Season 1. Episode 3.

(Apophis threatens the Tollan. Carter, Conrad and O'Neill meets with Narim to fight the Goa'uld threat. But a disturbing truth is learnt.).

The SGC was quiet. No missions. Now gate activity. No nothing. Hammond was on the phone with his grandchildren, Teel'c was off world visiting his son and Bra'tac. Jack was fishing, Carter was in her lab.

But Conrad. He was in his apartment all by himself. It's been three years since his foster parents died. Two months with the SGC. Sitting there, he held the photo of him with them where he won his first Primary School prize. It was his most precious item. Then his phone rang. Wiping his tears, he answered it. "Baird.". It was Carter. "Hey, did I disturbed you?" she asked. Conrad replied. "No, I am just sitting.". Carter then continued. "Right, we need you quickly.". Conrad hung up and got his things.

At base, the Stargate was active. Walter identified the code. "It's the Tollan.". General Hammond crossed his arms. "Open the Iris.". Then came a man with a cat. He smiled at everyone. Carter went to him and hugged him. "Narim.". Narim hugged her back. "Hey, Sam. I missed you.". Jack then came. "Narim.". Conrad then approached. Narim saw him. "Who might you be?". Conrad held his hand out. "Private Conrad Baird.". Jack then smiled. "Not anymore.". Then everyone started clapping. Conrad lifted a brow. Hammond then came with a case. He opened it to show a medal and stars. With a smile he said. "In honour from the President of the United States, I, General George Hammond, award this silver cross, for your heroism and selflessness for risking your life, capturing the Goa'uld symbiote before taking a host.". He placed the star on his uniform. But he continued. "And I hereby promote you, to First Lieutenant." With that he placed the stars on his soldiers. The applause went on. Conrad was pulled in a hug by the General. With a whisper Conrad said. "Thank you uncle George.". When they pulled apart, Conrad shook hands with Jack. Holding his hand out for Carter, he got something else. A kiss on the cheek. He blushed deep. Teel'c and Daniel showed up in time. Teel'c bowed his head. Daniel gave a salute. Narim on the other hand. Just stared.

The ceremony was over. Conrad was sitting in the locker room with his medal. "Hierdie, was iets om te verdien.". (This is something to earn.). Then the cat came sitting on his lap. With a call. "Schrödinger, where are you?". Narim came in seeing his cat. "There you are.". Picking the cat up he held it close. Conrad got up and prepared to walk when he was stopped. "Where do you fit in here?" Narim asked. Conrad turned around. "I recently joined.". Narim nodded. "I am Narim, by the way.". Conrad took his hand and shook it. Narim then stood up. "I am came to invite your team to a party. Daniel and Teel'c are going. Maybe you wanna join?". Conrad thought of it. It's not like he will get drugged again. So he excepted.

They wormhole opened and the invited team came out. Sam came out and was happy to see the old allies again. But they wondered something. "Where is she?" asked Jack. Narim smiled. "The Chancellor has been executed for treason. Which is why we are here.". Conrad just didn't understand. "Excuse me?". Sam then explained to him of the past events with the Tollan. Once understood, Conrad just didn't know what to say.

The party was big that night. Jack was discussing with Narim of an Alliance treaty. Sam was having a fun time. Conrad on the other hand, was away from the party. He was sitting on a stone, sketching. It was like therapy to him. It freed his mind. While sketching the last detail, Sam came to him. "Wow, you got some talent." She said. Conrad smiled. "Thanks. Helps me relax.". Sam held her hand out. "Care to dance?" she asked. Conrad's eyes grew twice their size. "I'll try.". Sam then joked. "Do or do not, there is no try.". Conrad laughed. "Not a bad Yoda impression.". They went onto the dance floor. They bind their hands. Conrad wasn't sure where to place his other so he asked. Carter giggled. "On my waist.". Conrad did and they moved on the rhythm of the music. As Jack and Narim were speaking, Daniel tapped on his shoulder. "Jack, look." He said pointing. Jack looked. "I didn't know Carter dances.". Daniel rolled his eyes. "Not that. Look again.". Jack did. "Conrad? Sense when?" he asked. Narim then felt a little sadness. He had this thing for Carter for a while now.

As Conrad spin Carter, she came in his arms perfectly. For a pause they looked at each other. They slowly lend in. But Conrad pulled away. "Sorry.". Under her breathe Carter left a disappointing sigh. Conrad let her go and scratched his head. "I am kind of embarrassed now.". Narim then approached. "Sam, may I speak with you?" he asked. Sam nodded and walked with Narim. Conrad sat down on a bench. Children came running around. One kicked a ball, which he caught and kicked lightly to the kids.

Narim and Sam where alone. He looked at her with sorrow. "Sam, you know how I had feelings for you. I wish to know, is there someone else?". Sam now felt a strange tingle. "Narim, Conrad lost his friends and family three years ago. I am just trying to make him fit in." she informed. Narim smiled. "Your heart is so pure." He kissed her hand and went back to his meeting. Sam lend against the wall now. She doesn't know what is going on. She has to admit that she started developing feelings for Conrad, but she is his superior officer, a higher ranking one. It's against protocol. She can't stop staring into his sharp blue eyes. She just want to hold him and stroke his military cut blonde hair. It's like she is fixated on him. But in a different way.

After the party they prepared to leave. But Narim stopped them. "Please, stay the night, you can leave tomorrow morning.". The team excepted. But Conrad was nervous. Never did he had to spend a night on an alien planet. They were given courters near the gate. Conrad sat on the bed all alone. Looking at the moon.

But a nightmare came to his dreams.

He was running through a endless hallway. Bodies were littered everywhere. He suddenly fell in a dark pit, crashing on the floor he saw a horrifying sight. Everyone in the SGC was dead. The base was destroyed. But what shocked him the most was himself. He was wearing Jaffa clothes. He had a staff weapon and a sword tainted in blood. He suddenly lost control over his body, he knelt. Apophis's voice then lingered over his head. "Well done, you made me proud.". But what shocked Conrad the most was his words……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

"Thank you father.".

Conrad jumped up and held his pistol aimed at the wall. Sweat was pouring from his forehead. Calming down, he saw it was dawn.

Now it was time to return home. As the gate came to life, Narim was greeting everyone. Sam got a hug. Teel'c, Jack and Daniel got a handshake. Conrad, well, got a salute. Which he returned. They went through the gate and got home. General Hammond greeted them. "What took you so long?". Jack strolled down. "We stayed the night.". Conrad was making sure he was a few feet from Sam. After the past night events, he was a little unsure of what to do.

But General Hammond told them to take the rest of the week off. Conrad was in the locker room placing his things away, but then someone approached him. "Major?" asked Conrad. Sam then stood there. "Why didn't you do it?" she asked. Conrad tried to avoid it. "Sorry what?" he pretended. Carter rolled her eyes. "On the dance floor. Why didn't you kiss me?" she asked. Conrad thought on an answer. "It's against protocol. I am a Lieutenant, you're a Major.". Sam then laughed. "That's not it, isn't it?". Conrad just went on minding his own business. Then a question came to his mind. "Can I buy you a drink?" he asked. Carter smiled. "Thought you'd never ask.".

Oh boy, he has done it.

The pub was quit, a few at the bar, few at the pool table, and a few at the tables. Sam and Conrad playing the pool table. Conrad just hit the black ball into the corner, winning the game. Sam nodded. "Good strategy.". Conrad smirked. "Thanks. Not bad yourself.". Sam reset the game and gave a look at Conrad. "Got someone special in your life? That's why you didn't kiss me?" she asked. Conrad chuckled. "Single. You?". Sam shook her head. "Not anymore.". Conrad tilted his head. "Divorced?". Sam sighed. "Yeah. Guy was nice at the start, he turned out to be an asshole. He died recently.". Conrad huffed. "I know the feeling. I was engaged once. She dumped my ass on the day of the wedding.". Sam then looked shocked. "Sorry.". Conrad missed his target then just grunted. "It's fine. I found out the next day she was cheating on me. With a friend of mine.". Sam then just groaned. "That is wrong in so many dictionaries.". Conrad nodded. "Yeah.".

Then Sam's phone rang. She answered. "Carter. Yes sir.". Conrad needed no explanation.

The gate room was filled with security. Conrad went in to find a note. Picking it up he read it out loud. "If SG-1 doesn't show themselves in front of me, shall you see the doom of the Tollan. Signed……….. Apophis.".

Silence.

Conrad then marched out to get his gear. Jack was close behind. "Hey, what the hell are you doing?". Conrad was now loading his P90. "This might be my only chance to avenge my family. I can't let this pass.". Jack then grabbed his stuff. "Agreed.". Both of them then stood in front of the gate. Teel'c got the message and grabbed his staff weapon. Carter and Daniel were close behind. The gate opened and the team went through.

On the other side they prepared to fire. But they found no one. Only one man. Apophis.

Apophis then threw his weapons down. "I came to speak. You have something I want.". Jack kept his gun aimed. "Like what?". Apophis's eyes glowed. "My son.". Daniel then spoke. "We don't have Klorel.". Apophis then huffed. "No, my other son. The Cha'tahr.". Teel'c then gasped. "They were meant to be extinct.". Apophis laughed. "They can be bred, all you need is a Goa'uld posset host and a Tau'ri.". But then Apophis stopped. He eyed Conrad. "I sense something in you.". He then stepped back. "How? Son?" was all he said.

Now everyone was looking at Conrad. Conrad shook his head. "No! I am not your son!". Teel'c then eyed Conrad. "I sense it too.". Conrad then yelled. He attacked Apophis hard. Apophis was on the ground while Conrad was punching him. He kept punching and punching. "I am not your son! I am not your son!" he repeated.

Apophis then slammed his palm on Conrad's forehead and his eyes started glowing. Conrad fell backwards yelling while clutching his forehead. Jack then aimed the gun. "What did you do to him?!". Apophis just said won sentence. "Gave him answers.". Then in a beam of light, he was gone.

Back on Earth, Doc Fraiser was looking at Conrad's brain scans. "His inner lobe of the brain is giving off signals that aren't normal, possibly what Apophis did to him.". Sam then asked. "Is it critical?". Doc Fraiser shook her head. "I have no idea.". In the isolation room, Conrad was rubbing his head. It was stinging at a next level. Doc Bishop was now taking his temperature. " Describe your headache.". Conrad looked at him. "Tequila, hang over.". Doc Bishop then held a light at Conrad's eyes. "You're fine.".

Conrad got up. But as he got up he grunted. "That was weird.". Doc Bishop then looked at him. "What was?". Conrad looked up. "I saw something. A woman. But, she looked familiar.". Teel'c then tilted his head. "I might be able to get these visions out.". Conrad looked at him. "How?".

Kelmory. Conrad was surrounded by candles. Teel'c then stood in front of him. "Close your eyes, and concentrate.". Conrad did. He then within a flash of a light, was surrounded by images that he presumed were his memories. " I am here. My memories. Give me a second.". Searching through his memories he found what he was looking for. "I found it. It's a letter.".

With that he started reading.

My dear boy, if you have this, then you don't trust me, I hope to make you understand. This is what happened the day I came to earth.

I wanted a vacation from my empire, my First Prime, Bra'tac was trying to get me Earth ready. I tried to adapt. I settled in the country you grew in. South Africa. I got myself a job as a bartender. For five years I learnt what it was like being human. But that changed the day I met your mother.

I was serving drinks until she sat at the counter. With a smile I asked what she would like to drink. She told me with a smile. Tequila. A man came and picked on her, of course I wasn't gonna let that happen. So I kicked the sucker's ass. Your mother then traded numbers with me. Of course I didn't know what to do, but something in her eyes was different.

On our first date we sat on the grass, a picnic if I remember correctly. We sat there and talked. I used my cover story that I was from Egypt. I was studying photography. But we then felt something. I felt like I belong. That is where it began.

For two years she and I were together. I loved her dearly. I would've given my empire up for her. But I didn't leave by free will. We were going to get married. She was carrying you. I was happy to be a father, not to a Goa'uld symbiote, but to a human. But, as I left for work, I was taken by my own. Bra'tac said I was needed. I wanted to get this over with. I told Bra'tac to look after your mother for me. So he did.

A year later, he came to me. Saying that you died during birth. And told me your mother, was gone. I was broken, for weeks I would stand on my balcony and yell to the heavens, cry, grief. She was my dearest and you've been my creates creation. I shielded myself from everything. Becoming the monster I am today.

Conrad opened his eyes, realizing he said it all out loud. Jack was literally shedding a tear. "That was emotional.". Conrad looked at him. "I saw a gate address. I think it has more answers.".

Conrad was now dialling the gate address in. The gate went on and Conrad ran down the stairs to the gate. Without thinking twice, he jumped through. On the other side he fell off the stares and landed on his back. An elderly man dressed in Jaffa clothes help him up. "I am Bra'tac. Who are you?". Conrad got up and held his hand out. "Conrad Baird. SGC.". Bra'tac then fell silent. He smiled and shook hands. "Look at you, all grown. Last time I saw you I gave you to your foster family.". Conrad then snorted. "I see.".

Bra'tac then invited him into his home. At the table they were talking. "How long have you been on this planet?" asked Conrad. Bra'tac then looked out of his window. "A year now. So, you're probably wondering how you ended up in this mess. After you were born, I promised your mother that you will live a happy life. I spend for months undercover as a doctor, finding perfect parents for you. I found a couple who couldn't have children, I gave you to them. I told them that your father disappeared when you were born, and your mother left you on the hospital doorstep.".

Conrad nodded. "I see, did you know of General Hammond being my uncle, in a way of speaking.". Bra'tac shook his head. "No. I didn't.".

Back on Earth, the gate activated and Conrad came through. General Hammond came to him and hugged him. "What in Heaven's name were you thinking?". Conrad smiled. "I know everything now.".
