Jessica and Andrew pulled up to her old High School. Andrew parked the car and looked over at Jess. She was staring out the window at the school.
"You ready?" Andrew was determined to get her through this trip without letting her back out.
"I... I guess..." Jessica was not ready. All she wanted to do was tell Andy to go back to the hotel.
Andrew climbed out of the car and went over to her door. He opened it and held out his hand. Jessica sighed and took his hand. She stepped out of the car and Andrew closed the door.
The two linked arms and made their way up to the school. Jessica was scanning the crowd seeing who all she would recognize. So far she had seen a few people but no one she was really friends with.
Andrew pulled the door of the school open and Jessica stepped inside. There was no expense spared in decorating. The school had been decked out in pictures and decorations from their years at the school.
"See anyone you recognize?"
"A few but no one I was friends with." The two of them grabbed a glass of wine.
Jessica then lead Andrew through the school and they started to look at pictures. They stopped at a collage of photos. In the center it read "power couples".
Jessica started to look at the photos along with Andrew. The first one she saw was of Matt and Hallie. She had heard about Hallies passing and wanted to reach out to Matt but she didn't. Then there was Heather and Andy. Andy had died in a fire some years back.
The next photo was of Jack and Isabella. Jessica could feel the tears stingy the corners of her eyes. They died in a car accident the night of prom. Isabella and Jessica were inseparable. They were like sisters.
Jessica let her fingers graze the picture of Isabella and Jack. She missed them both. They were all suppose to go to NYU together.
"Whose that?" Andrew was watching his fiancé closely and knew the people in this photo meant something to her.
"Isabella and Jack. Two of my best best friends. We were all suppose to go to NYU together."
"What happened?"
"They died in a car accident the night of prom." Jessica let a few tears slip down her cheeks.
Andrew knew Jessica didn't talk about Chicago that much. Honestly he didn't know much about her past. He had always just let it go because she never seemed to want to talk about it.
Andy began scanning the rest of the photos and then he saw one of Jessica and another guy. They both were smiling. She was sitting in his lap and his arms were wrapped around her. She looked so happy.
Jessica noticed the photo Andrew was starting at. She felt a tug at her heartstrings. She knew she would have to tell him eventually. "That's Kelly Severide and me. We dated for most of high school."
"Is he why your so reserved?"
The question stung. Jessica knew she kept a lot of stuff to herself but she didn't know it was that bad. "He broke up with me the night I left Chicago. Said he couldn't do the long distance thing. We haven't spoken or seen each other since."Jessica walked away from the photos not wanting to talk about Kelly.
She wasn't watching where she was going and bumped right into someone. Almost falling but Andrew caught her.
"I'm so sorry." Jessica looked to see who she had bumped into. "Matt?"
"Still clumsy as ever I see?" Matt stared at her.
"Still cocky as ever I see?" Jessica crossed her arms and glared at Matt. A few seconds later they both burst into laughter.
"It's so good to see you Jess." Matt wrapped her in a bear hug. "I've miss you."
"I've missed you too Matt."
Matt released her from the hug. "Jess I want to introduce you to someone." Matt motioned for the girl who was standing just behind him. "Jess this is my wife Gabrielle Dawson. Gabby this is an old friend of mine Jessica Holbrook."
The two girls said hello and shook hands. "Matt this is my fiancé Andrew Stevens. Andy this is Matthew Casey an old friend."
The two men shook hands and said hello.
"So you just in town for the reunion?"
"Yeah Andy's has a big case he's working that we have to get back to New York for right away." One of Andrews clients was being put on trial for some pretty big charges. He never disclosed to Jessica who his clients where or what they had done.
"Awe that's to bad. I would of loved to hangout and show you firehouse 51."
"Maybe another time Matt."
"Are you actually going to come back again?"
But before Jessica could answer someone had shouted Matt's name. Matt turned to the side to see who it was. As the couple got closer Jessica recognized the male immediately.
Jessica felt her breath get caught in her throat. It was no one other than Kelly Severide. Her heart began to flutter and feelings she thought were gone were coming back.
"Hey Severide."
Kelly walked closer and saw who Matt was talking too. He felt his heart drop to his stomach. It was Jessica. The two of them locked eyes and stared at each other.
Jessica decided she should probably break the silence. "Hey Kel."
"Hey Jess." The girl next to Kelly recognized the name immediately. She quickly locked arms with Kelly, causing him to snap back to reality. "Ashley this is Jessica Holbrook. Jess this is my fiancé Ashley Williams."
Jessica could feel her heart shattered. She knew he had probably moved on but it still hurt. The two girls said hello and did a little wave.
"Andy this is Kelly Severide. Kel this is my fiancé Andrew Stevens." The men said hello but didn't shake hands. There was defiantly some tension in the air.
When Jessica mentioned that Andy was her fiancé she could see the hurt in Kelly's eyes. She brushed it off seeing as how they had shared so much together.
There was an announcement asking everyone to make their way to the tables as dinner was about to be served. The group made their way to tables and began looking for their names .
Jessica soon realized they were all at the same table and she had been placed next to Kelly. Great. She knew Heather had something to do with this.
Everyone took their seats and dinner was served.
Matt decided it was his turn to break the silence while the group sat and ate. "So Jess what do you do for work?"
"I'm one of the head doctors at New York Presbyterian Hospital." Jessica was really proud of the things she had accomplished. "What about you?"
"Capitan Casey of firehouse 51 on truck 81" Jessica could see how proud he was. Matt always had big dreams and always chased after them.
"How did you and Gabby meet?"
"She is actually a paramedic at the same firehouse. Along with Kelly, who is lieutenant on squad 3."
Jessica was happy that Kelly had succeed in chasing his dreams. "Kel wasn't that your dads old squad?"
"Yeah it is." The two of them were trying not to look at one another.
"Ashley what is it that you do?" Jessica was trying to make it not so awkward.
"I'm an elementary school teacher."
"Oh wow. Power to you. I don't have the patience to teach." Jessica finished off another glass of wine. "So when's the wedding?"
"2 months." Ashley was beyond excited.
"What about you Jess?" Kelly was digging for information trying to figure out how serious this was.
"We haven't set a date yet. We both are always so busy."
"How long you guys been engaged?"
"Uh I think 2 years?" Jessica looked to Andy for confirmation.
"Try 5 years hun." Andrew was becoming annoyed. How could she of forgotten when they got engaged.
"Oh right. You purposed durning our trip to Paris. That's right."
Ashley was kind of snickering at the fact they had yet to get married and the fact Jessica had forgotten how long they had been engaged.
Jessica snapped her attention towards Ashley. "Well at least my fiancé didn't give me the same ring he used to purpose to someone else with." Everyone stopped eating. They could feel tempers rising.
"Jess." Kelly said in a warning tone. He didn't think she would of recognized it.
"No Kelly. She should know. That is the same ring you proposed to me with. Then you broke up with me and I threw it back at you." Jessica was annoyed and probably had had to many glasses of wine by this point.
Ashley was hurt and just looked at her ring like it was damaged. She had loved the ring and thought it was perfect but now, it felt wrong. Silence fell over the table.
The group went back to eating their dinner. Andrews phone started to ring. He excused himself and left the table.
"Well I think I'm going to get more wine." Jessica got up from the table and headed towards the bar. Jessica was standing in line when Andy came back in. "Hey babe."
"Hey Jess I'm sorry. The court date for my client got moved to tomorrow morning. I need to head back to New York tonight."
"Oh okay. Let me just grab my stuff." Jess went to get out of line when Andrew stopped her.
"No you stay. Have fun. I've already called for a cab to come take me back to the hotel."
"Andy."
"No Jess it's fine. I'll see you in a couple days when you get back?" Jessica nodded. Andy gave her a kiss and then proceeded out of the school.
Jessica got her glass of wine and then went back to the table.
Matt had noticed Andrew leaving and Jessica coming back to the table alone. "Where'd Andrew go?"
"His clients court date got moved up. He has to go back to New York tonight." Jessica took her seat.
"So he says..." Ashley thought she had said it quiet enough but Jessica heard her. Kelly dropped his fork onto his plate. He knew shit was about to hit the fan.
"Excuse me?" Jessica looked right at Ashley.
"You heard me."
Jessica stood up and was starting to make her way to Ashley. "Look here bitch. I don't who you think you are but stay in your own fucking lane."
Ashley stood up and started to make her way towards Jessica. "At least my mother wasn't a drug addict!"
Kelly immediately stood up and tried to hold the two women back. Kelly knew Jessica would claw Ashley's eyes out if given the chance.
Matt got up and helped Kelly. He pulled Ashley away from the situation. While Kelly grabbed Jessica and moved her down one of the school hallways. Both women screaming at one another.
Kelly finally got Jessica down the hallway and away from Ashley."Jessica stop."
"You picked a real fucking winner there Kel." Jessica was starting to pace the hallway. She was fuming.
"You started it." Kelly crossed his arms over his chest.
"Excuse me?" Jessica stopped pacing and stared at Kelly. "She has no right to bring up my mother. She doesn't know me."
"You just had to bring up the ring. You couldn't of left it alone?" Kelly was angry. He was stunned by how petty Jessica was being.
"Oh come on Kelly. It's tacky to use the same ring to purpose to another girl." The two of them were starring at each other. "I'm just gonna go. Coming back was a mistake."
Jessica went to go around Kelly but he grabbed her arm. "Jess please stay."
Jessica stopped and looked at Kelly. His face was full of anger a second ago but now it was pleading with her to stay. "Kel we both know that is a bad idea."
"Do we?" Kelly pulled her closer towards him. Forgetting all about the fact his Fiancé was just down the hall. Forgetting that Jessica was engaged. He just couldn't bring himself to care. He didn't want her to leave again.
"If I stay we both know how this ends." Jessica and him were standing face to face only a few inches apart.
"Is that a bad thing?" Kelly moved a piece of her hair from her face to behind her ear.
"Kel we both have moved on. We both have fo..." She was cut off by Kelly's lips kissing hers. She felt herself getting lost in the moment but soon realized what was going on. She pushed Kelly back.
Kelly felt his heat break as she pushed him away. "Jess."
"No Kelly. This is wrong. Your fiancé is just down the hall. I am engaged to be married soon. We can't do this." Jessica made her way back to the table to grab her bag. Leaving Kelly standing in the hallway stunned and wondering what just happened.
Ashley was sitting back down in her spot at the table. The two women didn't look at each other. "It's been fun guys but I need to go." Jessica grabbed her bag and downed her glass of wine.
"Jessica come on please stay for a while longer."
"I'm tired Matt. I'm sorry." Jessica left the school and made her way to her rental.
She got in and started driving. Not knowing where she was going to end up. Just knew she needed to clear her head.
Kelly came back to the table and sat down next to Ashley. He took her hand and gave it a squeeze. Ashley smiled at him. He tried smiling at her but it felt wrong. As soon as she looked away Kelly's smile dropped.
He had tried so hard to push any feelings he had for Jessica out of his mind but then the events from earlier replay in his mind. Jessica was standing there in front of him and he felt like they were teenagers again. He didn't know what to do. The kiss they shared felt so right.
Kelly didn't know if he should still marry Ashley or postpone the wedding. Maybe he still did love Jess.
