked at him and he moved his eyes toward Newkirk. Mary smiled and looked over at the older man beside her. Newkirk smiled at her.

"I have helped that much?" He asked her. She smiled at him and nodded her head.

"Yes Peter. Some of the things that I have told you of what George had said to me, and you telling me that he was in the wrong to do so. It has helped me be able to block that memory and to make a new one with you." She smiled at him sweetly. Hogan and Klink looked at each other. They both smiled and then looked at Burkhalter. He was smiling at the two in front of him.

"That is very impressive young lady." Mary and Newkirk looked at The General after he spoke.

"Danke." Hogan watched as Burkhalter's eyes widen.

"You can speak German?" He asked her.

"Yes she can and other languages too." Burkhalter notice the proudness in Hogan's voice as he spoke of his daughter. Hogan then told him the other languages that Mary could speak. After that the fat General looked over at Mary.

"Well I have to say that I am very much impressed. Given your age and how you learned them is very impressive as well." Mary smiled at the man.

"Now I must ask you something else. Do you know why your father is here in this camp?" He asked her. Hogan and Newkirk looked at Burkhalter when he asked this. Mary remembered what Klink had told her. That only himself and Schultz knew why her father was here in the camp.

"My father was shot down and was brought here as a prisoner of war. He and the other prisoners are just that prisoners of war." Klink smiled a small smile. He was glad that Mary had told the lie that he had told her to say. General Burkhalter nodded his head.

"Very well. If there is anything you need just tell Klink, and he will call me and I will see that you will have what you need." General Burkhalter said this and was about to get up when Mary stopped him.

"Well, I was going to ask Herr Oberst for some material so I can make my own clothes, and some other's some new clothes too." Mary smiled and looked over at Newkirk. He smiled at her.

"You can make your own clothes?" He asked her. Mary nodded her head.

"Yes I can, and I hope you wouldn't mind if I made you something?" Newkirk looked into Mary's snowy blue eyes and smiled at her.

"You don't have to. I don't think that I look good in anything really. No Mary you don't have too." He told her. Mary turned toward him. He saw the small frown on her face.

"But Peter, I want to make you something so that will make you feel handsome in it." She smiled at him as she used his own words against him. Newkirk narrowed his eyes at her.

"That is what I said to you." He stated.

"I know." Mary said with a wide smile. Newkirk was about to protest but he knew that she would wear him down. He smiled at her and said.

"Okay." Mary smiled and was about to turn away when Newkirk's rough voice made her look at him again.

"But if you make some new clothes, than I will make you as many outfits as you make me." He smiled at her. Hogan watched this play out and he looked over at Klink who was looking at him with narrowed eyes.

"See she is just like you." Hogan knew that Klink was right.

"I know, who do you think taught her." He said with a smile. Burkhalter watched as Klink rolled his eyes. He looked back at Mary and her bodyguard. He smiled to himself. He could see the love in each others eyes as they bantered back and forth. It was only when he spoke that Mary and Newkirk looked over at him.

"Klink make sure this young lady gets the material that she needs and anything else she will need as well."

"Jawohl Herr General." Klink said and stood up when Burkhalter did. Hogan stood up as well, as did Mary and Newkirk.

"Now I will take my leave." Burkhalter saluted the three men and they returned the salute. Burkhalter turned and smiled at Mary.

"You are amazing young lady. You have went threw so much but you are still smiling. That is a good thing, and you have your father, and your bodyguard to keep you safe."

"And I also have Vater too." Mary smiled at The General. "I do see Oberst Klink as a second father." She added. Mary then realized what she had said and looked over at her father. Hogan smiled at her.

"Yes you do, and he as well as everyone else will keep you safe and make sure you are happy." Mary smiled at her father with a loving smile.

"Well it looks like you are well looked after." With that General Burkhalter bowed and went to walk out of the small house. He stopped at the door and called for Klink and Hogan to come outside. Both men looked at each other and walked out to the small porch that was on the house.

"Now for you two." He told them. Both men looked at each other and then back at Burkhalter.

"You two can be together if you want too, but I must tell both of you to be careful and not to get caught. I am not a dummkopf. I know that you two were kissing when I came into the office Klink." Hogan's and Klink's eyes widen and they felt their faces get red. Klink was the one to speak first.

"You mean that you are not going to take me away to a camp, and be killed?" Klink asked him.

"And you mean that you are okay with Will and I being in a relationship?" Hogan asked him.

"No Klink, you will not be killed for this nor lose your job. You have been threw a lot of heartache over the years and I know that being with Hogan will make you happy." Burkhalter said this to Klink. He than looked over toward Hogan.

"Yes, you two can be in a relationship, but you must remember who's side of the war you are on. And I see no harm in two men being together. Love is love, you can not control it and it always finds away." Hogan smiled at this and looked over at Klink who looked at him. They both had large smiles on their faces.

After the three men walked outside Newkirk looked over at Mary. He saw that she was looking down at her hands and she was frowning. He thought back on what was said earlier. He remembered telling Mary that he would not look good in anything. 'What if she thinks that I didn't want her to make me…' He let his thought trail off. He reached over slowly and took Mary's hands in his one. Mary looked up at him.

"Mary, what I meant was that I don't think I look good in anything I wear. I have always thought of myself as not a good looking man." He told her. Mary raised her eye brows. Newkirk watched as Mary pulled one of her hands out of his, and placed it on the side of his arm.

"Peter, you are very handsome and I think that you would look great in anything that you wear." Mary told him with a loving smile. Newkirk smiled at her and felt his face get a little red. He looked away and to the floor. He heard Mary giggle lightly at his reaction.

"But that is not why I was frowning." He looked back at her with an raised eye brow.

"Than why were you…" Mary cut him off by saying.

"When I walked over and put my arms on your shoulder's, I felt you tense up. I was going to kiss you on the cheek, but since you tensed up; I just thought that you wouldn't want me to kiss you at all." She told him. Newkirk thought back at what Mary had said. He sighed and went to speak, but in the corner of his eye he saw Hogan and Klink walk back into the house. Mary walked to hers and Newkirk's room. Hogan looked at his daughter than back at Newkirk who was now sitting down on the sofa.

"What happened?" He asked him. Newkirk sighed and looked up at his Commanding Officer.

"If I tell you. Please wait until the war is over to kill me." Hogan raised his brows at this. He looked over at Klink as he walked behind the sofa.

"Okay, what is it?" He asked the younger man.

"Mary told me that she was going to kiss me on the cheek for making her the dress, but I tensed up. She now thinks that I would never or anyone will ever kiss her." Klink's eyes widen. Hogan sat down on the sofa.

"Newkirk, I know that you are in love with my daughter, and I am fine with that." Newkirk looked over at Hogan with widen eyes.

"You are fine with it?" He asked him. Hogan smiled and nodded his head.

"Yes and if the both of you want to be in a relationship than I don't care. Look I know that you would never hurt her or do anything to her. Besides she is in love with you too. I just don't know if she knows what love is actually. I mean given what she has been threw, she might not know what love feels like." Newkirk was about to say something when Klink spoke.

"And if you two do want to be together than I say take it slow. If you move to fast than she might have a flash back to something George did to her in the beginning." Newkirk sighed and looked over at Hogan.

"You are really okay with this?" He asked him. Hogan smiled and nodded his head. Newkirk stood up and walked to the bedroom. Klink and Hogan watched him knock on the door and walk in. He moved beside of Hogan as Newkirk shut the door behind him. Klink looked over and saw Hogan with a worried look on his face. He leaned over and kissed Hogan on the cheek. Hogan smiled and looked at Klink. He moved and laid his head on Klink's chest. Klink breathed in and smiled as he wrapped his arms around Hogan.

"Finally, you are in my arms." Hogan smiled at this.

Newkirk shut the door behind him. He was looking at Mary who was sitting on the bed. She didn't look up at him as he walked over and sat down on the bed beside her. Newkirk turned his body to where it was facing Mary's. He reached out slowly again and took Mary's hand. He brought her hand up to his lips and kissed her hand. Mary looked over at him with raised brows. She could feel the electricity spread through her body once again. She was going to ask him what he was doing when he slowly put her hand down. She watched as Newkirk leaned in slowly towards her. He tilted his head and closed his eyes. Mary closed her eyes as she felt his lips on hers. Both Mary and Newkirk felt the bolt of electricity go through their bodies as they kissed. Newkirk broke the kiss and touched her forehead with his.

"Mary." Mary smiled as she heard his voice say her name. She noticed that he was breathing hard and his hands were shaking slightly.

"Yes Peter." Newkirk's breath caught in his throat as she said his name so sweetly and softly.

"Mary, I would like to be with you in a relationship, but I will go slow and not rush into it. I don't want you to be afraid, or feel like you are being forced to do something that you don't want to. I will go slow and wait for you to tell me when you are ready to move forward with any step of our relationship. I will be patient and do as you say." Mary felt hot tears come to her eyes. They fell onto hers and Newkirk's hands. He leaned back and looked at her with worry in his eyes. 'Did I over step?' He asked himself.

"Mary?" Mary looked up at him with hot tears now running down her cheeks, but it was her smile that caught Newkirk off guard once again.

"I would like to be in a relationship with you too." Newkirk smiled at the woman that had stole his heart and soul. He knew that he had to take his time and not to rush in quickly like he had in the past.

"Mary, can I kiss you again?" He asked her.

"Yes you may." Newkirk smiled and leaned in and kissed Mary softly once again. He smiled in the kiss as he felt Mary's arms wrap around his neck pulling him closer to her.
