A week later, I was waiting for Star to come to school. She was usually there by that time. I had a gut feeling something was off. Sure enough, I noticed her far away stepping closer to me, holding hands with Justin while the two looked at each other lovingly. I rolled my eyes and the pair came up to me.
"Hey Paulina," Justin said with a smile.
"You're finally talking to me nice?" I asked.
"Of course. I wouldn't be with my favorite Star if you didn't bug me."
Star gave him a hug and Justin smiled, waiving at Star before going into the building. I shook my head while Star's back was turned.
"I thought you were just going on a date," I said.
"We were," Star replied with a laugh. "That was before we found out."
"Found out what?"
"How much we like spending time together."
"Well, I'm a little tired of you ogling each other."
"You probably would do the same thing if it was you he was dating."
"Hardly. I'm not so easily impressed."
"You're just mad because Justin's with me and Jordan's with his babysitter."
I rolled my eyes as we went into the building. When classes were completed, I looked for Star in the hallway to no avail. I went outside and saw her hugging Justin tightly.
"Get a room," I yelled at the pair.
"Get a pacifier," Star said with a laugh. "At least then you'd be muffled."
"Shut up. I was wondering if you wanted to come with me to Jordan's house."
"No. I'll see him later. Justin's taking me to a movie."
I went behind a tree and changed into my ghost form, flying into Jordan's bedroom and not seeing him anywhere. I reverted to my human form and stepped out of the room, spotting Jordan in the hallway with Jazz.
"So this is the famous babysitter I've heard so much about?" I asked.
"Nice to see you too, Paulina," Jazz replied. "Danny sends his regards."
"I gave him my number right after we all found out he was a ghost, but he never called back."
"He doesn't want to talk to you. I thought he told you that."
"Yeah, like ten times. I didn't think he was serious."
"Well he was."
Jazz lifted Jordan into her arms as the latter smiled.
"Jordan," I called the boy's name, "I thought you wanted to spend time with me."
"I do, but I haven't spent any time with Jazz and I should, especially considering she's my new babysitter and her mom is Justin's boss."
I looked at him with surprise and quietly withdrew from the house. After telephoning Star for their location, I found Justin and Star in her bedroom.
"What's this I hear about you becoming Danny's mom's assistant?" I asked Justin.
"I could use the experience," Justin replied.
"Are you sure it's not to get closer to her hot daughter?"
"Even if it were, why does it matter to you?"
I didn't respond as Star gave me a curious look. I left the house soon after and went home. The next day at school, I noticed a woman wearing glasses and a red suit as she was walking into a dark room. She looked shady and I noticed she didn't turn on the room's light after walking in. I came behind her and saw a black ghost hovering in the room. I then switched to my ghost form.
"A second half ghost?" The ghost said in a feminine voice.
"That's right," I said.
"I'm Spectra. I'd ask your name but it doesn't matter."
Spectra rushed over to me and I dodged her. She then punched me in the stomach and threw me to the ground.
"You're not the one I'm looking for," Spectra said, as her neutral look turned into a smile. "But I'm very confident you're going to help me."
She phased out of the room and I breathed a sigh of relief. I actually put up a fight against a ghost. I tried to go about the rest of the school day without making much out of what happened until I could talk to somebody I trusted. I caught Justin and Star giving each other flirty eyes and instantly flew to Jordan's house, entering through his bedroom like always.
"Paulina," Jordan said with a smile, before he noticed my face. "What's wrong?"
"I got into my first fight with another ghost," I answered.
"I hope you aren't hurt."
"Just a little but I'll be okay."
"Next time I'll help you."
I laughed right after his promise. This boy chasing me around as I fight bad guys?
"I know how to use my powers really good and I want to help you," Jordan said, looking into my eyes with an intensity assuring his sincerity.
"Okay," I said. "I'll let you know the next time I go looking for her."
He smiled and the two of us spent the rest of the afternoon watching movies. Jazz was there but she didn't stay in the room with us or hardly say anything to me. The following day, I went snooping around that same part of the building that I saw Spectra in when Justin, Star, and Sam walked past me. They didn't say a word and it was weird seeing Sam and Star together, two people that I thought despised each other. I rushed up to the three and shook my head.
"You guys completely ignored me," I said.
"Sorry," Sam replied, looking at Justin and Star. "I was addressing more pleasant people."
"Can I borrow Justin?"
He looked at Star and walked over to me. Sam and Star walked onward.
"Why are you hanging out with Sam?" I asked.
"Because she's nice," Justin replied. "Now what did you really want to borrow me for?"
"I fought a ghost yesterday. I don't know if I can beat her alone. Jordan wanted to help me, but I don't want that baby to get hurt."
"I don't either. Alright, I'll help you."
His attitude went from playful to serious the moment his brother's name came out of my mouth. We walked into the room and he leaned against the wall.
"I do want us to become friends," Justin said. "It's just that you've been very mean to me and I can't pretend that didn't happen, even if my brother loved you."
"I understand," I replied. "At least you'll talk to me. Danny's the only other half ghost I know and he won't say a word to me."
"We'll find a way to get him to budge. Having his girlfriend as your friend will help in that regard."
Suddenly, the door closed on us and I felt my neck being squeezed. Spectra revealed herself and Justin grabbed her from the back, throwing her against a wall. He proceeded to punch her in the face and land more blows as I changed into my ghost form. Justin stopped as Spectra stood.
"Aren't you going to keep hitting me?" Spectra asked.
"I would if they actually hurt you," Justin replied.
"I know about your brother's powers, and yours."
Spectra moved over to me and smiled.
"Remember how I said you would be useful?" She asked, me nodding my head.
Spectra changed to a human form with fair skin, green eyes, and red hair with a U-shape. She had a red suit with a jacket, skirt, and high heels. Spectra looked at Justin with a sinister smile and he found himself slowly being pulled toward her. I moved to attack Spectra, but the latter shot me with a blast. Justin's chest touched Spectra's and the pair were engulfed in a circle. When it was over, Spectra stepped out with darker skin and hair and was just a little shorter than Justin.
"What did you do to him?" I asked.
She came up to me and smiled.
"I am him," she said. "I guess you can call me Juspectra. I'll be the last person you see alive."
