Chapter 4: Life as a Slytherin

Even before the sorting, just after watching Evan Rosier and Everett Mulciber bully Peter Pettigrew, Severus Snape was completely sure that even if they get sorted inthe same house as him, he would not become a part of their stupid bully group.

He had a feeling that they wouldn't be much accepting of the half blood Slytherin, not that he cared much of their opinion. So he just decided to ignore the two.

He wasn't exactly thrilled that Lily and he were not sorted in the same house, but then came to the conclusion that she being a Muggleborn would most likely find it too difficult to be a Slytherin without being a constant target of blood purists.

At the house table, Astrid, despite being extremely quiet and rarely verbal, had told him about all the rich pure bloods he should keep distance from and he appreciated her concern and was planning to stay away from them.

During the dinner at the Great Hall, he made friends with two very good looking brothers, Nicolas Grey a third year and Nathan Grey a first year.

He had remembered his mother mentioning that the Grey family was considered to be a respectable, rich and pureblood family who supported the light side, despite being mostly a Slytherin family and being labelled bloodtraitors. The two seemed to be very nice as well, though the older one showed some extreme hatred towards the 5th year prefect Lucius Malfoy.

Dinning at the Great Hall wasn't really a difficult task, with so many people around, bullies were rarely doing anything and everyone was busy chatting with one another.

Even being shown the common room and being introduced to the Slytherin rules which were not to be broken went well. The prefects had just told them what was expected of them and stuff Severus had listened with really less interest.

No, the problem came at the dorms. Nathan was one of the partners, so that wasn't much of a problem. But they had to unfortunately share them with Rosier and Mulciber.

At first the two tried to talk to him, but when they realised he had became friends with Nathan, they tried to persuade him from not picking him as a friend as the Grey's were the "wrong sort" and that had eventually led up to roast battle between the three purebloods who could barely tolerate eachother.

And that led him to pick up a charms book so he could find the instructions to a silencing charm and managed to place it around his bed so their bickering won't affect his very needed sleep.

He had woken up later extremely early and had Mulciber comment, "Snape, why are you awake so early?"

"It's a habbit." He had replied, making sure the answer was short.

"You're a weird one." Mulciber had replied back but afterwards Severus had just ignored him.

His first class had been potions with the Gryffindors, and before Professor Slughorn had arrived, the fight between his three roomates had been extremely disastrous. He knew that he would need to learn how to put a shield charm around his bed with enemity among the three.

Atleast no one reported to a professor.

"Hey Sev, can you help me with the defence assignment?" Lily asked, as the duo walked towards the library.

"Sure Lils." Replied Severus.

Of all the subjects, he seemed to be doing the best in Potions and Defence against the Dark Arts. Lily on the other hand was excellent in Charms and Potions.

Lily beamed, before she questioned, "Great, also the others needed help in other subjects, so I told them to us in the library. That's fine with you right?"

"I guess." He shrugged.

"Hey Snape, why are you with a Gryffindorks?" He heard a familiar voice and inwardly groaned to find himself talking to Lucius Malfoy.

Lily frowned, "I wasn't aware there was a rule that Slytherins can't hang out with Gryffindors."

The Malfoy heir seemed to realise something and made a disgusted face, "Ah, and mudblood too. Surely you could choose friends more wisely Snape."

This angered Severus who retorted, "Don't you dare call her that Malfoy. I can be friends with whoever I want to be."

The pureblood just snorted and left them alone.

"Sev, what's a Mudblood?" Lily asked curiously.

"Don't say that foul word, Lils. You see, some old pureblood families like the Malfoys believe that since their blood is pure, they're superior. They believe muggleborns like you don't deserve magic and that you steal magic from purebloods. That word basically mean dirty blood cause you are directly related to muggles who was considered inferior. It's stupid, I know." Severus explained, which caused Lily to frown.

"But that logic is so stupid. It's not like I chose that I want magic or anything. I was born with it." Lily spoke.

"I know that, but those families are just ignorant. I don't think anything can change that." Replied Severus.

Soon they arrived at the library and started to study with rest of the group, completely forgetting about the Mudblood incident.
