"What my dad did with the desk, that didn't need to happen. I guess he's not likely to change his mind," Kim said, but Alex simply shook his head and smiled.
"It's OK, it doesn't change anything for me," he replied. Sure, he was risking incurring Jack's wrath even more, but his love for Kim was growing by the day.
"Maybe we can keep it away from work? It's not like they can tell what we're doing outside of CTU," Kim suggested. She loved her dad, but she believed him to be overreacting and wanted nothing more than for her wishes to be accepted rather than to be seen as a problem by him.
"I think it's a good idea, no camera footage to worry about around here," Alex replied, before grinning. Sure, there was a chance someone from CTU might see them together outside of work, but Los Angeles was a big place and it wasn't as if they weren't friends outside of CTU.
The following weeks went by without much incident. Alex and Kim had met often at the park, whilst things at work existed as if the kiss had never happened. On a quiet Thursday morning, Alex was anxiously thinking to himself as he sat at the break room table.
Why do I have an urge to go out there, go up to her desk and kiss her like nobody else was around? Am I really that willing to get in trouble?
He didn't notice Jack coming into the room, but Jack noticed the troubled look on his face.
"Alex, is everything OK?" Jack asked. He could tell that Alex was thinking hard about something. Looking back at him, Alex nodded.
"Yeah, just have things on my mind, that's all. I probably should get back to work," he replied, standing up to do just that.
"OK, well, it's usually a good idea to talk about things with friends," Jack spoke, and Alex had to repress a smirk.
Pretty sure that won't be happening!
"Maybe, I'm sure everything will work out fine," Alex replied, before leaving the break room. Jack watched as he left, and for a moment he wondered if the "problem" was still in existence. He hadn't noticed anything, though, and Alex and Kim seemed to be keeping things professional whilst at work. Of course, he had no idea that things were different outside of it.
Later that day, Alex was driving out of work when he received a text message from Kim, asking him to meet at the usual place. He smiled and replied back saying that he would be there soon, and began the journey to a place that had come to be special to them. It was only after he arrived that he got a frantic call from her.
"Alex, get out of there! I didn't send the message!" Kim warned him, panic in her voice. Quickly, he looked around for whoever did send the message, before jumping back into his car and peeling off. He had no intention of sticking around to find out who and why, not that he needed many guesses for those. As he drove away from the park, he could see a black SUV following him, and he was pretty sure it was a CTU vehicle he had used himself, going by the licence plate. The driver seemed to be wearing a mask, meaning he had no idea who it was.
This is just crazy! I wish I could see who it was in the car, but I don't think it's Jack! Not sure whether that's a good thing or not.
Going as fast as he was able to, Alex put his training as a CTU agent into good use, and was soon able to escape the mystery car. Parking up in an alleyway and sighing, he wondered if there would be any consequences at work the day after. Then, in the mirror, he noticed the black SUV turn the corner, trapping him in the alleyway. He looked around frantically for any means of escape and noticed one of the nearby walls was just short enough for him to able to climb over. Jumping out of his car, he ran over to the wall and as he landed on the other side, he could hear his pursuer start to climb the wall. Finding a discarded table leg amongst a nearby pile of trash, he stood near the wall and watched as the unknown figure appeared and he took his chance as soon as he could, smashing the leg into the back of the man's knees, which caused him to fall backwards onto the ground. Pulling off the man's balaclava, he stared at him in shock.
Adam? What on Earth is he doing? Did Jack put him up to this?
"Adam, I want you to explain what the hell you're doing, right now!" Alex demanded as Adam recovered from the blow to his legs.
"Jack asked me to follow you, I don't know why!" Adam replied, and Alex sighed, before dropping the table leg. He could only assume that Jack had sent the message before sending Adam to scare Alex. He could only wonder what Adam's plan was by chasing him on foot.
So he hasn't forgotten, then! I'm not sure what else we can do. I wonder how he was able to send the message?
"I want you to get back in your car and go home. Just, don't mention this to anyone at work, OK? It's nothing serious and it's certainly nothing CTU need to worry about," Alex replied, hoping that he didn't sound too desperate. Nodding as he got back up, Adam said nothing as he walked around the corner to his car. Waiting until he saw the SUV pass by before he went to his own car, Alex could only wonder what he and Kim could do now. He wanted to keep going, build a relationship with Kim, but Jack was so determined to stop them that he was sending CTU agents in CTU vehicles after him!
It's not like I could report this to CTU either. Tony seems to agree with Jack, and I don't want more and more people knowing about me and Kim until - unless - things change with Jack. Especially any of those at Division who are just waiting for the day I follow in my sister's footsteps, it's almost like they want me to be a mole or even a terrorist just so they can say they were proven right.
