Authors Note: Uh... later update than anticipated, but I was more or less just busy entertaining myself and neglecting this, until I had an, "I need to do that" moment. Guess it's perfect that today is also Subarus special day! This chapter might not be great, so I, as always, request any critique you may hold.

In the dark trenches of a dark haired, scary-eyed boys mind, unthinkable pasts were beheld.

Laying on the ground in a pitch black building with a split open stomach, telling the girl who'd been struck down alongside him that he'd save her.

A knife in his back, his mind coming to a realization that would change his life forever.

Waking to familiar faces, despite his being new to them.

Arm torn off as he bled out, wailing in pain, before his skull was caved in by someone possessing immense physical strength.

Tortured for a crime he had never committed by one he had considered a friend, and then killed after he poured his heart and soul open to the unforeseen assailant.

Mangled by his own actions, having jumped off the cliffside to have another chance at fixing the horrible present.

Frozen solid, dying along with everyone he cared for in this twisted world.

Beheaded in a white wasteland, his corpse still clinging onto the girl who would sacrifice her all just for him.

Forced to ask those, who he had finally come to consider friends, to kill him, so that he could change the outcome of a battle already lost.

A deep neck wound, inflicted upon ones self who was unable to see past their rising guilt, despair, and helplessness, in an attempt to save one who they love.

Dying alone in the place he called home, tormented once again by the killer he'd met his first day in this new world.

Stabbed in the gut once again, this time with the betrayal of a familiar spirit stuck on the forefront of his mind.

His hand disappears with a flash of white, and, as he looks around in pain and horror, the Great Rabbit is upon him, tearing every morsel of flesh apart for itself, for it's gluttony, and it was everywhere, Everywhere, EVERYWHERE.

Beatrice reels back, grabbing her head in her hands. Her mind was spinning, as memories that were not her own threatened to overtake her. She couldn't understand the horrible scenes that had played in front of her, as they didn't make any level of logical sense. Subaru couldn't have died, as he was right in front of her after all... She simply whimpered, curling up into herself as she shakes, trying to wipe the fresh image of her contractors mirrored self dying over and over from her mind.

"Beatrice?" Emilia gently said, moving forward to question the spirit. The actions she were seeing were worrying, but shouldn't be left alone, at least from her perspective. "Is something wrong? Can you tell us what you saw?"

Otto and Garfiel simply observed uneasily, as the prideful Great Spirit wasn't very attuned with them, which wasn't saying much saying they weren't Subaru, but Emilia was still a better candidate to try and get anything, rather than them.

For a moment, the Great Spirit is completely unresponsive, giving no sign of even having heard anyone speak to her.

Then, after a moment, she simply looked at the half-elf with wide, tear filled eyes, opening her mouth for a moment, before closing it due to the lack of sound coming out. Glancing at Subaru, she takes a deep breath, and grabs his hand for personal reassurance, letting herself know that he was, indeed, still there. And she may not understand it, but she knows what she saw.

"In his memories... I saw that... S-Subaru di-"

Everything suddenly froze. Garfiel and Otto didn't so much as budge, and Emilias gaze remained in one place. Beatrice found herself unable to inhale or exhale, and her body was left completely immobile.

Despite the room not changing in size, a feeling of claustrophobia was seemingly overwhelming, as the very air seemed to be thick with a terrifying energy she could neither see or fathom. Darkness, thick and potent, flooded the room, emanating from Subaru himself.

Slowly, a shadowy hand reached for her. As it found its way to her chest, and it slithered through her skin like it was never there at all, she felt it seemingly grab onto her very soul. A lone, shadowy figure became visible in front of her, and it felt like her very being was about to shatter into a million pieces, as the hand seemed to squeeze tighter and tighter each second, her vision swimming in and out of existence.

Then, as suddenly as the sensation came, it disappeared, the pressure being alleviated. Still unable to move, she could only simply stare as the unknown figure approached her, their appearance still being hidden from her eyes.

"Save... him..."

W-what? What do they mean?

"Natsuki Subaru... please... help him."

...And as suddenly as they appeared, they were gone. The world started to move like normal again, but Beatrice felt her consciousness slip from under her, as the dark abyss became the only thing visible to her...

"Beatrice!?"

...

Shakily, the eyes of the spirit open, her mind quickly noting the situation was a bit similar to when her contractor woke up, except the three loud mouths being strangely absent. Warmly, she snuggled further into the enormous pillow known as Subaru, choosing to remain a temporary parasite.

Upon further inspection a couple minutes later, a note was noticed off to the side, which she quickly took and read to herself.

In crude and barely legible handwriting, "That bastard Roswaal forced mines self to help out with some stuff, so the damn spirit can sort you out for now, cap'n."

In a very formal and genuinely neat style, "Sorry Natsuki-san, duty calls sometimes... but we definitely need to resolve this conversation soon, we're here for you as always."

In a cutesy and almost bubbly type of handwriting, she finally read the lengthier message, "Sorry Subaru, but Roswaal came and scolded me while I was sitting in here, saying I couldn't spend all day here as as a future candidate. While I really wanna stay, I have my tasks to assume. Beatrice, we aren't sure what happened to you, but we made sure you were alright. When you awake, consider trying to talk to Subaru. He's much more likely to open up to you, and even I can't help but feel a tad bit jealous."

Beatrice, upon reading this all, can't help but feel a tad bit aggravated for a moment, but quickly cools down in a understanding that they all have important things to attend to, even if she believes the current situation at hand is more important. The comments after may have also helped alleviate this annoyance, but she'd never admit that out loud, after all. However, it was quite curious that Roswaal seemed to actively chase everyone out however, it was unlike him to be so meddling in a fragile situation, and she had half a mind to go and storm into his study, and question him.

However, speaking of the situation... she still can't make sense of what she witnessed. Someone doesn't simply die and come back, as she'd surely remember some of these things if they had happened. But... they were also real memories. Something like this was unprecedented, and she surely needed to get to the bottom of this situation, even if her stubborn contractor was going to keep on refusing to speak any words that were the truth.

And, with a new found resolve, Beatrice sought out to awaken the boy next to her, in search of answers to an impossible question.
