HEAVY RECON / SIGNAL CORPS.
CIVIL MANAGEMENT PROJECTS DIV. 9
"This goes back to Pre-War America what I'm about to tell you. Our government has been in league with extraterrestrial beings or at least been made aware of their presence since around the 1930's. All of our best tech was due to an exchange program."
"In exchange for what exactly?" Rhodes asked.
"Human. Or more specifically Women and children. It's complicated. You see what we've learned is that these aliens have a non-functioning digestive system, so they needed subjects, at the time it was cattle, now it is brahman, to experiment with to find a cure for themselves. It gets worse. In addition to finding a cure for themselves they also were also secretly experimenting with the human genome and fucking around with our genetics. They grew an appetite for human flesh as well."
"Why the women and children?"
"The women from what we can tell were used for a number of things, breeding experiments and also cloned to be used as sex slaves. The Children were needed because of the similarities in biology and size which made them prime candidates. By the 1980's relations had become sour and the aliens took over a lot of underground bases. This is partially why Vault Tec initiated their Vault program as well, as a countermeasure for an all our war with the aliens. However the Chinese beat them to it. When the bombs fell and the government retreated into the Vaults all contact was lost with the aliens. When we reemerged as the Enclave we once again made contact with the aliens and new deals were hammered out, similar to the ones which had previously existed due to that's what worked in the past so we figured it would continue working now. However, it wasn't long before things once again got out of hand. They disregarded the outlines of the agreements and were abducting a large amount of females and children once again to restart their breeding and experimentation programs. There was no way to stop them. We had captured and controlled two bases as I've mentioned, one in Los Alamos and the other in the South at Sandia. From there we've secretly monitored the main hub which is known as Dulce for the past three decades. Our units stationed are some of the best in the Enclave, even unknown to the broader part of the Enclave. We have several Sigma Shock Troop Squads stationed at either base with auxiliary engineering units and a sizable scientific community working at finding weapons to combat them. So far their tech has always been one step ahead of ours. Which brings us up to our time currently. We had just launched a failed assault on the first levels of the Dulce Base, they knew we were coming and our forces were easily repelled. We were in retreat trying to reestablish contact with our main forces when your fucking idiot unit ambushed us."
"How in the Hell were we supposed to know what the fuck was happening. Not to reeducate you or anything, but our history isn't one of cooperative allegiances."
"Screw you dogs. If you didn't go everywhere guns blazing, killing everything in sight, you might learn a thing or two, instead you leave an endless trail of corpses in your wake."
"The wasteland isn't as hospitable as you make it out to be. There's abominations around every corner. Aliens you say? Big deal, we've had to battle through worse."
"I doubt that. You think you've seen the worst, but you aren't even aware of the things they've been doing with F.E.V. Things that will give you nightmares. You haven't seen these abominations. As far as fighting them goes. Their weapons are too powerful, bionic. They operate on physics we have yet to understand. However, they are still flesh and blood, and can be killed. But they've taken control of a large portion of that mechanical army you thought you had defeated. Fools. You really thought you defeated the entire mechanical army on your own. You Brotherhood dogs are so arrogant."
"Interesting. We were unsure about their numbers, but the missing detachments make sense now."
"Yes. They use them as sentries guarding the base to supplement their own weaker biologies."
They sat around and discussed possible plans for evacuation, but it was no use. They were one again at a technological disadvantage. The aliens had scouts searching for them as they spoke. They had eyes everywhere. They were unsure if they had deployed any craft to search for them. If they could establish contact with the other two bases they could be sure for certain.
"Well that's our only option. We need to reach Los Alamos labs, then from there we use the rail lines to Sandia to hijack a prototype weapon there. I'l Explain more on that in a moment."
"Whoa. Hold on a second. You heard him. They have us outnumbered. They'll kill us on site, just like we'd do to them." Rhodes explained.
"No. I'm preposing a temporary alliance. We can use all the help we can get. Even though we have a sizable force at both bases, not everybody agrees with what should be done about the situation, leaving us with a smaller force to work with." Miller offered. "I'll provide security badges and clearances temporarily."
"Sure but what happens if and when we get control of this base? I smell treachery." Wolfe concluded. "There is too much at stake. Count us out."
"My concern is for the human prisoners. That is our mistake we must make right." Miller continued. "You don't know the size of this base. It's too large for any one faction to control. Our deal is to destroy it. All of it, and any thing living is also going to be eliminated."
"Hey fuck you pal. Nobody asked to be thrown in this fucking mess you and your shadow government created with your bogus dealings. You really fucked this entire planet over, if this is true at all."
There was silence as they all thought of how such a task would be accomplished. It seemed impossible. Against a force of at least 2,500. It was suicide.
"What resources do we have at our disposal?"
"Unfortunately we are in a similar position as you. We cannot let our superiors know our true intentions. They would not allow such an asset be willingly destroyed. That being said…Five Sigma Squads have always been ready for this. They're ready and waiting. Fully kit'd out for this specific mission and its parameters. That's thirty Shocktroops, the best trained anywhere in the world, plus your eight, I assume also hardened vets, bringing us to thirty eight. Realistically though, with their training and equipment, it is a force that could be compared to at least 150-200 soldiers."
"That's still impossible. We'll be lucky to look at the damn base without being blown out of the water."
"Our scientists have been developing a weapon called a Cell-Electrostatic Disruption device or CED. A weapon that could be set to disrupt the cells of a living creature at a subatomic level, thereby killing everything living within the area while keeping the structure intact, making sure of a safe retreat, We'll rig the structure to explode by other means. We could possibly take this weapon from the LABS at Sandia as I've mentioned and use it against them."
"And how are we going to gain entrance into the base?"
"We have been monitoring a known disk ufo used as cargo delivery. If you were to hijack that experimental X12 Vertiberid from your base back at Cheyenne, we can use the return of the craft from the mother ship in orbit as cover while flying into the base, taking control of the main tower and opening the main hangar so the rest of the assault teams could move in with the humvee and APC taking them by surprise and laying waste with overwhelming firepower. We will have a separate Sigma Squad in position use the water intake as a point of entry, attacking from there to support the main force once the hangar has been blown open, taking control of the sub levels and blowing the mag rail lines which connect to other bases. There are also known alien craft which we can try and hijack from the base in order to make a retreat, back to our own respective bases with the captives."
"How do you know about the X12?"
"We have our sources."
Running short ton time they continued to expedite the makeshift plan in which they came up with the following:
There were a number of ways to track the incoming ship. The light craft focused the microwave energy to create an "air spike" that detected oncoming air , that could be tracked. And electrodes on the vehicles rim that ionized air and formed part of the thrust-generating system could bee seen by real time cameras and even the human eye at close ranges. This, it was planned that once of the attack teams would enter the facility when the main port's doors were open for an incoming light craft. This was not going to be an easy stunt. Sensors around the area set off an alarm if anything got too close to the doors, not to mention warn the operators of any air or space vehicle that got too close. The mouth was too small for anything larger than a good sized helicopter, but helicopters would be too slow to reach the doors before the base defensive systems went off. And once inside the port area, any attack force would likely be overwhelmed by the base defenders- unless, whatever craft used would carry a number of heavy automatic weapons, and land a large number of attackers at one time.
The aliens were quite content that no such craft existed in the human military inventory. And not even they had a craft that could be used under all the required conditions, they wouldn't be spotted long before it could reach the port.
What they hadn't counted on was one, single, experimental aircraft, that was still so secret that it had never been entered on any inventory list.
Manufactured and modified in secret, The Experimental VTOL Vertibird X12 was a "research" craft with some familiar abilities. The success of the V/ STOL (Variable Stability System) aircraft, an unconventional mix of wings, jets, and huge ducted props might not have been pretty, but it was perfect for the mission needs of the attack force.
Because of the lack of time, the only man involved who also had the skill to fly the X12 Vertibird was Captain Rhodes. Thus he was chosen to lead the Combat Assault Team (CAT) three, that would be responsible for attacking the main landing port - and hold it long enough for other teams to follow up in the Humvee and heavily armored APC for the withdrawal and evacuation of CAT's and victims when the attack was concluded.
While the attack teams were being organized over short wave radios, objectives and alternative were picked, including a nuclear option in case the manned attack failed. However, this option was denied due to the sensitive nature of the operation and so they had no other choice than to succeed in the original plan of attack. Enclave astronaut Lt. Col. Rigs was chosen to go with CAT-3 to make an attempt to loot one of the alien space ships. Paladin Sam was to go as Rigs' co-pilot and heavy weapons specialist for the mission. Paladin Hall was to also go in as a member of CAT-3 to gather information, and hopefully escape with another alien ship or equipment, with Knight Aces commanding the Material Acquisition Team (MAT). None of their efforts could be of value, of course, unless the attack plan worked.
Germs and Bacteria posed an equally huge threat to the aliens as their immune system was more susceptible to such things. An Enclave Sigma Squad Leader would take on the extra duty of leading a secondary team inside the main landing port once CAT 3 had secured the area - to disable the central air filter exchange that was next to the landing area. He created the title of Filter Assault Team (FAT) for his group.
"I Dunno. There seems to be a lot of moving parts. If any fail this whole thing could go belly up."
"Also how are we supposed to do all this on short notice?"
"It's already in motion. Been weeks in the making. Question is, are you ready Major?"
