Now, Enjoy!

It has passed two weeks now since I got into Loveland city. The day started like usual. Victor has woken early and gone to a walk like he usually did. I woke up two hours after and started to prepare breakfast for both of us. And usually, I have all done just when he arrives back.

Today I had made an English breakfast; eggs, bacon, and toast, with mini salad aside. He sat down to eat, while I brought coffee to the table and orange juice to me.

"Have you checked my schedule again?" he asked me.

"What makes you think that?" I asked.

"Last time you made English breakfast was when I was with three meetings during the day."

"Okay. I did peek back then, but for a reason. Those meetings were booked too close to each other in my opinion."

"You know, when I suggested you stay here, I didn't mean you to become my secretary and cook," Victor said to me.

"Then why did you?" I asked. This has bugged me for a week. From what I heard from his employees it's not like him to help someone like me. He, the CEO of Loveland financial group, or in short, LFG. As much I'm glad he took me in, I don't want to get into trouble, again.

He looked at me with a cold serious stare. I have seen him show it at his company. I guess he has it to show he is a serious businessman. I'm pretty sure he knew what I meant by asking that question when he went straight to the point.

"I have an important task for you," he said as he finished his breakfast.

"What kind?" I asked.

"I'll explain later," he said as he picked his plates. "Finish your meal. We leave in ten minutes."

That was a usual answer from him.

We were in the car, while Victor gave me a file.

"Is this my mission?" I asked as I opened it.

"Have you ever heard about Black Swan?"

That's the second time I heard that. This Black Swan must be a very serious case.

"Only once, when I got here," I answered, which was true. "I wasn't told anything more. But I take it's a criminal organization since it was a cop who asked me the same question."

"Not just any organization," Victor answered. "They are after Evolvers."

"What for?"

"That's your mission to find out." he just said.

"Then how do you know they are after Evolvers?" I asked.

"It's all in the file," he said. I looked at a lot of papers until by curiosity I asked.

"Why not give this to the police?" I asked.

"They have people in places. So, I can't trust anyone," he answered.

"Is it also, because this world doesn't know about Evolvers?"

Victor looked confused about my word selection. I realized just when he answered. "So far it's only a rumor. But it's best not to mention it."

I figured this is one of those worlds. Usually, that means people are not ready to discover that there are humans with superpowers. I think they never will, considering how they mostly are. This started to remind me of my father's travels.

"Why did you ask me to do this?" I asked to be sure.

"Just because my evol controls time, doesn't mean I use it all the time," Victor told me. Makes sense. "Since you don't have identifications, no one can't locate you."

"There are more reasons, right." I figured

"We will soon find out," he said before stopping the car.

That's when I recognized the area. This is the area where I got teleported. I looked at him to wait for an answer. He could already tell I wanted an answer.

"I hired a private detective five days after I found you. According to security cameras, there was lots of smoke in this area, so they couldn't say much."

"Yeah, that was because it started raining and the fire I collected," I admitted.

"Can you recognize the place?" he asked me.

I wasn't sure at first, but I did find the alley. As soon I stepped in there, I picked the lighter from my jacket. No, it wasn't for smoking. I know how unhealthy that is. I use it only to awaken my powers. Because my senses were much sharper with it.

I lit up the lighter and touched the small flame, in which my hair turned red and my left eye changed. I then closed my eyes to take in every noise, smell, and heat. Luckily nothing has passed here in the past two weeks, that I managed to get every detail from that day.

I just appeared there. But there was someone. No, four in total. One with a knife tries to attack, but fire gets loose from me and gets burned. The other three try to attack, but then it starts to rain. They got confused. One hits another by accident. I ran away. That's all.

"Found anything?" Victor asked me.

"Your speculation was correct. I was attacked, so it means it was Black Swan." I admit. "But they expected me to be weak."

"That's because some Evols come later in life. While some try to hide it." Victor explains.

"Well, I'm not an Evolver," I confirmed.

Victor smirked at that. Even though I haven't told much of my past, he has already accepted me as I am. All I did was told him that I was kidnapped and escaped before getting here.

"So, you think I have a chance against them?" I asked.

"You said yourself. You have an "inherited curse". And you have shown that you can protect yourself." Victor reminded me.

"My dad taught us, just in case," I told. "But since I was kidnapped, I had nothing."

"Well, This is your chance to earn it," Victor told me. "All I'm asking is to look for answers. But try to keep a low profile."

"With my changing hair color, Yes, sir," I said as a joke, but he didn't laugh.

Right then, I picked up a smell. It's one of those guys. I followed it to the street and up ahead there were traffic lights with many people waiting for the light to change.

"What is it?" Victor asked.

"There's one of them over there..."

Right then something happened. A young woman was pushed right when the car was gonna pass.

"I handle the pusher. You handle her." I told him before I ran right there. I didn't hear any complaints from him, so I assume that he agreed with my suggestion.

Whoever it was, was trying to run away so he won't be noticed, but luckily, I did. With quick speed, which came along with my inherited powers, I managed to grab him and pull him into an alley, so no one won't see us. Of course, he tried to fight back, but I managed to pin him down against the wall.

"What you did?" I asked. He didn't answer. "I know you pushed that woman in front of the car. And I know you and your buddies attacked me two weeks ago"

Now he looked surprised and looked at me, recognizing me.

"You!" The man said.

He tried to hit me, but I'm not easily defeated. My powers include strength and endurance. I took hold of his shirt's collar and lifted him.

"Little advice, never underestimate who you're against," I told him. "I want answers. I know you work for Black Swan. What are you after?"

I never get the answer for somewhere someone knocked me. I hadn't lost my consciousness, but before they even thought to take me, someone shot a warning shot. In this, I heard them running, by what I could tell there were only two of them.

As I got up rubbing my head, someone came behind me. I recognized the smell and the voice.

"You shouldn't underestimate them. They always appear to be one step ahead." It was officer Gavin. I tried not to turn around to see him. He probably hasn't recognized me yet. I nod to his comment and I was about to leave, when... "You also shouldn't get involved with this."

"I... don't know what you're talking about."

"I know you're the girl two weeks ago with the bruises on her wrists and ankles," he said.

Nuts! That's what first came to my mind as I turned slowly around. He was surprised to see my left eye, but then looked normally at me.

"You're Evolver?"

"Not exactly. It's complicated." I answered.

"A very good reason you shouldn't get involved with this." Gavin.

"A bit too late, sir," I answered. "They attacked me the next day I came here. Not to mention I was robbed..."

"What?" he asked in shock. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"First of all, I didn't have a phone to call. Second, I don't know where the police station is. Plus, I got the flu that day."

Gavin looked frustrated. Kinda reminds my dad. He had the same habit when he can't be in two places at the same time.

Then he took a deep breath and looks at me. "You won't give up, do you?"

"I already gave my word to someone. Darens keep their words."

"Is that your last name?" Gavin asked me.

"Yes..."

Right then he sensed something. I can tell, but how, don't know. He then jumped but then the wind took him more up.

"I have to go," he said.

"Carry on, officer." I joked. He smirks at that.

I walked to the park, where I would meet up with Victor. I know so because he gave me a phone to use. He was waiting at the small pavilion. He seemed to look at something with his smartphone before he put it away.

"Well?" he asked.

"It was one of them, who attacked me back then. But I got hit from behind, so he got away." I said while I poured a bit of water on my head. Then my hair turned back to brown and my left eyes turned normal.

"Are you alright?" he asked.

"I could use ice to my head."

"How did you know it was them?"

"I recognized their smell," I told.

"You keep saying that, like you're some kind of a dog," he said as we started to walk back to the car.

"I got wolf instinct. So it was close." I answered.

"Is it part of this inherited curse of yours?"

"Yeah. By what I was told, they wanted something strong and powerful as a dragon and skillful and fierce as a wolf."

"That explains firepower then," he noted.

"So, what now?" I asked.

"We go to my office to talk more," he answered.

"Okay."

It didn't take long before we came to LFG. As we entered the employees got ready to greet him. From what I learned, he built this company when he was twenty. And now he is a top known businessman. And by the look of his face, everyone respected him... or feared him.

I was luckily dressed well. Plus, this wasn't my first visit to the company. Although I still remember their looks when they saw me. From what Victor said to cover, I'm a new trainee from a foreign area. I guess that's because I look foreign.

As we were moving forward, Victor asked his secretary, Mr. Goldman, for the reports, before we heard a female voice. As I looked who it was, it was the same young woman who was pushed in front of the car and who Victor saved. I wasn't sure why she was here, but from what I heard I learned that LFG stopped funding her company and she came to talk about it. Goldman was ready to call the guard, but Victor moved forward and explained why he did it. According to him, the company was still going by the former owner's ways and to me, it sounded like it was already in a bad situation.

I felt sorry for her, but Victor was kinda right. If she is the owner now, she should improve it. Victor moved on to the elevator, while I followed him. I was planning to mention this once we were alone, but right then...

"I WILL MAKE YOU REGRET THIS, VICTOR!"

Oh my goodness...she didn't. Victor turned and looked at her. I didn't know how to react to this.

"IN FIVE YEARS, I WILL STAND AT THE TOP OF THIS INDUSTRY! IF YOU COME CRYING TO ME THEN, IT WILL BE TOO LATE! UNDERSTAND?!"

There was a deep silence. I could tell by everyone's face that no one has ever done that to him. Or if someone has, it hasn't gone well. The young woman was surprised now at what she had said before Victor walked to her. Why do I feel everyone is holding their breaths now? I can see her looking at him, with a serious face, she was waiting for him to order the guard to take her away or worse. I hope not. If so, I felt like I needed to go between those two.

"Try and make me... if you can." Victor said.

Did he just accept the challenge of five years? I wasn't sure where this will lead to, but these two would affect who I am today.
