Leah

The forest floor beneath her paws was, as usual, soaked with the rain. It was the only noise that commented her trott with a smacking sound.

It was strange, though she was terrified, she also felt excieted and eager. It must be the pull, Leah concluded.

Instinct was a funny thing. She could not explain it yet it was so easy.

She craved his nearness, she did not care about about anything else, not even his reaction. Her body yearned for it and the thought of him alone was enough to wipe out any suspicion.

Thankfully her pack left her alone. It was astounding how understanding they were of her situation, though Leah felt more pity than real understanding. Still. The respected it more, than her pain about Sam und Emily.

The names did not sting, her heart did not clench at the memory. For the first time in feelingly years, she did not felt that emotional spiral downwards. So at least theres that.

She changed as soon as she could smell it.

There was no reason to stay in her wolf form, the last thing she wanted, was to be received as a threat.

Her instict kicked in, her body warned her of the danger the smell brang with it but she did not stopp. There was a light breeze, too faint to be noticed but strong enough to carry scent to her.

Bitingly sweet, so sweet that it made her sick to her stomach. She felt the fire in her veins, the wolf, that wanted to come fortward, to bite, fight and kill. It was overwhelming but she held her composure. She took a deep breath- it was much easier to stand the stench if you go right for it.

Under the reek there was another smell. It fighted with the unnatural sweetness and decay. It was heavenly. She knew instantly whom it belongs to. To him.

For a second she thought about fleeing and running back home. She could visit him in the hospital, where the air was polluted with the sterile odor. A neutral zone, where she was safe. At least safer than here. But she did not move. It seems that her bare legs were ankered to the ground.

Well. Now or never, she thought grimly.

She concluded, that not the whole clan was in the house. The stench was not as bad as usual, so there must be a few members missing.

It stood out in the forest, yet with its big windows and wooden walls it felt almost hidden.

Should she ring? Knock? Should she shout?

The decision was taken from her, as she saw the door opened.

Breathless she watched the eldest member of the clan emerge from the house. His moevements were fluent and elegant. Leah was sure that sie had never seen such grace before. In human speed he made his way downstairs and her eyes were glued on him.

His blonde hairs were combed out his face looked so soft, that Leahs fingers were twiching. Altough the rest of his family had this monstrous beauty, he was different. His chin, his brows, his cheekbones looked as the were carved in marmour. Proud and strong yet so soft and inviting. Leah almost did not notice, that he was standing right in front of her. He watched her with curioustiy and instantly she felt taken aback. His eyes were kind, much too kind for someone like him.

She shaked her head to get her thoughts straight. She had no idea how to start this doomed conversation, and his beauty and scent did not help.

The more time passed, the more she grew frantic. She really thought about running, but her body would not let her leave him. Unsure he tilted his head and his voice pierced through the awkward silence.

It was a symphonie.

"Edward said, you wanted to speak with me."

She knew, that he wanted to help her. To ease the situation and she was more than thankfull. After a few seconds of silence, she nodded.

"Yes. Can we-?"

Her voice was small and she hated it.

She pointed behind her. The last thing she wanted, was eavesdropping vampires.

Eagerly he nodded and she was reliefed. He did not seem to think about her as a threat, that was a start.

He waited a few steps to follow her and as soon she moved, she could feel his nearness. It was not because of her heightend senses, it was as if she was just aware of him.

Her wolf was exstatic. He rejoiced with the nearness and smell and suddenly she hat a feeling, that the nearness would not be always enough. Again she had to remember why she was here. One crisis at a time.

She stopped as soon as she was sure that there was no one listening.

She took a deep breath, her nose played with the scent and her mouth watered. His smell was so intense without the stench of the others and she was not prepared for it. Absolutely not. It took all of her power not to do something incredingly stupid.

Through the thick trees shined a pale light. With human eyes, she would not have seen anything but with her new senses it was bright as day.

This time she did not look at his face. She lost herself in it before and she had to get this over with as soon as possible.

"Well, Dr. Cullen-"

"Carlisle, please."

His accent was faint but noticable. It made him seem a bit out of place, or out of time for that matter.

"Well if you want, Leah."

His voice was a bit unsure and it was endearing.

She never thought much about her name, Sam called her Leelee and she did not really care. But the sound that it made out of his mouth was too good to be true. It made her slip and she found herself looking into his eyes. The deep amber tone was breathtaking and the kindness and cursiosity gave him a youthfull look.

"Well. I don't know what you know about our stories and the whole wolf thing.. do you know anything about imprinting?"

For a second his brows wandered upwarts and she could see that he had no clue.

"No, I fear not."

He almost seemed as he was embarressed of his missing knowledge.

"Ok. The thing is... well... somebody like me can imprint on a person. Its indiscriminately and we cannot controll it. We do not really know why this happens. Sam thinks, that its purpose is to produce the strongest offspring, Billy thinks its to make the wolf stronger." Good job. Just don't mention the word soulmate or love.

Carlisle eyes lit up. She could feel the intersest and hunger for knowledge that her words have awoken. He listened so intently, eager to learn and gain more knowledge about her kind. It was .. well it was heartwrechingly sweet. She basked in his attention and she did not even feel ashamed for it. At least he did not run from her or showed any sign of disgust. So that was a start.

"We also cannot reverse it. Its like a.. force that bounds us to that person."

His face changed and a compassionate look clouded his amber eyes.

"That does not sound enjoyable."

Leah laughed. If he only knew HOW enjoyable the bond was right now.

"It is bearable."

Carlisle seemed to be reassured and looked around.

"I guess the reason why you told me this is, that I am this person."

He put emphasis on the last word and she was thankful, that he came to this conclusion on his own.

She nodded and waited for his reaction.

A emotion passed through his face, so fleetingly that Leah almost had missed it. It was as if he solved something that was bothering him. She could see him processing the new gained information. His pale skin was iluminated by the moon, now he really looked like one of the statues she saw in the history books. His hair gave him a halo and suddenly Leah felt insecure. She knew she was not ugly, but that was for human standards. Compared to his flawless beauty she felt like a troll next to an angel.

"What can I do to make this .. thing more pleasent for you."

A hundred thoughts crossed her minds and every single one of them was dirty. She blushed and looked in his open and eager face. He wanted to help her. He really was a good man- Edward was right. As if he wasn't perfect enough.

Her stubborness wanted to shrug it off, to play it cool but she could not. She thought about Sam and her new role in his life and suddenly felt the fear, that she mere gained a similar position in Carlisle life. Just toleratet because of his good nature, it made her sick.

"The last thing I want to be is a nuisance."

As soon as the words left her mouth he shaked his head.

"You are not a nuisance, Leah. I just want to help you."

Even her skeptical self had to admit, that he was truthful. There was no lie in his eyes, only kindness. Maybe it was the imprint, maybe she grew tired but she believed him.

"It would help if we could have any form of contact. That is if your schedule is not too busy."

"It won't."

His voice was strong and that was exactly what she needed. It was not his fault, she knew that. He had no active part of this, he did not want this. As did she. They were both victims, but unlike him, she was unable to fight this. To forget this. He could continue with his life, she could not. That she knew.

Again she looked in his eyes and got lost. Her body moved in his direction. She got a grip and turned around. She felt the fire and the heat in her veins. It was hard but she managed to get away from him before she did something she would most definately regret. She was so caught up in her almost slip that she did not notice the sudden dark tone of his eyes.
