CHAPTER 4: Ohh, this sucks on so many levels!

Korra paced restlessly, she couldn't help it, what was taking Doctor Fa so long? She heard a crash in the room and she kicked out, sending a gust of air and nearly breaking the door off its hinges. Rushing into the room she saw Asami still in bed, Dr. Fa and the nurse looked at Korra. "Avatar, please, I told you to wait outside!" Korra looked around, not seeing anything wrong. What was going on, was she losing her mind? She bowed apologetically, her right fist up against her left palm as she left the room, trying her best to shut the door. Only then did she manage to call out a muffled "sorry!" from the other side.

Fa Mulan continued her tests, using a thermometer and other tools to aid her, giving directions to her nurse helper, a nice young fresh out of medical school lady named Ming Na. This was strange. She felt cold yet the methods she used said she was running a fever. Checking her results again, she conducted more tests. Ms. Sato appeared to be fighting off an infection but she could see no signs of anything. Giving her an injection, she waited as she asked the nurse to find anything on their patient, any medical records. After the nurse left, she pressed her fingers to Asami's neck checking her pulse. This was so strange and getting stranger. The young woman's body was behaving as though she were losing blood…it was as if *something* was evaporating her blood from the inside out.

Asami's eyes suddenly snapped open, but they were wrong somehow. They looked the same, a vibrant beautiful green, but there was something not right about her gaze as she smiled at the good Doctor.

"Call the Avatar…now."

Mulan stumbled back as Asami had taken hold of her white coat and shoved her back with surprising strength and the doctor grunted as she hit the wall, her young assistant nurse backing away from Asami.

"Avatar!" shouted Asami…who was not really Asami.

Korra ran into the room, her worried expression giving away to a smile which lasted only for a few moments as she skidded to a stop, keeping an eye on Asami as she helped the good Doctor onto her feet, whispering for her and her nurse to get out of the room fast, which they did.

"Asami…?" Korra asked, taking a step towards her.

*Asami* smiled, but it was a smile of sickness, not a physical sickness, but a strange familiar sickness. "Avatar…." She said with a mock affection, her arms spread wide as she stood there.

"Wait, you're not….Amon!" Korra cried out, her eyes going wide. "Very good, Avatar…," said Asami/Amon.

Meanwhile….

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" cried Bolin, briefly shutting his eyes as they made a beeline straight for the side of Verrick's yacht. "Stairs!" called out Mako and Bolin understood now why he was bending the slabs with them. He flung his arms forward, bending the slabs of stone so they formed stepping stones leading up to the deck of the ship. Naga launched herself up onto them, but Bolin started slipping since his hands were unable to grab onto his brother. He fought to keep upright, straining as he managed to keep the "steps" steady enough as they made it up onto the main deck of the yacht.

They got off Naga and ran into the Bridge where Varrick and Zhu Li were standing, steering their ship since they'd sailed it by themselves.

"Mako?" Varrick asked as they stepped apart, having turned to face the arriving trio while Naga poked her big head in through the door and growled a low sad sound.

"Varrick, Asami's hurt, she and Korra are at Lady Katara Hospital, we need to get there now!"

Varrick nodded and spun quickly, pointing with his usual flare as he said, "Zhu Li, do the thing!" His wife smiled and pecked his cheek before turning as she yanked a lever near the wheel down hard, saying, "hold on everyone!" The yacht became a big speed boat as they all stumbled back, Mako and Kya hitting the aft walls and Bolin stumbling back into Naga's face. He turned and asked if she was ok and she just whined and gently licked his hand.

They all looked out as they entered the river inlet that would take them to the hospital, which was so convenient! Hold on, Asami, hold on Korra, we're almost there, thought Mako, helping Kya to stand firm against the acceleration.

Korra meanwhile, charged at the possessed Asami, hoping to stun her enough so she could perform a spirit exorcism. Amon, in Asami, smiled that sickly smile as he raised her arms and stopped Korra with his powerful blood bending. His smile only got wider as he lifted her off the floor, helplessly. "Well hey, what do you know? Guess there are perks to being supernaturally possessed!"

"Stop it!" Dr. Fa pleaded, taking a step towards the girls and Amon spared them little mind until that point. "A good idea…." And with his left hand, he flung it at the good doctor and her nurse and stopped their hearts with his bending and they dropped to the floor, dead in an instant.

"A-Amon…y-you ca-uuhh!" Korra struggled to breathe, much less speak as Amon tightened his grip on her body.

Opening his hands, Asami's hands, he flung her hard against the wall. "No more words…" he said in her voice, slowly clenching his hands and Korra screamed as pain shot through her body. He used his bending to make her blood clot and her arms and legs slowly began to lose their feeling and their color. She looked at Asami helplessly. She could do nothing, but she should have, when she had the chance earlier, to bend. Her screams continued as tears ran down her face, her features twisted in anguish.

Asami's sick Amon smile stopped as her body jerked and she wrenched her hands down, releasing Korra from Amon's blood bending torture. She looked at herself in the mirror, she was struggling, having regained her senses as she fought Amon's control. She looked at Korra, her eyes spilling with tears as she saw her love's darkened skin where her blood had clotted along her arms and no doubt her legs too. "K-Korra…I'm sorry…I love you…."

"Asami? Asami no!" Korra struggled to stand, her eyes glowing as she entered the Avatar state to give herself the strength, but it was too late. Asami flung her hands at the mirror, using Amon's power against him as he screamed a cry of fury in her voice, Asami's body being hurled through the window, plummeting to the cold empty street 7 stories below.
