End of author's notes:
It was just a matter of a few quick moments before they reached the diva's apartment. The deadweight that was known under the name of Chris was delivered into his room. Akali put him on his bed, not caring much about the man. After all, for her, he was nothing; just another random guy in the crowd.
When the magenta-haired woman opened the door to her chambers, Akali was not surprised. To say that Eve was extravagant would be a massive understatement. The woman loved wealth, the glittering of gold. If she had remembered correctly, the siren had once told them that smell of success had been intoxicating to her. And… with that, the burgundy-haired woman could agree.
"Can I use the shower?" Akali asked a moment after entering the room.
"But, of course, darling," the siren replied with a small smile. "I assume you'd love to get some new dry clothes as well?" she asked.
"Yeah, it was not the smartest idea to go out like that," the blue-eyed woman pointed out on her outfit, "whilst it is raining."
"Definitely," Eve agreed, making a clicking sound with her tongue.
"I really hate when you are doing that," Akali uttered in a low voice.
"Oh… what do you hate?" the magenta-haired woman's eyes lit up. "You're surely not talking about that, aren't you?" she asked, making the clicking sound again.
"Yeah, it is exactly what I was referring to," the azure-eyed beauty sighed. "I am going to take a shower. Leave the clothes by the door. And… thank you in advance, Eve," she added.
"The pleasure is all mine, darling," the diva responded tenderly with a soft smile playing on her full, kissable lips. "Go on, hop under the shower, and let me… deal with the minor details such as your clothing," she added, did not ever realising that she flashed a mischievous smile.
"Ehhh…, right away, ma'am," the burgundy-haired beauty sighed.
Maybe just a moment later, she vanished behind the black as the onyx door leading to the bathroom. The mischievous smile playing on Eve's lips only widened as the result of it. The diva allowed herself to wait until the soft sound of the pouring water reached her ears. Only then, she proceeded toward the huge wardrobe when her clothes were being stored; as a matter of fact, not only hers. In the very back of the drawer, Akali's clothes could be found. After her departure 3 years ago, Evelynn had found herself unable to entirely cut off the connection with the rapper. For days, maybe even weeks, maybe even months, she had come back to Akali's room, crying. At the very end, she had decided to take some of the younger woman's clothes. Throughout the years, the diva had been taking care of these pieces of clothing. For her, they became the symbol of some sort. They had been there to remind the siren about Akali, about the distant possibility of her return. It seemed that after all these years, this slim thread of hope became a reality.
The decently-sized package was retrieved from the drawer with extreme care. The fabric smelled just like Akali. Truth be told, once a month, the so-called "heartless bitch" Evelynn was spraying them with the rapper's favourite cologne. Without even noticing, she pulled the package close to her chest, hugging it. She breathed in the aroma, relishing it.
"Eve?" the diva suddenly heard the call from the bathroom. "Did you manage to find some clothes for me?" the question nearly immediately followed.
"Yes… yes, of course," the magenta-haired woman replied, removing the paper bag, then heading toward the door. "You can take them. Sorry, got distracted, lost within my thoughts," the diva offered a brief explanation whilst putting down the clothes. "Please, choose whatever you feel like."
"Sure, thank you," the younger woman responded.
A few seconds later, the door opened slightly. The golden-eyed goddess spotted her girlfriend's hand reaching out for the clothes, then the sound of the lock could be heard. For more than a couple of minutes, the siren waited for some kind of reaction. After all, she thought that Akali would have been able to recognise her own clothing.
Soon enough, the door opened again, revealing the younger woman's frame. It was not a surprise for Evelynn which clothing she had chosen. The burgundy-haired woman wore the full-length, dark combat trousers. Then a short tee was spotted – that left her deliciously looking abdominal muscles in plain sight. Of course, her favourite long jacket could not have been omitted.
"You… you have kept them for all these years?" the blue-eyed beauty asked, stuttering a little.
"I'd keep them even till the end of the world if it was a case," Evelynn replied without thinking. "I… I have many things that keep reminding me of you," the woman added. "I've always cared deeply about you. And… that, haven't changed."
"I do not know what to say, Eve," Akali responded. "It means a lot to me. I appreciate the effort," she allowed her eyes to become slightly softer before lower her gaze. "Anyways, I need to make a call. My team will be here in a matter of minutes," she added, reddening up.
"Did you blush?" Eve asked playfully.
"Nothing happened!" the burgundy-haired woman visibly jumped whilst replying. "As I said, I need to make a call. Will be back in a few," she informed the older woman.
Akali headed toward the stairs leading to the rooftop. She blushed even more as soon as the playful giggle of Evelynn reached her ears.
"This woman will be the death of me," Akali whispered quietly.
"Oh… I'm sure about that," the diva replied.
Just a moment later, she was gone, vanishing behind the solid frame of the door. The diva was conflicted inside, or at least to some extent. The woman who had shaken her entire world – not only once, but twice – returned. Of course, she was happy, yet, something at the very end of her mind raised the red flag. Their reunion was going oh-so-well, smooth, to be honest, she would have never expected it that way. Akali had matured; about that, Evelynn was positive. It was not only her physical appearance that changed. Her behaviour was different. Even though the burgundy-haired soldier had picked up the fight with Chris – like her younger self – she had not allowed her emotions to take over. Throughout the fight, she had remained cool, calm, and calculated. The way the younger woman had started nonchalantly flirting with her could not have been named otherwise than a shock. She would have to lie if she had said that it had not turned her on. She absolutely loved the dominant side of her beloved Rogue, yet there was a small downside of that. To be specific, how much Akali had changed? Was there still the girl she had fallen in love with inside? Or… she had been replaced by the soldier?
At first glance, the question would seem trivial, yet the devil lay in the details. There was no doubt that Akali had gone through a lot since their last meeting. The weight of these "events" she had encountered could be seen inside her eyes. The playfulness, the curiosity of the world that once reigned there could not be found anymore.
If there had been a thing that the diva would be sure of, it would have been the fact that Akali had always strived for perfection. If she had been forced to become a soldier by fate's turns, she would have become a perfect one, flawless in her act. It was just in Akali's nature to practise, to train, to improve. She had rarely set goals. Truth be told, they would have never been something in the hand's reach. No… it would have to be something difficult, meaningful for the burgundy-haired woman. And, the funny part was that as soon as the goal would have been reached, the next one would have replaced it. The magenta-haired woman remembered that Rogue once had mentioned that for her, the way to the goal was far more important than the said goal.
The siren was not entirely sure how much time had passed since her darling had left the room. Truth be told, she had fallen into a river of thoughts. So, the passing of time had interested her very little, if any at all. The diva allowed herself to shake her head. A bit of clarity of her mind was needed currently.
Suddenly, the sound of the helicopter whirling reached her. Driven by pure curiosity, she came to the balcony windows, scanning the skies. Quite surprisingly, she could not see any aircraft nearby. She looked throughout the horizon, yet it did not change the outcome. The helicopter was nowhere to be seen. Still, the sound was coming closer and closer.
"Eve, it is time," Akali's voice sounded a couple of meters behind the magenta-haired beauty.
"I assume… your team's responsible for that whirling sound?" Evelynn asked, picking her words carefully. Only now realising that soon she would be surrounded by the finest soldiers Germany could field.
"Yes," the burgundy-haired woman replied with a quick node. "Quite extraordinary, but they wanted to be here as soon as possible," she added.
"I see," the siren responded.
"Believe me, you do not," the blue-eyed woman uttered with a small smile. "I do not want this, but… I need to ask you for a small favour," Akali spoke, looking hesitant, conflicted.
"What would it be?" the diva asked, swallowing a heavy gulp.
"Ehh…," the soldier sighed heavily whilst scratching her nape. "I need to put a blindfold on you. You are not allowed to see where we are going, at least not yet," she provided a bit of explanation.
"Oh… I see," Eve uttered, lowering her gaze slightly. "If it's required, then go on."
The next minutes passed quickly. Firstly, her sight was covered by the soft black blindfold. Then, Akali guided her toward the roof of the building, holding her hand all the time. Soon enough, she began hearing the word rapidly spoken in German. Truth be told, she understood little to none of what the people around her were speaking. Yet another few moments, and she found herself situated comfortably inside the helicopter.
"The next stage of your life begins now, Eve," she reminded herself inside her mind.
The magenta-haired woman tried to focus on the warmth of Akali's hand. The burgundy-haired girl still held her, trying to reassure the diva that she had made the right decision. Her stomach shrunk instantly as soon as they took off. She had every right to be suspicious, afraid. After all, she was blindfolded, flying inside the helicopter to an unknown destination.
Yet another heavy gulp was swallowed as the diva tried to calm down. Sadly, her efforts were fruitless as she was not able to relax. All she had inside her head were the blackest scenarios.
