Chapter Three
"I wouldn't be surprised if Gaston shows up." The Beast said to Matt.
"No, sir; I wouldn't be either. He knows where you are and if Belle is concerned: he's going to pause at nothing to make sure she's his."
"I know." The Beast answered. He sighed when he remembered how he and Gaston used to hunt together. How skilled he was and their friendship was once like. The Beast looked over at his servant as he asked.
"How has Belle adjusted since Mrs. Potts showed her the room?"
"Fine to me, sir; but Belle's not showing any signs of returning. We all know Gaston's going to be at the castle door before this afternoon."
"Yes. I know that." The Beast replied and he folded his arms. He looked over to the side and saw the vase which held the rose was no longer there. He made his way over and placing his hand on the glass, he waited for a moment before he asked.
'Matt? Do you remember what Belle once did for Gaston years ago?"
"She declined his offer before she accepted him, sir. We all know that he wanted her for her beauty but she was smart and said no."
"Yes. But she said yes and I know him well enough to know he's betrayed her."
"Yes. Word travels around the tavern, does it not?"
"Yes. When shall we chat with her?"
"After Mrs. Potts helps her with her maternity clothing, sir."
The Beast drew his shoulders back as he answered.
"Then prepare yourself, Matt. Gaston will be here and I for one don't want to get in the way of the two."
"Though Belle deserves better." He thought but the Beast shooed Matt out so he could wait to ask Mrs. Potts if Belle was ready. The Beast walked over to the balcony but only pulled the curtains aside. He nodded when he saw Gaston's figure galloping towards the gates as he thought.
"Right on cue; here comes Gaston. But he doesn't have any weapons."
The Beast let the curtain return as he took a step away from the window. He counted to three when he heard Gaston's voice shout.
"Open up, Beast! I've come for Belle and I'm not leaving until she's mine!"
