Chapter 4: Adventuring
Nigun groans as his eyes open, "Where am I?"
"Ah, you are awake."
Nigun turns his head to see Michael standing nearby.
"My name is Michael, I am a servant of Lord Azazel."
Nigun blinks, "Lord Azazel?"
His eyes widen as he remembers the powerful angel, "You mean that angel we faced?"
Michael nods, "Yes, my lord brought you here because he took an interest in you."
"Follow me."
Nigun gains a worried look as he follows after Michael, 'What could such a powerful being want with me?'
Michael leads Nigun into the garden, with the blonde man marveling at how beautiful and lush the garden is. As he looks around, Nigun takes notice of Azazel himself standing under a tree.
Michael kneels, "My lord, I have brought the human as you have asked."
Azazel hums, "Very good, leave us."
"Yes my lord."
Michael leaves, but not before giving Nigun a threatening glare, as if warning him against taking any action that would harm Azazel.
Azazel turns to Nigun, "I'm sure you have questions."
Nigun gulps, "Yes…"
"If I might ask…why did you spare me?" "You and the other two with you seemed hell-bent on killing me and my men."
Azazel tilts his head, "Walk with me."
Azazel leads Nigun through the garden, "You are correct in that my brethren and I wanted to kill you."
"But, I found myself intrigued by the fact that you had angels on your side and the nature of your magic that I am all too familiar with."
He turns to Nigun, "I find you to be rather interesting and I want you to join me."
Nigun's eyes widen in shock, "But…why?"
"What could I offer you?"
Azazel smiles, "You'd be surprised."
"You must understand Nigun; my brethren and I are not from this world."
Nigun's eyes widen, "There are other worlds out there?"
Azazel nods, "We come from a world known as IRL."
"Our world was a paradise, beautiful beyond compare." "My fellow angels and I lived in a place known as the Golden City."
Nigun nods, "I think I understand, but why did you come here?"
Azazel adopts a sad look, "Over time, our world was lost."
"Our world was plunged into endless war, with the environment suffering as a result." "My brethren and I fought in this war, hoping to save what was left of our world."
He sighs, "But our effort was for naught."
"Despite our best efforts, we couldn't stop the end of IRL." "The three of us, along with 38 others, left our world and came to the world of Yggdrasil." "There we banded together and formed a guild that gained infamy throughout the entire world."
He frowns, "But even this did not last."
"One by one, our brethren left Yggdrasil, with many returning to IRL while others left for other worlds." "We refused to leave, this was our home, we couldn't just leave it." "Eventually, Yggdrasil also came to reach its end." "We chose to remain until the world died, not caring what happened to ourselves."
He smiles, "Imagine our surprise that we find ourselves in yet a brand new world."
He turns to Nigun, "Understand this; this time we intend to stay."
"This time we will have a home of our own."
Nigun is speechless for a moment as he takes in the words of Azazel.
Suddenly, he falls to his knees and bows his head, "I understand."
"I swear that I will serve you, my lord."
Azazel hums, "Good, I am expecting much from you."
Azazel leads Nigun through the tomb until they reach the throne room, where Ainz and Set are waiting for them.
Ainz's eyes flash, "Well?"
Nigun walks up to the throne and kneels, "I swear to serve you my lords."
"I will do whatever is you need from me."
Ainz's eyes flash, "I see."
"We need information on this world, if we are to make it our home."
Nigun nods, "Yes my lord."
Nigun explains the history of the Slane Theocracy and its Six Gods that they worship. The three players all turn to each other and have their own silent conversation.
Ainz, 'There's no doubt about it; players have been to this world before.'
Azazel, 'You're right, but how did they get here?'
Set, 'Not only that, but why were they in the past?'
Azazel turns to Nigun, "Would it be possible for us to get a copy the history of these gods?"
Nigun frowns, "It will not be easy my lord."
"The elders of the Theocracy have the teachings and records completely under lock and key."
Azazel smirks, "So we'll need to pay a visit to the Theocracy before long."
Ainz nods, "Indeed…but for now, let's focus on what our plans are moving forward."
"I have planned on travelling to E-Rantel and take on the role of an adventurer." "This will enable us to gather more information without having to reveal ourselves."
Set nods, "I will head to the capital and do the same there."
"I think it'll probably be better if we split up and cover more ground."
Azazel nods, "That's right, we need to gather as much information we can."
"With that, I was also planning on sending Sebas and Solution to the capital as well."
Azazel hums, "In that case, I will head to the Empire and set up shop there."
"I can perhaps get on the inside with the nobility."
He turns to Nigun, "Nigun, do you know of any strong Martial Arts users we could capture for study?"
Nigun scratches his chin, "Well, there are a number of possible candidates."
"But…I would have to say Brain Unglaus." "From the stories I've heard; he is said to be a rival of Gazef Stronoff."
Ainz hums, "I shall send Shalltear and her brides to capture this Brain and bring him back to the Tomb."
Set lifts his hand, "Wait."
"When you get him, I want him."
Azazel raises an eyebrow, "Has something got your attention?"
Set grunts, "You've proven that people from this world can be brought to our side."
"I want to see if I can do the same."
Ainz nods, "Very well."
So, the group splits up and heads off for their specific tasks, while Nigun returns to the Theocracy; acting as a spy for Nazarick.
Ainz dons his blue armor to act as a disguise and plays the role of a warrior. He is not alone, travelling with Narberal, who will act as his companion/bodyguard. Ainz takes on the identity of Momon, while Narberal calls herself Nabe.
Set takes on a human form to blend in the people of the Capital. In his disguise, he stands at the same height of Azazel and has tan skin, long red hair with yellow eyes, and is shirtless, with leather pants and sandals. His torso is covered in Egyptian style tattoos and equips himself with an ornate kopesh and small shield. Overall, he resembles an older male version of Beta.
Azazel takes on the form a nobleman that is extremely wealthy, while also skilled in crafting beautiful artifacts. His angels take on the role of his servants/vassals. He heads off towards the Empire and sets up a position of a noble that sells artifacts that he has forged.
In E-Rantel, Ainz and Narberal walk down the street towards the guildhall, drawing attention from people walking the streets around them. Ainz and Narberal open the door of the guildhall, drawing whispers from everyone inside.
"Check out that armor."
"Forget the armor, look at those swords on his back."
"That girl is gorgeous."
Ainz merely ignores the comments, while Narberal's eye twitches in irritation.
Ainz walks up to the front desk, "Excuse me."
The girl at the desk smiles at him, "Yes, how can I help you?"
Ainz hums, "My comrade and I would like to register as adventurers."
The girl nods, "Of course, I just need you to pay the registration fee and fill out a few forms."
Ainz groans at the sight of a copper plate, making the girl wave her hand in an attempt to calm him down, "I'm sorry for this, but rules are rules."
"Everyone has to start at the copper level."
Ainz sighs, "I understand."
After getting their adventurer plates, Ainz and Narberal head for the tavern in order to hold up the illusion that they are normal humans. In the tavern, Ainz ends up having to teach some thugs a lesson. He also ends up unintentionally pissing off a girl with red hair and tanned skin. He manages to calm her down by giving a low-level healing potion.
Ainz sighs as he and Narberal sit in their room, "That was tedious."
Narberal turns to him, "Why did you give that human a potion, my lord?"
Ainz removes his helmet, "We are meant to be adventurers and work with our fellow man."
"We have a reputation to uphold."
Narberal bows her head, "I didn't think of that my lord."
"You truly are magnanimous."
Concurrently, Set sits in a carriage with Shalltear, her brides, Solution and Sebas.
Shalltear smirks as she files her pinky nail, "Well now, our little fly has taken the bait?"
Sebas nods, "That is correct."
Shalltear smirks, "It's about time."
Set grunts, "Don't forget, Shalltear; he belongs to me."
Shalltear bows her head, "Of course my lord."
She blushes, "My lord, if I might ask you a question?"
Set hums, "Yes?"
Shalltear fidgets, "Lupusregina told me that you've had two wives."
Set sighs, "Yes."
Shalltear smirks, "You have children, so you must have plenty of experience in bed."
Set deadpans at her, while Sebas facepalms and Solution giggles behind her hand.
Set groans, 'Not really.'
He calms down, "Yes."
He eyes her critically, "What exactly are you trying to imply Shalltear?"
Shalltear fidgets, "I was hoping that you'd have some advice for me to seduce Lord Ainz."
Set blinks for a moment, before cupping his chin, "Well…first of all; Ainz is a skeleton."
"So he doesn't have the equipment or drive to do such things."
Shalltear freezes as if she's been shocked, before slumping down in depression.
Set smirks, "But you leave that to me and Azazel."
Shalltear looks up at him with a hopeful look.
"Azazel is currently working a little project." "If it works, Ainz will be able to have a flesh and blood body to participate in such activities."
Set pats her head, "So don't worry, you'll have your chance to bed my dear friend in no time."
Shalltear gains a megawatt smile, "Thank you, my lord."
Set frowns, "I know you have questions Sebas."
Sebas bows his head, "Forgive me my lord, but you are familiar with the other Supreme Beings and their workings."
Set nods, "Yes, and?"
"I was wondering my lord, do you know why Lady Shalltear and Lady Aura do not seem to get along?"
Set chuckles, "Ah, that."
"Well you see, Peroroncino and Bukubukuchagama were actually siblings."
Sebas' eyes widen, "I wasn't aware of this."
Set nods, "Bukubukuchagama always believed that a younger brother should listen to his older sister."
"Which of course is why Aura and Mare's relationship is the way it is."
Suddenly, the carriage screams to a halt.
Set sighs, "Well, looks like we'll have to put our discussion on hold."
This causes the NPC's to scowl in anger at having their conversation being interrupted.
Shalltear stands up and opens the door of the carriage, revealing a large group thugs all leering and laughing at her. One of the thugs tries to grope Shalltear, causing the small vampire to slice off his hand, followed by his head. This causes the group to panic, before Shalltear's vampire brides to descend on the group, tearing them into pieces. In all the commotion, Solution manages to consume their carriage's driver.
Set turns to Shalltear who walks up to him, "Anything?"
Shalltear bows her head, "I've got this Brain's last known location."
"My brides and I shall capture him and bring him to you my lord."
Set nods, "Good."
He puts a hand on her shoulder, "Shalltear, do not take any unnecessary risks."
"If you get hurt or do something reckless, I'm going to be very disappointed."
Shalltear shivers at his tone, "Yes, my lord."
Set climbs into the carriage, "Let's continue."
Everyone bows her head, "Yes, my lord."
Set, Sebas and Solution manage to reach the Capital, where they set up shop in a manor purchased by Sebas, in order to take on the appearance of a Clan that has come from a far off country.
Currently sitting in the guildhall is the Blue Roses, an all-female team of adventurers that have managed to reach the highest rank of Adamantite. They had just finished a high-paying quest and have stopped in at the guildhall for a drink. Suddenly, everyone turns to the sound of the door opening to see Set walk into the guildhall. Many of the female members of the guild blush at his bare torso, along with his toned physique.
Set walks up to the desk, making the guild girl blush and stammer, "Can I help you?"
Set hums, "I would like to register as an adventurer."
The girl shakes her head, "Of course."
She pulls out a form and grabs a pen, "Name?"
Set grunts, "Bayek."
She nods, "Place of birth?"
He frowns, "The desert."
This draws looks from everyone in the guildhall, "I beg your pardon?"
Set sighs, "I was born in the desert."
"No parents."
The guild girl gulps, "I see…"
"So no immediate family?"
Set grunts, "A daughter."
She smiles, "I see, is she here in the Capital?"
He shakes his head, "Not at the moment, I came ahead to secure a home for us."
She nods in understanding, "Very well."
"Alright, everything seems to be in order." "I just need you to pay the registration fee, and you'll be good to go."
Set hands over some coins, but frowns as the Copper plate that is handed to him.
The girl sighs, "I apologize, but all new adventurers have to start at the Copper level."
Set sighs, "I understand."
"If I have to prove myself then so be it."
He thanks the girl and heads over to a table, taking a seat.
Evileye stares at him from a distance, drawing the attention of her teammates.
Gagaran raises an eyebrow, "Is something wrong, Evileye?"
She frowns under her mask, "That man is stronger than he lets on."
Lakyus narrows her eyes, "How can you tell?"
Evileye hums, "Those tattoos aren't normal."
"I can sense a large amount of magic in them."
Tia turns to her, "What level do you think he could be?"
Evileye frowns, "If those tattoos are what I think they are, then he could potentially be at our level."
Tina nods, "You're saying the tattoos might be magical seals."
Evileye nods, "Yes."
She stands up and walks over to him, drawing his attention.
She takes a seat across from him, "Hello there."
Set raises an eyebrow, "Can I help you?"
She pulls out a flier and places it in front of him, "I was wondering if you would be willing to assist me on a job?"
Set frowns, he knows what she is up to, due to his strong sense of hearing picking up her team's conversation. Best to play along, for now.
"I see, what kind of job?"
Evileye nods, "There is a small group of farms nearby that have been terrorized by a large pack of trolls."
Set hums, "Trolls, huh?"
"Haven't tangled with any of them in a while."
He frowns, "But before that, why are you approaching me with this?"
Evileye hums, "I've seen a lot of adventurers come through here."
"Most of these idiots only take on the job because they think they can get rich or famous." "I can tell that you actually know what you're doing."
Set shrugs, "I'm not stupid."
"I understand that this isn't fun and games; we could die at any moment."
Evileye nods, "That's why I'm offering my help."
"I think you can a lot further than these morons."
Set picks up the flyer, "How difficult is this particular quest?"
Evileye hums, "Officially, the job is platinum level."
"If you can complete this job, I believe you can rise up to Mithril level."
Set hums, "Very well."
The two of them stand up and head off towards the job site, while the rest of the Blue Rose Team watches on. Lakyus turns to the twins and signals them to follow Evileye and Set. As the two adventurers walk towards the job site, Set turns towards his companion.
"Can I ask you something?"
She turns to him, "What is it?"
Set hums, "What brings a vampire to join an adventurer team?"
Evileye stiffens starts to reach for her weapon, causing Set to scoff.
"Please, don't be ridiculous." "I know a vampire when I see one."
She blinks, "You've met vampires before?"
Set nods, "I've met a few."
Evileye warily eyes him, "You don't seem very disturbed."
Set hums, "I couldn't care less what you are."
"Do you run around and kill innocent people?"
She shakes her head, "No, of course not."
Set nods, "Then it doesn't matter if you're human or not."
Evileye goes quiet, before smiling, "I see."
Set raises an eyebrow, "Can I ask about the mask thing though?"
Evileye sighs, "I just feel much more comfortable with the mask on."
Set shrugs, "Whatever, not my problem."
They continue towards the farm, where they find a pile of men's bodies being burned by a group of knights.
The leader of the knights greets them, "Ah, Lady Evileye, I wasn't expecting you."
He looks around, "Are you alone?"
She shakes her head, "I have a friend with me."
The knight groans, "Great, a useless copper plate."
The other knights all chuckle, but are silenced by the leader having Set's kopesh against his throat.
"I could kill you and your entire unit before you can blink."
The group is silent, before the leader grins, "Not bad."
"Sorry about that, didn't mean to offend you."
Set shrugs, "No problem."
He points towards a large hole in the side of hillside, "I'm guessing they're in there?"
The knight nods, "They've captured all the women and are using them as breeding tools."
Set frowns, "Is that so?"
He turns to Evileye, "Let's get this over with."
He and Evileye head into the tunnel and they follow the sounds of women screaming in the distance.
Set frowns, "If I get a little murderous, don't blame me."
Evileye draws her weapon, "Not at all."
They eventually come to an open area, where they witness the sight of a group of women being violated by a pack of trolls, while their friends laugh and cheer them on.
Evileye growls, "Bastards!"
Set pulls out his kopesh and shield, "Alright, let's go."
The two adventurers jump into action and start slaughtering the trolls, drawing the attention of the women, who start screaming for help. It doesn't take too long for the two adventurers to kill all the trolls. Set keeps a look out as Evileye attends to the women. Suddenly, they hear the sound of squealing in the tunnels and the scrambling of feet.
Set turns to Evileye, "Get them out of here."
Evileye frowns, "You can't seriously be considering this."
Set cracks his neck, "Someone's got to cover your escape."
Evileye shakes her head, "You're going to die, you know that right?"
Set smiles, "Maybe, but that's what makes it fun."
Evileye shakes her head and leads the women out of the tunnel while Set smirks and holds his kopesh at the ready as the sounds of the trolls start becoming louder and closer.
"My lord."
He turns to see Mare appear next to him, "Mare?"
"My lord, Lord Azazel has been trying to get in touch with you."
Set frowns, "Damnit, I'm working here."
Mare's ears twitch at the sounds of the trolls, "What's going on?"
Set puts his shield on his back and summons a second kopesh, "I got some trolls to kill."
Mare grips his staff, "I'll help you my lord."
Set shrugs, "Suit yourself."
"Just keep your distance, I don't want to slice you by accident."
Mare nods, "Yes my lord."
The trolls burst out of their tunnels and start to circle around until the two companions are surrounded on all sides.
Mare shivers, "I count at least 300 my lord."
Set smirks, "Sounds like fun."
"I haven't had something like this in a long time."
Set laughs as he rushes forward and cuts down an entire line of trolls in one swing. The trolls' blood splashes Set in the face, making him laugh in ecstasy.
Set turns to Mare, who looks a little freaked out, "Don't be afraid, Mare."
"Back in IRL one of my positions was the god of violence." "I love the thrill of the fight, it fills me with excitement."
Mare nods in understanding, "You are a warrior at heart."
Set grins and slices another line of trolls, who have become disoriented, "Yes, especially fights were the odds are against me."
"Come Mare, let's play this game to the finish."
Set continues to slice the trolls, while Mare uses his druid magic to strangle and crush the remaining trolls. The slaughter only lasts for a short while, until only a small handful of trolls are left.
They start to back up, ready to retreat, causing Set to frown, "Mare, hold them for me, would you?"
Mare smiles, "Yes my lord."
He lifts his staff and summons some vines to rise up and ensnare the remaining trolls.
Set lifts his hands, "Bariq Alhukm!" (Lightning of Judgement)
The sky lights up and large bolts of lightning rain down and vaporizing the trolls.
Mare's eyes sparkle, "That was amazing."
Set smirks, "I told you that I was worshipped as a god in my homeworld."
"I had a number of titles, including god of storms, god of chaos, god of violence, and god of foreigners." "However, my primary title was god of the desert."
He ruffles Mare's hair, making him blush, "You did well today Mare."
Mare bows his head, "Thank you my lord."
Set looks down at him, "Return to the Tomb, I'll head back after I finish up here."
Mare nods and teleports back to the Tomb, while Set cracks his neck and heads back outside the tunnel. Everyone's jaws drop at the sight of Set walking out of the tunnel, his body absolutely drenched in blood.
The head knight drops his spear, "How the hell are you alive!?"
Set shrugs, "Like I keep saying, rank means nothing when it comes to skill."
The knights all nod dumbly, not able to come up with a response.
He turns to Evileye, "Can we get a move on with this?"
"I got a message from my friend in E-Rantel, it sounds like an emergency."
Evileye nods, "Of course, we just need to report back to the guild."
The two of them report back to the guild, shocking everyone with Set's blood soaked appearance. After conversing with the guild master about the mission, he agrees to increase his rank to Mithril. Set and Evileye say their farewells, and Set heads towards E-Rantel.
Speaking of which…
Ainz and Narberal have their own little situation with the guild girl, due to Ainz not being able to read the rankings on the job board. Thankfully, they are saved by the intervention of a small group of adventurers known as the Swords of Darkness.
The group's leader smiles at them, "Nice to meet you, my name is Peter Mauk."
"Over here we have Lukrut Volve, out ranger."
Lukrut smiles, "Hey there."
He tries to flirt with Narberal, but is icily shut down.
Peter smacks him on the head, "I apologize, Lukrut has a problem controlling his mouth."
He turns to the largest member of his team, "This is our Druid, Dyne Woodwonder."
Dyne gives them a pleasant smile, "It's a pleasure to meet you."
Finally, he gestures to the smallest member of the team, "And this is the final member of our team, Ninya the Spellcaster."
Ninya blushes, "Peter, I thought I told you to not call me that."
Peter grins, "Why not, it's true isn't it?"
"Ninya here is a talent holder."
Ainz hums, "Really, that's interesting."
'In this world a talent is a magical ability that someone is born with.'
"May I ask what it is that he possesses?"
Ninya sighs, "It's not that impressive, it simply makes it easier for me to learn magic."
Dyne smiles, "Don't be so modest Ninya, it is special indeed."
Peter nods, "That's true, but there is somebody in the city with a talent who is even more famous."
Dyne nods, "Ah, you speak of Nfirea Bareare."
Ainz hums, "Who is that?"
Lukrut chuckles, "You guys really aren't from around here."
"Nifrea is a pharmacist that studies under his grandmother Lizzie."
Ainz nods, "My name is Momon, and this is my companion Nabe."
"Can I ask what the job is?"
Peter nods, "It's not really a job per se."
"We volunteered to deal with some rogue monsters outside the city."
Lukrut grins, "We earn a little coin and make things safer for everyone, it's a win-win."
Ainz nods, "I see."
'I get it, it's like grinding for exp."
Ainz reaches for his helmet, "Before we make anything official, it would probably be good if I show you my face."
He takes off his helmet, showing them his face, which has been disguised to look like his human face back in the real world.
Peter hums, "I see, you guys really aren't from around here."
"I've heard of a small country to the south of here where people look like you."
Ainz puts the helmet back on, "If you don't mind, I'd like to keep my helmet on."
"People here might not take kindly to foreigners."
The group agrees to head out, but are stopped by the guild girl.
"Excuse me, Sir Momon?" "You've been requested by name."
This causes a murmur of surprise to spread through the guild hall.
Ainz frowns, "Can I ask who?"
She nods, "That would be Mr. Nifrea Bareare."
Once again, murmurs and gasps spread through the guild hall. A young man with a strange choice in haircut walks up behind the guild girl, letting Ainz get a good look at him.
Ainz holds a hand up, interrupting Nifrea before he can introduce himself.
"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I've already accepted a job with these four."
Peter looks at him like he's crazy, "But it's a personal request."
Ainz grunts, "Yes, but I've already accepted your offer to work with you."
"What kind of man would I be if I broke my word so easily?"
The Swords of Darkness look at him in awe, while the more experienced adventurers nod in agreement and respect.
Ainz shrugs, "Besides, you should be thankful that I'm the one you're dealing with."
"If you had said that to my friend Bayek, he probably would have killed you on principal."
Ainz sighs, "How about this?"
"I'll listen to what he has to say, and I'll decide from there."
Everyone agrees and they head back upstairs to listen to Nifrea's request.
"Thank you for meeting with me." "As you know, my name is Nifrea Bareare, I'm a pharmacist here in the city."
Ainz holds his hand up, "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I have to ask."
"Why ask for me?" "I've only been in the city for a few days and don't know anyone."
Nifrea smiles, "I heard about your little incident at the inn."
Ainz blinks, "The fight at the inn?"
Nifrea nods, before smirking, "Plus, hiring a Copper plate is a lot cheaper than hiring a higher rank."
Ainz nods, "That's true."
"Whatever, what do you want me to do exactly?"
Nifrea nods, "I would like you to accompany me to a spot where I gather potion ingredients."
"At the same time, I need you to protect from any monsters that might attack."
Ainz hums, "I see."
"In that case, I'd like to request Peter and his team to accompany us." "After all, a Ranger and Druid would come in real handy."
Dyne nods, "A very astute observation, Master Momon."
Lukrut grins, "I don't mind."
Peter nods, "Okay, you've got a deal."
Nifrea smiles, "That sounds good to me."
"More adventurers mean more protection for me."
The group heads off into the countryside, where Nifrea has a cart set up.
Ainz hums, "So magic can be used to create things?"
Ninya nods, "There all kinds of things that magic can be used for."
Lukrut continues to flirt with Narberal, which eventually results in her slipping up and mentioning Albedo. Their arguing is interrupted by a pack of goblins and ogres come lumbering out of the nearby woods.
The group immediately jumps into action, with the Swords of Darkness setting up a defensive position around the cart, while Ainz and Narberal walk towards the monsters.
Ainz pulls out his swords and easily cuts down some ogres, while Nabe blasts some goblins with lightning magic. This of course causes the rest of the creatures to flee in terror. Once the bloodshed is over, the group decides to camp out for the night and head off in the morning.
Ainz groans, 'Damnit, I can't eat this, it'll go right through me.'
Dyne frowns, "Is something wrong, Master Momon?"
"You haven't touched your stew."
Ainz sighs, "I am merely following my religious beliefs."
"In my culture, it is rude to partake after spilling blood."
Dyne nods, "I respect your beliefs, Master Momon."
Ainz puts his bowl down, "If I might ask, how exactly did your group come together?"
Peter smirks, "It was actually Ninya's idea."
Ninya blushes, "I was young and stupid."
Lukrut laughs, "Ah, don't sweat it, it wasn't a bad idea."
He turns to Ainz and Narberal, "The name comes from one of the Thirteen Heroes."
"His name was the Black Knight and he wielded four power swords, known as the Swords of Darkness."
Peter nods, "Our dream is to find those swords and use them to become heroes ourselves."
Ninya smiles, "We all share the same goal, so it helps work better as a team."
He turns to Ainz, "Sir Momon, did you ever have a team?"
Ainz hums, "We weren't adventurers, but yes."
"A long time ago, when I was weak and alone, a paladin in white armor saved my life."
He sighs, "They are gone now, only two still remain."
Ninya gives him a weak smile, "I'm sure you'll find more allies just like them."
Ainz hisses, "That day will never come."
He stands up and walks towards his tent with Narberal.
Ninya looks down, "I must have said something to upset him."
Peter hums, "Something must have happened, something bad."
Lukrut nods, "I'm guessing his comrades have died."
"It must still haunt him to this day."
Dyne frowns, "If I were to hypothesize, he and his remaining comrades must have come here to get a fresh start."
He turns to Ninya, "There's no point in worrying over it."
"Just apologize and find a way to work through this."
The following morning, Ninya approaches Ainz, "Sir Momon?"
Ainz sighs and places a hand on Ninya's head, "You don't need to apologize."
"I'm the one who owes you an apology." "The loss of my comrades still weighs heavily on me, but that's no excuse for me to take it out on you."
Ninya blushes, "Even still…I shouldn't have been so casual about it."
Ainz hums, "Let us just forget about this for now."
"We have a job to do after all."
Ninya smiles, "Of course."
Before they can move on, Narberal walks up to them.
"Sir, I have received a message from Sir Bayek." "He is planning on meeting us at our destination."
Ainz raises a non-existent eyebrow, "Did he say why?"
Narberal frowns, "He said that it was urgent that he speak with you."
Ainz nods, "Very well."
Nifrea blinks, "Is Sir Bayek one of your remaining companions?"
Ainz nods, "He is one of my closest friends."
As they walk towards their destination, Ninya turns to Ainz, "What is your friend like Sir Momon?"
Ainz hums, "The three of us have been friends for a long time, but we all came from different backgrounds."
"As such, we all have different ways of thinking and often argue over which is the best route to take."
Lukrut smirks, "Sounds like us."
Ainz nods, "Yes, it seems like ages ago that we first met."
"I was a lot like you, I came from humble beginnings and trained myself to become stronger."
Peter nods, "Not surprising, you'll find many adventurers like that."
Ainz hums, "Bayek was born in the desert."
"He had no family, no friends." "From a young age, he learned how to steal and kill to survive."
Dyne frowns, "That is truly a shame."
"For someone so young to be subjected to that kind of pain."
Ainz nods, "Adrian was the most well off of the three of us."
"He was the outcast of a noble family, never quite fitting in." "So, he left home and struck out on his own as a warrior." "He eventually came to meet us and we formed our team."
He turns to the team, "So when we meet him, be cautious."
"Bayek is a man of honor, but his past has led him to be very aggressive and mistrusting of other people."
Everyone turns to Lukrut with a knowing look, making him blink, "What?"
As they continue towards their destination, Ainz stops dead in his tracks, drawing the attention of the others. They all follow his gaze to see a man with long red hair leaning against a small tree.
Ninya looks up at Ainz, "Is that him?"
Ainz nods, "Yes."
Set looks into Ainz' eyes, 'I got a call from Azazel.'
Ainz frowns, 'What's going on?'
Set shakes his head, 'I don't know, but it sounds important.'
'We need to get back as soon as this job's done.'
Ainz nods, "It's good to see you old friend."
Set clasps hands with Ainz, "It's been a long time."
Set turns Narberal, "Hello Nabe."
Narberal bows her head, "It's good to see you again Sir Bayek."
Bayek turns his gaze to the group, making the group squirm slightly under his intense gaze.
He turns back to Ainz, "What's their story?"
Ainz shrugs, "They offered to help us with a job and we could use the help."
Set nods, "Not a bad idea, making friends."
"So what is the job exactly?"
Ainz turns to Nifrea, "Nifrea here is a pharmacist and has asked us to help him to gather ingredients."
Set frowns, "Pharmacist, didn't Enri say she had a pharmacist friend?"
Ainz's eyes widen, 'I didn't even think of that.'
Set cracks his neck, "Well…let's get going."
Nifrea stops the cart, "What?"
Peter turns to him, "Is something wrong?"
Nifrea frowns, "That fence wasn't there before."
Set pulls out his kopesh, "Don't move."
Ainz puts a hand to one of his swords, "What is it?"
Set growls, "We're surrounded."
Suddenly, a large group of goblins come out from the tall grass and brush.
Their leader frowns, "Don't move, we've got you surrounded."
Peter looks around, "This isn't good."
Set grits his teeth, "Alright you little bastards, come on."
"I've already killed a horde of trolls today, killing you will be as easy as breathing."
Ainz turns to him, "You killed a troll horde?"
Set grunts, "How do you think I got to Mithril rank so quickly?"
Ainz frowns, "How many did you kill?"
Set shrugs, "I counted at least 300."
This causes' the groups' collective jaws to drop, "What!?"
One of the goblins frowns, "He's not lying chief."
"His whole body reeks of blood, it's like he's been bathing in it."
Another one nods, "The blood definitely smells like troll."
"What's going on?"
Everyone turns to see Enri walk through the village gate.
Nifrea's eyes widen, "Enri!?"
Enri blinks, "Nifrea?"
She smiles, "Nifrea!"
Everyone calms down and they head into the village.
Ainz, Set and Narberal stand on a hill, overlooking the villagers being trained by the goblins.
Ainz hums, "It's amazing."
"When we first came to this village, none of these villagers probably ever held a weapon." "Now, they are learning to defend themselves and their loved ones."
Set nods, "You're right, it's inspiring."
"They watched their friends and family being slaughtered, but now they are learning how to live again."
Suddenly, they hear a commotion and turn to see Nifrea run up to them. Nifrea breathes and wheezes as he tries to get air back into his lungs.
Ainz frowns, "Is something wrong Nifrea?"
Nifrea gulps, "Sir Momon, are you really Lord Ainz Ooal Gown?"
Ainz and Set both freeze, while Narberal frowns, 'How did he!?'
Ainz takes a deep breath to calm his nerves, "Narberal, leave us."
Narberal bows her head, "Yes my lord."
After Narberal leaves, Ainz turns his gaze to Nifrea, "How did you find out about this?"
Nifrea fidgets, "Enri told me about how you and three others saved the village from members of the Slane Theocracy."
"She also mentioned a woman named Albedo who was with you."
Ainz sighs, "I see."
Nifrea turns to Set, "Would you be Lord Set?"
Set sighs, "Yes."
Nifrea nods, "Then…your friend Adrian…must be Lord Azazel."
Ainz folds his arms, "Nifrea, have you told anyone about us?"
Nifrea shakes his head, "No, I know you have your own reasons for hiding your identities."
Ainz nods, "Thank you."
Nifrea smiles, "Of course."
He bows his head, "I thank you both for saving this village and the woman that I love."
He frowns, "Although…there is something else I need to tell you."
Set frowns, "What is it?"
Nifrea fidgets, "I actually requested Lord Ainz for a reason."
Ainz sighs, already having an idea, "The potion."
Nifrea nods, "Yes, my grandma and I couldn't make heads or tails about it."
"I sought you out in hopes of learning the secrets of the potion."
Ainz hums, "I had a feeling that might be the case."
"But tell me…What were you planning to do with the potion, once you learned the truth?"
Nifrea blushes, "To be honest, I hadn't really thought that far ahead."
"Just the knowledge was tantalizing enough."
Ainz hums, "I see."
Set grunts, "Nifrea, you don't have to be afraid of us."
"As long as you weren't planning on using the potion for nefarious purposes, we won't harm you."
Nifrea smiles and bows his head, "Thank you again."
The group stays the night, before heading off in the morning to finally gather the ingredients.
Set groans, "I'm no good at this."
Nifrea nods with a smile, "I guess growing up in the desert limits your knowledge of medicinal plants."
Ainz sighs, "It can't be helped Bayek."
He turns to Nifrea, "You were telling me about this Wise King of the Forest."
Nifrea nods, "It's one of three great monsters that rule over the forests in the Kingdom."
They move deeper into the forest, where Ainz stops.
"Perhaps it would be better if my friends and I scout ahead, in case any monsters are nearby."
Nifrea smiles, "That's a good idea, but be careful."
The three of them head into the forest, where they run into Aura and Mare.
Ainz hums, "So you understand the plan right?"
Aura nods, "You want me to draw out this Wise King of the Forest so you can tame it."
"Such a powerful creature might make a useful addition to Nazarick's forces."
Ainz nods in confirmation, "Exactly."
Set sits down on a log, "Mare, come sit with me for a moment."
Mare hesitates before walking over and sitting down next to him, "My lord?"
Set turns to Aura, "Go on ahead Aura, I'll make sure Mare doesn't get into trouble."
Aura smiles, "Thank you my lord."
Aura rushes off to find the Wise King, while Ainz and the others wait in anticipation.
Set turns to Ainz, "By the way Ainz, Mare proved himself quite well during my job earlier."
Ainz hums, "Oh, is that so?"
Mare blushes and taps his fingers together, "I didn't do that much."
Set grins, "He helped me take down those trolls I was telling you about."
Ainz hums, "Impressive."
Mare blushes and stutters, "Well…I…"
They are interrupted by the sound of something large coming towards them.
The movement stops, before something flies out of the trees and strikes at Ainz, who manages to block the strike.
"You did well to block my attack, knave."
Ainz scoffs, "That attack was far from threatening."
The creature growls, "Cocky, it is."
"Devourer it, I shall."
Ainz scoffs again, "Big talk for something that won't show itself."
The creature growls, "Big talk, knave."
"Behold my glory."
The creature comes into the light, causing Ainz and Set's eyes to widen at the familiar form.
Set deadpans, "You've gotta be fucking kidding me."
The creature laughs, "Are you frightened, human?"
Ainz frowns, "Actually, I have a question."
"Are you a Djungarian hamster?"
The giant hamster into full view, "I am."
"Are you familiar with my species?"
Ainz nods, "Umm…how do I put this…a friend of ours kept one of your people as a pet."
The creature's eyes light, "Is that true?"
"Then please tell me where I can find them, I must breed and continue my race."
Ainz groans, "Well…I think your size might make that difficult."
The hamster sighs, "I see…disappointing that is."
Ainz grunts, "Sorry about that."
The hamster shakes her head, "No need."
She hisses and unsheathes her claws, "Now then, let's fight to the death."
Ainz grumbles, "Wise King of the Forest my bony ass."
He unleashes his Deathly Aura, making the hamster's fur stand on end and causing her to submit to him.
"I'm sorry my master, serve you faithfully I shall."
Set stands up, "There, that wasn't so bad."
He walks up to the hamster and runs his hand through her fur, "I must say, this might be the softest thing I've ever felt."
Aura and Mare run up and start to rub the hamster's fur, making her preen at the attention.
Aura and Mare head back to the Tomb while the others meet back up with the Swords of Darkness, who all geek out over the hamster.
Ainz and Set both deadpan, 'They can't be serious, she's cute not scary.'
They head back to E-Rantel in order to finish the job and register the Wise King, who they decide to name Hamsuke, as a member of Ainz and Nabe's team. Once everything has been settled, Ainz and Nabe are both given the rank of Mithril, while the Swords of Darkness are all given the Gold rank.
Hamsuke shivers, "Mistress Nabe, I'm scared to go to Nazarick."
"Be eaten I will be."
Narberal sighs, "You are the property of Ainz Ooal Gown."
"As his pet, no one would dare eat you."
Ainz turns to Set, "What do you think Azazel wants?"
Set shakes his head, "I don't know, but it's probably bad."
They walk into the throne room to find Azazel waiting for them, along with the Floor Guardians, Sebas, the Pleiades, Anubis, the Angels and Nigun. Lying on the ground is three people, a young woman with long blonde hair, a man with blue hair and a katana and a young woman that Ainz recognizes as the adventurer that he gave the potion to.
Azazel has a furious look, "We need to talk."
End of chapter 4.
