Chapter 4: Help
(Flashback)
Twelve year old Prince packed his backpack and was getting ready to go out the window. "Are you running away again?" Emily asked from the hallway of her brother's room. "Go back to bed Em," Prince said looking at his younger sister. "How can I go back to sleep when I know your running away again," Emily said, crossing her arms. "Just please go back to sleep Em," Prince begged his sister. Emily moved forward and hugged her brother. "Be safe and don't get caught," Emily said while hugging her brother tightly. Emily then let's go and then goes back to her room. Prince then sighs before grabbing his backpack and goes out the window.
Prince travels downtown and then finds a bus stop. Prince sits down at the bus stop and waits for the bus. "Where do you think your going at this time of the night?" Asked a very familiar voice. To Prince's surprise, his father caught him at the bus stop and sat next to him. "Dad? What are you doing here?" Prince asked, surprised. "We have Motion sensors at home you know," the husky father said with a chuckle. "Darn it," Prince said, crossing his arms and sitting back in his seat. "Tell me what's wrong son," Richard asked as he puts his arm around his son. "Everything! I always get into trouble for no reason," Prince said, not looking at his father. "Well son, you do have a temper when it comes to saving your sister," Richard explained. "So! She needs me! I don't want her to get hurt or worse," Prince said still crossing his arms. "Well, who would protect her when your gone?" Richard asked with a soft smile. "I… well… I don't know," Prince said letting out a breath of disbelief. "Alright then son, let's go home," Richard said standing up from the bus bench. "Dad?" Prince asked looking up at his father. "Yes son?" Richard asked looking at the young pup. "Am I in trouble now?" Prince said as he got off the bench.
"Well son, there will be a consequence for running away in the middle of night but you're not grounded," Richard said wrapping his arm around his son as they walked over to Richard's car. "Dad?" Prince asked as he looked up at his father while they walked to the car. "Yes son?" Richard said looking down at his son. "Can we get something to eat?" Prince asked. "Hmmm… how about some pie?" Richard said as they got into the car. "Sounds good dad," Prince said getting into the passenger seat of the car. Richard chuckled as he closed his son's car door and then went to the driver side door and then they were off to a pie shop that was open in the middle of the night.
(Present day)
"And that was the last time I ever ran away," Prince said before taking a drink of his coffee. The alcoholics support group all clapped at Prince's little story. "Thank you Mr. Huskin for sharing that story," the guidance counselor said with a smile. Prince chuckled as he took another drink of his black coffee. After the meeting was over, Prince came out of the building and met up with Rad. "So… how did it go mate?" Rad asked with a smile. "Terrible, let's get out of here," Prince said passing Rad coldly. "Come on mate, it couldn't have been that bad," Rad said as he walked with Prince. "I had to talk about my past a bit," Prince said while walking. "Well that's good," Rad said in a cheerful tone. "No it's not! It hurts!" Prince snap at Rad while continued to walk down the street. "Well mate, it's going to hurt for a bit," Rad explained. "And black coffee is nasty!" Prince snapped again. "Didn't they have creamer or sugar?" Rad asked. Prince stopped in his tracks and looked at Rad. "No, and you want to know why? Because In case if we're intoxicated they have black coffee for sobering us up!" Prince shouted in anger showing his gold tooth.
"Well you didn't have to drink it mate," Rad said with a chuckle. "Ugh! Your impossible Heeler! What did my sister ever see in you!" Prince said storming away from Rad. Rad then continued to follow Prince until they came to a burger shop. "Come on, Heeler, let's get food before we go home," Prince said walking into the burger shop. "Shouldn't you be eating healthy mate?" Rad asked as the two sat. "What the coach doesn't know won't hurt him," Prince said while grabbing a menu. "Prince my boy!" A older pit bull said coming out of the kitchen. "Hey! Max! How's the family?" Prince said with a smile. "There doing good my friend! What can I get started for you?" Max asked as he came over to the table and patted Prince on the shoulder. "Two Max specials my dog!" Prince said with a smile.
"You got it!" Max said as he went to the kitchen. "You come here a lot?" Rad asked. "Best burgers in the whole city," Prince said with a smile. "Right," Rad said sitting back in his chair. "Took Thomas here a lot when he was younger," Prince said while playing with a toothpick with his teeth. "Oh, that's nice," Rad said looking down at the table. "Would have took Charlie if it would have happened," Prince said still playing with the toothpick. "Prince, don't," Rad said, getting offended. "What I would have," Prince said, speaking the truth. "I know what your doing and it's not funny, it's already hard enough that I wasn't there for Thomas when he was growing up," Rad said looking away from Prince.
"Sorry I was just trying to make conversation," Prince said putting the toothpick down. "Yeah, well, it's not the right conversation," Rad said looking at Prince. "What happened to being the best brother in law I could ever have?" Prince said with a chuckle. "Stop!" Rad shouted in anger. Everyone in the shop looked at the two dogs "touchy," Prince said with a smirk. "This is why you need help Prince your too dark for your own good," Rad said in a whisper. Prince growled and then realized Rad was right. Prince knew what he doing what he normally does, torture dogs that didn't deserve it. "I'm sorry, I should've have brought up Charlie or what you said all those years ago," Prince said looking down. "It's okay, just… leave it be mate," Rad said calmly. "Here we go, my boys," Max said, placing down the food and drinks. "Thanks Max," Prince said as Max left the two dogs ate their food in silence.
After eating Prince paid for the food and then the two were off to go home. Prince unlocked his penthouse door and then two went in not saying a word. "I'm going to work out in my gym, if you want you can join me or stay in the living room and watch TV or do whatever you do," Prince said, placing his keys on the counter. "You have a gym?" Rad asked. "Like I said it pays to be rich," Prince said with a smile before heading to his gym. Rad rolled his eyes and then followed Prince to his gym. The two dogs worked out for about two hours without talking to each other or getting into each other's way. After the work out the two went to their own rooms and took a shower. After that they met in the living room and sat down facing each other. "So… what do you want to do now?" Prince asked. Rad shrugged in response. "Okay then… how's your love life?" Prince asked nervously hoping not to set the Heeler off. "It's good, how's yours?" Rad asked curiously. Prince laughed out loud, "I don't have one, I've dated off and on but nothing sticks because all the girls just want my money," Prince said with a smile. "Well mate you'll find someone eventually," Rad said with a smile.
Prince chuckled. "Right eventually," Prince said looking out his window. "You plan on getting married?" Prince asked looking back at Rad. "Yeah, I plan on doing that," Rad said with a chuckle. "Lucky girl," Prince said looking out the window again as it started to rain. "She sure is," Rad added. Prince wanted to make a remark about his sister in comparison but then remembered how he hurt Rad earlier in Max's burger shop. "Your not bad Heeler your not bad," Prince said still looking out the window and watching it rain while some lightning strikes. "Oh yeah? How do those words taste mate?" Rad asked with a chuckle. "Like vinegar, but I'll get used to it," Prince said with a smile. The two then laughed at themselves as the stormy night went on.
