A/N: Hello everyone, this is just a little plot bunny that popped up after playing Total war Warhammer 2… mainly completing a Skaven campaign that will still give me nightmares about the little shits. Also, the main idea behind this comes from SeerKing's Gaming Gear, so if you want to read a better written and consistently updated fic go read that one… as well as the gamer series by ImBoredSoJustDoingRandomFanfic or The Dark Wolf Shiro.

Currently, I plan on going: Trails of cold steel 1 - My Hero Academia - DC/Teen Titans/Young Justice - FE3H - SRW OG 1-2 - RWBY - DxD - Bleach - Worm - Saga of Tanya the Evil

Each world that the protag goes to will have specific rules, IE: in the SRW-verse personal combat abilities will have a reduced use whilst vehicle-based abilities will be enhanced. Additionally, the Protag has the choice of resetting their stat points to baseline in return for a larger stat multiplier, as well as a reduction in time to increase those stats… think a mix between Disgaea's resurrection system with Adventure Capitalist.

A further point this is the opening chapter as such it will mainly be covering the initial explanations of the Gamer system that I am using, I am using an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of it and for progression. I plan on posting this and at least three chapters at the same time so I hope you enjoy it!

Warnings: Garmer troupes, SIOC, probable gore and other dark themes, swearing and unoriginal ideas abound... It is a gamer fic after all.

Chapter one: To new beginnings.

[Good morning Gamer… you have slept in a bed that you own 100% HP/SP/MP recovery]

Needless to say not what I expected to see as I woke up this morning, just another day in the lockdown: Wake up, shower, put on a fresh set of clothes, cook breakfast for my family…

[Cooking skill transferred over from life before activation of the system…

Cooking passive/active: LV 30/100. EXP 75%

Cooking is an essential life skill to have, it is one of the things that makes us truly human and unique… for now. Passive: effect of cooked items x ((LV x Item freshness) x item quality).

Active:

Effect 1: Time to create [Cooked food] = standard time / LV;

Effect 2: Diamond in the rough: the ability to turn lower quality [Ingredients] into a superior [Cooked food] = LV%, critical fail chance = 50%/LV. Critical fail creates [Poisoned food]

Effect 3: LV 45+

Effect 4: Unlock the previous effect]

Useful… Help my dad walk the dogs, then when I get back make lunch for myself, read or work on an online class, eat dinner then game until I get tired and go to sleep… rinse and repeat day in and day out. I'm really starting to miss work… to add to the fuckery I took two weeks' holiday that ended a week before the lockdown. It was a very boring week as no bugger wanted to go to the restaurant with the fears of the virus in the air… I didn't like being paid to stand around doing jack shit whilst food got thrown away due to us being told we need to keep stock.

[Class [Chef] added to System: +50% to Cooking. +50% to all knife skills, +2 to INT, WIS, DEX.]

It is definitely fucking with me... "Can't you just check my life and go from there… better than if I just fucking mention something." I grumble as I check the clock… 7:30 AM… still so bloody early.

[Order accepted… scanning… scanning…]

My head felt as if it was splitting open as a loud humming sound started to grow louder reaching a near-deafening crescendo before a ding sounded, reaching up I feel moisture dripping from my nose… checking I found it was blood "Fuck… I'm glad I wasn't any older or that might have killed me."

[Scan complete… processing… extrapolating stats, skills, classes and titles]

"Message received and understood… Time left?" I asked the system.

[1 Hour 40 minutes, 30 minutes were deducted as part of the warning.]

"Damn…" I groused as I headed to the bathroom to grab some essentials and have a quick shower, before heading downstairs… and trying to think of a convincing story for why I wouldn't be coming back.

[Current thoughts are unnecessary, when you are taken to another world a copy will be left to take your place]

"That is both reassuring and horrifying at the same time… I guess that means I can't take my car with me?" I ask as I finish drying myself off.

"Sens-fucking-sational… I spent 5 grand on that fucking thing's engine you know." I growl as I get ready to leave. As I head to the backdoor to get to the car I shout to my parents "Just headed to the shops, I'll be back soon!"

"Be careful!" My mum shouts back.

"Enjoy the queues!" Was my dad's reply.

Ten minutes later

Luckily the queue for Asda was dead, so I grabbed as much dried and tinned goods as I could, before checking the meat and fish sections to get as much of that as I could. The fruit and veg aisle was the last I ransacked as I was more certain of there being vegetation wherever I was sent.

"Could be worse," I growled before a pain unlike any I had previously experienced racked my body. My limbs are shrinking as I de-aged. My greying brown hair darkened as the stress of years was washed away. My throat feels taut as my vocal cords contract and my voice grew higher as I screamed. Scars vanished as they had yet to happen. After what felt like an eternity the pain stopped and I promptly fell on my arse, curling into a ball before shivering in pain.

"Game… Why is this world the first one chosen?" I ask as I shake off the remains of pain from my limbs.

[Tales of Heroes was chosen due to its variability: A mix of Magic and technology whilst still using a variety of combat styles. The other possible worlds that fit in this category were deemed too difficult for a new user of the system, examples include DxDverse; Disgaea; Warhammer both original and 40K variants; Tenchi Muyo; Marvel and DC as well as other such parts of the multiverse. Whilst other game systems believe in a sink or swim type of experience we believe a more structured start will lead to better results… as well as a more stable Player.]

"Then I thank you for your generosity and forethought... " I grumble as I sweat at the thought of being dropped into 40K as an Lv1 scrub, that would be worse than Dark souls simply for the fact you start as a scrub in that verse to begin with.

After ten minutes, that felt a hell of a lot longer, I stood up to survey the area. I was in a field with wheat or other grain-growing plants nearby, with the windmills in the distance I guess that I was near Celdic… so either lower levelled monsters or mid-ranged. I quickly equipped myself with my bike gear and have one of my cooking knives to hand.

Spending a few minutes to get my bearings, I look for the main road, not seeing it. I head in the direction of one of the windmills. Moving through the wheat I keep my eyes peeled for any signs of monsters. A good ten minutes later I reached an opening in the wheat, leading to a clearing but still no road… to make matters worse there were four monsters in the clearing. 4 Poms, I breathed a sigh of relief as Poms were the weakest monster and sadly at the perfect level for the current me. "Let the Grind begin…" I growl as I pull the turning knife out of my inventory to use in my off-hand.

As I move closer the Poms notice me and two charges straight at me. Waiting till one is within stabbing range I skewer it on the longer knife before using it to block its fellow, not wasting any time I lash out with the shorter hooked turning knife in my offhand. The knife's edge tears through the weak Poms hide causing it to slump in short order. 2 down 2 to go.

As I try to get the first pom off my knife, the third Pom rams into my side making me drop the larger knife. Thinking fast I punch the Pom to gain some breathing room before slashing out with my, now only, knife. This finishes the third Pom. leaving me with the fourth and final Pom that starts to make a lot of noise. Knowing that if I don't stop it quickly it would start to gain backup, I run at the final Pom and drive my Turning knife into it snapping the blade off. "Shit!" I curse as I look at the now useless plastic handle in my hand.

As I finally got the first Pom of the larger knife there was rustling from the bushes on the other side of the clearing and another pair of Poms emerged, these larger than the previous four. As soon as they notice me they charge. Acting quickly I pull the first weapon I could think of out of my inventory… which turned out to be the ornamental sword. Not having much of a choice at this point as the Poms were nearly upon me I swung the sword at them hoping to drive them back.

I missed… the sword was so heavy and poorly weighted that it pulled me along with the swing fortunately pulling me out of harm's way. Changing tact I gripped the sword with both hands and waited until the Poms charged again. One of the Poms hesitated whilst the other leapt straight for me. Waiting till the last moment, I swung the sword straight up slamming it into the Pom and killing it, due to the blunt force of the strike. This, unfortunately, left my back wide open for the other Pom to sink its teeth into me.

As the Pom bit my side I screamed in pain and slammed the pommel of the sword on its head… driving its skull into its own brain and its teeth further into my side. Stabbing the sword into the ground I used it as support as I tried to catch my breath. "Status…" I rasp.

"And of course I don't have any crafting skills, other than Cooking, so most of this is useless… let's hope someone wants to buy it or it's getting dumped," I growl as I head back out into the field of wheat towards the tallest Windmill. "Oi, Game why are the Sepith going to be destroyed when I go to another world but the stuff from Earth isn't?" I ask as I push past the first heads of grain.

[Due to the specific structure of the material known as Sepith it is classified as a unique material to this multiversal strain, whilst there are similar analogues to this material, such as Dust from the RWBYverses and the Elemental stones from the Pokeverses, the exact signature of Sepith is tied to the Administrator of this Multiversal chain so can not be taken outside of it.]

"That opens way too many questions than can be dealt with at the moment." I curse as I got my answer… a shame it came with a few landmines attached to it.

All in all not a bad list of skills… I do fear that I brought some very unwelcome attention to myself with the FMA skill though. I'm still kicking myself for not using the fiction adaptation skill from the start though as I would have another set of skills by now, no point crying over spilt milk I suppose. The only other thing I did before moving on was checking how far I had progressed with Fiction Adaptation.

[Fiction Adaptation, Limited: LV 01: EXP 75%]

So 75% after a single round of use… depending on how quick I can level up later that restriction may not be so bad. Now I just need to get to Celdic before I get overwhelmed.

The road leads straight to the town so it should be easy… the only problem being that the roads weren't exactly safe in this world, hell you grind by clearing a map area moving to the next, repeat, then back again. Fortunately, I didn't seem to be past the river that divides the highway so I should be fine monster wise, some dragonflies and a few crop munchers if I'm remembering rightly.

As I hurry down the highway I see my first sign of friendly life, a farmer… the only problem is that she is surrounded by monsters, all of them crop munchers, for a total of 6.

Understood… Now 6 enemies and an escort NPC, what a fun first quest you have given me. I swear if she dies as quick as Natalia I am burning this world down with me.

Creeping forward slowly to avoid attention, as the farmer swings her pitchfork, don't ask me why she is using that in a wheat field rather than a scythe or a sickle, as I get closer I equip my iron sabre and my knife.

[Due to repeated action…

'NOT NOW' I roar in my mind as I slam the knife into one of the crop muncher's heads and decapitate another with my sabre.

At this point the rest of the munchers know I'm here, two split off to charge me as the second pair kept circling the farmer. One of the Munchers facing me bounced at me high as the other swiped its tails at me diving between the two attacks slamming the knife into the back of the lower Crop muncher… this didn't come without cost however as the other that was jumping kicked downwards as I passed it damaging me as it added momentum to my stab.

Only three left, one here two with the NPC… and the knife is one hit away from being scraped, a long crack was running from the hilt to midway up the blade.

[HP: 400/450]

50 Hp from both the kick and the impact with the ground afterwards… the Poms hit for more damage. Lunging forward with the sabre landing a palpable but not fatal hit on the muncher, as I hit it lunges at me teeth bared. Taking a step back I flick the sabre up to slice into the face of the muncher.

2 Left. Dashing to the Farmer I throw my breaking knife, at one of the munchers, and tackle the Farmer to the ground, as the other muncher bounces at her back. "Hello there, nice day isn't it," I say with a grin as I see the knife's blade lodged in the eye of one of the munchers, causing it to scream and flail trying to remove it.

"I've had better!" She shouts as she stabs her pitchfork at the one-eyed muncher. The other gets back up from its failed attack, glaring at us.

"One left…" I growl as I place myself between it and the farmer… "What is your name, lass?"

"Harriet, yourself?" She asked, keeping her pitchfork aimed at the monster.

"Jonathan… Do you know if there are any more around?" I ask as it starts to circle us again, a low hissing growl emanating from it as it does.

"Just those 6 were strange, we are still inside the Orbal Lamps range, there shouldn't be any monsters." She says, shaking slightly as her adrenaline starts to run out.

"We kill this one then we run back to town, sound good?" I ask as the monster snaps at us.

"My family farm is closer... " She whimpers, the monster sensing weakness bounces up towards her ready to bite.

Quick as I can I lash the sabre at its head, knocking it back and blinding it as the blade cut through both of its eyes. The Muncher howled as I followed up the strike and pierced its head, killing it.

"Let me harvest these guys and then we can get on our way," I tell her as I pull out my pocket knife… that is my last unbroken knife, I need to get better gear and fast.

"Are you a hunter?" She asked as she looked away from the grisly work.

"Let's go with that…" I grumble as I start harvesting from the second corpses.

Well in the words of a famous vampire… Omnomnom. Now for the message.

Active Effect 1: +10% damage to sneak attacks

Active effect 2: -20% chance of being spotted by enemies, does not stack with passive effect.

Active effect 3: Locked till Lv 20.]

Stealth is always useful, and that sneak attack multiplier will get insane if it levels with the skill… getting a Bow is going up my to-do list: Reusable ammo and already have a reasonably high-level skill tree, specced for damage rather than crafting like Knife mastery was, add in the sneak damage multiplier on a silent weapon = win!

The walk… Well, running to Harriet's farm was uneventful, meaning an easy escort quest... what an oxymoron. The farm was within spitting distance of Celdic and the large windmill that Machias hid in during the second part of the series. The farm was both a wheat farm, I know obvious to the area but shush, as well as an animal ranch, mainly cattle and chickens.

"Hurry, the monsters come in large numbers at night!" Harriet shouted as she held the gate to the farm open for me. As I cleared the gate she slammed it shut, locking and barring it as she rested back against it with a hand between her breasts as she sighed in relief.

"So… That was fun." I sarcastically quip at her as I dust off my jeans.

"Shut up… we should… get inside…" She panted, as she shot a glare at me, her breasts heaving as she walked to the main farmhouse. "My father and mother will be here so please behave, you can leave in the morning if you are that desperate to sell your wares to the people in Celdic." She adds as she reaches the door opening it to be engulfed in a hug by a woman that can only be her mother.

"Harriet your safe!" The woman cried, and if this is what Harriet would look like when she was older than her partner is definitely going to be a lucky person. An attractive older redhead with some grey scattered through it, tanned due to her helping on the farm and standing a head taller than her daughter but still a good foot shorter than me, she was still dressed in her work clothes with some mud and dust on her soft face clear of wrinkles.

"Mother!" Harriet shrieked as she blushed, glaring at me as I chuckled.

After checking her daughter over, and getting more than a few grumbles and "I'm fine" 's from Harriet, her mother finally noticed I was there. "Oh excuse me where are my manners? May I ask your name young man and why you are here?" The older of the two redheads asked.

"Jonathan Wesson and I was out hunting some monsters before I came across Harriet in a spot of bother, I helped her out and she offered me a place for the night before I continued to the town." I explained with a grin "She told me her mother would be here but not her older sister." This got Harriet glaring at me.

"Oh dear, there seems to be a misunderstanding here. I am her mother. But feel free to call me Heather." She grinned, whilst her daughter glared daggers at me.

"That is not what I meant by behaving," Harriet growled at me as she followed her mother into the house beckoning me to follow.

"You can use the guest room for tonight. Celdic will have closed its gates until tomorrow morning, especially as the monsters have been quite active lately. The Crop Munchers are the worst." Heather said as she showed me to the aforementioned guest room.

A few hours passed as the family invited me to join them for dinner, a nice hearty stew before we all turned in for the night… Well, I say all. 'This should be late enough' I thought as the moon hung high in the sky, getting out of the bed I listened in case anyone is still awake, hearing nothing but soft breathing with an occasional snore I nod.

"Let's take this for a whirl…" I mutter as I use the Instant Dungeon skill to send me to a new training ground. With a muted flash of light, I was gone.

Instant dungeon: Zombie City… for Copyright reasons

As the light fades from my vision I was in a ruined city, fires burning on skyscrapers off on the horizon and burned-out flipped over cars in the streets. A general sense of dread permeated the air as I got my bearings again. Shaking my head to clear the last of the spots from my eyes I heard groaning, coming from an alley off to the side of me.

Turning to face it a zombie shambles out of it, a man with half his face bitten off with his guts hanging out of his side the remains of its ragged suit barely hanging on to it as it lurched onwards. As it reaches the curb it stops and sniffs the air, so not necromantic zombies then, as screeches as it lurches forward towards me… now it is still slow as shit so this wouldn't be too bad if not for the cacophony of screeches that answered him.

"So this just got interesting," I grumble as I grab the sabre out of my inventory and slice the top of the zombie's head off just above his eyes. The zombie slumped forward as it was carried by its momentum, meaning I had to sidestep to avoid it.

10 Mira.]

"This may take a while…" I grumble as I read through the minuscule rewards that the kill gave me. The screeching started again as I heard the slap of feet on pavement slowly but surely getting closer. From the alley, four more zombies lurch out each looking different but in a general state of disrepair, three men and one woman. "Oh okay we are going horde mode then… a marathon not a sprint then."

The woman zombie got to me first being thinner and faster than the other zombies, a slash from the sword dispatched her just as quickly as the others though. The three male zombies however charged me as one offering a very different problem. Jumping backwards I decide that I may as well see how powerful magic is. "Fire!" I growl as a small ball of fire rockets out of my hand and impacts the middle of the zombies detonating and immolating the zombie, as well as separating the two on either side of it, even catching the one on the right of its suit jacket on fire.

Not wasting time as the screeches approaching my position are getting louder and more numerous I leap forwards and try to slice the head off of both zombies at once. I failed, the first zombies head was bifurcated but the sabre got stuck in the second zombies head midway. The remaining Zombie swayed before lashing out with its right arm trying to grab me but only succeeded in scratching me

[425/450 HP]

So they are glass cannons, high Atk but no Hp… I can work with this. Grasping the sword still stuck in the zombies head I throw the entirety of my body weight behind it and slam the zombie down onto the ground, finally bifurcating the monster's head.

All in all not bad rolls, I didn't get exactly what I wanted but the Firearms proficiency may be better in the long term and sort of sorts my problem out… mostly. The rest are more long-term projects other than Acrobatics that will definitely help me out here, the respawn rate for the zombies is not stupid but is still high. I just managed to clear a block so I got a safe zone, ventured into the next one and cleared it went back to rest and found it overrun again… took me three times of doing this taking varying amounts of time to realise that it works much like an old video game map divide does. So as long as I stay in one area the mobs won't respawn like I am doing now.

The problem is I don't know where the boss is, I will be the first to admit I don't like playing Horror games… watching other people play them on the other hand is funny as all hell. The usual trope is either the centre of the dungeon or the other end from where you entered... problem was I didn't know where either of those directions were, I started on a street in the middle of an eastern district and the centre is a burning collection of skyscrapers. For the last 3 hours of fighting, I had been headed in the direction of the skyscrapers, hoping to find some clue.

All of the road signs and any identifying markings on the buildings have been erased, making it very easy to get turned around… especially when you are in a fight. The only landmarks are the burning skyscrapers or any unique buildings that I come across such as the police station that I found around 2 hours in. Strangely there was only one zombie inside a half-eaten policeman with a very stupid blonde haircut… still some better chest armour and the weapons will come in handy the next time I'm here.

With a sigh I call it quits for the night, I wasn't going to find anything for a while or until I could clear the area more efficiently. Activating the return portion of the skill I returned to where I had left.

Celdic Farmstead: 3 AM.

The day had been a long one all told and I doubt I will get much sleep before I wake again but this was only the beginning, once I get into Celdic proper I can buy myself some more weapons and power level for a while… maybe even do some jobs for the mayor and get noticed. I need to get into Thors, either way, I have no intention of being stuck in this world just because Rein copped it against the first boss.

"Game I've been meaning to ask… How do I level up my classes?" I whisper as I strip down to sleep.

[Classes level up as associated skills level up, a Common Class will level up at a rate of 4 Skill levels to 1 Class level. At present you only have Common Classes unlocked, I will however tell you the ratios now so you don't ask me later: Uncommon 8:1; Rare 12:1; Epic 15:1; Legendary 20:1; Unique classes vary as they usually require certain prerequisites to be completed both before unlocking them as well as to improve them, but the best rule of thumb is 30+:1 in addition to their own requirements. Is that everything as I will be Calibrating to improve performance.]

"That's everything Game… I hope when I go to sleep this hasn't all been a dream or something like that." I grumble as I curl up in the bed, conking out as soon as my head hit the pillow.

Author note: Chapter one complete 02/05/21, Not going to post the chapter outside of my first chapters till I have 2 and 3 ready, mainly as I can only write when I am at either time my internet is stable, between 5 AM-11 AM or 9 PM-11 PM, my Parents house or any other reliable Wifi sources… a bit difficult with the current measures here in England.

Ok For anyone who actually reads this, hopefully, someone else does, this is about the system as a whole, but primarily the levelling system: This system is a composite of both the original Gamer source material as well as the collective gestalt that is the Fandom, plus my own little tweaks, with this in mind the levelling system is a little bit different. The initial base level is 100, this is for the first world because let's face it if you need to be higher than a basic level 100 Gamer you are writing it wrong, After each world, the Protag gets the option to reset his level, down to one and lose all of the accumulated stat points and set skill progress to their respective levels to zero in return for doing this the Level cap doubles as does the stat multiplier. This doesn't affect stats given by anything other than levelling.

Stats: With this system, there is no training for stats, each level as a base human the Protag gains 2 stat point in each major stat IE Strength, not Attack, as such when the multiplier kicks in as it is currently at 1 as it is the first world, so on the second world when the protag reaches level 50 they will have higher base stats than a level 99. However, Titles Classes and Skills will also grant stat points dependent on the skill, so don't expect a drawing skill to give Endurance or a sculpting skill to give Luck. Also going forwards some Classes will drop Skills if the right conditions are met, and the same with the inverse obviously. There are going to be some stat-boosting items like Stat crystals from Shiro's stories but with more diminished returns as they will only be in effect for that world.

Going forwards this is the fic that I will be working on as it will allow me to use it as a stress reliever more than Magic Marshal will, as I can put more of myself into it as a way to escape daily life either in lockdown or when I get back to work again.
