Flashback
Mrs Betson was at the bar, she had ordered two coffees, one for herself and one for the doctor, and hot milk for her daughter. Back in the room, she took the box of her pills from her bag, she used to open a package and put a couple in her little package to avoid carrying the whole box with her.
But when he opened it he didn't notice that some of the pills, no one knows how many, had ended up in one of the coffee cups. Just the cup that she then unwittingly gave to the doctor.
Dr. Halstead's day was going well, he had a long shift that day.
In the late afternoon, however, something changed, he no longer felt as energetic and happy as in the morning, but he didn't worry much about it. He had been working since eight in the morning, it was about five, he had been seeing patients for almost nine hours and attributed the problem to fatigue.
He was surprised when he needed to rest by sitting down for a moment talking to a patient.
Usually he managed all those hours on his feet well, in fact he was used to seeing the many overtime he did because he needed the money.
- Do you mind if I sit down? So did you understand what your condition is? Do you have any questions? - he asked him.
- Yes, I understand, so with drugs I should solve this continuous itching? he asked
- Yes exactly, keeping the points that bother you clean, do not use irritants and apply the ointment twice a day. Halstead said
- Okay, thank you doctor.
Will got up and left the room. Yes he felt in pieces, as if he had hoed all day.
He decided to take a break and sat down near the nurses' station. Yes rubbed his eyes yawning.
- Hey, are you all right? Meggie asked him. - I've never seen you so broken.
- Yeah, I don't know, I feel a little tired. he replied.
- Why don't you go home to rest and leave earlier today? said the nurse
- Well, I'm almost done my shift now. There is about an hour and a half left and then I'll be done. - Will told her.
- Ok okay, as you like. Do one thing so you get some rest. There are these folders to update and fix. I warn you if there is any new arrival. replied Maggie.
He knew the doctor would never accept. He had always hated office work, he was a doctor because he loved being in contact with patients, treating them and seeing them improve until they were well.
But not that day.
- Okay - Will said.
What had happened to his friend so sunny and full of life? It was no longer him, just his draft.
He was tired, but was it just that?
