A/N: One quick Author's note, this story will be switching to a first person perspective told from Ezra's POV. I tend to reveal to much in the third person and it was a good experiment, but I am going back to what I am good at. Also I want to do a special chapter tomorrow for May the fourth and to do that, I need the last Spark of Rebellion Chapter out. I am not going to completely rewrite Season 1 in this version because manda knows that was painful. A few chapters to sum up the major events will suffice.
And once again today, Ezra was terrified.
Day 210, 5 BBY
I looked down the ramp to where Emily was standing, and one thought went through my head. I'm dead. I put my helmet on as fast as I could to prevent the others from seeing the incredible blush that was present on my face.
"Hey, Emily. Uhh, I know you're mad, but I swear I did it in our best interests!"
Emily had her helmet off, and she did not look amused. I slowly walked down the ramp until I was standing right in front her. I couldn't bear to meet her gaze until she had me wrapped up in a hug.
"Ez, you're reckless, boneheaded, stubborn, and sometimes just an overall idiot."
I melted into the hug a little bit, "but?"
She released the hug and looked at me, "But, you are my little vod. And you did it this time."
I laughed, knowing my sister wasn't that mad at me. Most likely, she would have some choice words later and a punishment, but she would have chewed me out in front of everybody if she was actually mad.
Emily smiled and looked up at the crew, "Thank you all for taking care of my brother. I apologize for the lack of information, but we can't really trust just anybody. Hopefully he wasn't much trouble."
She said that list bit with a bit of a glare towards me. I knew what it meant. I had better not have started any unnecessary trouble. Which, in all honestly, I did. Quite a bit.
I sheepishly looked down at the ground not really looking at anybody until I heard Emily speak up, "What did he do, and how much do we owe you for it?"
I look up at her indignantly, but quickly drop it seeing as she wasn't wrong.
Kanan spoke up first, "I think the only thing he actually damaged was our pride. He's quite impressive for being so young."
I look up at him a little annoyed, "I'm a Mandalorian, I could wipe the floor with you when I was ten."
That comment earned me a smack to the back of the head from Emily, "OW, calm down a bit would ya."
She quickly turned on me crossing her arms, "Have some damn respect. They could have sold you, turned you in, or just killed you. But no, they brought your ungrateful ass back."
Seeing my sister slightly mad at me got me slightly mad at her, "And if they tried anything, none of them would be standing there alive! I put the purple one on his back in seconds and he's the one that's supposed to be their muscle. The only one there that could even hope to fight against me is Sabine."
That last part might not be completely true. Depending on how trained he is, if Kanan had his lightsaber, he would probably be able to get past me. But he didn't.
I didn't give her a chance to respond as I continued on, "And even she went down to a few whistling birds! So no, they should be thanking me for not killing all of them. EVEN THOUGH ZEB CALLED ME A COWARD!"
Emily's attention immediately switched from me to the crew, "Which one of you is Zeb?"
Sabine didn't give anybody a chance to respond before stepping in between the crew and my sister and I.
"Seeing as I actually understood that little conversation, let's set some things straight. One, the crew never thought about doing anything to your brother." She then turned to me, "Two, your right. You caught us by surprise and managed to drop each of us except Hera at different times. But, when we're together, like we were in the ship, you wouldn't have stood a chance against this crew." She turned back to Emily for her final point, "Three, yes Zeb did call Ezra a coward. Ezra was about to kill him, but I talked him out of it."
Emily turned back to me, "Did you really go soft because of a pretty face?"
I tore my helmet off and glared up at her, "No, I figured if I killed Zeb, I then would have to kill everybody else. Then I thought about you! I figured if I killed everybody else, I might as well kill myself because manda knows I can't fly that thing. And if that happened I would practically be abandoning you, and I would never even consider leaving you. Not after what's happened."
By the end of that little confession my face had turned from a glare to one of despair, hurt, and pain. Scars really did come in many forms.
Luckily for me, Emily knew exactly what I was talking about and instead of saying anything she just pulled me away from everybody, "Would you all give us a second please?" She didn't even wait for their response. Instead she just guided me to the speeder she brought and hugged me while I broke down.
It's been a long time since I actually broke down. But right now, with the memories and the thoughts of losing Emily, a dam broke. And like always, Emily was right there to comfort me through it. She really has taken up the mantle our parents left behind.
As I managed to calm down Emily squeezed me a bit closer, "Hey, I'm never going to leave you. I will always be there with you. Just like mom and dad will always be with us."
I shook my head, "I still shouldn't be crying over this osik. It happened years ago and here I am crying like a kid."
Emily broke the hug and grabbed my shoulders, looking down at me. "You are a kid, Ez. You still got two more years before you're done with that. That doesn't mean you're weak though. Ez, you are the strongest kid I know. Leave the adulting to your big sis, and allow yourself to let some of this stuff go."
I smiled slightly at that, "Thanks Em. But let's get it right, I'll be an adult in a year and a half. Not two years."
...
I looked up at Emily, "You know, they feel like them."
Emily let go of my shoulders and leaned up against the speeder beside me. We watched the crew unload some crates for a couple minutes.
"What do you mean?"
I continued to watch the crew while pondering my sisters question.
"Hera, she feels just like mom. She was never mean to me, and tried to comfort me when I was uncomfortable. Kanan, I'm not sure. In some ways I felt dad in him. Sabine kind of reminded me of you. I don't know, for some reason the walls I spent the last seven and a half years building seemed to crack the more I spent with them."
Emily laughed, "Good to know the girl you obviously have a crush on reminds you of me."
I choked a little at that, "I didn't mean it like that. I just mean... well. I'm not into you like that. But, honestly you're the strongest person I know. You're a warrior, a sister who has to be a mother sometimes, caring, compassionate, and a whole lot more. I love you more than anything in the galaxy. I'm not attracted to you, but you have all the qualities I would want in someone I am attracted to. I've known Sabine for all of a few hours, but in that I've found out she's incredibly attractive, a warrior, loyal, and caring."
Emily smirked and gave me a side look, "You calling me ugly, Ez?"
I sighed and hung my head, "I give you a piece of my heart and that's your response? No Em, you are not ugly."
She isn't. In fact she's incredibly beautiful. She got the good genes from our parents, while I got the leftovers.
Emily elbowed my side, "I'm just messing with you Ezra. No, I'm glad you finally found somebody you like. I would say go for it, but I doubt we'll see them much longer."
As if on cue Hera waved us over.
We approached the crew before Hera spoke up, "We talked it over and because of Ezra's help in acquiring the last two crates, we'd be willing to give you guys a small share of the profits. Kanan and I are going to sell them to our contact now, so you can either wait with your speeder or go with Sabine and Zeb."
Emily pondered it for a moment, "We'll go with those two wherever they're going. Ezra has a tendency to snoop around, so we'll stay away from your ship."
I shook my head in exasperation, "You're out for blood today, jeez. Wanna share any other of my less than desirable habits?"
Emily tilted her head a bit, "Well, there is-"
"Nope! We're leaving. Thank you very much Hera, just point us in the right direction."
Emily broke out laughing as Hera pointed us towards Sabine and Zeb.
After being with them for a little while we had handed out food to the people of Tarkintown. I felt like I didn't deserve any of the thanks, as I was only out for myself. Emily on the other hand seemed to feel great. She had even bonded with Sabine quite a bit. By the end of the small visit they were smiling and openly talking about things.
It was on our way back to the ship when I felt it. That force presence earlier, Kanan, seemed to open himself up to the force. As if he had been cutting himself off before. I could instantly feel him.
I shrugged it off for the time being and continued on the journey back to the ship.
Once we were back to the ramp we were met with Kanan and Hera. They motioned Sabine and Zeb to go in the ship before turning to us.
Hera spoke up first, "We have your payment as promised, but there's something we want to ask. You two seem like quite capable people and could be very beneficial to the crew. We'd like to extend an invitation to join the crew."
Emily looked very conflicted before Kanan continued on, "There's something else. I don't know what your reaction to this will be seeing as you're Mandalorian, but, Ezra, you have a gift."
Me and Emily both took our helmets off and looked at each other.
Kanan continued on, "Ezra do you know what the Jedi are?"
I nod my head as he continues on, "Well, you have the potential to become a Jedi. You're force sensitive Ezra. To confirm it I have a quick challenge for you."
He held out one of his hands, and in it was a holocron, "I'd like you to try and open this."
I smirk a little. He has no clue that both my sister and I already knew this and I've been learning the basics for the last seven months.
I pretend to try and pry it open a little bit, and Emily instantly catches on.
Kanan tilts his head a bit, "Not gonna get it like that."
I manage to keep a straight face as I look at it and pour my entire concentration into it. Making it open up in mere seconds.
Kanan's eyes widened in shock and I decide to put him out his misery. Mostly because I couldn't keep a straight face anymore.
As I start laughing I close the holocron and toss it back to him, "Oh Kanan, you should've seen the look on your face. I already know about the force and the Jedi. We have some ... family possessions that have been helping me learn the basics. But I'm not looking for a teacher."
Emily elbows me slightly, "That is, if you were offering to teach him."
Kanan nods, "I myself was a Padawan in the temple, so my training wasn't fully complete. But my master left me some tools in case I ever came across a force sensitive. A few of them are so I would be able to teach them. This holocron, happens to be one of them."
Hera continues on, "We completely understand if you don't want to. Although, we can offer three meals a day, a mostly clean room, and a roof over your head. Not to mention messing with the empire pretty often."
Emily looked at me, and I can tell she wants to accept. She connected with Sabine and like me sees bits of mom and dad in Hera and Kanan. But, I still don't trust them, and I don't want a teacher.
But, if Emily thinks it's a good idea then maybe I could adapt.
"Does Sabine know you're a Jedi?"
Kanan shook his head, "After the Jedi were hunted, I changed my name and put away my lightsaber. I cut myself off from the force. It just wasn't safe. Nobody but Hera knows. Until now."
I narrow my eyes at them, "So, you're lying to your crew, who happens to be a mandalorian, about being a Jedi."
Kanan sadly nods, "I've tried to distance myself for so long from the Jedi. I didn't even think about it at the time. Now that I've reconnected to the force I'm going to tell them. We might have a mission to go on once we leave, but after that I'll probably tell them."
I nod and look back over to Emily, who still looks like she wants to accept. I sigh and give her a little nod.
She instantly breaks into a smile and turns to Hera and Kanan, "We would love to join you!"
Hera also smiles, "Perfect, Emily your callsign will be Specter 6 and Ezra your callsign will be Specter 7."
Emily quickly holds up a hand, "Would you guys mind if I was Specter 7? Seven is my lucky number."
Hera nods, "That's fine, I was just going by age, so Emily you will be Specter 7 and Ezra you will be Specter 6."
We both nod before I speak up, "There's some stuff we would need to grab from our tower. Would you mind us grabbing that before we go on this mission?"
Kanan gestures for us to go up the ramp, "Of course, just point us in the right direction."
I attach my helmet to my belt before climbing the ladder up into the cockpit. I put the coordinates into the nav computer and move back to the common room I saw earlier.
Inside I see the entire crew with Kanan and Hera explaining what's going on.
I probe out with the force to find Zeb unsettled and Sabine . . . furious?
I look closer and I see Kanan holding the holocron and a lightsaber. He must have told the crew earlier than expected!
As I approach closer Sabine turns to me, "What do you want, aruetii?"
I glare at her, "How am I a traitor?"
She bounds up and storms over to me, "Because you're a damn Jedi!"
I shake my head and push past her, "I honor the Resol'nare, just because I was born with the force doesn't make me a traitor. Kanan hid who he was because he was being hunted."
Sabine shakes her head and storms off to what I assume is her room.
I turn back to the rest, "I put the coordinates for our tower in, could we please be assigned rooms? I really need to get a couple hours of rest."
Hera nods and looks everybody over, "There are a couple of options dependent on if you two would prefer to share a room with each other over strangers."
I shake my head, "I do not need to share a room with my sister, but if it's possible I would very much prefer to sleep and change alone."
Emily backs me up, "There are some things Ezra won't share with anybody else. The only reason I know about them is because I'm his sister. I wouldn't mind sharing a room with either Sabine or Hera."
Hera looks at Kanan, "Sabine's room has an extra bunk. So does your and Zeb's. My room doesn't."
Kanan nods, "Emily you can stay with Sabine. Hera you can move in with me, and we can give Ezra the room without an extra bed. Zeb refuses to have a roommate."
Zeb huffs an agreement while Hera nods, "That's fine with me if it's fine with you guys."
Emily and I both nod that it would be ok, and Kanan goes to help Hera move into his room. Zeb huffs and heads off to his room, while Chopper moves to the cockpit to ensure we get to the tower.
Emily and I just stay in the common room during the journey since there's nowhere to go until Sabine unlocks her door and Hera is moved into Kanan's room.
I just lean back and get some much needed rest after the stress of today.
Two hours later, I'm being shaken awake by somebody.
Opening my eyes I look up to see Emily, "Come on sleepy head. We landed a few minutes ago, and we need to grab some stuff from the tower."
I nod and without saying a word pull my helmet on, heading outside.
Emily and I both head into the tower and she goes off to grab some of her more personal items while I look over my only possessions. The only things I really care about are the items I got for my fourteenth birthday. I push all of the items and a few things to do maintenance on the armor and weapons into a backpack. I double check I have my undersuits as well and then head out to the front door.
Emily is waiting for me when I get back, "You ready?"
She looks back to the ship, "For mom and dad."
I nod, "Ya, for family."
