Chapter 4

Adam and Rebecca were all ready for their camping trip. Adam was just finishing up some last minute details and then they would be going.

"Oh Adam, this was so wonderful. I could do this with you all day, all night. Oh I love you."

"I love you Rebecca. And so could I, spend all my days and nights this way with you. But, we have to get up now and get dressed and get going on our little venture."

"Oh yes, if we must."

"Sweetheart, remember we will be stopping tonight along the trail and we can make love all you want then."

"Oh what a lovely thought."

"Goodbye son, Rebecca. Be careful out there."

"We will Pa. See you the end of the week."

Adam and Rebecca were off on their trip with pack horse in tow. It would be a long journey for them but they were also together and they were very happy and ready for new adventures together. By noon it was getting very warm out, and they stopped to eat lunch by a stream.

"This looks like a good place to stop. What do you think sweetheart?"

"Yes Adam, it's so peaceful here. Can we go wading in the water?"

"Of course we can. Let's give our horses some water first alright."

"Alright, come buttercup, come over for a drink."

"You have her trained good already."

"She was so easy to train Adam."

"OK Sport, go join buttercup."

Adam found all the food for their lunch and put the blanket down by the stream.

"Sweetheart, just leave them, they won't go any where, come and have some lunch and then we can enjoy the water."

"Alright Adam. Oh this is so nice."

"Here you go."

"Thank you. Hop Sing sure knows how to pack food doesn't he?"

"He has had a lot of practice."

"Yes, I suppose he has."

"Here, come sit in front of me and lean on my chest."

"Adam, do you think that's wise?"

"Ha, ha, just come over here OK."

"OK, you asked for it."

"There that's better."

"Mm hm, it sure is. Oh Adam."

"Yes sweetheart?'

"Oh, you know what it is. And I love it."

"Maybe we should go wade in that cool water, to cool you down."

"Yes, maybe we should. Come on then."

Adam was smiling when Rebecca got up and ran to the water and took off her boots and went in the water. Then he went to the water and took off his boots and socks and rolled up his pants and went in.

"Adam, don't roll then up, just take them off."

"Why Rebecca Cartwright, did that come from you?"

"Yes it did Adam Cartwright."

"I guess I am teaching you to well."

"No, not enough." and she started splashing Adam with all she had that got him in his face, and all over the front of him, while he was going up to her and then picked her up and held her close to him which got her completely wet and then he put her down and splashed her with both hands which got her totally socked in front. "Adam! Oh you brat."

"Ha, ha, you asked for it sweetheart."

"Oh my goodness. Well I'm cooled off."

"Are you going to behave yourself now?"

"Yes, I promise."

"Good. We must start out again."

As the sun was getting much hotter now Adam and Rebecca's clothes dried quickly as they travelled on their destination to try to find the missing cattle. It was getting to be near sundown and Adam was looking for a place to set up camp for the night or maybe two nights. Hopefully the weather would hold and the late fall snows would come later this year. Adam wanted to make this trip enjoyable for Rebecca and show her the country side.

"Rebecca sweetheart, we are going to have to start finding a camp site soon here before it gets to dark."

"Oh good Adam. I am kind of tired."

"Rebecca darling, you have been a real good traveller on this trip. I'm real proud of you."

"Well thank you Adam. I am really enjoying this trip."

"I can tell that you are. OK, over there looks like a good place to set up camp. What do you think?"

"Yes Adam, it looks very nice."

"OK then, let's try it."

Adam and Rebecca set up their little camp, Adam put up the tent while Rebecca got out the blankets and pillows, cooking pans, and food, and Adam started a fire so she could get some coffee going and then start supper. Adam continued to finish setting up the camp site up by putting a couple of tarps around the tent for more protection from the climate.

"Adam, this looks so nice and cozy."

"Nice and cozy? So that's what you call it. Look inside the tent."

"Oh alright." When she went inside she had seen where Adam had made up their bed with plenty of blankets and their pillows and her satchel on her side of the bed and his on his side. "Adam, it's so wonderful. You would make someone a good wife someday."

"Oh really? Well now then, just what would that make you my darling? Maybe a good husband?"

"Oh Adam Cartwright. You're a brat."

"Ha, ha, oh am I now? How is that coffee coming along?'

"I think it's ready. I'll start supper now."

"That's my good wife." Adam said with a smile on his face

"You're really enjoying this aren't you?"

"Yes I am."

"Oh Adam."

After they finished their supper they each cleaned up the dishes and then sat by the fire for awhile in each others arms talking and looking at the stars.

"Adam, it's so beautiful out here. The stars seem to tell a story."

"Yes they do. When I was a boy heading out west with my father I would sleep out under the stars at night and study them. I had a star for my mother and I would always talk to her before I went to sleep. It helped me sleep when I did that."

"How nice Adam. You have those memories to cling to."

"Yes I do. Well my beautiful wife, are you ready to go to bed?"

"Yes I am Adam. How cold do you think it will get tonight?"

"I don't know. But I would think pretty chilly. We're in the high sierras now."

"Oh alright, well, I guess I should put on something warm then."

"Sweetheart, do you really plan on sleeping all night?"

"What did you have in mind then Mr. Cartwright?"

"Oh ho, you really have to ask my dear?"

"No, I guess not. Not with that look in your eyes. So let's go."

Inside their cozy tent, Adam and Rebecca didn't waste any time undressing and getting under the covers as it was pretty chilly, and they wasted no time getting into each others arms and making love quite a few times that night. Rebecca just couldn't get enough of Adam, every time he touched her she would melt.

They stayed in the camp for two days and pulled up and headed out to find the cattle where they were reported being seen.

"OK, It's right around here where they are suppose to be. Stay close beside me in case they decide to run."

"OK Adam."

"There they are. Rebecca, stay here please, I have to go and get them all together and try to corral them some where."

Adam rode off to try to round up the fifteen plus head of cattle and take them to a box canyon not far from where they were. They had to camp tonight and then get an early start in the morning and head them back to the Ponderosa. Rebecca stayed where Adam told her to and watched him at work. Within an hour and a half Adam had them corralled in the boxed canyon and he rode back to where Rebecca was.

"OK sweetheart, we just have to go a ways down there where I put the cattle and make camp tonight."

"You got them all Adam?"

"Yes, all sixteen head."

"Oh wonderful."

Once again camp was set up and supper prepared while Adam finished setting up the tent.

"Smells good sweetheart."

"Thank you Adam."

"So, have you enjoyed our little camping trip?"

"Yes, very much. It's been wonderful Adam."

"Yes it has. We head back in the morning."

"So soon?"

"We've been gone four days now sweetheart."

"Doesn't seem like it."

Rebecca! Hey, Rebecca sweetheart."

"Hmm."

"Time to get up darling. Come on."

"Oh why? I'm comfortable here in your arms."

"Yes I know that sweetheart. But we have to get going."

"Oh OK. Don't we have time to make love before we get up?"

"Ha, ha, oh my Rebecca. Well now, how can I say no to that. Of course we can."

"Oh good. I'm awake now. Kiss me Adam."

Adam kissed her and kept going to all of the other wonderful things that they did when they made love. After an hour of intense love they were up and had breakfast and packed up and Adam rounded up the cattle and they headed out. This wasn't going to be an easy trip back however, there would be some trouble up ahead for Adam and Rebecca and none of it good.
