Mia sat in the backyard with Fredrick, sipping on a bottle of some fertilizer spray she found in the shed.

"So," She said, turning to the tangle of vines. "How can you talk to humans?" Fredricks yellow eyes stared back at her as the plant replied, saying, "You do not need fancy technology to talk. I simply just learned the human language from listen to young Kaia." Mia rubbed the spot on her head where she was hit by the toy shovel.

"She has a good throwing arm." The nightcap complimented.

"Yes, she does. Kaia once told me how she dreams of playing baseball."

"Huh. Wonder how far that'll go..." Mia muttered. Suddenly a scratching sound was heard. Mia looked over, whipping out one of her throwing moons and slowly walked towards the back fence.

James explained the whole situation to his parents, about how he was attacked by a zombie and how sentient plants saved him and escorted him to the pharmacy and back home. He left out the part where Mia trashed the pharmacy and didn't seem to care, for quite obvious reasons.

"-and now we need to go to the public gym where everyone is taking shelter in." James finished. His mom, who was on the couch, nodded. His sister, Kaia, asked, "Will we come back?", while clutching Mr. Fluffy, a stuffed rabbit she had since birth.

Phillip, who had gone inside, after hearing the commotion, said, "Don't worry. Once all this is over, you all can return home. Promise" He turned is head towards James' parents and said, "And our friend, Austin, will be covering your insurance should anything be damaged in our quest to free this town."

"See?" James said, getting a little anxious. This had taking longer than he'd hope. "Can we go now?" As if on que, a loud clatter was heard coming from the backyard. Phillip and James rushed out to see Mia and Fredrick fighting against a horde of zombies. Fredrick yanked zombies' heads off with his long vines while Mia danced around the undead, taken one down with each attack.

"Are you guys just going to watch or are you going to get out of here?" Mia called while slaying zombie after zombie. Phillip ran over and did a backflip. when he landed, he had an army helmet on, black lines painted on the under his eyes and several rods sticking out of his mouth. He inhaled and unleashed a green blur of peas, each taking down several zombies at a time.

"Mr. Williams!" Frederick called to James' dad. "Get your family out of here! I have protected this house for years, I can hold them off!" James' dad nodded and said, "C'mon kids!" pushing James and Kaia back inside.

"Get to the front-THOOPTHOOPTHOOP-yard and-THOOPTHOOPTHOOPTHOOP-hop in the RV!" Phillip called between pea shot. "Tell it to take you to the gym!" The family rushed outside and entered the RV.

"Penny!" James shouted. "Take off, pick up Phillip and Mia and get us to the gym!"

"Affirmative" Penny replied. She took off and flew to the backyard, where Phillip, Mia and Fredrick where fighting desperately against the ever-growing horde of zombies.

"Activating tractor beam" Penny announced. "Please stay away from the lounge" a large hole opened up in the middle of the floor as the lamp on the roof began to emit a green light. Mia and Phillip began to fly up when standing underneath and soon reached the safety of the RV. Penny sped away from James' home as he watch Fredrick battle the seemingly endless amount zombies that climbed over the fence. Looking down, he saw a group of zombies carrying actual guns charge the house.

Phillip and Mia collapsed on the floor, panting.

"Thanks, Penny..." Mia said, sounding exhausted.

"How did they find us?" Phillip said, getting up and sitting down on the couch.

"Dr Zomboss?" Mia guessed. "After all, the psycho has a heck of a lot of tech."

"Dr. who-now?" James asked. Mia sighed like it was the most obvious thing in the world, turned to face the human and explained.

"Dr. Zomboss is the leader of the entire zombie horde invading this place. He controls EVERYTHING undead."

Kaia stared out the window.

"Mommy?" She asked, not taking her eyes off of the dot that was James' house. "Will Fredrick be alright?" Mrs. Williams knelt down and said, "I'm sure he'll be alright." Phillip could see what James meant by his mom being sick. She seemed tired and she occasionally made a sniffling noise.

Mia, for some reason Phillip couldn't figure out, rolled her eyes and said, "I wouldn't count on it. No ones invincible. Judging by that horde, your friend is as good as-" Phillip elbowed her before she could finish and said, "Frederick DID say he'd take care of the house. I'm positive that by the time you get to go home, he'll be waiting for you." Phillip didn't like lying. He honestly didn't know whether the mess of vines was still alive. All Phillip could do was hope.

Dr. Zomboss flipped on the massive screen facing him, on the other side was a zombie footsoldier with a moustache and a tall cowboy hat with a big golden brain in the middle. Brian No-brainer, Dr Zomboss' best general.

"Zir." It reported, saluting. "We've taken full control of Clover Street. We are clearing out the remaining plantz there now."

"Excellent." Dr. Zomboss said. "Report on the plants behavior during these fights."

"The plantz seem disorganized. They have no strategy, just kill zombies and win battle seems to be their only plan."

Dr. Zomboss smiled evilly. He liked this zombie, he was smarter than the rest, who normally blank when it comes to complicated reports.

"Good. That would mean the rumors ARE true. That idiot Crazy Dave is not leading them. Good work. Continue your attack." The footsoldier nodded and the screen returned to black. Dr Zomboss stood up and paced back and forth in front of his desk.

"If Crazy Dave is still absent after all this time, then the plants are without a leader, even if that leader is more of an insane taco loving slob than a general."

"Yes sir." His robotic advisor, Ares, said. Dr. Zomboss named it after the silly little stories of gods the Greeks used to tell. Ares fit the description, a savage in combat and lots of battle experience. and this was war, the name stuck. "By my calculations, Master Zomboss, if the plants continue to fight without a proper leader to assist them, they will crumble in less than a year."

"And then the brains shall be ours." Dr Zomboss said. "What about that Gnomish artifact we found in the Gnomiverse?"

"We have not been able to decipher its meaning yet, but we will in due time." Dr. Zomboss nodded and walked over to the massive window where he could view his city. Soon, everything up to the horizon, and maybe more, would be his.
