"Well, here we are." Skid stood at the lip of the crater, looking back at us.

"Whoa!" shouted Ivy. "This is so cool!"

"I guess so," I said. "It wasn't all that fun to make it, though. It kind of hurt. A lot."

"It was pretty amazing to watch, I must admit," shared Vine. "Skid and I were up on a hill by the house when we saw it. A meteor, or so we thought at the time, shot down from above the clouds and landed just beyond the trees. We couldn't run here fast enough!"

"Imagine our surprise when we found Xylus there instead of a space rock," added Skid.

"Yeah," I mumbled, remembering the night myself. "Anyways, we're supposed to be looking around aren't we?"

"Oh, yeah." Vine snapped back to attention. "Let's look then, shall we?"

"Seems like we won't be looking for long," said Skid. "Look there, in the middle of the crater!"

I rushed to the lip of the crater next to Skid, and he gestured toward... something. There in the center of the crater lay a sort of orange stone, half buried in the dirt. I stumbled down into the crater, got as good of a grip as I could on the stone, and started to pull.

It came up surprisingly easy, revealing not only the rest of the stone, but also an ornate chain, looped through a hole in the stone.

"It's... a necklace?"

"I guess so. It must have come down here when you did," said Skid.

"Why didn't we notice it when we found Xylus?" asked Vine.

"Dude, it was the middle of the night. Definitely way too dark to spot something that small."

"Especially since I must have landed right on top of it," I added.

"It's really pretty," said Ivy.

"Also warm," I noted.

Suddenly, a voice unlike any of ours spoke from the shadows. "Looks like it's worth quite a lot, too! We'll take it!"

Three Pokemon, looking like balls of putrid gas with menacing eyes, appeared before us.

"You see," said one. "We've had our eyes on this thing for a fair while, but we haven't been able to get it, because..." it turned from side to side, eventually turning in a full circle. "Well, no hands."

"Well, that's unfortunate for you, but it belongs to Xylus," replied Skid.

"Oh, we weren't asking who it belonged to," said another. "We just want it. It'll be ours with or without your cooperation. I'd recommend you give it here."

Skid stepped in front of me, taking a battle stance in front of the gas balls. "Just try and take it."

"Um, Skid?" I whispered. "What exactly are those things?"

"Gastly. They've always been mischievous things, but, just like many other Pokemon, they've gotten worse lately."

"Do you really think you can take us on?" asked the third Gastly. "You look like you've never even battled before!"

"If I didn't think I could, I wouldn't be standing here." Skid turned to me and the others. "You may want to cover your ears."

I obliged, as did Vine and Ivy, who covered tiny holes on the sides of their heads.

The Gastly seemed to know what was up, and moved to attack Skid, but not before he released an earsplitting roar. I noticed faint waves of dark energy emanating from Skid's mouth. These waves made all three Gastly flinch repeatedly, then eventually fall to the ground in dead faints.

I uncovered my ears and stepped out from behind Skid. "What exactly did you do?"

Skid turned to me with a smug look on his face. "Simple. I used the move Snarl."

"A... move?"

Vine moved beside me and fixed me with a confused stare. "You don't know what moves are?"

"Well, yeah. Maybe I did before this whole amnesia thing but I certainly don't now."

"That's kinda lame. Using moves to fight is a pretty big part of being a Pokemon. You probably know a few yourself."

"I do? How do I know what they are?"

Now it was Skid's turn to look confused. "Um... I guess you just... know? Maybe if you focus, you can see what they are."

Vine nodded. "That could work. Go on, Xylus, try it out!"

I closed my eyes and began to... focus. I had no idea what I was doing, but it appeared to be working. Before long, the names of four moves revealed themselves to me.

"I guess I know... Ember, Quick Attack, Double Kick, and Heat Press."

Vine and Skid shared a perplexed look.

"Those first three moves seem familiar, but Heat Press is new to me," said Vine.

"It is to me, too," added Skid.

"Maybe I saw it wrong?" I pondered.

"I doubt that," said Skid. "If that's what you saw, that must be it."

"Hm. Alright then." I paused for a moment, then looked around. "Wait, where's Ivy?"

"Up here."

I looked up to find where her voice had come from and saw her in a nearby tree.

"Why are you up there?"

Ivy opened her mouth to speak, but Vine interrupted. "She's terrified at the thought of battling. She thinks she's too weak to deal with any kind of threat, so she hides to let me and Skid deal with it."

"Hey! That's not true!" shouted Ivy from her tree.

"She also won't admit any of it." Vine looked up at Ivy. "Come on, get down so we can go home."

"Fine."

As Ivy climbed down, I suddenly remembered the dream. I turned to Skid and Vine. "So, there's something we need to talk about when we get back."

"Is it important?" asked Skid.

"Very."
