Only two scenes in this chapter, but it's still plenty long. I hope you all enjoy it!

Claire's coupé rolled to a halt outside of one of the biggest paddocks Emily had ever seen. It was at least forty feet tall, and there were construction workers all around it, making it even taller presumably.

The paleontologist followed Lizzy out of the vehicle and towards a set of metal stair, Owen in front of them. Lizzy leaned over, her dark brown curls bouncing as she walked, "I don't hear any dinosaur noises, do you?"

Emily shook her head, "None."

Lizzy just frowned and quickened her pace, Emily following suit.

Claire led the way to the stairs, "We've been prebooking tickets for months. The park needs a new attraction every few years to reinvigorate the public's interest. Kind of like the space program." Claire paused as they began mounting the stairs, "Corporate felt genetic modification would up the wow factor."

"They're dinosaurs, wow enough," Owen sarcastically said.

"Not according to our focus groups," Claire reached the top of the stairs, "The Indominus Rex makes us relevant again."

Lizzy chuckled, "The Indominus Rex…"

"We needed something scary and easy to pronounce." Claire turned to face them all, "You should hear a four-year-old try to say Archaeornithomimus."

Emily had to suppress a sigh, "You should hear you try to say it."

Claire ignored Emily's comment and punched a code into the keypad of the door, which opened. They all stepped inside, and Claire crossed over to the viewing windows, and a small computer screen that stood there.

Emily followed Lizzy and Owen over to the window, crossing her arms as she surveyed the lush paddock, "We're inspecting your paddock, so what's this thing made of?"

"The base genome is T-Rex, the rest is, classified." Claire was also surveying the paddock.

Emily stared at Claire for a moment, reminded of why she hated InGen. They'd just gone and blended the DNA of several species of dinosaurs together… And they wouldn't even tell her all of them…

Owen approached the glass, "You made a new dinosaur, but you don't even know what it is?"

"The lab delivers us finished assets and we show them to the public." Claire gently messed with the ends of her hair, "Can we drop a steer please?"

The paddock worker nodded and took a bite of his cheeseburger. He then pressed a few buttons, and a crane began to carry what looked like half a cow carcass toward the center of the paddock.

"How long has the animal been in here?" Owen's eyes were on the paddock, searching for the dinosaur.

"All its life."

"It's never seen anything outside of these walls?"

"We can't exactly walk it."

Emily watched the steer carcass lower towards the ground, "And you feed it with a crane?"

"Is there a problem?" Claire was acting like all this was perfectly normal. And if Emily was honest, that's why she didn't much like the woman. No regard for the dinosaurs of Jurassic World wellbeing coupled with a general cold attitude, well, Claire reminded Emily of Dr. Wu, another person she didn't much like.

Lizzy put in, "Animals raised in isolation aren't always the most functional."

"Your raptors are born in captivity."

Owen turned toward Claire, walking behind Emily to get closer to the park operations manager, "With siblings. They learn social skills. And I imprint on them when they're born. There's trust. The only positive relationship this animal has is with that crane." Owen pointed at the crane, "At least she knows that means food."

"So, she needs a friend? We should schedule playdates, that sort of thing?"

"Probably not a good idea."

Claire leaned forward and rapped on the glass several times, "Where is it?"

"What, is it in the basement?" Owen's hand were on his hips, "There a downstairs? Maybe it's in the rec-room."

"It was just here. We were just here…"

Emily turned her head to watch Claire walk towards another console, and then shifted her gaze back out the window. Claire was right. They should've seen the dinosaur, or at least some sign of it by now. The paleontologist could hear Claire hitting buttons on the console, and then several sharp beeping noises that were not buttons Claire was hitting.

Turning, Emily realized that the beeping noises were several screens on the wall lighting up with the same message,

"No thermal signatures detected."

Emily let out a shaky breath, hardly registering Owen's, "Oh shi-" from the other side of the room.

The paddock worker turned to look at the screens, then back at his computer, "That doesn't make any sense." He put the rest of his burger in his mouth, "These doors haven't opened in weeks."

Both Emily and Claire stared at him as Lizzy walked over by Owen and gasped as he said, "Were those claw marks always there?"

Emily hurried over to stand next to him, taking in the gouge marks on the concrete wall. Her breath hitched. They had to be at least six feet long, and they went right up to, the top of the wall…

Claire walked in their direction, let out a breath as she saw the marks and said, "You think it…?"

Owen just turned back to look at the six-foot claw marks.

And it seemed they all came to the same conclusion at the same time. Emily just breathed a shaky, "Oh god…"

Claire hurried for the door, heels clicking on the floor, "She has an implant in her back, I can track it from the control room." The park operations manager hurriedly left the control area, and Owen and Lizzy started talking.

But Emily only had space for one thought in her mind;

It's happening again.

The elevator door slid open, and Emily followed Owen and the paddock worker, who'd introduced himself as Nick on the ride down, out into the Indominus Rex paddock, Lizzy just behind her. Every fiber of her being screamed at her to go back up to the control room, but Emily ignored that screaming and looked over the paddock.

There were steer bones strewn over the mulch-like ground. Tropical birds called back and forth nearby. The foliage was almost identical to the jungle outside, which would not have been the case had Emily been allowed to do her job and inspect the paddock like she would any other in the park. Owen, the paddock worker, some other maintenance guy and a woman who looked like she was ACU stood over by the claw marks.

But Emily approached a tree, which also had deep gouge marks in it. A quick glance at the ones on the wall confirmed that these were much smaller.

"It definitely climbed out," Lizzy spoke from behind Emily, nearly causing her to jump, "because these are-"

"Much smaller," Emily finished her friend's sentence.

Lizzy nodded, "That wall is what, forty feet high? How could it have climbed out? T-Rex's don't exactly have functional arms."

"But it's not all Tyrannosaur. Depending on what else Wu added to this thing, it's very likely it could've climbed the wall." Emily had to force her voice to stay steady.

Lizzy just craned her neck back to look at the rest of the scratches on the tree. And across the paddock, Emily heard a staticky message come from the ACU woman's commlink. Turning, both she and Lizzy made out the message this time, "It's in the cage! It's in there with you!"

"Go!" was all Emily heard Owen shout as they all ran for the elevator. Her heart was racing, the Indominus Rex couldn't have just climbed back into the cage, that didn't make any sense. And where the hell was it?!

Emily got her answer within seconds. Branches began cracking and the foliage started to shake, right in between her and Lizzy and Owen's group. An absolutely massive dinosaur stepped out of the trees and into the open, facing Owen. Emily could feel her hands shaking, it had to be at least thirty feet tall and oh god it was terrifying.

Acting on almost instinct, Emily skidded to a halt and dropped down behind some dense bushes, pulling Lizzy with her. She could feel the ground shaking as the Indominus Rex chased Owen and the other workers.

One of the men screamed, and Emily could only pray that she and Lizzy hadn't been noticed. The man screamed again, and there was a distinctive wet crunch. Emily could hardly breath, someone had been eaten.

Beside her, Lizzy tried to peer over the bushes, but Emily threw out an arm and pulled her down, not daring to say a word. The dinosaur roared and Lizzy seemed to get the message; Don't move and we might survive.

Its footsteps were thunderous but getting further away. Emily almost considered peering over the bush, but the sound of the Indominus Rex slamming through what sounded like concrete deterred her.

It roared again, it's footsteps slower now. Emily and Lizzy waited in silence for a few seconds before there was a massive crash, followed almost immediately by another wet crunch. Even from the distance they were at, Emily could hear it moving around and breathing loudly, which only served to make her heart beat faster, and her breathing quicken.

This was nothing like being hunted by raptors. This dinosaur, if you could even call it that, wasn't hunting, it was slaughtering, killing whatever it came across. It roared again, and the sound grated on Emily's ears. But its footsteps began to retreat again.

And after a few minutes of silence, Emily dared to peer over the bushes, motioning for Lizzy to stay down. The large concrete door was half destroyed, which meant that the Indominus Rex was now lose in the park.

Emily let out a shaky breath and stood, slowly walking to the right till she could see out the door better. It appeared to be gone.

"We have to find Owen," Lizzy murmured from beside her, clearly not having listened to Emily at all.

Emily didn't take her eyes off the area past the gate, not trusting the silence, "I know. But next time, try to listen."

Lizzy just nodded. Emily took a deep breath and fixed her fedora a little, hands shaking. And with another steadying breath, the paleontologist began walking toward to destroyed door, Lizzy behind her.

They were about halfway there when Owen rolled out from under a truck the ACU woman behind him, nearly giving Emily a heart attack. Both women quickened their pace, reaching the gravel outside by the time he'd noticed them.

"You guys, okay?" was the only thing Owen said.

Emily let out like her fourteenth shaky breath of the day, "I feel like I'm going to have a panic attack, but otherwise, yeah. You okay?"

Owen nodded, "Fine. This is, actually, I didn't catch your name."

All eyes turned to the ACU woman, who had short black hair with purple ends, "Briana Rogers. Head of the ACU Carnivore Division. And you are?"

"Owen Grady, head raptor trainer and animal behaviorist."

"Lizzy Greene, assistant raptor trainer."

"Dr. Emily Grant, consulting paleontologist."

"Brilliant, but we really should be getting out of here," Briana fingered a pistol, eyes scanning their surroundings.

Lizzy pointed over to where they'd parked earlier, "Looks like there's a jeep over there."

Owen led the way, "I'll drive."

Emily just followed, her heart still beating way to fast. All these years, she'd promised herself that she could prevent another disaster from happening if she stayed here, worked here. But now, she knew that was a lie. And for the second time in one day, Emily found one thought pounding through her brain;

It's happening again.

Alright, more panicky Emily. I'm pretty happy with this chapter, though the last one still felt like it flowed better. Eh, oh well.

I like to think that the way everyone introduces themselves at the end here is kinda telling of their character. Owen has a slightly formal introduction because he's introducing himself, Lizzy's is pretty casual, Emily uses her full title because she's tense and is professionally introducing herself.

Briana is a friend's oc, if said friend ever makes a account I'll be sure to list it somewhere.
