Kyoko and Makoto stood outside the Headmaster's office. Kyoko had visited the facility room before class had started to tell her teacher that she and Makoto would be late for class as they had something important to discuss with the Headmaster.

"Kirigiri be honest with me," Makoto said nervously. "Who is going to kill me first, your father or my mother?"

"The way you spoke about last night, I believe it would be your mother. I think my father leave your ears ringing. No correction. He will leave both our ears ringing."

"Don't you have a grandfather as well?" Makoto asked.

"Yes," she sighed. "I look forward to telling him as well," she said sarcastically. "I look up to my grandfather, he is a great detective, and I want to become like him. But he will be filled with shame once he finds out."

"Kirigiri, we will figure something out," Makoto said, taking his hand into hers. "You will become a detective, I promise you. I will not let your dream die because of our stupidity."

Kyoko smiled back at him. "Thank you, Naegi. I promise you to help whatever dream you had."

"Well," Makoto replied as he began to blush. "I'm already living my dream."

"What is it?"

"I'm dating the most beautiful in the world."

Kyoko began to blush, and she let out a small chuckle. "Well, I won't be beautiful when I'm pushing out the child."

"Everything will be worth it in the end," Makoto said upbeat. "Providing I can survive the day, that is. Come on, let's face this together."

Makoto knocked on the door.

"Come on!" Jin shouted.

Makoto opened the door. He allowed Kyoko to walk in first. Then he followed her, closing the door behind him.

"Kyoko?" Jin said, confused. He was sitting at his desk. "Why are you here? You should be in class."

"Father," Kyoko said calmly, but inside, she was a nervous wreck. "There is something we need to talk about, and it's very important."

Kyoko and Makoto walked up to the desk, and both feared the worst.

Jin looked at Kyoko and Makoto. "If this is about dating, then young man has my consent. Kyoko, you're smart enough to pick and choose the right man. I have little input for this." Jin looked at Makoto. "However, all I will ask is that you treat my daughter with love and care."

"Yes, sir," Makoto said.

"Good, right, you two better get to class."

"Father!" Kyoko said firmly. Then she began to shake her head. "I need you to remain calm ok."

"How?" Jin said, confused. "What is going on?"

"I'm…" Kyoko said, but she froze.

"Sir, I got your daughter pregnant," Makoto said, and he tensed up, waiting for whatever Jin was going to throw at him.

"You got Kyoko pregnant?" Jin said with a mixture of horror and disbelief. "HOW!"

Kyoko and Makoto both jumped.

"Please tell me this is a joke?" Jin said as he looked at the pair with demanding eyes.

"No, father, we are not. We were careless," Kyoko sighed.

Jin leaned back in his chair. "What the hell are you two going to do? You're still only 17 years old."

"Naegi turned 18 this month," Kyoko replied.

"Correction, only one of you are 17!" Jin said as he began to rub his face with his hands. "I thought you were smarter than this, Kyoko. What are you going to do with the child?"

"Naegi and I have agreed to look after the baby. We had three options, and we agreed to pick one."

"But, you both don't have jobs. How on earth are you two going to look after this child?"

"We will work something out," Kyoko said calmly. "We could have easily gone for the abortion route or giving up the child to adoption. But Naegi and I didn't want that. This is our mess, and we will try and fix it."

"How many weeks are you in?"

"Three," Kyoko replied.

"THREE!" Jin said, alarmed. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

"Because Makoto was out of the country on holiday when I found out last week, and I wanted him to know before I told anyone else."

"Ok," Jin said, taking a deep breath. "You will be due an ultrasound in three weeks."

"I know, I'm doing a lot of research," Kyoko said. "Father, I need just one thing from you."

"And that is?"

"I need to be exempt from taking part in P.E lessons."

"Fine, I will speak to the teacher," Jin replied. "So Naegi, is that your last name correct?"

"Yes, sir," Makoto said nervously. "My name is Makoto Naegi."

"Well then, Makoto Naegi, you better be a good man to my daughter, and you better help her every step of the way. Or else."

Makoto gulped and nodded.

"Father!" Kyoko said, shocked. "Don't act like that. You're not helping Naegi's mental state."

"Oh, I'm sorry, but I'm bloody annoyed with what I've heard," Jin replied. "How else am I meant to act?"

"Try being a loving father and not an overprotective one by issuing little threats to my boyfriend!"

"Sir," Makoto said. "You can say anything you want to me. I deserve it if you are going to be angry. Aim that anger at me and not your daughter. I don't want Kirigiri to be under any pressure that might harm the child."

Jin took a big breath and shook his head. "No, you're right, Naegi, me being angry won't help anyone's mental states here. Sorry, I'm struggling to cope with all the information. Kyoko, have you told your grandfather yet?"

"No, I haven't. You are the first to know."

"Ok, I will speak to him. You help Naegi tell his family."

"Are you sure, father?" Kyoko asked. "Because Naegi and I were going to tell everyone together."

"No, it's best if I spoke to my father. I haven't had a chat with him in a while. Right, you two should get to class. I will keep in touch."

Makoto and Kyoko quickly left while Jin looked at a photo that sat on his desk. He picked it up. It was a picture of a younger Kyoko.

A tear rolled down Jin's face. "Kyoko is going to become a mum. She isn't my baby daughter anymore. Where has the time gone?"

Hours later

Makoto and Kyoko were in the former's dorm room. The pair were sitting on the bed with Makoto holding his phone.

"Take as long as you need," Kyoko said, rubbing his shoulder.

"Can I wait until you give birth?" Makoto said, looking at Kyoko.

"No," Kyoko said bluntly. "I think that would cause more problems if you turned home after I give birth with a child in your arms."

"Yeah," Makoto chuckled. "I think my mum would faint. Right, let's get this done and over with."

He phoned his mother and put the call on loudspeaker.

"Hello, Makoto, how is my baby boy getting on?" Mrs Naegi chirped.

Kyoko looked at Makoto and tried not to laugh.

Makoto's face grew red. "Yeah, I'm doing ok, mum. Is father there? I need to speak to you both."

"We are together in the living room with Komaru. Why are you on loudspeaker, Makoto?"

"I'm with my girlfriend and-"

"Girlfriend! Who is she? She better be treating my baby boy correctly."

"MUM!" Makoto said loud. "Stop, please. You're embarrassing me."

"No way, did you say that Makoto had a girlfriend?" Komaru said in the background.

"Mum, can you please put your phone on loudspeaker? There is something I need to talk to you and dad."

"Ok, now what button is it? Komaru, help me, please."

A few seconds later, the phone was on loudspeaker.

"That's us, son," Mr Naegi said. "Now, was it that you wanted to talk about?"

"Naegi, let me introduce myself first," Kyoko whispered.

Makoto nodded to her.

"Hello, Mr and Mrs Naegi, my name is Kyoko Kirigiri, and I attend the same class as your son."

"Kirigiri?" Mrs Naegi said. "Are you related to Fuhito Kirigiri, that wonderful detective who keeps our streets clean?"

"I am, Mrs Naegi. I aim to follow in his footsteps and become a detective myself."

"Oh, son," Mr Naegi said, beaming with delight. "You've got yourself a keeper there."

"Dad, please stop!" Makoto said, shaking his head. "I need you and mum to remain calm ok. Kirigiri and I have big news we need to tell you."

"You've gotten Kirigiri pregnant, haven't you, bro?" Komaru said jokingly.

There was a silence.

"Makoto?" Komaru said nervously. "I was only kidding, by the way."

"Kirigiri is pregnant," Makoto sighed, and he wasn't ready for what was about to come.

"WHAT!" Mrs Naegi roared. "Makoto Naegi, explain yourself right now!"

"My class held a small party for me turning 18, and well, one thing led to another-"

"Oh, I'm sure it did! Tell me, how do you plan to get yourself out of this mess?"

"Kirigiri and I plan to have the child and raise it ourselves. It's the only right thing to do, we have spoken about different options, which was the best one. We both felt it was unfair for us to kill the child through abortion or give the child away after birth."

Makoto and Kyoko could hear Mrs Naegi letting a massive sigh.

"So, what are your plans moving forward?" Mr Naegi asked.

"We are not sure yet. We wanted to tell all family members first. Then we will make plans from there. I believe the first ultrasound is due in three weeks."

"Three weeks?" Mr Naegi said, surprised. "But that would mean your girlfriend is already three weeks pregnant… Calm down, dear, please. We will talk after this phone call is finished-"

Much to Makoto's horror, the phone call ended.

"Well then," Kyoko said slowly.

"I'm so dead," Makoto replied, horrified.
