It's official, this show, and its characters, are haunting me…
I didn't want to do this particular four-letter word yet, but the voices in my head wouldn't subside with this little ficlet. Therefore, this one is vague for a very deliberate reason - I reserve the right to use this particular word more than once
One of the things I adore about writing in this forum is the feeling of kinship I get that I am not alone in my thoughts, so thank you all again for taking the time to review. There are not enough words (or combinations of those 26 letters in the alphabet, as it may) to tell you what they mean to me.
Kiss
They stood. Together. His hands resting lightly on her hips. Her hands settling feather-like on his chest. The air was electric with anticipation, and both barely dared to breathe. They just nestled together, breath mingling in the cool night air as they were wrapped in their own circle of warmth. Appreciating everything that had brought them here. To this moment. Finally.
All the time that had passed, all the hurt caused and apologised for, all the coming apart and coming together felt like it now had a purpose. Leading them to the now, to this. It had been hard to live through, yet they couldn't resent it knowing this is where it led. After all, it was no less than Theodore Roosevelt who said, "Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty" and these words now held an even more special meaning in both their hearts.
In finally deciding to open up to each other, their previous hesitation and uncertainty disappeared, replaced with a sense of contentment and wonder as their true personalities emerged without reservation or barrier. Time spent together involved difficult conversations along with the wonderful ones, and they now revelled in their natural magnetism, choosing easily to stay close rather than trying so hard to pull apart.
That night, standing together on the precipice of wonder, neither would recall who moved first. They couldn't even remember how they had come into to the moment, it just was, as it felt like it was always meant to be.
His hands tightened fractionally on her hips, and she pressed more firmly on his chest, as they moved even closer. She rose slightly as he bowed his head, and as their eyes both closed, their lips finally met, and all was finally right in the world.
