CHAPTER THREE.

"Morning sunshine," Beatrix greets as Malvolia slowly wakes up.

The brunette lifts herself with her elbows, "Morning," she mutters groggily.

Beatrix just gives her a nod in reply as she searches through her closet for an outfit.

"Hey, where did you go last night?"

Beatrix stops and slowly turns to Malvolia, her eyes glancing her up and down. "Mal, can I trust you?"

Malvolia crosses her arms self-conciously. "We just met..." She trails off.

Beatrix looks her in the eyes. "That's not what I asked."

The brunette sighs before giving the girl a nod. "You can trust me."

"Is that a promise?" Beatrix asks, her tone light but Malvolia knew she meant business.

"Promise."

Beatrix nods. "I was out past the barrier."

"Oh my god, Bea, that's dangerous!" Mal gasps. "Did you forget it was only yesterday I saw the dead body out there?"

Beatrix smirks. "Don't you worry your pretty little head, Mal. I wasn't the one in danger, now get dressed wouldn't want you to be late to class already," the auburn-hair girl tells her before walking out the door.

Malvolia heads over to her side of the room and grabs her shower caddy as well as towel. She heads into the shower area, a screech filling her ears as she opens the door.

"Do you- do you mind?" Tecna asks, her soft voice filled with anxiousness.

"Don't worry techno, you're not the first naked body I've seen and you definiely won't be the last, I can guarantee that," Mal tells her passively as she makes way to a shower stall. "Besides," she says holding the shower stall door. "It's a communal shower, what did you expect?" She smiles sarcastically before slamming her stall shut.

( CROWN ON THE GROUND. )

Malvolia sits on a rock within the stone circle, Tecna sitting a few feet away from her. The brunette lifts up her head at the sight of Beatrix making her entrance. "Well well well," she smirks. "Look who ended up being late."

"I had things to attend to," Beatrix says, a matching smirk on her face.

"Magic lives in the very fabric of nature," Dowling says, shushing the conversation between the suitemates. "And here in our circle of stone, it's magnified," the headmaster informs them, her eyes meeting Malvolia's.

The brunettes head twitching at all the chatters in her mind.

Beatrix grabs her arm. "You okay?"

"I'm fine," Malvolia tells her through clenched teeth, her head tightening.

"Just focus on me," Beatrix whispers.

Malvolia grips Bea's arm and channels her magic to focus on the girl next to her. The pain in her head lessening as she hits the mental wall that surrounds Beatrix. She sighs a breath of relief, giving Bea a grateful smile as their eyes meet.

"The Vessel tests your ability to channel that magic. Later, you may learn to connect with other elements, but your first year is all about
the element you were born with. Earth," Dowling calls Terra up to demonstrate.

The girl standing in front of the rock, her eyes turn green as she easily makes vines grow into the air.

"Hmm," Beatrix comments. "Not bad for a flower fucker," she giggles quietly to Malvolia, who watches Terra proudly use her ability. She glances over at Dowling who looks proud at the young girls control.

"Must be fucking nice," Mal whispers as she watches each girl go up and show their powers, including Beatrix and Tecna.

"Whatever your element," Dowling instructs. "The emotions underlying it are the same for all fairies," she tells them, ushering Bloom up to the stone.

The red-head slowly makes her way up to the stone. Malvolia desperately focuses on Beatrix's mind to try to ignore the screaming thoughts that portrude from Bloom's head.

"Open yourself up to the magic of the world around you," Dowling instructs, Bloom's eyes lighting red "Push past your doubts. Focus on clear, positive feelings."

Bloom grips the bowl tighter in nervousness. Malvolia's eyes flicker purple as screams of a man and women enter her head. She grabs her head as the pain of being scorched by fire fills her entire body.

Beatrix grabs onto Malvolia, cooing into her ear as an attempt to calm her power. She quickly zaps the brunette with a shock of electricity to break her out.

Malvolia gasps and wipes the couple of beads of sweat from her forehead. He brown eyes meeting Tecna's.

"Are you okay?" The pink hair girl whispers to her, only recieving a stiff nod in response.

"It's not working," Bloom says in frustration. "Can we just move on?"

Dowling nods. "Lesson dismissed."

Malvolia stays seated as everyone begins to get up and leave. She watches as Bloom makes her way over to Dowling, waiting for their heated conversation to end before making her way over.

"Why?" Malvolia asks, her brown eyes in a glare.

"I beg your pardon," Dowling turns to her.

"You had everyone go up, everyone go to practice their power but not me," she tells her, her eyes stinging with tears of frustration.

"We ran out of time for today," Dowling tells her dismissedly.

"Bullshit," Mal shouts. "You people treat me like I'm some lost cause but I'm trying. I'm not here because I want to be I'm here because I need control and I recognize that."

Dowling sighs. "Next lesson, we'll work on it," she tells her.

Malvolia's eyes flicker purple. "What was that?" She asks.

The head master stiffens. "What was what?"

Malvolia squints her eyes at the woman in front of her, looking her up and down. "Nothing," she purses her lips before heading back to Beatrix.

She sighs in exhaustion as she reaches the freckled girl.

"What did she say?" Bea asks.

"She said next leason," Mal tells her flatly.

"And do you believe her?"

Mal gives her dry look. "Of course not, when I was younger it was 'you'll learn control when you're older'. Then when I got older it was you'll learn control at Alfea' and now that I'm at Alfea its 'next lesson'. It's all rubbish, I'm starting to think they don't want me to have control."

"Well, maybe I can help with that," Beatrix tells her.

"You'd help me learn control?" Malvolia asks.

"Of course I would," Bea smirks.

"There was something else though," Mal states as they start heading back to the Fairy Hall. "When she was talking to me, I got a flash of something... a feeling."

"What was it?"

"Guilt."

( CROWN ON THE GROUND. )

Sky sighs as he watches Stella walk away from him. "You don't have to lecture me, I'm lecturing myself already in my head," he tells Silva.

"My guess is you would ignore your own lectures as well," Silva smirks.

"She's not as bad as you think," the blond defends.

"She's familiar, there's comfort in that but discomfort is where growth lies."

"That sounded like a lecture," Sky scoffs.

"Well, I promised your father I would look out for you, and he..."

"...would have said the same thing."

Silva smiles fondly. "Not exactly, he would've used a lot more profanity."

Sky chuckles, a smile playing on his lips.

"Have you talk to your sister?" Silva asks, patting the younger man on his shoulder.

"No, we haven't really talked since..." Sky's eyes widen as he trails off.

"Since what?" Silva's eyebrows furrow. "Sky... did something happen?"

Sky shifts uncomfortably, debating on if he should say anything or not. On one hand, Mal is one of the closest thing he has to family and he'd rather not throw her under the bus. However, on the other hand he feels a sense of duty to inform their father of what's going on with her. Sky didn't need to be an empath to feel Mal slowly pulling away since she's started at Alfea, perhaps even before.

Sky sighs and just gives in. "There was an incident..."

( CROWN ON THE GROUND. )

"Riven!" Malvolia waves over her best friend as her and Beatrix lean against a bush.

"His names Riven?" Beatrix asks, her nose scrunched in disgust. Malvolia chooses to ignore her.

"When you said you wanted to meet up I had other things in mind unless... you brought an audience."

"Fuck off twat," Beatrix snears.

"Who's this?" Riven smirks in amusement.

Malvolia looks over her shoulder at Beatrix. "Just a friend," she dimisses. "But we need your help."

Riven lifts his eyebrow. "With what?"

"Breaking in Dowling's office, are you game?" Beatrix asks, her arms crossed against her chest and her eyes glaring.

Riven smirks. "First week of school and already up to so much trouble, Via. What would your daddy say."

Mal goes to hits his shoulder which he effectively blocks. "Are you in or not?" She asks him.

Riven lights up a bud. "For you? Anything," he smiles, smoke blowing out of his nose.

"Good," she nods as the three start walking to the Fairy Hall.

"You got him by the balls," Beatrix whispers.

"Careful Bea, you almost sound jealous," Mal smirks.

Mal'a phone starts to ring, a photo of her and her dad popping up on the screen. "I have to take this, I'll meet you guys there?"

Beatrix nods before walking off. Riven staying behind. "You're going to leave me with that right mess? She looks like she puts the hot in in psychotic."

Mal rolls her eyes. "She's my friend."

"Right yeah since when do you have friends?" Riven questions.

Mal smirks. "Scared I'm going to leave you behind?"

Riven shakes his head, giving her a smug look. "You couldn't shake me, even if you wanted too."

"I don't ever want too," Mal tells him honestly. "Now go and don't get caught, yeah?"

Riven nods, he tosses the bud on the ground and steps on it. He follows after Beatrix but not before taking a glance back at Mal, an adoring gaze in his eyes in which Mal winks too.

"Hello dad, to what do I owe this pleasure?" Mal answers.

"I think we need to have a chat," her father's stern voice echoing through the speakers.

( CROWN ON THE GROUND. )

Malvolia stomps into the eating area, her brown eyes scanning for her traitorous brother. "You, you are a fucking snitch," she shouts storming towards the blond.

"Lia, can we please do this somewhere else?" Sky begs, noticing all the kids staring at them including Bloom.

"No, no we cannot. How dare you tell Dad I lost control."

"That's not what I said," Sky sighs.

"Oh really? Then why is it that I'm on watch again? It's proper bullshit, Terra is fine. Look at her, happy. I was in full control. I'm tired of everyone constantly wanting to condemn me for my powers. I didn't ask for them and I'm getting real sick of your righteousness," she tells him before storming off. The brunnette rushes to Dowlings office, hoping nobody takes note of her.

"What's got you in a tizzy?" Riven asks with a smug smile, drom Dowling's seat in front of her desk

"Your best friend," Mal glares ar Riven as if it was his fault.

"Ahh, you mean your brother?"

Mal huffs before looking at Beatrix. "Did you find what you need?" She asks earnestly. Besides Riven, Beatrix has been the only person to be fully honest and accepting of Mal. And the young girl desperately wanted to give Bea the same comfort.

Riven scoffs. "She's been talking my ear off about history and truth. Fucking nerds," he mutters.

Beatrix rolls her eyes. "You have such an interesting taste in guys, Mal, you could do so much better."

"Fuck off, I'm the best she'll ever have," Riven defends making Mal smile. "Well if you didn't get what you want there's no use in staying around," Riven tells the two getting up and heading towards the door. He looks back at Mal, "Meet me at my room, when you're done yeah?"

Mal nods before turning back towards Beatrix. "You never answered my question."

"I did... find what I'm looking for."

"And what is that exactly?" Mal asks, her arches eyebrow raised.

"Answers, just like you," the auburn girl tells her before walking off.
