| Chapter 4 |
13th August 1983; Wizarding Britain – Diagon Alley; Gringrotts.
Sirius was walking beside Azalea, both of whom were surrounded by ICW security guards in black regalia. He could hear various whispers all around them with slight awed faces looking at them with wide eyes.
"It's Sirius Black! I still can't belief he is innocent!"
"That must be Azalea Evans! She is the sister of the late Lady Potter!"
Many such whispers reached their ears, but none of their steps faltered. Sirius looked at Azalea from the corner of his eyes, noticing she was paying least attention to the crowd. Now that he actually observed her, he noticed that she looked immensely tired. Though she maintained her posture, there was a slight lightness on her shoulders. She seemed a bit relaxed but still aware.
"If you are done observing me, Heir Black, we are here." Azalea's voice bought Sirius out of his thoughts. He noticed they have arrived at Gringrotts.
Sirius simply gave her a weak smirk, before following her through the gates of Gringrotts. Just as they entered, a Goblin came forward, dressed in a warrior's uniform, with a sharp looking spear in his hand and bowed before both Azalea and Sirius.
"May your enemies are slain with ferocity Warrior Goblin." greeted Azalea, with a slight bow.
Sirius also echoed her words, though his bow wasn't as smooth as Azalea due to his health and after effects of being in Azkaban which has not yet been treated.
The Warrior Goblin stretched his lips into a smile, exposing sharp looking teeth, "May your gold flow and business prosper, Mistress Evans, Master Black. Account Manager Sharkhorn and Healer Walhorn are waiting for you. Please follow me."
Azalea nodded, while Sirius looked a bit confused. He had started to sway as well, his poor health catching up to him. Azalea stabilized him, with the ICW guards also closing in to help him.
"Let's get you to the healer, Heir Black." said Azalea, as all of them proceeded down the same hall to where Harry, Arianna and the two goblins awaited their arrival.
13th August; Gringrotts – Account Manager Sharkhorn's office.
Harry hasn't woken up thankfully when they entered. Sirius's eyes zeroed on the sleeping boy, bypassing everyone else. He stumbled towards him, but Azalea had a tight grip on his arm.
Sirius looked at her, leaning due to their height difference; his grey eyes darkening to the steel it have been in the court; he growled, very similar to his animagus form, "Let me go!"
Azalea raised an eyebrow, not at all intimidated at the growling Black Heir as she calmly answered, "Heir Black, please calm yourself. He is currently in a healing sleep. I rescued him from my eldest sister who was clearly abusing him. He just found out about magic, approximately five hours back. Overwhelming him when he wakes up won't help anyone."
Sirius looked at Azalea, his gaze serious and piercing as if gauging the seriousness of her words, a gaze which Azalea held, understanding his situation and feelings. Sirius nodded after a while.
Walhorn spoke up, validating Azalea's words "Indeed, Heir Black. Heir Potter will be waking up soon in ten minutes. Mistress Evans, I believe you referred to Heir Black as my second patient?"
Azalea nodded, as she let Sirius's arm go as Walhorn took over for her.
"Come sit, Heir Black. This shouldn't take more than a few minutes."
Walhorn led Sirius towards the bed that appeared beside Harry's to check his health. Arianna was sitting on the right side of Harry's bed, while Azalea sat at the head of Harry's bed, her back hitting the headboard and a tired sigh escaped her.
"Madame, you haven't rested properly after coming back. Perhaps, you should rest now." said a worried Arianna.
Azalea sighed at that, before speaking, "Not yet, Ari. Many important matters are still left."
"I agree." interrupted Sharkhorn, making both the girls realize that they had an audience. Sirius and Sharkhorn were listening to both the girls' conversation, while Sirius's eyes were straying towards Harry at regular intervals.
"Sharkhorn, what are the immediate works that needs to be completed today itself?" asked Azalea, her sapphire gaze looked tired.
"Heiress, I have called for the Potter Manager Griphook. After the Potter Will is officially read, we can proceed with the transferring the guardianship of Heir Potter over to both you as well as Heir Black. Over that, I need to speak to you about the Ladyship ring of Ravenclaw." said Sharkhorn, adding a stern glare when he saw her protesting half-heartedly.
Sirius asked shocked, "Ravenclaw?"
"Ah!" sighed Azalea, "Yea, sort off. Lily was supposed to take the Ladyship at her 21st birthday, but..."she trailed off, before clearing her throat, "Ravenclaw is a Matriarchal line, so only a female can inherit. Our Grandfather was a wizard. He found out that we were descendant from Ravenclaw, but obviously he couldn't claim it, being a male. Our father was a squib; same with Petunia, not that they knew. Lily and I were the only magical females who could inherit the Ravenclaw line."
Sirius nodded a bit thoughtful, "Lily was always brilliant, whether it was in studies or in any activities she loved doing." Azalea hummed in response, agreeing with him.
"Aah..." a slight noise coming from Harry as he fidgeted, not used to sleeping on such a soft bed, even though it was a conjured one.
Every eye from Arianna to Walhorn went to the little three years old. Sirius straightened, his eyes going towards his godson, while Azalea slowly sat upright.
"Harry? Sweetie?" called Azalea softly, making sure she did not startle her nephew.
Brilliant green eyes opened slowly before closing again. It opened after few minutes as if adjusting to the light within the room. Harry opened his eyes fully, rubbing his fist over an eye, a light sleep muddled look on his face. He looked at his own self, noticing the bed he was sitting on. His eyes immediately went towards Azalea, who was waiting for him to notice her, a small soft smile illuminating her tired face.
"Auntie Lea? You aren't a dream?" he asked, almost wincing at asking a question again.
Azalea smiled, "No sweetheart. I am as real as you are. How are you feeling now?"
"Fresh." replied Harry slowly; realizing none of the incidents he thought he had made up, were a dream. He unconsciously reached towards her, feeling safe with the women who had rescued him from the Dursleys. He only realized he was reaching up to his new aunt, when Azalea gently pulled him on her lap.
Harry looked up at her, feeling awed at the care his aunt was showing him.
"Sweetheart, there is someone who wants to meet you. Do you want to meet him?" asked Azalea, making sure she did not glance at Sirius. Harry was still completely focused on Azalea; He hadn't yet noticed there were people around him.
"O-kay..." stuttered Harry a bit, jumbling over his words.
Sirius who had been watching almost longingly as he saw how Harry, his godson, his sweet godson clutched and drank up the positive attention Azalea was giving him. He wanted to hold him too and speak to him. The last time he saw his godson was on that night...when J-ames and L-ily died.
He was still a bit unconvinced when Azalea had said that his sweet godson was abused. After all, how could someone hurt his adorable godson? But watching how gently and slowly Azalea handled Harry, making sure she made no sudden gestures which could startle Harry, how Harry asked that Azalea was 'dream', how he seem to wince after asking a question, as if he wasn't supposed to ask a question...all pointed towards some level of abuse.
He focused his attention on them when he heard Azalea speak about him. Harry hadn't noticed anyone, completely focused on Azalea. Sirius's heart beats increased as he waited for Harry to answer. His heart seems to have jumped in his throat when he answered an 'okay'.
Azalea smiled gently, trying to ease the child in her arms, who seemed to have tensed at meeting someone new. She slowly turned herself to face Sirius, who was sitting on his own bed beside Harry's own.
Sirius's eyes drank his godson's picture. He was thin, way too thin for a three year old. His hair was just like James – wild and messy. His eyes though were as bright as Lily's – emerald green. He gulped, tears coming to his eyes as he looked at the last symbol of his best friends; His last string that connected him to his best friend – James.
"Harry, meet your godfather – Sirius Orion Black. He is your father' best friend and blood brother."
Harry on the other hand felt he knew the man who was sitting in front of him. He observed him. He seemed to be wearing some kind of robes and had startling grey eyes. He looked very tired and unconsciously and almost naturally muttered, "Paddy?"
Tears spilled from Sirius eyes, as he answered in a choking voice, "Yes, Prongslet. It's me, Padfoot."
Harry reached out with his hands, feeling a connection with the man. His mind bought up a hazy picture of a black dog and a comfortable feeling. He felt safe with him, as if his subconscious recognized him.
"Paddy?" he asked again, as if reaffirming himself. Sirius nodded, too tearful to say anything as he cradled Harry to himself gently, conscious about his way too thin stature, though all he wanted to do was hug his godson tightly.
Both godfather and godson were wrapped in each other to notice anyone else. Sirius was crying as he hugged Harry to himself, completely chocked up on emotions while Harry also hesitantly hugged the familiar yet unfamiliar man.
Azalea smiled at the duo, a warm look on her face. She looked around the room to see none of the three – Sharkhorn, Healer Walhorn or even Arianna were around. She hadn't even noticed when they had exited the room, too focused on her nephew. She must be very tired if her sharpened instincts hadn't warned her of someone leaving the room. These two days has been way too tiring and exhausting for her, as well as being mentally draining. She really hoped she would get some rest soon. A break would be very nice. She slowly leaned back on the headboard, as she allowed herself to relax a bit.
"Auntie?" called Harry, slowly realizing his new aunt was very quiet.
"Yes Harry?"
Azalea looked at Harry, perched on Sirius's lap who himself was leaning on the headboard of his bed.
"I am hungry." He said almost shyly, a bit hesitantly as well. He was still not used to stating what he wanted.
Before Azalea can say anything, the doors of the chambers opened. Azalea immediately straightened and stood up, almost covering Sirius and Harry, so they weren't completely visible and vulnerable to the people entering. Her reflexes working almost subconsciously. She was acting before she could even think.
Sharkhorn and Walhorn entered, the latter bringing a tray filled with delicious food. Another Goblin entered alongside them.
"Calm yourself, Mistress Evans. It's only us." Sharkhorn gave an approving gaze.
Azalea nodded but did not move from where she was standing, her eyes on the new goblin.
Griphook looked at the female human with an intriguing gaze in his dark eyes, "Greetings Madame Evans. I am Griphook, Account Manager of the Potters."
"May your enemies are slain with ferocity, Master Griphook." answered Azalea, with a sight nod of her head.
Griphook's eyes widened, he glanced at Sharkhorn who was smirking, his sharp teeth in full view. Griphook looked back at Azalea bowing, "May your gold flow and business prosper, Heiress Evans."
Azalea barely bit back a groan at that term of address, but nodded reluctantly. She turned towards the bed where Harry was sleeping previously, waving her wand to transform it into a comfy black sofa. She sat down on it, crossing her legs.
Harry who was watching with an awed gaze looked completely amazed at the magic performed. He wiggled a bit, wanting to go to his Aunt. Sirius realizing that Harry wanted to go to Azalea slowly lowered him to the ground. Harry went towards Azalea on unsteady legs, who watched him with a soft smile. She caught him before he could stumble and hit the ground. Sleeping straight for five hours and barely eating seemed to have drained her nephew.
Azalea nuzzled his nose with her own, a soft smile on her face at her nephew's cute antics.
"You said you were hungry?" mentioned Azalea again. Harry nodded, his eyes held a certain hesitance yet hope. Azalea placed Harry beside her on the couch as she looked at Walhorn, "Healer Walhorn, I believe those are for all of us?"
Walhorn nodded, "Yes, my lady. I bought the nutrients Heir Potter requires. One potion bottle after every major meal, three times a day."
Azalea nodded as she took the box containing the potions. Walhorn then turned towards Sirius, "Heir Black, you need to have the nutrients potions as well, same as Heir Potter. But before that these potions needs to be taken. Please drink them before eating. I will ask that you continue to eat healthily and come for a check up when you visit Gringrotts again. Other than this, you are fine. Contact me through a letter if you notice anything amiss. Your weakness and malnutrition will be taken care of by proper rest and healthy eating."
Sirius made a face at the three potions handed to him, making Harry giggle. Azalea had an amused look on her face at his antics. Sirius took each bottle, flashing Harry a grin, started to drink each one of them. All of the potions were horrible in taste, making Sirius gag. Healer Walhorn gave him a glass of pumpkin juice to drink to get rid of the after taste of the potion. Sirius felt the potion's working as he seem to feel energized a bit, some tiredness vanishing.
"Heiress Evans, Heir Black, before we start our lunch, Lord Arcturus Black and one Mister Lupin wishes to join us. They have come within Gringrotts to inquire about you Heir Black, and now are awaiting a response. Would you allow them to join us?" asked Sharkhorn, his gaze on Sirius who blinked.
Sirius looked at Azalea, silently asking if it was alright. He wanted to say yes immediately, but decided that it won't be correct to decide alone given Harry was here. He can guess no one was aware that Harry was in Wizarding Britain. He knew that the guardianship of Harry will be transferred to Azalea as well as himself. So he wanted Azalea's consent as well. Anyway, she was the one who got him a trial. This was the least he can do. Azalea nodded slightly in response to his unasked question.
"I do not mind, Sharkhorn." answered Sirius slowly. He got up to sit beside Harry on the other side of the sofa. The sofa was rather comfy, making his tired body very comfortable.
Sharkhorn nodded and went outside the room, probably to escort the men inside the room.
Griphook transformed the other bed back into two comfy couches for two people. One of the couches was placed beside Sirius's side and the other beside Azalea's side. Three chairs also were conjured for the goblins, which was right in front of the main three occupants – Sirius, Harry and Azalea. A seating circle was formed with a table in the middle. Walhorn placed all the food on the table, while she vanished the trolley, before taking a seat.
"Harry dear, two more people will be joining us. Alright?" said Azalea softly.
Harry nodded hesitantly, making Sirius add, "Prongslet, they are friendly and good people. Don't be afraid, yea?"
Harry nodded a bit confidently at that, making Sirius grin at him. Azalea smiled as well, when Harry turned towards her.
Griphook joined them, exactly when Sharkhorn entered with Lord Arcturus Black and Remus Lupin.
Lord Arcturus Black cut a stunning figure even at his age. His black hair tied in a ponytail at his nape now had lines of white streaking it. His grey eyes were warm when they looked at Sirius. Remus Lupin on the other hand wore warm browns which suited him perfectly. His chocolate eyes looked guiltily at Sirius.
Sirius got up at seeing his friend and grandfather, while Azalea wrapped an arm around Harry, as she felt him tense beside her at the presence of the new people. Harry leaned in the warmth of his aunt, as both of them watched.
Sirius's grey eyes continued to shift from Arcturus's soft grey eyes to Remus's warm and guilty filled chocolate eyes.
"Sirius, I am glad you are completely innocent. I never knew you had not received a trial." said Arcturus, stating what he had known before.
"It's fine, Grandfather. I had no hope of ever leaving that place before." stated Sirius almost bitterly.
Arcturus spoke regretfully, "No, I should have investigated when I heard about it. I have failed you. I apologize, grandson."
Sirius stayed silent for a while before replying, "It's alright Grandfather. I am free now."
"Yes you are." agreed Arcturus, as he turned towards Azalea. If he was shocked to see Harry beside her he did not have any outward reaction, though Remus had gasped. "I am very grateful for what you have done Madame Evans. House Black is in your debt for returning its Heir."
Azalea gazed back at the aged Lord of House Black, with a cool gaze, "Thank you for the offer Lord Black but...it's not required. I simply fulfilled my sister's last wish before her demise and did my duty as the director of ICW Security Council."
Arcturus looked at her with a calculative gaze, which Azalea held confidently. He spoke, a slight approval in his tone, "This debt needs to be paid, Madame. You will find House Black with you whenever you require its assistance."
Azalea did not answer immediately. She hummed after a while, "We shall see. I hope you are joining us for luncheon, Lord Black."
Arcturus nodded, "I will." He stepped forward to take a seat on the couch which was beside the main sofa, at Sirius's side. Sirius on the other hand turned towards Remus who was glancing from Azalea, Harry and Sirius in a continuous order. Remus finally focused on Sirius at last, guilt clear in his eyes.
"Moony?" called Sirius hesitantly.
"I am so sorry Padfoot! I believed that you actually betrayed...James...and Lily..." said Remus, his eyes guilty and voice breaking in between.
"No! Don't apologize Moony. We were wrong too! We suspected you!" said Sirius, as he reached out for a hug. Both the best friends – the remaining two-third of the Marauders hugged tightly.
Azalea looked away from them and reached for a plate, noticing the time on the grandfather clock in the office. Arcturus raised an eyebrow, wondering if she was about to eat. Azalea paid the aged Lord Black no attention and served two simple egg sandwiches and a bit of fruit.
"Healer Walhorn, I belief too much of food will be bad for him?" asked Azalea, looking at Walhorn who spoke up, "Yes Heiress. Small amount is preferable and make sure that he eats frequently. You can continue to increase the size of the food portion slowly until it reaches the acceptable amount for a boy his age."
Azalea nodded. She handed the plate to Harry, who looked up at her. Harry had been watching his 'Paddy' who was his godfather hug another man who also seemed very familiar to him. A name was knocking on his mind but he couldn't remember.
"Sweetie, you need to eat. The only thing you ate was an apple and those potions which put you into a healing sleep. You should start eating now." Azalea said with a smile at Harry, who nodded slowly, processing what she said, "Paddy?"
"I am sure he wouldn't mind if you start eating." reassured Azalea. Harry nodded, before slowly taking a bite of his sandwich.
Arcturus asked, "Healing sleep?"
Azalea nodded as she kept an eye on her nephew, "My eldest sister hates anything to do with magic. She abused him. Thanks to Healer Walhorn, Harry is currently alright...but his malnutrition will take some time to repair."
"She is a piece of work! I never liked her when we met during the wedding." said Sirius, as he took his seat beside Harry. Remus took the available couch beside Azalea.
Arcturus looked at his grandson as he commented. He had also noticed that the goblin healer had called Madame Evans, as 'Heiress', as if she belonged from a noble house. He wondered what he was missing here.
Azalea nodded at the assessment before blinking shocked as she processed what he said, "She came at the wedding?"
Sirius nodded again, "Yes. She was late but she came with that huge husband of hers." Azalea blinked again at that, before shrugging.
Remus spoke up this time, extending a hand "I am Remus Lupin."
She shook the hand firmly, "Azalea Evans."
"Wolfie!" said Harry so suddenly that he startled everyone. Sirius chuckled, while Azalea was amused and a bit confused as well.
"Harry?"
"Wolfie, Auntie Lea!" said Harry as he looked at Remus. Remus blushed at that, a small smile tugging at his lips that Harry remembered him while Sirius was still laughing.
"Oh! Well, how about you go to Mr. Wolfie, while you have lunch? What say?" asked Azalea, a mischievous twinkle in her bright sapphire eyes. Remus turned pink at that, while Harry nodded. Sirius was smirking now, while Arcturus and the goblins looked amused. Azalea picked Harry up slowly and placed him on Remus's lap. Harry made himself comfortable on his lap, before continuing to slowly eat, completely oblivious to the look of wonder and love that Remus was showering upon him.
Azalea and Sirius shared a small smile at seeing Harry comfortable. Sirius softly said, "I think, he subconsciously remembers the people he spend time with till the age of one. He feels safe with them." Azalea hummed at that agreeing.
"I belief we should start the luncheon. We can discuss business over food." proposed Sharkhorn, making everyone nod.
After a few minutes with everyone starting to eat, Walhorn spoke, "Heiress Evans, if you remembered our previous conversation few hours back, I spoke about something that is only for your ears." Azalea looked up from her plate, swallowing her food before replying, "Yes I remember, Healer Walhorn. Is whatever you found in the medical scan dangerous for Harry?"
Healer Walhorn piercing gaze and serious nature caught everyone's attention, "Yes it is a bit dangerous for your nephew. How familiar are you with the term Hocruxes, Heiress?"
Arcturus glanced sharply at the female goblin; Sharkhorn and Griphook narrowed their eyes; Sirius blinked a bit, feeling he should know the term. His eyes widened when he realized what he was trying to remember, his eyes turning in liquid pools of steel, his lips in a firm line. Remus looked confused at the reaction given by everyone, while Harry remained oblivious to the sudden tension among the adults, too busy eating his sandwiches.
Azalea made no outward reaction, but she kept the spoon she was holding back in her bowl of soup. She leaned back against the sofa, sapphire eyes hard and cold, "I am very familiar with the term, Healer. Please proceed to the main point."
Walhorn glanced at Harry. Azalea understood what she was trying to say, as she discreetly waved her wand over her nephew, a soft muttered 'Muffliato' did the job.
"That should work. Please explain now, Healer." stated Azalea, her gaze penetrating.
Walhorn nodded, "Hocruxes as we know them are soul pieces." Remus gasped, Walhorn ignored him as she continued, " A goblin healer scans not only the outer body but also the inner soul as well as the magical core. Master Potter's outer body scan result was already told to you, Heiress." Seeing Sirius about to interrupt and Remus, confused again, Walhorn raised a hand, "Heir Black I will give you the parchment I showed Heiress Evans, shortly. May I continue to the main point please?" Sirius nodded satisfied, "The healing sleep Master Potter was in for the past five hours allowed his outer body to heal. His magical core had also stabilized during the process, though it is still not completely recovered. But the soul scan revealed that there is a soul piece within the scar of Master Potter."
Remus had paled, Sirius skin had a whitish tint, while Arcturus actually allowed his eyes to widen. Azalea said nothing, as her eyes darkened.
"How can we get that thing out?" asked Sirius, nearly faint.
"First question – Have you identified whose soul it is?" asked Azalea as well.
Sirius nearly growled at her, "Who cares whose soul it is? As long as it is out of my godson's head, I don't care."
Azalea looked up at him, "You are correct, Heir Black. I simply want to confirm the news I received before."
Walhorn replied to both of them, "Heir Black, please calm down. We have a method of transferring the soul piece. Master Potter will be fine soon. Heiress Evans, the soul piece belongs to one – Thomas Marvolo Riddle."
Azalea hummed, "I see. Voldemort – I thought so. Is the soul piece attached to my nephew's soul?"
Sirius balked at that, while Arcturus's eyes narrowed. Remus tightened his arms around Harry, who smiled up at him oblivious to everything.
Walhorn nodded negatively, "No. Astonishingly, a protection is around the soul piece that stops it from trying to even come near Master Potter's soul. It is confined to his scar. The protection is strong now, but I believe with time it may start to erode or start siphoning Master Potter's magic to keep the soul piece to the confined area."
Arcturus asked, "Madame Evans, you mentioned the Dark Lord's name with accordance to the soul piece. May I ask the reason?"
Azalea nodded and used her wand to write 'TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE.' She then waved it over and an anagram appeared from the name 'I AM LORD VOLDEMORT.'
Arcturus narrowed his eyes. Sirius nodded at that, while Remus eyes had a slight amber streak in them.
"He is no Dark Lord, Lord Black. The Light Lord, the Dark Lord and the Grey Lord are the positions held by those who are chosen by Magic herself. Neither Dumbledore nor Voldemort are a Lord. The last know Light Lord was Myrriddin Emrys or Merlin. The last known Dark Lady was Lady Morgana Le Fey. The last known Grey Lord was the father of Merlin – Lord Balinor, the Dragon Lord."
Arcturus admitted, "I am aware. Though, after hearing about so many self-proclaimed Dark and Light Lords, I admit that the tale of the legend had slipped my mind."
Azalea nodded at him, while Sirius looked at Walhorn, "How can we get Voldemort's soul out from Heir Potter's scar?"
Sirius's use of proper formal address showed that he was very serious. Everyone's eyes went towards Walhorn, "Heir Black, a small ritual needs to be held. We will make sure Heir Potter is unconscious, so that he does not experience any pain. I don't think there will be a problem, because the protection is still strong around his scar. I belief it will help us getting the soul piece out, hence Heir Potter may not feel any pain."
"Can the ritual be done after Harry has finished eating?" asked Remus, his wolf side wanting his cub to be safe.
"Yes, Mr Lupin. It can be done." answered Walhorn.
Griphook spoke up, "After that, we could go ahead with the Will of the late Lord and Lady Potter. I have already sent the letters out to the people who have been asked to attend the Will reading."
Azalea nodded, as she picked up her wand again, cancelling the charm she placed on Harry.
"While Heir Potter is getting rid of the soul piece, Heiress Evans you will take up your long overdue Ladyship." said Sharkhorn in a stern voice.
Azalea sighed at that before nodding reluctantly.
"I was not aware you belonged from a noble line, Madame." commented Arcturus.
Sharkhorn answered on behalf of Azalea as he noticed her tired sigh, "The line of Evans is the direct descendent of the Ravenclaw's, my Lord. Being a matriarchal line, it was supposed to be taken by the late Lily Potter on her 21st birthday, but due to tragedy befalling us, she couldn't. The Ladyship is now passed to the only surviving female of the Ravenclaw line – Heiress Azalea Evans or as the world knows her Madame Evans."
Arcturus hummed; his pureblood mask in place. Azalea did not even try to read him, focusing on eating and getting her energy. She noticed Harry was almost finished with his food.
"Harry, do you want seconds?" asked Azalea.
Harry looked up at his aunt before nodding a 'no'.
Azalea frowned a bit but nodded, "Okay, at least have some juice dear."
She placed a glass of orange juice in front of him. Harry took it slowly, with Remus holding him and helping him to drink it.
Arcturus said, turning to face Sirius, "Sirius, I know you don't want to return to 12 Grimmauld Place." Sirius made a distasteful face at that. Arcturus ignored his grandson's behaviour, as he continued, "You can open up the Black Castle, if you want or any other Black properties that you would prefer."
Sirius blinked at that, "Isn't that woman still alive?"
"Walburga?" Sirius nodded at that.
"Yes, your mother and father both are alive." replied Arcturus, slightly admonishing him.
Sirius rolled his eyes at the admonishing tone, while he turned towards Azalea, "What do you think?"
"What?" asked Azalea, eyebrows raised at him.
Sirius explained, "I was thinking we could shift in together along with Harry. I am sure you don't want to let Harry go and neither do I. Remus would want to visit Harry as well. The guardianship of Harry will go to both of us, so..."
Azalea sighed, "I suppose you are correct, Heir Black." Sirius interrupted her, "Sirius please, not Heir Black." Azalea nodded, "Call me Azalea then. My apartment in the Headquarters would be to secluded for Harry, as there are no children around for him to mix with them. The Ravenclaw vaults will only open after I claim the signet ring, so I suppose moving in is the best option. I simply request that you allow my team to do a security check on the residence we will be staying in."
Sirius nodded, "That's fine. Grandfather, perhaps a team of Gringrotts best Ward masters could also check and strengthen the wards of the Black Castle? It would be the best place for us to stay in. There is enough room for Harry to explore and run around as well."
Sharkhorn butted in, "There will be no need for that. The Security team of ICW included Gringrotts Ward Masters, Heir Black."
Sirius's raised his eyebrows, before nodding. He looked at Harry with a serious gaze, "Pup?"
Harry met his grey eyes with his own emerald orbs, his gaze soft yet awed, "Yes Paddy?"
"Are you alright with staying with me and your Aunt Lea, under one roof?" He chanced a glance at Azalea who smiled a bit.
Harry nodded, a yawn escaping him. Sirius smiled, "Okay then. You look sleepy pup, so before you doze off, drink up the nutrient potion." He handed Harry the potion and took his own as well.
Harry took the potion and drank it, grimacing at the taste, "It is bad."
Azalea chuckled, "Yes, some potions taste very bad."Harry extended his arms towards her, making Azalea smile as she picked him up from Remus's lap and placed him on her own lap. He wrapped his tiny arms around her waist, curling into her warmth, another yawn escaping him.
Azalea spoke gently, patting his back, "Go to sleep love."
Harry asked sleepily, "Auntie, Paddy and Wolfie, be there?"
"Of course, pup. All of us will be here when you wake up." murmured Sirius from beside Azalea, as she nodded. Remus also smiled at him nodding.
"Okay." replied Harry, before snuggling again and falling asleep.
Azalea looked at Walhorn as she commented, "He is still tired."
Walhorn nodded, "That will happen, my lady. He is a three year old boy. His magic had been working continuously trying to fight the malnutrition as well as trying to heal the bruises. He will sleep a lot for the first few days. Once his body adjusts, he will be more active."
Sirius nodded, glancing at Harry, "Alright. Can you do the ritual now?"
"Yes. Bring Heir Potter to the side chamber after ten minutes. I will have everything ready by then." instructed Walhorn, as she folded her napkin and got up to leave.
Sirius nodded at that, as they watched Walhorn leave.
"Wait!" called Azalea, suddenly realizing something.
Walhorn turned around, while everyone looked at Azalea.
"Yes, my lady?"
"Don't destroy the soul piece after transferring it from Harry's scar, Healer Walhorn."
"What?" said a shocked Walhorn, while everyone looked at Azalea as if she was mad.
Azalea explained seeing everyone's incredulous expressions, "I had news that Voldemort may have created Hocruxes. This is proof. Secondly, this Hocrux could be used to find any other if he made more than one."
Sirius repeated almost dazed "More than one? Is he mad?"
Azalea questioned back, an eyebrow raised, "What do you think?"
"Yes, he is mad." He answered almost reluctantly.
Walhorn nodded, "Very well my lady. We won't destroy it. It will be given to you to deal with at you discretion."
"Thank you Walhorn." nodded Azalea with a smile.
Azalea breathed a bit as Walhorn left. She looked down at the sleeping form of her nephew with a small and gentle smile on her ruby lips.
"Sirius, I want you to take over as Lord Black the moment you are cleared." stated Arcturus turning to look at Sirius.
Sirius nearly yelled, "What?"
"Yes," replied Arcturus calmly as if he was expecting such behaviour from his grandson, "Sirius, listen to me." Arcturus gave Sirius a stern look at his continuous protest, "You have always been good with politics and sweet talk. I have known that you would bring change to the House of Black as well bring the House to its zenith. You have a godson to care for now and to protect him you will need the power and safety of the House of Black. I have grown old and wish to spend the last of my days in peace without any political hassle. Do not deny me my wish, grandson."
Sirius stayed silent at the words spoken. He looked at the man beside him. His grandfather had been a breath of fresh air in that dark and dreary house of his parents. As a child he had wanted to become like his grandfather – powerful and formidable. As a teenager he respected his Grandfather yet held a grudge towards him for not rescuing him from that hellhole. Now that he ponders over his Grandfather, he realized that the old man never let him know what his views on muggleborns or half-bloods were.
"You do know right, that Harry is a half-blood?" asked Sirius, a defiant look in his eyes daring him to say a negative word about his godson.
Azalea and Remus simply watched, while Griphook seemed to be filling something completely ignoring them and Sharkhorn looked entertained by the scene.
"I am aware." Arcturus did not say more to this. He smirked at Sirius's frustrated look. "Sirius, what is your question?"
Sirius scoffed, "As if you don't know!"
"I would like to hear from you nonetheless."
"What is your opinion about muggleborns?"
Arcturus smirked, "I have nothing against them personally. But I also dislike how they try to change the world they are entering to tailor it to their needs. I treasure our traditions and culture and would prefer if it does not change."
Sirius said, "I could use the power of House Black recklessly. Or do something like...support Dumbledore."
Arcturus's smirk widen at the various ideas of his grandson to discourage him to pass the title to him, "I don't think you will use the power recklessly. I belief you have learned your lesson." He glanced at the sleeping Harry, making Sirius sulk but nod as well, "Secondly, I know you weren't loyal to Dumbledore."
"I was...am loyal!"
Arcturus stared at that, slightly amused, "No you aren't. You were loyal to James and Lily. You are loyal to Remus and Harry currently. You are a Black, Sirius. Our loyalty isn't so easily earned."
Sirius sulked more at that making Remus chuckle at his face. Sirius glared at his friend, "Shut up Moony!"
Remus nodded, still chuckling, "Sorry, but you looked like a child who got denied his favourite candy."
Azalea smiled at that, pressing her lips to stop her giggles as well. Sirius really did look like a child then.
Sirius sighed annoyed but said, "Fine, I will take the Lordship up." Arcturus gave him a small smile, "Thank you grandson." Sirius gave a resigned nod back. There was another reason he wanted the Lordship to be taken by Sirius. He did not want the Black Title to go to that pompous Malfoy Lord that Narcissa married or their son.
Just then a Goblin entered saying, "Healer Walhorn is calling for Heir Potter. She also instructed that only one adult may accompany him."
Azalea and Sirius looked at each other, before Azalea looked at Remus, "Mr Lupin if you do not mind will you watch over Harry during the ritual?"
Remus blinked, "Me?"
Azalea nodded, "Actually I dare admit I am drained for today." Turning to Sirius, "And Sirius got free today and just took his potions an hour back." Sirius nodded at that, Azalea continued after turning towards Remus, "Neither of us is in a peak condition to be of any help immediately. So, if you would like to...?"
Remus nodded, "Harry is my nephew too. Please call me Remus by the way and I would love too."
"Call me Azalea then and thank you Remus." Azalea slowly removed Harry from herself and handed him to Remus, who cradled him.
Sirius said, for once not using his most favourite and the infamous pun "Inform us if anything goes wrong or about any matter that is serious, Moony."
"Heir Black, we the Goblin Nation take care to treasure our children. You need not worry. Heir Potter will be safe and will be back in half an hour at most." assured Sharkhorn, making Sirius nod.
The messenger goblin gestured Remus to follow him and they left through the door.
Azalea leaned back against the sofa exhausted.
Sharkhorn said, "Heiress, it's time."
"Okay. Any other important works that needs to completed today itself?" asked Azalea again, as Sharkhorn bought out a jeweled box, containing the Ravenclaw signet ring.
"Other than starting the auditing of the vaults which will be opened, no, there is no more work at least on my side. I will inform you if anything comes up." He opened the box, saying, " The ring will go on your right ring finger. The family magic will do the rest."
Sharkhorn handed her the ring. It was pretty little thing, delicate yet beautiful. An eagle was at the head, with it's wings acting as the main body of the ring. A sapphire was placed in the middle where the eagle's tail would have been. A work of masterpiece with the ring made entirely of silver.
She took a deep breath, glanced at everyone, before sliding the ring on her right ring finger. Nothing happened for a while, before the ring fitted itself as the eagle on the ring gave a small cry.
"Congratulation on your Ladyship, Lady Ravenclaw." said a smirking Sharkhorn.
Azalea titled her head, "Thank you, Sharkhorn."
Sirius gave her a small smile while Arcturus gave a small nod of his head in congratulation.
A goblin knocked on the door, as he came in, "Greetings. Commander Rickson, Captain Adrian and Arianna wishes to speak with you, my lady."
Azalea gestured, "Please escort them in."
"Is it about the trial?" said Sirius, suddenly remembering.
"Possible." answered Azalea, as she got up.
Arcturus had said nothing on the trial, thinking it would be better if Sirius learned from the Daily Prophet. All of them watched as she stood up to wait for them to arrive with hands behind her back, posture straightened.
Rickson, Adrian and Arianna came in. Rickson in front with Adrian and Arianna flanking him at both sides, all of them stopped eight steps in front of her.
Rickson bowed, "Merry meet Director."
"Merry meet Commander. What news?"
Rickson straightened, "Director, Peter Pettigrew have been convicted for murder. The punishment is still pending, though I would suggest an instant death." Azalea interrupted, "A fitting punishment." Rickson nodded as he continued, "Minister Bagnold is under fire. I belief she will be forced to resign soon. Heir Black will receive his remuneration within two days and any treatment will also be financed by the Ministry. Crouch Sr. will be placed for lifelong imprisonment cell once the improved prison is up and running. Crouch Jr. is also on the way to an instant death."
Azalea nodded thoughtfully, "Where are Pettigrew, Crouch Jr. and Crouch Sr.?"
"All three have already been transferred to Nurmengard, awaiting their punishment." informed Rickson.
"What about the high-profile prisoners who had been charged of murder and killing?"
"All transferred properly with magical cuffs placed on every single one of them. The highly volatile cases had their magical core bound. Azkaban has been emptied. The dementors have also been confined to the basement of Azkaban."
Azalea hummed, "Grindelwald?"
"Neutralized."
Azalea smirked, "Well done Director. I need you to do something for me. Inform all the members of ICW that Dumbledore has been removed from his position of both the British representative and Supreme Mugwump. So in the next meeting a new person needs to be chosen. Remember to send the proof and the reason behind this veto."
Rickson answered dutifully, "It will be done mam."
Azalea called, "Adrian?"
Adrian bowed, "Director, all orders have been followed. ICW teams are searching every single home of the suspects as well as prisoners to gather all proofs and check-ups for the upcoming trials."
Azalea asked, "Death Eaters homes?"
"Operative Raven has been leading them as per your orders."
Azalea hummed, "Well done. Rickson after the work I gave you is done you are allowed to take at least three days break. If you wish to take up the offer, please send a notice to the office. The reports could wait a few days. Adrian, you are allowed to take a day off as well. Enjoy both of you, merry part."
"Merry part, Director." Both of them left, with Arianna remaining behind.
Azalea raised an eyebrow, "Arianna?"
"Uhh...I went shopping. I hope you don't mind." said Arianna smiling sheepishly. Azalea blinked, "For yourself?" Arianna nodded negatively, "No. I went to buy some clothes for Mr Potter. I thought you may not get the time to buy anything for him, so..."
Azalea's eyes widened as she exchanged a glance with Sirius who also looked startled, "Thank you Ari. I had absolutely forgotten about clothes and other necessities."
Arianna blushed, "It isn't much mam, just a few basic things. You will have to go shopping again."
"It is still appreciated."
Arianna nodded as she handed the bags over, which Azalea kept on the sofa.
"You have anything else to say, Ari?"
Arianna informed, "Yes Mam. I checked up on the case. The officer said that the elder Dursleys are in the lock-up awaiting trial. The child has been entered into the child care."
Azalea nodded, "Alright. You can take the rest of the day off. Report in tomorrow, yes?"
"Yes mam." Arianna left after that.
Azalea sat down, again when Sirius spoke, "You did not mention about the ICW team?"
Azalea nodded negatively, "They don't have the clearance to contact the ICW teams. Thanks for reminding me, I absolutely forgot all about it."
"Clearance?" asked Sirius, a confused look in his eyes.
"Yes. The ICW team that I will be sending are one of the best. Only I am the one who is aware of the kind of job they do. It's like the job of an Unspeakable. Pure secrecy is required."
"Ah!" Sirius nodded understanding. Azalea contacted the team through her runic watch. She said looking at Sharkhorn, "The team will be arriving at Gringrotts in ten minutes."
Sharkhorn nodded, "I shall inform the people necessary. Lord Black perhaps you would like to come with me, as it is a Black property that is being checked over."
Arcturus nodded slightly, as he got up as well.
"Sirius, Lady Ravenclaw, I shall see you both at the Black Castle. Sirius, make sure to call Tillie when everything has been completed. She will take everyone to the Castle." said Arcturus in a soft voice, before moving out with Sharkhorn.
Sirius nodded at him, as they both left.
Azalea was looking through the bag which Arianna had left sighing a bit, sounding tired.
Sirius asked, "Is everything alright?"
"Yes and no. What Arianna bought are truly necessities. Harry needs new clothes and various other things that a boy his age should have, I suppose."
"Where is the problem in that? We will go shopping! I need a new wardrobe as well." stated Sirius completely relaxed.
Azalea looked at him annoyed, "That's the problem I hate shopping."
Sirius quipped back, "This is the first time I am hearing that a girl doesn't like shopping."
Azalea glared slightly, "You must have been surrounded by shopping crazy girls before."
"Hmm...won't deny that." hummed Sirius, a slight crooked smirk on his lips.
Azalea slumped against the sofa, "I don't think we can go anytime soon. Harry is overwhelmed I can see that and I need to go to office tomorrow to wrap up some confidential matters."
Sirius straightened, this time actually serious, "Will you be able to take a break?"
"Why?" Azalea raised an eyebrow in question. Sirius answered, "I think Harry needs our attention right now. If you are busy he will think his aunt doesn't care."
Azalea frowned, "Yes I can take a break. I will try to wrap everything up by tomorrow." She sighed a bit, "Say, can we go shopping in the coming weekend, two days from now?"
Sirius nodded, "That would be much better actually. I don't think I would be able to do anything yet. Though I think my magical core is stabilizing, I am still feeling weak."
"That is natural. Dementors suck not only the soul but also a part of our magic. How did you manage to stay sane?"
"Animagus form. I spend most of my time in my animagus form, which helped me, I suppose."
Azalea nodded, "Dementors affect humans, not animals. They are able to bypass it. Interesting, I never knew that. But again I have never worked with Dementors."
Sirius gave a weak smile at that.
Remus entered then with a still sleeping Harry followed by Healer Walhorn.
"How did it go?" asked Sirius, straightening up. His grey eyes looked at Remus chocolate orbs with a worried look on his face. Beside him, Azalea also looked at the sandy haired man.
Remus smiled reassuringly at both, "It went well. Harry didn't even wake up. He slept throughout the procedure."
Azalea smiled in relief, whispering, "Thank goodness." She turned towards Walhorn raising an eyebrow. Healer Walhorn gave her what she asked for – the Hocrux. It was kept in an old iron box.
"The iron box manages to cancel out the Hocrux's negative energy, my lady. We have transferred it to a cheap locket, which was placed in this box. When you open this, do it cautiously."
Azalea nodded, "Thank you Healer."
Griphook who have been silent till now spoke up, "I belief the people who are required for the Will reading will be arriving soon. Please wake up Heir Potter."
Remus looked down at Harry who was still sleeping, while Azalea and Sirius exchanged a glance. Azalea raised her arms towards Remus gesturing him to pass Harry to her. Remus gently did as asked; Harry didn't even stir at the exchange. His subconscious recognized he was safe.
Azalea watched as Harry curled into her seeking the body warmth. She smiled, her sapphire eyes soft and voice gentle as she called, "Harry? Sweetie, wake up please."
Harry slightly stirred at her voice but was still asleep. Azalea called again, this time shaking him slightly, "Harry? Wake up dear."
Harry gently opened his eyes before shutting them again. His brilliant emerald eyes opened again, as he softly muttered "Auntie Lea?"
"Yes dear, it's me. It's time to get up now." Harry opened his eyes properly, slowly willing the sleepy drowsiness away. He noticed Sirius and Remus watching him with a small smile. He smiled back, a shaky and a hesitant smile.
"Please settle yourself because the required people are on their way to this office." announced Griphook. Azalea slowly combed Harry's hair with her fingers. He was still wearing clothes twice his size, but she couldn't change him. She was sure he would be embarrassed. It has been an overwhelming day for him and it wasn't even over yet.
Walhorn bought in some more food, mostly snacks and fruits "Heir Black and Heir Potter, you need nourishment. Please help yourself to the food."
Sirius nodded and was about to reach for a plate, when Remus slapped his hand away. Remus said, "Let me."
Sirius nodded at that while Remus filled the plate with cakes and biscuits. He handed it to Sirius who nodded in thanks. Remus gave another smaller plate to Harry as well, who shyly took it. He was about to give one to Azalea as well, when she denied, "Thank you Remus, but I just want tea. I don't think I can eat anything right now." She hinted towards the Will reading. Remus nodded understanding, since he was also feeling the same. He prepared a tea cup for himself, while he looked at Azalea who said, "Two sugars and milk please."
Remus handed her the tea prepared, as she mumbled, "Thank you." Remus nodded, his eyes held a faraway look.
Harry was munching on his biscuits slowly, while Sirius had already finished half his plate. Remus was quietly sipping his tea while Azalea kept her tea in front of her, not touching it yet, a slight shudder passing through her. Harry looked up at her, "Auntie?"
Azalea hummed, as she bought him into a hug, her cheek pressing down on his hair.
"Are you okay?" Harry continued, as his aunt said nothing in response simply tightening her arms around him in a hug. He looked at Sirius to see him subdued and quietly eating finishing his plate. Remus also had a faraway look in his eyes. He blinked at the adults who all seem to be very quiet.
Sirius gave a sad smile to his godson, as he quietly urged, "Eat pup, you need the strength." Harry nodded picking up a cookie, but he felt that the atmosphere was suddenly sombre.
Azalea took a huge gulp of her tea, before placing it back. The door opened, and walked in two people.
One was a rather tall and severe looking woman. She wore an emerald coloured robes with black hair in a tight bun on her head which was covered by a pointed hat, which she removed once she was inside the room. Her gaze passed over Griphook to look at Azalea, Harry, Sirius and Remus. She primarily seemed to stare at Sirius, alternatively glancing at Azalea and Harry.
Sirius spoke out, not being able to stop himself, his voice hesitant, "Minnie?"
Minerva McGonagall spoke, her lips pressed in a thin line yet her eyes sparkled with an immense joy, "How many times must I tell you not to call me that Mr Black? Be grateful that I cannot give you detention anymore."
Sirius barked out a laugh as he got up to hug the older woman, his heart filled with relief for the woman who had been a constant presence from his Hogwarts days. Remus smiled at the duo, happiness shining at seeing them reconcile.
Harry watched the two older women enter. He did not know them though woman wearing the green dress felt familiar to him. He watched how she spoke with his Paddy and how both of them hugged. He also noticed how she was glancing at him and his auntie. He stared back, feeling safe in his aunt's arms.
Azalea watched the reunion with expressionless eyes. She did not know her and hence could not understand the reason behind this older woman's presence in the Will reading. She was sure she was about to found out anyway. She had also registered the other woman who had entered and she recognized her.
Wearing a hat with a stuffed vulture on it and carrying a red hand bag, Augusta Longbottom nodded at the Director of ICW, when she noticed her. She also noticed the three year old child on said director's lap, but said nothing.
Remus greeted, as he stood up to press a kiss on the back of her hand, "Merry meet Dowager Longbottom." Though Remus was not someone who was a fan off all these little rules of high society, he knew them well; the perks of being friends with two Heirs of the Ancient Houses.
Augusta nodded, "Merry meet, Mr Lupin. It is good to see you are well."
Remus simply smiled at the response not answering back. Augusta looked at Azalea again this time speaking, "Merry meet Director."
Azalea answered softly but firmly, "Merry meet Dowager Longbottom."
Sirius came over to Augusta, pressing a kiss on the back of her hand as well, "Merry meet Dowager Longbottom."
Augusta said, "Merry meet Heir Black. I apologize for the injustice that was done to you."
Sirius nodded, "All's well that ends well, Dowager Longbottom."
Augusta looked at him with a sharp eye, "Well said, Heir Black."
Griphook interrupted the conversations, his voice frank, "Please take your seats, the Will reading is about to start. We don't have much time to waste."
Everyone nodded and sat down. Walhorn and the food cart as well had disappeared, including what they have been snacking on. None of them cared about it anyway. Harry could also sense the seriousness of the situation.
Griphook sat down facing the five adults and a child, who all sat on the only sofa of the room. Augusta sat on the extreme left side of the sofa with Minerva beside her, beside whom sat Sirius; Azalea was beside him with Harry on her lap and Remus beside her on the further right.
Griphook said, "We shall start the Will Reading of the Late Lord James Charles Aries and Late Lady Lily Elizabeth, belonging from the Noble and the Most Ancient House of Potter. Please do not speak once the Will is being read."
Harry looked startled as he remembered the names of his parents. He looked at his aunt who was looking down at him with a small sad quirk to her painted red lips. He whispered softly, "Auntie?"
"Yes?"
"What is going on?" he asked softly.
Azalea said, chancing a glance at Sirius who was looking back at them, his grey eyes showcased his nerves and anxiousness, "Your parents left a few things for all of us here. We will be learning what they left for us before dying."
Harry blinked, but nodded. He cuddled into Azalea again, his heart suddenly beating faster.
Griphook returned with the Will by then, "Let us proceed."
As no one said anything, Griphook started the Will reading.
