"What the hell?"

Bai questioned in daze. The new patient he got was awake and muttering something to himself in barely audible voice. Something he didn't expect with the amount of blood he loss and the injury he got. He expected at least the boy was out for a day, not several hours after he was brought in. But he chalked it off to aura and semblance for now as he need to do a check up.

"Hello kid," Bai interrupted the boy and made him look aside to meet Bai's eyes. "My name is Bai, a doctor in here. I wanted to do a check up and ask you few questions but I want you to answer me with just a nod or shaking your head a little, is that okay?" The boy nodded at him, seeing the kid was responsive and not delirious Bai proceed do his job. "Do you feel numbed anywhere?"

The boy shakes his head at his question. Bai do a pupillary light reflex test after the boy answered him. The same process was repeated as the check up continue.

Bai was baffled with the fact that the boy was mostly fine besides his flesh wound. No symptoms of hypovolemic shock or other complications that accompanied his level of injury. He didn't know what is hastening the boy recovery, but it's not business so he won't pry.

After the doctor was gone, Stephen can finally let out a sigh in relief. Something he regretted as he grimaces in pain. He got enough of unexpected awakening. First he woke up in the void, the second was in a forest as a kid before being mauled, and now it's a bedroom with smell of disinfectant permeated in the room.

He really hoped that he woke up in a hospital, not in a clinic in the middle of nowhere. But beggar can't be chooser. At least he know how to feel grateful to people who saved his life. He didn't want to possibly ended up in the void if he died again after all.

Back then before the doctor came in and interrupted him, he was doing an important thing. He was searching on finding out who his body used to belong to.

In common isekai trope, people who transmigrated can found out who their new identity is by influx of memory after they woke up or when they tried to find out who they are. Something he didn't experience until now. During his check up, the doctor ask him if he remember anything before he woke up in this room and he answered with a yes, further questioning stop when the doctor asked who he is and what he is doing in the forest. The questions unfortunately didn't trigger any influx of memory, so he answered by saying he didn't know who he was, acting like some amnesiac kid. Luckily, he didn't need to voiced out his answers. The bandages wrapped around his head also helped in hiding his expression. He hope he fooled the man because doctor always knew when their patient is lying, they just didn't say it If it doesn't affect the treatment.

Since he still didn't get any memory from his current body, he turned his attention to find out about the power that saved his life in the forest. He closed his eyes and searched for that feeling. It was easy in fact. He found something that is not there when he lives on Earth or when he spent a long time in the Void.

It did not even took a minutes before he found an encompassing feeling that protected him. He tried to manipulate it by gathering it in his left hand. The movement of it was slow, as if it has been stagnant for a long time.

When he opened his eyes, grey energy with tiny stars decorating it greeted his eyes. The energy coated his hand, giving him a sense of false strength and safety. It felt magical and alien to him. Unfortunately, this is not what he was looking for.

"It's wrong. It should be more like a.. wave."

This one felt wrong to him. Too easy to utilize it in fact, unlike the time when he used it. So he pulled it back, returning it to encompasses his whole body once more. In hindsight, he should've tried to find something that originated from inside him. Once more, he closed his eyes.

He ignored the one that is encompassing him and seek deeper. Not long after, he found a steady flow inside him and he pulled it out. It flowed outside his body from a specific places in a burst before encompass him in vitality and life. The power automatically tried to mingle with the one that is giving him sense protection and safety. Both churns and interacted in peaceful manners, trying to become one while lacking the essential part that will fuse it.

Instinctively, Stephen felt that the power that he felt back then was combination of both. He really wanted to combined the two forcefully but it seems like without that essential part it just stayed where it is. Unfortunately, he can't keep it up as he found himself tired and lack of breath.

The first power doesn't take a lot of effort keeping it up. It almost works automatically, he feel the need to try it by surprise attack later in the future. The second power though, it took effort and stamina just to keep it up for now. It's not even a minute and he already got tired. It seems to tied up with his stamina as it was drained fast rate before he reign it in. The process was slow as he need to pulled it from specific point where it came from and closed it.

"Well at least I can use two powers if that one can't be used," Stephen wanted to smirk if his face doesn't hurt so bad. Unfortunately, he can only mused out loud. "But why the hell both of it gave me sense of Déjà vu?"

He couldn't put a finger a finger where the first came from but the second felt like a chakra thing in Naruto or Nen from HxH. It filled him in giddiness if it was the later. So much thing can be done with it. He just need a lot of experimentation and making up rules and limitations for Hatsu he wanted to create.

After a long time since his first death, he wasn't bored. Far from it really as he look forward to the future. He almost lost his life but now he thought, it was exciting. In his first life, he won't say that such thing is exciting but maybe that years spent in the Void changed him. Just thinking of things he may discover far in the future or even the fact that he may have need to fight for it excites him.

"Now this is the joy of life."

Far from average life he lived before and most importantly far from that perpetual boredom in the Void

In Kuroyuri months passed slowly since the time Stephen came in. As a decent person, someone shouldn't felt any remorse for taking in injured kid, an amnesiac one at that. Maroon didn't know if he was a decent person if he felt a little regret for taking him in.

After almost a week, the kid write on paper that he only remembered his name which is Stephen Coal, with the courtesy name of Chen Tianji that means Dawn Chronicle. Almost everyone know that custom of bestowing courtesy names was rendered unusable years ago even before the Great War in Mistral. Most considered it outdated and bothersome to remember two names, though Maroon felt the later was the main reason. The only one that uses it was some elusive nomadic tribe that wanted to stay true to their culture if it bestowed one to kid like Stephen.

Fortunately, no bandit tribe like that exist. But unfortunately finding one was a pain enough and there is a chance that the tribe doesn't exist anymore if fate be cruel enough. No sane adults would have their kids prowling around in the forest while injured and carrying a combat knife unsuited for them. Coupled with the fact their residence doctor found that the kid got serious scarring caused by bladed weapon that was roughly patched.

The nearest settlements nor the passing huntsman or huntress reports about missing child that fits Stephen. So in all, it leaves him orphaned on top of being amnesiac. And if Maroon somehow messed up when he tried to heal Stephen then consider him crippled too. Maroon despite his semblance is not a doctor but a damn hunter. Each time he patched someone up was last option and even then he was guided and monitored by their Doctor, so he felt obligated to took care of Stephen due to malpractices he may have caused.

Still doesn't make him feel better taking Stephen in. Call him heartless and all of that, he doesn't care. Honestly there is nothing fundamentally wrong with Stephen. He got somewhat an adult mindset, he can cook, clean, gardening, and took care of himself. Stephen even trained in aura manipulation all by himself through experimenting on it. At times, the kid was working as helper to some adults for some lien. If Stephen was his son, he will be proud of him. Yet in some instances, he caught the kid BETTING with adults for some extra lien. Though in honesty, it still not a problem to him.

The problem was the brand new insanity he brought every time he was bored and there is nothing to distract him. Terrorizing bunch of kid with pranks until they broke down crying was one of the tamest things he's done. Granted, they're a bully but he did it not because they're a bully nor because they insulted him or anything but because he was bored. Stephen only regretted it because he carried it until they're crying.

One time he built a trench that surround the village in a three days as a form of training. Three fucking days. Somehow he managed convince a lot of people to participate. For extra protection in Kuroyuri he said.

Maroon still think that the kid was just bored and only time will tell when he finally managed to convince the chief to build a wall that surrounded the village. He saw the blueprint Stephen draw in his room. It honestly looks like something from hundreds of years ago when the ruling authority still lives in the castle.

There is also that time when he caused a divorce of their neighbor. One of them was cheating and Stephen caught the wind of it before he decided to cause a shitstorm. Fletcher and some friends of the poor guy got involved in it.

"Maroon, don't you have anything better to do? You shouldn't have drinking alcohol in the morning."

At any other times, he won't be irritated but this time was different. He just sat leisurely the couch without opening his eyes. Trying to ignore Stephen annoying voice.

"No, I don't fucking have anything to do today," He was a grumpy guy in the morning and being out of coffee just add into it. "Did you dump the coffee or something? There's a whole bag of it and it's gone."

"Oh that? I accidentally dropped the content to the ground when I'm making one so.. yeah, I dumped it."

The urge to strangle him was strong. Maroon was sure that Stephen probably hide the whole bag for himself. Even though he is a kid, Stephen is akin to coffee addict and an old man slapped into younger body with his taste. He drinks at least three cup a day, something he shouldn't have in his age.

"And you told me I shouldn't drink alcohol in the morning? What am I suppose to drink then? Water?"

Yes, you should. Is probably what Stephen wanted to said to him but since he is already treading on thin line, he decided to go all the way in.

"You're a bad influence Maroon," Stephen cackled as he moved around pass him into the door not far away from them. "No wonder Ms. Ivy dumped you."

"That's it kid! I'll whipped you with my belt!" Maroon opened his eyes and glared at Stephen retreating form that already halfway through the door. "Get back you little shit!"

Maroon stood up as giggle escaped Stephen's masked mouth as he ran away from Maroon. He watched as Stephen went into a corner and escaped his eyes. He didn't bother to chase Stephen. The kid somehow always knew when someone was into him and he was good at evasive maneuvering.

He grumbled Maroon just sat down and enjoyed his beers again as he closed his eyes. Imagining straggling Stephen for all the trouble he caused. He won't carry it out of course. You can call Maroon heartless or anything, but in the end he grew on the little shit like a mushroom.

No matter how many time he did it, messing with Maroon never get boring. As disgusting as it is, he would call Maroon the stubborn and old tsundere. The bald red bearded man that was built like a lumberjack always lectures him about acting like a kid his age and stirred him away from acting the way he is. In the end, Maroon always there stand behind him no matter how big the shitstorm he caused. He is just like his late grandfather from his first life.

Living in Kuroyuri, which was located in Remnant a world of fiction RWBY was big surprise to him. The Provider should've said so really, but at least his confusion back when people explained him about Remnant and grimms made people labeled him as amnesiac. Convenient excuse for him to start new with blank sheet instead of treading carefully with people who knew his new body.

In this life, he could pursue what he can't in previous life. Namely living in fantasy. His nerd wet dreams was being a strong magician that is master of all. Even though he doesn't have magic at least he has a Remnant's Aura and HxH Aura (Nen). With it, if he doesn't have magic then he could design a powerful abilities that could place him above other in here. And maybe, maybe he could go home.

Amidst his thought, Stephen still run across Kuroyuri without stopping. Before long, he reached the border of Kuroyuri and went into the forest.

"This should do." Stephen stopped when he reached an open space with trees standing apart in wide distance. He calmed his breath before standing still in relaxed stance.

'Ken.' He started to practice advance version of Ren and Ten by emitting it from allover his body. He decided that training in keeping up Ren is not challenging enough for him so he did it with Ken. So far he is already advanced enough in almost every principle except Hatsu. His type, which was conjurer somehow created an ability by itself. A troublesome ability to conjure nen beasts depending on his needs with different conditions for each beast to go out, and not to mention the rule to keep it activated.

He tested the non-combat ones on those little bully he can found on the village. Those jinmenken could tracked them for a long time, communicates efficiently with each others and me, and also gave psychological damage to one sanity if they didn't know anything about it. Overall a perfect hound dog to tracked things.

He couldn't test most of his nen beasts in battle except when he begged to be trained with Fletcher and few bored guards. Most don't even want to spar with him after he used those Nen beast. Some even suggested that he should checked his head for him to conjure those things. His Nen beasts was also the reason why kids his age or even teenager steers away from him every time he was near them.

Right now he tried to up his time maintaining Ken for as long as he can.

Seconds turned into minutes and minutes turned into hours. Stephen felt his limit approached and stopped flaring his Nen.

"That is probably 1 hours of Ken?" He honestly forgot about other people limit HxH but at least he knew that this place him among people with good potential for Nen. As he recover his Nen he decided to train his Aura using principles of Nen.

Interestingly, while Aura doesn't gave the same degree of freedom in development and offensive strength, the defensive aspect and the buff Aura gave is almost better than Nen. Stephen found that he can shifted the force that hit him through aura to other place. The prerequisites is that one need to do it in an instant before the force dispersed through the aura, damaging it. There is also the fact that he needed to shifted it linearly while using principles Ryu with the chance of not fully dispersing the force or Ko with the risk of injuring yourself. It depends on timing when you pulled it off.

Using Ryu and Zetsu you can hastening recovery process of injury. If the aura was left to heal injury on it's own, it will heal all wound at the same time without prioritizing the most grievous one. Unfortunately he only found all of that through his experimentation in the past months.

As physical training goes, if he didn't trained alone then he went to available hunter and militia in exchange for favors or even paid them up for it. The favors ranged from normal things like skinning animal carcass, cleaning their house, to plain weird like playing messenger between them and the person they like. It almost felt like he was playing an RPG and doing side quest for extra level in skills.

Luckily he somehow still retained his skill in previous life. As strange as it was. Changing bodies doesn't mean that muscle memory was carried through. He guess being transmigrated by Provider has it's perk. Though what still baffled him is his talent in Aura and Nen. He was sure that it took Gon and Killua four months under Wings while battling in Heaven Arena before they reached his level of control and aura.

He mused inside his head as he trained Aura in principles of Nen. Starting from 3 major principles before he moved to their advance version. That time he spent on Void probably changed his soul deep inside. As far as he knew, he probably almost got Huntsman in training level of aura with unique colorings that most didn't have.

Different than his Nen that recovered slower and has smaller capacity than his Aura, he could trained his Aura longer than Nen before switching between the two. In breaks of Aura and Nen training, he did physical training and martial arts kata. With the perks of having Aura and Nen, he could keep training like this every day.

What he lacks right now is just experience in battling Grimm and humans. What available hunters or guards did are just giving him tips and kata besides breaking his bad habits. What he truly need is living target for practice. Anyone can do.

In hindsight, he should've kept his mouth shut. Murphy law is universal law anywhere, whether you're in another world or not.

"Don't you think you're far away from home kid? Do you want us to escort you?"

A tall brunette in her thirty approached him with smile plastered on her face. She wears unzipped blue jacket that covered grey shirt and ripped Jean's. Stephen looked aside to see her companion face that was filled with concern. He was a man in his twenty and clad in Mistralian equal to hakama in black color.

A normal sight of concerned adults when they found a child all alone in the forest. It's all normal if there are no other people sneaking around and stay still behind him.

With a quick En, he found at least five more are hidden and scattered around him. With their outline, each one of them has a weapon. Turning this scene into prelude of child trafficking.

"Kid?" the woman stepped closer, gaining his attention once again. "Are you alright? We saw you played all alone in here. Don't your parent teach you that its not okay to played in the forest alone?"

Her act could've fooled a lot of people really. Signifying her experiences in this inhumane act.

"I.. they don't.. I'm an orphan." Stephen decided to play along. If Murphy decided to screw him over, might as well milked it for experience. Stephen has his chance to test his skill if he caught them off guard before screaming for help. In case there's someone passing by that could've help him. "Can you.. take me back to the orphanage? It's not far from here." He then pointed at the general direction of Kuroyuri. Unless they're amateur child traffickers then they're supposed to know their surrounding.

The woman then exchanged glance with her companion before smiled and walked to Stephen. She leaned and offered her hand to him.

He fidgeted before he raised his hand toward the woman opened palm. Before his hand met her, he stopped it.

"Can you call an ambulance?" the woman looked at him blankly. "an ambulance?"

Stephen then grasped her hand tightly before he pulled her down and punched her with full strength, Aura and Nen infused fist.

"But not for me!"
