Chapter 4: Your Turn
Addison was oh so grateful for George's obliviousness when Meredith mentioned the shirt. He chucked the comment to the morphine as the blonde intern giggled sweetly when he wheeled her away. She could hear giggles and humming all the way down the hallway as George took the girl to the OR.
The redhead relaxed for all of one minute before Alex came to hound her for not answering her page. Her pregnant patient was really going to need the C-section. So instead of heading over to watch Meredith's surgery, as she had originally intended, she went the other way towards her patient.
The surgery went well and word through the grapevine was that Meredith was also well, even when George had been the one to do most of the appendectomy. She was sitting at the Attending's lounge with Meredith's shirt in her hands trying hard to remember what had happened the night before. She was getting glimpses but they were out of context so she had really no idea what had gone on.
She remembered the park and the rain and the fact that she said 'pretty eyes' then she also remembered asking Meredith to come up with her. After that though it was just the glimpses. Walking into the room and throwing herself in the bed. Meredith standing in front of the bathroom door. Getting tucked in. Her eyes. Her smile.
Addison was so lost in thought that she did not notice the pair of blue eyes studying her. She was still clutching the shirt when she finally sensed she was not alone. Looking up she found Derek sitting across from her.
"Jesus Christ, Derek!" Addison exclaimed startled. She fought the urge to tuck the shirt she was holding under her and just looked at him.
"Sorry." Derek continued to look at her as if sizing her up or so she thought.
"What?" She asked annoyed.
"So did you bring Mark here to make me jealous? Because I gotta tell you Addison," he tsked and shook his head. "That won't work on me at all. I don't love you anymore."
Addison looked at him first shocked and then amused. She began to chuckle until she was full out laughing. Derek on the other hand looked puzzled by her reaction.
"You..." She chuckled some more. "You think I'd lower myself that much? Derek... c'mon." She continued to laugh. "You thought I brought Mark here to make you jealous?" She shook her head and tried stifling her laughter. "Your ego is getting too big there. It's clouding your judgement."
"I'd say." Mark said walking in. "Hey Red." He greeted her.
"Hi Mark. Now do tell, what are you doing here?" She directed towards him after Derek stayed quiet.
"I came for you. Since you won't come back I thought I'd bring myself here to make it harder for you to say no." Mark said with a smile.
"You sicken me." Derek said as he walked by him purposely bumping into him.
"Oh, Mark." Addison chuckled lightly and shook her head.
"What?" He said rubbing his shoulder. "Isn't he all over that blonde girl. Why's he mad?" He asked with fake innocence.
"You sure are something." Addison scoffed.
"What's that in your hands?" Mark asked as he walked towards the couch she was sitting on.
"Just a shirt that I have to return." She replied while getting up and flattening her white coat.
"Addison let's go get a drink." He suggested as she walked by him.
"No thank you." She replied sweetly.
"Ah c'mon Addie. Let's go." He begged.
"No." She replied.
"Why not?" He asked as she headed to the door.
"Because I don't want to." She replied, opening the door and he followed.
"Just one drink. Or just fries and a soda while I drink?" He suggested with a smirk.
"I said no Mark." Addison matched his smirk.
"Ok fine, but why don't you want to?" He pushed again, stopping her by the nurses' station.
"Because I drank too much yesterday and my liver needs a break." She said.
"Fine." He grunted in defeat and looked at her.
"Stop looking at me like that." Addison said as she looked at him out of the corner of her eyes.
"Like what?" He smirked.
"Like you've seen me naked." She said lowering her voice so only he could hear.
"But I've seen you naked. You're a work of art." He winked at her with a smile, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"Shut up." She said as she shook off his hand and walked away.
"Hey Red!" He called as she left.
"What Mark?" She rolled her eyes as she walked.
"You look hot in that skirt!" He shouted after her grinning. Addison snapped her head to look at him and scoffed as she continued walking away.
Meredith woke up to the sound of a plastic wrapper being torn. As she opened her eyes she found Finn on the chair at the far corner of the room with a bag of chips. He noticed she was awake and his face lit up with the smile he was giving her. He was about to say something when her attention got drawn to another thing. She began to stir a bit as she heard the sound of heels coming towards the room.
The blonde could not help the tiny smile that tugged at the corners of her mouth as she saw Addison walk in. Just like that the notion that Finn was there watered down into nothing. All her attention was on Addison who wore a small smile and whose eyes pierced through her.
"You're awake." Addison said, somewhat oblivious to Finn. Meredith just smiled her eyes crinkling at the corners.
"Ahem." Finn cleared his throat and Addison jumped slightly at the sound. "Dr. Shepherd, how do you do?" He greeted politely.
"H-hello." Addison threw him a tight lipped smile. "It's Montgomery now." She corrected.
"Oh. Sorry." Finn said with his puppy eyes.
Meredith was a sucker for those. 'Maybe that was why I liked McDreamy. It's the eyes.' She thought. Only it seemed it was not just a thought because both Addison and Finn turned to look at her.
"Oh... I said that out loud. Didn't I?" Meredith said and then giggled. Clearly the buzz from the anesthesia was still there.
"You did. You said it to his wife." Finn said with a shy smile as he looked apologetically at Addison.
"Well her eyes are prettier and she's not his wife anymore. She just told you, silly, McVet." Meredith began then turned her attention to Addison. Her filter was gone when she started speaking again. "Maybe one day she'll be mi-" She stopped. "That's my shirt!" She shouted and giggled.
"Meredith Grey! Stop yelling. This is a hospital." Bailey said as she walked in and Addison could not be happier.
"But..." Meredith laughed.
"But what?" Bailey challenged.
"But you're yelling." Meredith replied as she continued to laugh.
If looks could kill poor Meredith would have been dead because the look Miranda Bailey was giving could have any person squirming. Addison coughed to hide the chuckle that worked its way out. Finn, on the other hand, earned himself a glare from the small resident as he chuckled along with Meredith.
"I need to do her post-op and I'd appreciate it if the vet could step out now." Bailey said in an annoyed tone. Finn complied immediately.
"I'll wait outside too." Addison said looking at Miranda who grunted at her in response.
Addison and Finn leaned against opposite walls and waited in silence as Bailey did her exam. After a few minutes Derek sauntered over quickly locking eyes with Finn. Addison fought the urge to slap him across the face when she noted the arrogance with which he regarded the other man. She simply rolled her eyes and let out a sigh. She felt it better if she left and just came back later. Meredith did not need the shirt now and with how buzzed she still was she would not be able to hold a conversation. As she pushed off the wall Bailey came out of the room and turned to her.
"She asked for you and since visiting hours are done, you two can leave." Bailey said nonchalantly.
"I work here. I don't have to leave." Derek countered.
"I'm just going to grab my things and go." Finn said, slipping into the room and closing the door behind him.
"Meredith Grey is my patient and my intern so as I said visiting hours are over, Dr. Shepherd, and my intern is off the clock so she doesn't have to see you. Now go." Bailey stood her ground and looked up at him.
"Why the hell does my wife get to go in?" Derek waved his arms around.
"Only one person can stay the night with her. And it so happens that she asked for your ex-wife," Bailey emphasized the last word for which Addison was grateful. "The rest of my interns are working, no one else can watch her, so I'm ok with the arrangement Grey came up with."
"I want to see her." Derek said, clearly annoyed as he walked closer to the resident.
"Your height doesn't scare me mister... what is it? McDreamy? Now shooo." Bailey said as she pushed him away from Meredith's door.
Addison could hear him arguing but Bailey would not budge and kept nudging him away. The redhead sighed and as she went to open the door it flew open and Finn walked out.
"Congratulations." He said as he walked past her.
"Excuse me?" Addison tried but he was gone without a reply.
A bit taken aback she walked into the room shutting the door behind her. Meredith's eyes were on the fruit basket but as she heard the door she snapped her attention towards the attending.
"Finn looked upset. Is something wrong?" Addison asked as she moved closer to Meredith.
"He's gone, bye-bye, forever." Meredith replied a little sadness showing in her eyes.
"I thought you guys were together. Weren't you dating him?" Addison said a confused look in her eyes.
"Not anymore. What I was doing was wrong. Finn had no chance of winning." Meredith replied with a shrug.
"Winning?" Addison tilted her head as she questioned her.
"You ask a lot of questions Dr. Montgomery." Meredith giggled.
"Oh... ummm sorry." Addison said, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"It's ok silly." Meredith said with a big smile. "You're staying with me right?"
"Umm it appears so. But if you want I can get Derek." Saying that left a bitter taste in her mouth. Here she was offering her ex-husband to his ex-mistress. What a weird and absurd situation.
"I want you. Not Derek." Meredith said with a pout, dragging her away from her thoughts. "Besides you owe me. It's your turn now." She finished her pout widening into a smile.
"Oh, r-right." Addison replied nervously.
"Don't worry, Addie." Meredith said. Addison suddenly felt her heart swell up a little and her face heat up slightly as the intern used her nickname. "I won't ask you to take off your shirt so I can wear it."
Addison was speechless as Meredith said that with her idiotic high smile. She felt the heat on her face intensify at what the intern had suggested she had done the previous night. She was rooted to her spot until Meredith extended her hand towards her.
"I will ask for your hand though." Meredith said sweetly. "I'm a little scared. It's not that I don't trust him but George was the one to do this. What if something went wrong?" She said, sounding a bit scared.
Addison stood there a while, staring at Meredith's outstretched hand. Then she looked into her eyes and saw the vulnerability she had never seen on the girl.
"Will you hold my hand, Addie?" Meredith asked, her bottom lip quivered. She was starting to withdraw her hand when impulsively Addison moved forward and took it.
"I will definitely hold your hand. You'll be ok Meredith." She said sweetly, dragging the chair with her to sit next to the bed.
Meredith squeezed her hand a bit a few minutes after. Addison felt her grasp begin to ease as small snores flooded the room signaling the girl was asleep. She thought of withdrawing her hand but went she slightly moved it Meredith tightened her hold and whimpered a bit in her sleep. After a while, Addison, being as tired as she was, leaned in placing her head on the small empty space next to the sleeping intern and fell asleep herself.
And then there were 4! And I'm updating early. I'm sorry my schedule is all over the place this week so I'm thinking I'll update as the chapters are written. Anyway my props to the writers that do more than one fic at a time. My head is going to explode because while I'm writing for one story a scene for the other one gets in my mind and blocks me. Thank you for all the reviews and votes on both stories and please don't get impatient, I will update as much as I can. If anything you can check my Twitter (@NiceMinePotato1) since I've also gotten into the habit of making little scenes off of pictures and gifs (I have a problem, I know.) Enough ranting though. I hope y'all enjoy. Keep on commenting and telling me what you think. ;)
