When JJ heard about Hotch, she was worried. If Mr Scratch was after Jack and couldn't get to him, he could easily also decide to go after her and her boys if he wasn't already and JJ and Will hadn't noticed. She also wished she could have helped Hotch. They all did. Hearing Emily had been offered unit chief was, however, a massive silver lining. If she chose to take it maybe, they could make a relationship work. She knew workplace relationships could be messy but being in the same city would certainly make it possible now. That's if Emily also wanted it. She knew the brunette had feelings towards her but wasn't sure if she was up to getting into a workplace relationship. They already spent so much time together.

"I'm going to stay." She told JJ and Reid on the jet on the way back from the case. JJ was so relieved. She couldn't imagine losing her friend now, nor could she imagine someone new being brought in to lead the team.

"Em. Can we talk?" She asked that night, once she was sure the rest of the team had left the office. The alcohol had given her some dutch courage to tell the brunette how she really felt.

"Sure, JJ. What is it?" Emily asked.

"Do you want to go out for dinner tomorrow? You know, on a date?" She asked, watching for micro expressions to get an idea as to how Emily may respond.

"Are you ready to start dating again?" Emily asked the blonde. She knew breaking up with will had hurt her a lot.

"I'm ready to start dating you," JJ replied. It was easier with Emily. She already knew and trusted her. "Is that a yes?"

"Yes." Emily was glad she and JJ felt the same way about each other. She knew workplace relationships could get messy, and she wasn't quite sure how she'd feel if it came to being out at work. Not that JJ and Garcia hadn't known for years, but she knew it could easily get further than that if JJ and Emily were in a relationship. "Where do you want to go?" Emily asked.

"You like Mexican. How about that nice place in DC?" JJ replied.

"Sure. I love Mexican. London really doesn't do it as well." Emily agreed.

"Great, it's a date." She agreed, suddenly getting butterflies in her tummy. She'd not dated a woman since college; it was new and exciting. But there was also that nervousness. What if it didn't work out and they had to work together after?

"It's a date." Emily agreed. She also had butterfly's in her tummy. She'd been attracted to the young blonde for years and was finally getting a chance to be with her. She really hoped it would work out, that they would be compatible together.

The next day Emily was getting ready for her date with JJ. She wasn't sure why she felt so nervous. It wasn't like she didn't know JJ and didn't know how well they got on together. She selected a pair of black skinny jeans and a forest green silk blouse, wearing some black heeled boots. God, she wished she had someone to ask if she looked okay, but she didn't. Normally she'd go to Penelope or JJ for things like this, but Penelope wouldn't even manage to keep her and JJ dating a secret for 24 hours. She'd probably not even make it 12. She'd be so excited. She could go to Tara. Tara Lewis could probably keep the secret, but she didn't want anyone on the team knowing yet, and neither did JJ, so she just had to trust her own fashion choices.

JJ was equally as nervous. She chose some dark blue jeans and a leopard print cami top with a black fluffy jacket as it was cold out. She also hoped she looked okay but had no one to go to for fashion choices who she wanted to know about her date with Emily.

Fortunately for both of them, their nerves were unfounded. They went back to JJ's for the night and passionately kissed each other. Emily sleeping cuddled with JJ in bed.
