Chapter 4
"Thank you for shopping at Walmart," Nick smiled. "I hope you have a good day"
His shift couldn't end soon enough, a job was a job though. It wasn't a career, it just paid the bills. He needed something to live on while he waited for his fall semester to start at the local university. He took a year off school after he graduated just to help out his Mom and save up money for school but starting this fall he would be going to college.
After not turning in his Science project, he'd been forced to retake his senior year, but that had been the least of his worries. That year had gone by in a blurr, worried they had spent most of that time looking for Tyler and praying he was alright. They got an anonymous letter a few days after he went missing saying that Tyler was alright but for our own safety he couldn't come home. That hadn't quelled their fears at all. Though it was a relief to know that Tyler was alive. If anything it reaffirmed Nick's suspicions that the agency had him.
Nick let out a sigh as he closed the door of his pickup. The same pickup he'd run into that UFO with what feels like a lifetime ago.
Nick let out a sigh as he pulled the truck into gear.
It had been two years ago, since his baby brother went missing.
Tears pricked at Nick's eyes. Tyler would be sixteen now.
It was dusk out and between the glare on the windshield and the tears in his eyes it made navigating the old dirt road difficult. The same dirt road.
Nick had to do a double take as a frightfully familiar flash appeared in the sky as a small flying spacecraft came hurtling toward his car, almost like a dashavoo. Slamming on his brakes, Nick was white knuckling it as he backed up the dirt road to give the UFO space to land.
It can't be! It can't be!
Shaking Nick wasted no time in jumping out of his truck and dashing toward the shapecraft his heart hammering in his throat.
It looked exactly like the same UFO he and his baby brother had found on this road nearly two years ago.
"You gotta be kidding me" A humorous laugh fell out of Nick's mouth as he approached the ship. He set his foot into the side of the craft, the kick making no damage.
"It's not fair!" he yelled at the ship. "We never should have taken you in the first place! You caused nothing but trouble" balling his fist tight Nick fought back tears. Rubbing his face with his sleeve he pulled out his cell, "how's it you escaped hugh? From whoever took you"
Nick jumped back at the sound of a loud whoosh as the top of the craft opened.
Nick dropped his phone as he stared in shock at the face he never thought he'd see again. His brother looked exactly the same as the day he lost him. Well maybe not exactly he wasn't dressed as a pirate and he had a few scars but he looked as though he hadn't aged a day!
"Nick" and before he could even register what was happening Tyler's arms were wrapped around his shoulders squeezing him tight.
Nick slowly wrapped his arms around Tyler, his shock subsiding as he realized that Tyler was real. He was real. He was alive and real!
Nick buried his face in his baby brother's long brown curls, tears sliding down down his face as he sobbed. He felt his brother start to cry as he hugged him back just as tight.
"Nick!" Tyler's voice was teary. "I was so afraid I'd never see you again. But it's safe now, they're all gone, we double checked, triple checked no more bases we can all go home now"
Nick had no idea what his baby brother was talking about, but it didn't matter. He'd get the whole story later, at home with their mother. He would have Tyler tell them everything, and he'd listen this time.
"It's okay Ty" he stroked his brother's hair. "Your home now. You're safe."
Distantly he heard a humming sound, instinctively he swung his brother around away from the noise. He watched with wide eye as the UFO lit up and started to hover.
"Goodbye old friend, take care" Tyler grinned through tears.
"Where's it going?"
"Home. It's job is done, Earth is safe. It gets to home now, too"
With that the small spacecraft took off into the night. Leaving the Skywalkers behind, its mission complete.
Nick shook his head, turning back to make sure that 'yes this is real, his brother is actually safe.'
"Come on Nick" Tyler's eyes were still on the sky he looked over at his older brother. "Let's go home"
A little ficlet that wouldn't leave me alone after watching the Disney Movie.
If you've never seen Skyrunners, the 2009 movie I would recommend. :)
I know this isn't very good, like I said late at night writing because I have writer's block.
