Hat

Song I've got lovely bunch of coconuts, by Harold Elton Box

Summary: Holly doesn't like wise and knowing voices. That's okay because the sorting Hat didn't like her singing.

The hat wasn't very happy the moment he met Holly. Maybe, because she was singing in her head, poorly of tune and rather loud.

"I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts. there they are, all standing in a row. Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head. Give them a twist a flick of the wrist. That's what the showman said."

"Ah, I see," the hat said. "Your mind a little bit twisted. Did you know that? All about colours one moment, strange and dark times. Very mix up, very lost. But you have light don't you. Oh, yes there is a friend I see."

"Hey," she thought back. "Sort me in a house and not read my life story."

The hat hummed.

"Fiercely to. Yes, I see. I see just where to put you. Although, you may wish to work on your singing. Even inside your mind it was awfully out of tune."

"I'll burn you," she threatened.

"That's nice," the hat said supportively. "Maybe work on your singing afterwards."

"I just threatened you," she said.

"I know. And, you won't be the first student to do so nor would you be the last. Now, where to put you? Ah, yes, I know."

"About time. I could've died."

"Highly doubt it," the hat said in a wise and knowing voice.

Holly decided she didn't like wise and knowing voices.

"Hufflepuff," the hat said out loud the students cheered.

She tried not to notice Harry disappoint expression as she walked to the Hufflepuff table.
