Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of Waves of Woe. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I don't own Steven Universe. Rebecca Sugar and a few others do.

Howlite was right about the fact that there were primitives around the area. The first one arrived, a tangle of disjointed limbs like one of those Earthly creatures.

What was that creature called with 8 legs? Ah, Howlite recalled it was known as an arachnid in the gem database. The blood red creature turned; a dozen eyes set in its face. Howlite watched as the creature waved a stony spear around.

"Hunter gatherers." Howlite said as he looked at Lapis who took cover behind the rock with him. "There's more. I know the pack will be bigger." Howlite muttered said as he deactivated his visor.

"Are they coming closer?" Lapis asked and got a nod.

"Yes, their inspecting our defenses." Howlite stated as he reached towards his gem.

They were coming, Howlite knew that. He turned to Lapis again, she seemed indifference about her work when it was terraforming.

Now? She seemed scared. Not that Howlite blamed her, he knew nothing about these creatures. He didn't know their tactics, unit composition. Anything that could help him deal with this problem.

"Stay here." Howlite stated to Lapis and started to stand back. He knew for a fact that they were going to be dangerous. They were an obstacle that had to be removed.

"I will face them and deal with them. You stay here for now and wait for me." Howlite put in as he started to draw his weapon from his gem.

Lapis watched as he drew a sickle from his gem. The blood red weapon gleamed in the light as he turned to Lapis.

"You said you wouldn't go too far." Lapis stated as Howlite hummed and turned to look at her.

"I won't," Howlite stated. "But I need to neutralize them so they aren't a danger to you." Howlite added while he began to spin his weapon in his hand.

Howlite noticed Lapis frowning which caused him to shake his head. He reached out and grabbed her arm gently.

"I will return… It is your safety I'm concerned about." Howlite added to Lapis as he rose up. "Just stay here for the moment and then come out when I say." Howlite said as he drew another sickle from his gem.

"Stay put at the moment…" Howlite said as he vaulted over the rock and then started forwards towards the natives.

He could see them turn towards him as he spun the sickles in his hands. He wasn't going to let them hurt Lapis if he could help it.

However? He knew just how dangerous they could be… Or rather? He had somewhat of an idea when he thought about it.

"Grrmm…" Howlite heard as one of the natives turned towards him. "Gmmn." Howlite heard as one of them raised their spear.

Howlite sidestepped the spear as it flew overhead and impaled itself in the ground. He turned and looked to the side as 3 more of the natives appeared from cover. Howlite shook his head back and forth in annoyance.

"Leave, I will not ask again." Howlite stated to himself as he turned and spun the sickles. "This doesn't have to end in violence." Howlite added as he shook his head in annoyance at the problem which caused him to sigh.

Howlite watched one of the creatures rush him as he sighed. He sidestepped the creature before bringing his sickle down into the creature's head. The creature was smashed into the ground by the force of the weapon.

Howlite sighed and turned to greet another. Perhaps they could have been talked down. He wanted to persuade them from this, the diamond's conquest of the planet didn't require slaughter. Least, he thought so.

Howlite blocked a spear aimed at his head. Perhaps he could pretend that fight would be ended without further loss of life.

Howlite hummed and spun, twisting his sickle through the wooden spear. He smashed his fist into the creature, throwing it into the air as another lunged at him. Howlite was thrown to the ground as he grunted.

More of the natives descended on him as he felt his sickle get thrown to the side. He looked at the creatures who were trying to claw at him.

Lapis looked out at him while blinking. Howlite kicked one of the natives away as he grunted. Howlite swung his sickle, cutting one of the spiders like creatures.

Lapis looked at the water as Howlite backed away, the creatures chasing him down as he leapt onto a rock.

Lapis waved her hands which caused the water to rise up. Howlite turned which allowed another creature to tackle him to the ground. He shook his head.

Lapis brought her hands down, smashing the water into the creatures and Howlite. Howlite was washed away, as was the creatures. He looked at Lapis as he hummed and then turned to see the creatures scuttling away.

"I… Thank you." Howlite said as he blinked and brushed off his arms. "Those creatures might return. I would suggest that we leave for now." Howlite said as Lapis nodded.

"Are you ok?" Lapis questioned which was greeted with a nod. "I'm sorry, I just… Reacted." Lapis put in as Howlite hummed and shook the water off.

"It's… Fine?" Howlite questioned with a raised eyebrow. "That was a… Creative use of your abilities to drive them off." Howlite said and crossed his arms.

He couldn't understand why Lapis sounded so… He believed it was conflicted? Howlite was still learning the meaning of words, he wasn't a Peridot. He didn't understand several of the sentences that left his mouth.

"Are you ok?" Lapis asked as she helped Howlite to his feet once more as he turned to her.

"Yes, they didn't get my gem." Howlite said as he ran a finger over his gem. "However? I do not know for certain if they will return. We should depart while their busy collecting reinforcements for another assignment." Howlite said as he rested his hands on his hips.

He knew there was a big possibility that they'd come back. Howlite knew that he'd deal with them as best he could if he had to.

Howlite looked at Lapis who was busy looking around. She was busy thinking of what to do next.

He didn't know they'd be leaving soon enough. The next stop would be a world where only the diamonds knew.

Howlite could only hum and brush his hands on his hips. He knew for a fact that someone would be along shortly.

There was so many questions going thorough his head. So many unanswered questions that had to be answered sooner or later.

Perhaps they'd be answered on Earth.
