Ice Cream Confessions

"Subaruuu, hurry up or else I am gonna win." Says a brown haired girl with olive green eyes as she speeds up. She bustles and weaves her way around the crowd, giggling all the time as her coworker stumbles and fails to catch up. She thinks to herself:

"This race was rigged from the start, nothing a spectacular lady like myself cannot foresee! Left, Right, avoid this couple and away we gooo."

Giggles the young maiden as she increases her speed, making sure to breathe in and out evenly to keep her posture steady and flexible. Since both her and Subaru always exercise before or after work, this was no issue for the both of them.

A black haired boy with fearsome eyes is panting heavily as he keeps jogging steady to try to keep up with this trickster in front of him. They are both currently running in Tokyo, Japan on their day off.

Their boss Flugel had given them the day off after all the help they gave him yesterday. So both of them had nothing to do until Shaula suggested a race to their favorite ice cream restaurant.

Subaru, while craving a particular flavor of ice cream, decided to go ahead and accept the wager.

Both of them started this fun and entertaining race from the park they usually work out at, to the ice cream shop that is twenty minutes away.

They got in positions as an adorable purple haired girl held a whistle in her mouth. She looked at both participants whose eyes were shining with determination and nodded before asking:

"Are you two ready?!"

"This first class lady was born ready Melli-Chan! Blow the whistle so that I can leave this loser in the dust!" Replies back a confident Shaula.

"Not today Shaula-San! You may have won the previous time but I am feeling quite lucky today!" Also answers a smirking Subaru as he strikes his signature pose and states: " I, Natsuki Subaru, shall win this race and the loser will pay for the other's ice cream!"

Shaula saw the fire in the boys eyes as her heart skipped a beat while thinking to herself:

"Never change Subaru, I will make sure to treasure and nurture that smile, because that is what an Ace does!"

Subaru looked at the pumped up Shaula bouncing around with her frenetic energy as he also held similar thoughts:

Being around Shaula is always such a lively endeavor, the passion she gets from the simplest of things always brings joy to my heart. She looks particularly beautiful today, with her scorpion ponytail and in her orange and green tracksuit.

Which suit those beautiful forest green eyes of hers. Whenever she smiles at me I feel something unclench inside my heart. I am not sure what these feelings are. Bu-"

"Ready, Set, GOOO!" Roars an enthusiastic Melli as she blows the whistle, and Shaula takes off at shocking speeds while Subaru is caught in his own thoughts. Melli frowns and shouts:

"Subaru-San, are you already admitting defeat, Big Sis Shaula has already left you in the dust I see!"

The black haired boy's eyes widen in shock as he realizes he has been day dreaming again. As he curses his distracted thoughts he takes off and the chase is on.

After ten minutes and using various shortcuts throughout alleyways the duo were neck to neck in speed, as their running shoes slapped the concrete and they both dodged with ease the crowd that had gathered in the plaza where the ice cream shop was located.

Shaula saw that Subaru was gaining and smirked a little as she 'accidentally' bumped into him, causing him to falter in his steps and crash against a trash can.

"So sad, too bad Subaruu, better luck next time!" Laughs a victorious Shaula as she managed to touch the door to the ice cream confectionery first.

"Hey you cheated, that isn't fair!" Complains a visibly annoyed boy who was rubbing his nose that has suffered light damage upon colliding with the plastic trash can.

Otherwise, he was in perfect health and no injuries present. Subaru felt it was unfair and wanted to complain but upon seeing the grin and victory pose of this brown haired trickster, his smile formed and he just sighed.

"Forget about it, I guess I will let this slide since it was fun, and it has been awhile since we had a race, Shaula-Tan." Remarks the boy without noticing how his way of addressing her caused the naïve maiden cheeks to redden considerably. She grins to herself and thinks:

"No sir, this first class lady is not blushing because of being called Shaula-Tan. Hehe, what a cute boy you are Subaru, making this Ace flush as red as an Appa."

Subaru noticed Shaula having a weird and dopey smile while her face was red and was concerned to see if maybe she was not feeling well, right when he was about to reply, a playful voice sounded from the counter of the ice cream shop they had just walked into:

"Weeelcoome to the Mathers Gelato & Sweets Confectionery, I am the owner of this humble shop, Roswall L. Mathers. Hooow may I help you today?"

Subaru and Shaula both greet Roswall in different manners:

"Ros-Chi long time no see. How's that cute drill loli doing?" Subaru inquires as he searches around for his favorite loli so he can greet her and give her a head pat.

"Hey there Clown bro, I as well as Subaru want some chocolate ice cream, butterscotch cookies with strawberry milkshakes pleasee." Responds Shaula as her belly rumbles and drool starts slowly forming in her mouth, which Subaru notices and uses his handkerchief to wipe it away.

Here the oddly dressed man just smiles and says:

"Noot an Issue for my loyal custoomers, Subaru-kun and Shaula-Chan sit whereeever you both please. I will have Beatrice bring you what you ordered soon."

With that statement Roswall heads back to let Rem and Ram know what to make, both of them dressed with aprons and their sleeves rolled up from the dough and flour used to make the cookies.

Milk, yogurt, cacao seeds, and several other ingredients used to make such a wide assortment of sweets.

"Rem-nii, Rem-nii, It's that boy you like. I wish you had better taste in men, instead of that pervert Barasu." Replies a pink haired girl with a look of annoyance on her face, while preparing to make the cookies.

"Sister, don't be so mean we don't know much about him, only that he seems to always smile and brighten everyone's day while making the environment lively." Answers a blue haired girl that looks very similar to her sister, with a faint blush on her face at being so easily called out, she starts preparing the ice cream.

Some time passes and Subaru and Shaula are sitting down and making jokes of their previous workday when a cute voice pipes up:

"Here is all that you ordered, I suppose. That will be three thousand yen, in fact."

Subaru's eyes widen in joy at his favorite little server. In front of him is a drill haired loli with cyan colored eyes which instead of pupils, have pink butterflies. Dressed with a cute cerulean beret and pink frilly dress she presents them their sweets and shakes.

"Beako-Chan it has been awhile but you look just as adorable as ever. Have you been well?" Inquires a happy Subaru as he hands her the money. Shaula merely grunts in acknowledgement as her mouth is full of cookies.

"Hmph! Betty does not need anyone to worry about her, in fact. However it is nice you are thinking of this cute girl, I suppose." Utters almost to herself a pouting drill loli with slightly red cheeks, due to her stubborn pride of accepting compliments.

Until suddenly, she feels a hand patting her head. In wonder she turns around to see a black haired boy smiling as brilliant as the morning sunrise.

"Beako-Chan do not worry, if ever you need something just tell me and I will strive my utmost to accomplish it! Have faith in your big bro!"

"Whos.. Whose big brother are you, in fact! Hmph I have to get going as more customers have arrived, but I will be back to make sure the food and beverages are to your satisfaction, I suppose." Remarks a drill loli whose cheeks are burning red at being told she can rely on someone as trustworthy as this new big bro of hers.

She goes to inquire to a certain verdant haired woman, her trusty man servant, and a boy dressed up with cat ears who had just come into their confectionery what they wanted to eat.

"Crusch-Sama nyah, apparently this place is all the rage. Anastasia and Julius-kun gave their approval. SO we must check it out. I wonder if they have a banana split!" Shouts out excitedly a certain cat-like individual.

"Felix-San is correct Lady Crusch, Theresia came here with Carol and enjoyed their parfaits tremendously. Raving at me that I should at least try it once." States a stoic old man, with a fond smile on his face as he recalls everything his still adorable wife had said.

Crusch nods her head and smiles softly at the now composed drill loli.

"Hello there, myself and my companions wish to try this fine confectionery out. Where do we order?"

"Right this way, I suppose. Betty will show you the menu and you can order whatever you and your companions desire, in fact."

With that statement the trio followed Beatrice to the counter where Roswall took their orders.

Crusch was impressed with the manners the drill loli has displayed, and crouched down so they could be at eye level while remarking:

"Aren't you quite the adorable little girl, it brings me pleasure to have met you and I am impressed with your composure. What do you say, want me to be your older sister?"

"Baah, Betty already has an Big brot.. Wait no that is not right, I wonder. Aghh Betty is rather flustered, I suppose. Never mind follow Betty to Roswall to place your orders, I suppose."

Sputters out a red faced loli as she kept sneaking glances to where her big bro was laughing and smiling with Shaula.

Felix and Wilhelm share a glance and a small laugh and their pouting leader and place their hands on her shoulders while nodding to what seemed like a delicious raspberry gelato, making the green haired women soon brighten her spirits.

While this was happening Shaula and Subaru were done eating and sighed in contentment. Shaula noticed that somehow Subaru had gotten some milkshake on his cheek and proceeded to rub it off with a napkin.

The action surprised Subaru and made him realize how close in proximity they were to each other. Arms touching each other, and ankles intertwined. Somehow Subaru did not have the urge to move away, and neither did the green eyed maiden. As she gazes at Subaru she smiles brightly and says:

"Hey Subaruu, this doesn't feel like a bet anymore, but a date! I always wanted to go on one. Would you consider this a date?"

Suddenly being put on the spot flusters the young man, but while looking at the adoring gaze that this young lady has for him it firms his resolve and he manages to barely get himself under control as he shyly responds back:

"Hmm, well I." He takes several more breaths before opening his eyes and smiling confidently, causing Shaula's heart to skip another beat. And finally responds with determination:

"I would certainly like to consider this a date. And I would definitely want another one with you Shaula-Tan!"

Here Shaula freezes as her face turns Appa red again, but she composes herself like the first class lady she is and responds back:

"Subaruu, are you asking me to be your girlfriend by chance? I hear only couples go on consecutive dates, or at the very least people that want that bond. I await your answer like the Ace I am with relish."

Subaru felt as if his back was against a wall and a sword to his throat but he decided to double down. He already knew he had some kind of feelings for Shaula. Working together for several years, both being punished and rewarded by their boss.

The shared glances, the hidden smiles directed between each other. The ease with how they can be standing mere inches from each other and feel happy and not weirded out or embarrassed speaks volumes of each other's affection towards the other.

The duo working out and exercising saw each other every day and always felt comfortable around each other. More than with any other person. And he believes that she may feel the same way. So again clearing his throat he grasps her hand and declares:

"Yes I would like nothing more than that Shaula-Tan. Your self-confidence and the way you smile at anything this world throws at you awes me, your determination to not let anything get in your way. And especially when that smile is directed at me, I crave more of that. I wish to see your smile directed my way every day. Starting here and now. So Shaula, would you like to be my girlfriend?"

The boy quivers in expectation since he had never done such a thing, confessing one's interest in another person should be easy right? He thinks to himself:

Then why does it feel like I would rather work two days straight then ever have to repeat that. I think, I hope to not be met with rejection. We work together. It would be so awkward. Maybe I made-!"

A pair of firm yet soft lips meet his own, and a hand grasps his cheek and strokes it caressingly. The kiss deepens as Shaula presses forward, exploring the lips she has been wanting to for so long.

Subaru was shocked at first but his instincts allowed him to carry on the kiss, until he opened his eyes and saw Beatrice staring with a red face in embarrassment at having to witness such a public display of affection.

They both separated almost as quick as their brief kiss was. And if one was paying attention, they could hear a blue haired girl's soft shriek as she passes out.

Shaula was a bit abashed but not ashamed at what she had done. It is her right as a girlfriend to display her affection for her Subaru, is it not so? She looks at Subaru and thinks while smiling fondly and holding his hand:

"The boy in front of me can be so dense, but someone as spectacular as I always has the patience needed. Thinking back I fell for him a couple of months after we started working together.

My Subaru has such good qualities and he doesn't even realize them. I smile remembering his tireless work ethic and how he manages to uplift the spirit of everyone in the room. What a dumb dumb he is, I will make sure to straighten that out in the future we share together."

"See ya later Beako-Chan. Don't forget to holler at me if you need anything, after all I am your big bro." Says Subaru in farewell as he gives a pouting but secretly happy drill loli a head pat.

"Very well, I wonder. Do not forget to come visit from time to time, in fact. Betty gets lonely and your foolish antics are quite amusing, I suppose." States a red faced yet smiling Beatrice, which make Subaru by instinct grab her and twirl her around.

As she is shouting in both annoyance and in having fun, a pouting Crusch can be seen from a corner eating her raspberry gelato. Felix is eating his banana split with relish, and Wilhelm is enjoying the same parfait his lovely red haired wife recommended for him.

"No wonder she would not accept my offer to bond closer, turns out she had an elder brother already. Well that makes me slightly better." Says a smiling Crusch as she continues to enjoy the unique environment and delicious sweets offered at the Mathers Gelato and ice cream and confectionery.

A pink haired girl can be seen putting her passed out sister on a chair as she smirks at the black haired boy's actions, while secretly thanking that her sister would not end up with such a fool.

A clown, or rather owner of such a sweets confectionery can be seen looking at the boy and girl that are leaving with narrowed eyes. He grins and with delight awaits their next visit.

With that both Subaru and Shaula smiled, and walked out hand in hand from the confectionary, waiting to see what the future would bring to them both.

(Bonus Scene Time Skip 5 years)

Subaru can be seen coming home from work with slight bags under his eyes. Ever since inheriting Flugel's business he has become more busy, but he is still happy because when he is home he can be with his family.

Just as he was putting his shoes up an over excited barefoot toddler of 5 years was running towards him. His eyes crinkled in joy as he kneeled and held his hands out and received the mewling toddler with a firm hug.

"Papa, Papa, you are back yaaay!" Shouts in jubilation a black haired and emerald eyed girl with a ferocious gaze. Subaru always thinks it's funny that his daughter inherited her mother's eyes, yet kept the same narrowed shaped gaze that befell his mom's side of the family.

"It's such a joy to see you Lambda, I hope you have been a good girl?" Asks the father with a stern expression even if it was all for show. His cute daughter's eyes widen up, showing the three red dots in her irises as she continued:

"Me and Mama always have fun, we were playing board games and I even helped her put the clothes up!"

Subaru gives her daughter some head pats as his grin brightens up like the sun. As he was playing with his daughter footsteps could be heard and another voice was heard, interrupting their brief reunion:

"Husband, help this spectacular wife with dinner since you are here. Also welcome home my love."

Shaula steps up to one of the joys of her life, the second being the tiny daughter they have, and planted a firm kiss on his lips. Subaru was slightly flustered and Lambda just squealed in joy.

As all three members hugged each other Lambda remembered something and screamed in delight, alerting Subaru as he checked over his daughter to make sure she wasn't harmed, she went ahead and dropped another bomb on his head:

"Papa, I am going to have a brother to play with, I am so excited. Can I hold him and give him kisses on his cheek and rub his head for good luck?"

It was like all the air was knocked out of Subaru as he just looked at his wife to confirm this news. Shaula grinned and rubbed her belly affectionately and stated:

'Yes Sirr, you went ahead and did another bang up job Hubby. Remember before our vows I did say I wanted a basketball team worth of kids."

Shaula pulled her Subaru and their daughter into a big hug. As the family of three looked like it was getting another Natsuki added.

"Well at least Mom and Dad will be ecstatic. This is fantastic. I love you Shaula-Tan, And I love you Lambda, I am sure this house will get even more lively." Chuckled Subaru as they all smiled and went to prepare and eat dinner.

Smiling brightly in joy and anticipation at the thought of another little one running around.

This was a fan fiction contest idea done in Reactionist's server, and I was lucky enough to win first place despite other good fic contests. I decided to upload it as an Interlude, Omake, whatever to keep the Shaula love being spread. Now next chapter will be Shaula and Subaru leaving the tower and it will be out by May 1st at the latest.
