Summary:
On another morning in waking her daughter, Asuka finds that Aki is already up and is clearly distressed about something.
"Bed Wetting"
It was one of those days when Aki decided to sleep in bed longer then usual. Sometimes the rascal would wake up too early in the morning and immediately decide to wake up her parents. Other days the girl would gladly stay in bed sleeping and would get really cranky if anyone disturb her beauty sleep.
Today it seemed that Aki was sleeping in and Asuka shook your head at her daughter's unpredictable sleeping habits as she was coming towards the girl's bedroom, gently knocking on the door a few times to hopefully get the three year olds attention.
"Hey Schätzchen, it's way past time to wake up now." Said Asuka.
From outside, Asuka was able to hear some movement inside Aki room. Footstep coming closer to the door but no sign of the girl opening it.
"Mama wait don't come in yet!" Aki replied in a worried and slight panicking tone, something which worried Asuka.
"Aki is everything alright?" Asuka attempted to open the door but Aki from in her bedroom was trying to keep it closed. Clearly the girl was worried about something and trying to hide it from her mother.
Aki was straining to keep the door closed but her mother was clearly a lot stronger then her and got the door open. Asuka was able to see her daughter's face and Aki was clearly worried and it seemed that the girl was recently been crying judging from the tear stains on her face.
Seeing her daughter like this Asuka didn't hesitate to hug the girl close to her. "Oh Schätzchen what's wrong?" Asuka asked worriedly while rocking the Aki.
Being in her mother's comforting arms seem to set Aki off and the small girl starting crying slightly.
"I'm sorry Mama, I'm soo sorry".
"What are you sorry for?" Asked a clearly confused Asuka.
Aki didn't answer with words for a few moments but she inevitably pointed to her bed and Asuka was now able to see why her daughter was upset. On the bed with the covers been removed, she could see a bit of a wet stain on it. Further evidence Asuka also felt her daughter's pyjama bottoms wet and grimaced at the wet sensation she felt while holding Aki. Unfortunately for her Aki saw the grimaced expression and buried her face in her mother's bosom while continuing sobbing, thinking that her mother was angry at her. Asuka realised that needed to quickly do some damage control now.
"Hey hey Schätzchen, it's ok I'm not angry with you." Replied Asuka in a comforting voice while sitting on the edge of Aki bed, continuing holding her distressed daughter.
Aki looked up at her with tear stained redden eyes while sniffing. "Re..really?"
Given her daughter a smile. "Really. Also there is nothing for you to be sad about either. Everyone at some point has wet the bed at least once."
This got Aki's attention. "So you have done it too?" Asked the three year old.
"Yep and you want to know a little secret?" Asuka asked and Aki promptly nodded. "I wet the bed plenty of time when I was your age and even a few more times before I was five. But let's not tell papa that ok." Replied Asuka, earning a giggle from Aki.
"What about Papa?" Aki asked honestly.
"Oh Papa's definitely wet the bed more times then us." Asuka replied confidently though to be honest she didn't have the foggiest clue. While she and Shinji had shared everything about their pasts together, the topic of childhood bed wetting never came up. So she was gonna have to talk to Shinji about this and hope that he plays along with this little white lie, otherwise he going to get a hell of an earful.
Sniffing slightly and rubbing her eyes with her forearm, Aki still looked ashamed, a look which Asuka knew all too well as it's was the same kind her husband Shinji used many times in the past.
Stroking Aki cheek and making sure the little girl was looking at her in the eyes. "Hey this doesn't mean that your not my big girl anymore. So you have nothing to be ashamed off or be upset for Schätzchen, remember that ok."
Aki nodded and it seemed this pep talk did the trick in making Aki feel better. Letting her daughter down on the bed, Asuka went to get Aki some fresh clothes from the draws before quickly changing her. With Aki set Asuka grabbed her hand and left the small bedroom but not before Asuka looked back at the bed and made a mental note to ask (or force) Shinji to handle the task in cleaning the sheets.
