Quick recap: David received his wish of being transported into the world of his favourite series, Overlord. He is a lvl 100 demonic being, with some angelic traits. His weapon is Ascalon is a world class greatsword. He found himself in the Slane Theocracy. After getting to know the elf slave Syr, he decided to let her follow him until he finds some safe place for her to stay. Azur promised the elven slaves liberation in the near future, and they teleported into the capital city, Kami Miyako where they found the prodigy healer, Katalin. After some light encouragement from David, she swore eternal loyalty.
The sun has been going downwards once the duo woke up from their peaceful sleep inside Katalin's mansion. Azur decided that in order to let the healer know her position in their relationship, he would sleep in her bed while she would 'stand guard' and defend him, of course it was symbolic only. He remembered reading somewhere that a disloyal dog learned their place after the owner sat down into their bed. He was pretty confident that Katalin would not dare betray him after seeing his true form, but it was always nice to signal who the dominant party was in this kind of setting between the two. Once she proved her loyalty by not doing anything negative for a few months he would stop. Maybe. Probably not, as his demonic nature loved the symbolic play of dominance by sleeping in the owner's bed while they are standing in one place, guarding his peaceful slumber.
After getting some warm food, which made the malnourished elf girl shed tears of joy, they stepped out of the mansion. As his first mission for Katalin, David asked about Zesshi's information, however, the healer didn't know anyone by this name. Hmm… in the novels she barely had any screen time, so I don't really know what to expect, but if I remember correctly she is a battle maniac.. Or am I switching her with someone? Anyways, I am a bit worried. If she really is as strong as I think she is, she may be a danger to my life, and I have no experience dealing with situations where my entire existence is on the line… Hope I won't start trembling and running without any dignity…
Katalin could at least tell him where the treasury was, which is where he expected the halfling to be. "Syr, I can see that you are tense. You are acting exactly like an elf would who tries to hide their identity. Ease up a bit, or you can stay at the mansion, as we go into the heart of enemy territory. I may not be able to save you if we get surrounded."
Hearing his scolding, the elf girl whimpered, and tried to adjust her posture, hoping that will alleviate some concerns… With little success. "Azur-sama, if it comes to it please leave me to my fate. You have already given me everything and more I could ask for. If I can help just a little bit in bringing down this evil nation, I will die with a bright smile."
Seeing her eyes burn with passion for their shared goal filled him with content, but he knew there was little reason to bring a defenseless elf into the fray of battle. She would most likely hinder him instead of help, but as this was the first day of Katalin's servitude he didn't feel too confident leaving her there alone either. He knew that he would try to help her out as much as he could, but he was very aware of his human nature, which would for sure save his own skin first and then try to help others. Now that he turned into an actual demon, this feeling only grew. His desires first, as long as he could help others while achieving his own goals it was good for his own mental, but if leaving her to her fate meant living another day, he was certain he would do it.
A great discovery during he made was that he also had the hidden inventory like the Nazarick citizens, so he could put away Ascalon, his mighty World Class item, which would stand out waaaay too much as it levitated behind his back. He put in some food as well as some medical supplies, but he knew that his {Healing Touch}, a Solar class skill, could treat anything those could.. But it would save his mana at least. Lastly, his divine class equipment was also in his inventory, but as he found out, God gifted him with a ring which allowed him to select one of each equipment slots on his body to be equipped in an instant, this let him feel safe in his low level traveler rags.
Today's goal was exploration only, as David has obviously never been to the capital, and the novels didn't really reach this arc yet either, so he had zero knowledge of the land. Syr on the other hand, has only been to the capital briefly, she was quickly sold to Cardinal Dominic and she has been living at the same place ever since.
The duo decided that first they would check out how life is inside the capitol, while trying to see if they could spot any scripture members, but that was basically grasping at straws as David only remembered Nigun's face. Thinking of Nigun, what is his fate now that Nazarick doesn't exist? Will he kill Gazef and return safely? Or is this an alternate universe where the timeline doesn't match with the novel's? I will need to investigate later.
For the first few hours nothing out of the ordinary happened. The city seemed to be your average medieval one, with the added extreme amount of slaves walking in chains. However, a loud man's voice could be heard from the middle of a large square. "The next item is a rare one, ladies and gentlemen! Young, barely any experience! Siblings that 'graduated' our training school together. How romantic, helping each other out! The female one is ripe for child bearing, look at her hips! The other one has an athletic, well fed body for its kind, he will be able to do exemplary work in the mines! Serious buyers with enough coins in their bags may come up to the podium and inspect the wares out from close up!"
A loud cheering erupted in the crowd. It seemed like fresh elves were considered rare. David knew he could not make a scene yet. If he didn't save the ones at the plantation, he would surely not go for the ones in the middle of the capitol, most likely watched by some secret scripture members. Syr however, seemed to think otherwise. Her little fists were clenched, trembling with frustration. Azur leaned towards her, and whispered: "The time will come. Hold it in for the time being."
With a slight nod from the elf, Azur decided it was time to retire for the day. Upon returning to the mansion, Katalin greeted them, with a bow. "How was your day, Azur-sama, Syr-sama? Did you find anything useful? If I may inquire, of course."
The obedience seemed to ooze off of the woman, amusing the demon. "We didn't find anything noteworthy yet, but we didn't check out the treasury yet. Maybe tomorrow. How did your day go, did you find anything?"
"As per your instructions I tried to search for this mysterious Zesshi Zetsumei, I even contacted some private information broker acquaintances of mine. Even they didn't provide anything useful. I would believe her not to exist, but as Azur-sama seems sure of it who am I to contradict that fact?"
A slight smile appeared on the demon's face. It would've been helpful getting some information before the encounter, but it seems the Theocracy is really good at hiding their trump card. Guess it is time for me to visit the treasury.
After Syr went to sleep, and Azur letting Katalin occupy her own bed now, he decided it was time for his solo mission. As it was night he decided equipping his divine armor would be smart, as high level scripture members may jump him any time and he wasn't that confident in his reaction time to equip the armor with the ring, as it still required a mental command.
With the surveillance during daytime, he quickly maneuvered his way towards his destination, staying in the shadows. Besides some drunkards shouting, the night was eerily quiet for such a large city. As he was about to cast {Perfect Unknowable} a voice called out to him.
"Hooh what are you doing here, warrior~? Sneaking around in the shadows is a bit suspicious… And you are so lousy, I could hear you from a 100 meters away, ehehe~! Maybe unequip that heavy armor before you decide to do some thieving." Azur was startled, he froze up for a second, before turning around. Before him was the one and only Zesshi Zetsumei, his current goal. With her mischievous smile, she was trying to measure up her potential enemy. The reply was not exactly what she expected, far from it to be honest.
"I came to recruit you, Zesshi."
She seemed to be startled. "How do you know my name? It is a national secret… Outside the scripture leaders and the cardinals no one is supposed to know of my existence… Did I secretly become famous?" She returned to her playful attitude quickly.
"Yes-yes, sadly for my source is secret for now." She seemed to pout at the answer, it was probably really surprising for a stranger to know of her.
"Anyways, why would I join you, huh? I am the secret weapon of humanity!" She seemed to be really proud of her achievement.
"You do realize you are half-elf, right, Zesshi?" the warrior before her had a perplexed expression, as if not understanding her pride. She had been hiding her shameful ears by letting her hair cover them, even most scripture members didn't know of her origin, and this stranger seemed to read her like a book.
"Interesting, most interesting! At the very least, your intel is superb, budget thief. Yeah, I am sadly half human only. What of it?" The confusion seemed to grow on the man's face, much to her frustrations. It felt as if she was missing some vital information.
"You have elven blood, and you willingly work for the Theocracy? I can't wrap my head around this fact. You do realize how this nation treats elves, right?"
"Well yes, of course, I am not dumb, you idiot." She was an idiot. "They are used as slaves in order to boost our economy, which lets us fight for the survival of humanity." She seemed to be really happy with her answer, signalled by the proud smile on her face. Much to her frustrations, she could almost see question marks pop up on the man's face by this point. "What?! Stop making that face! Makes me feel uncomfortable.."
"But you are an elf as well, partly at the very least. Do you know what your fate would be, if you were born powerless into your wonderful nation? As many other halflings are born here..." She thought hard for a second, which was unusual for her to say the least. Following orders was much easier.
"I would be… uh… I don't know. Probably a foot soldier? How would I know? I am not a seer, you know!" A loud sigh left the budget thief's mouth.
"Now it is clear. You are a dumbass, as I expected." This was the first time anyone dared to insult her, ever since she was born. With a quick step, she lounged at the man, without drawing her weapon. She would just smash the man out of existence. Or at least that was supposed to happen, as the man caught her palm with one hand and caught her throat by the other, incapacitating her.
"Listen here, Zesshi. You would be a fucking slave. If you were lucky you would clean some human's house, but judging by your appealing bodily features, there is a high chance you would also warm your owner's bed. If you were unlucky, you would be sold to a brothel, getting raped to boost some rich bastard's purse, while praying to not get pregnant, or too used to not be wanted by the 'customers' as then you would be discarded like a trash bag. Wake the fuck up!" Seeing the anger in the man's eyes, Zesshi didn't know how to feel. Why was this human so angry at her? She was still processing what was said. The warrior let go of her throat, as he felt the murderous intent leave her body, only a puzzled expression was left on her, as her gears turned. Slowly. Very slowly. "My name is Azur El Exodus, meet me tomorrow morning in this spot. Come in disguise, I will show you the conditions you would face, and what your kin is dealing with every single day."
When Syr woke up, she decided to go to the kitchen area, where she met the glorious form of her saviour. Katalin was serving some beverage to their master, she seemed much happier than before. Perhaps she finally truly accepted her fate as a demon's servant. Before she could take another step, Azur spoke up. "During the night, I made contact with the target. We will meet in an hour. She seems really oblivious to the living conditions of other elves, so I will show her what she is 'missing'. Can you handle that, Syr? You can stay here if you wish so."
Syr was surprised, learning the master was acting without her help, and she let it know with a cute pout. "Why didn't you wake me Azur-sama, I-I want to help you… Or am I so useless? As for your question, I think I can handle it… Probably…"
The girl's expression lifted Azur's spirits, as he let out a small chuckle, before turning serious. "Useless? Not entirely, but in a battle situation you are a hindrance." Syr knew this to be the truth, but hearing it from his mouth still saddened her.
"Anyways, don't be sad. Now that you are free, if you wish to make yourself in the future educate yourself. For my goals I will need assistance from smart and learned people who I can trust. Katalin, give her some books related to economics, rulership, governing, these sorts."
With a slight nod, Katalin simply replied: "As the master wishes." and left to find some relevant reads in her library.
"Syr, if you wish to come, then get ready."
Azur was somewhat surprised to meet the cloaked form of Zesshi at the spot he told her to be. He had slight worries that the entire Theocracy army would wait in ambush, but luckily Zesshi's interest in their topic seemed to outweigh her loyalty to the Cardinals. She was surprised to see another small cloaked figure walking behind Azur, similar to her, she had a hood on.
"I am here, Azur El Exodus, this better be worth my time! Is that an elf? And you lectured me about slaves…" Hearing her remarks, the cloaked figure stepped forward, after gaining enough confidence to face this monster in a cute girl's body, she started lecturing her
"I am a free person, I will have you know! Azur-sama broke my shackles. Call my Syr, I assume you are Zesshi… Azur-sama seems to hold you in high regards, please don't disappoint him, okay~? The irritating response from the weak little elf girl made Zesshi get angrier, but before a catfight could break out between the two, Azur stepped in.
"Please, just call my Azur. And Syr, better not anger this one when I am not around, as she is by far the strongest entity I am aware of, rivaling even the Dragon Lords." Hearing the praising words, a "hmpf" could be heard from the halfling. "Come then, let us march towards our first point of interest, a slave brothel."
Once they found said establishment, which was not difficult as the capitol had one on almost every corner, they entered. The receptionist looked strangely at the three customers. "Good sir, how may I help you? I see you already have two female companions, based on their height at least… Hard to tell with the hood on. Anyways, I am not paid to ask these questions… Just tell me how I can serve you."
"Just send us to one of your whores. 1 hour will do." With the short reply, the receptionist's eyes perked up. He wasn't sure if he could make coins from this strange bunch, but they seemed to be interested in his wares after all.
"A threesome, good sir? You certainly know how to live a good life! I am kinda envious, hehehe. Any preferences?"
"Any will do."
"Certainly, sir. One silver coin will be the price for an hour. If you leave some marks which are treatable by the priests then another 5 silvers will be required. In case you hurt her beyond repair, we ask for a platinum coin. Take the stairs, then on the second floor, use the fourth room. This key will open the door. The item will soon arrive as well."
Without saying a word, the three left for the room. Once inside, they found a relatively small room, with a bed taking up most of the space. Next to the bed multiple playthings could be seen, such as a whip, multiple chains, gags and a few more extreme 'toys' as well, such as a hammer, and a plier. The wall was decorated by helpful accessories which could be used to chain the girl into the desired position. Syr started trembling, as she sensed how brutal this place must be, but Zesshi didn't seem to get it yet. Knocking could be heard on their door. Azur opened it, and he was greeted by a well dressed elf. She was smiling, but that could only be fake in this kind of situation. Before saying anything, the girl went on all fours, planting her head on the ground.
"Master, this toy is Elena, at your service."
Azur looked back at Zesshi, who had a perplexed expression on her face. Hopefully even she would soon realize what would await her if she lost her powers. "Come in, come in Elena." Without looking back up, she started crawling into the room. "See Zesshi, the masters, in this case us, didn't tell her to stand up, or even look up, she was taught to enter the room in this position in such a case." After she crawled inside, Azur closed and locked the door. Syr not being able to take the elf's degradation anymore, jumped at her, giving her a warm hug. With a trembling voice, she said "I am so sorry for you Elena. So-so sorry. And I thought I had it bad! This place makes my blood boil!"
Elena didn't know what to make of the situation. The man seemed to be the usual customer, showing her no mercy. She felt lucky that the man didn't step or spit on her while she crawled into the room. This girl however, was so out of place. Upon looking up, she noticed that she was her kin. "W-what is going on? A-a-am I not here to pleasure?" With slight hope in heart, she awaited the answer which would decide if she had to suffer for the next hour or so.
The man replied. "We will not force you to pleasure us, no. I am Azur El Exodus, the girl hugging you while bawling her eyes out is Syr. I saved her from a plantation. This one is Zesshi, the secret soldier of the beloved Theocracy. You see, she is an elf as well, at least in part, but due to her strength the Cardinals decided to use her as a weapon instead of a prostitute. Sadly, it seems her brain is not functioning at a hundred percent, as she believes that the elves are not suffering, and she also thinks that she would not be forced into slavery had she lost her powers or were born without them."
Hearing his explanation, a dark expression emerged on Elena's face. She was still not sure of her situation, and if she were played by these people her fate would be sealed, as they could easily beat her for what she was about to say. But she honestly didn't really care. If this poor soul hugging her could betray her, then she wanted nothing to do with this world, so she gambled. "Look at yourself Zesshi, you are appealing to these kinds of monsters. Small, fragile, young and cute. I promise you, you would live a very busy life here. All kinds of customers would come and pay a premium just to break your dignity. As for the 'elves not suffering' just look around you. There is a fucking plier for Gods' sake! This one is used by those masters that do not mind paying the extra silvers for hurting us. With that equipment, us chained to the walls they force out a few of our teeth in order to take it with them and brag about it to their friends and showcase it somewhere in their rooms!"
Taking a look at the hammer, she shook and started tearing up. "And that.. That is used by customers that have the 1 platinum for ruining our body forever, usually beating us to death. Nice fucking life we live here, yes!" Syr hugged her even harder, and Elena returned her embrace, crying her sorrows onto her shoulders.
Finally, Zesshi grasped what was going on outside of her knowledge. With weak knees, she slumped onto the bed, while muttering an "Oh fuck" under her breath.
A/N:Next chapter will be the biggest yet and it will contain a pretty interesting fight.
I am not 100% sure as I've read it a long time ago, but I think ABD's God Rising had a similar scene with a prostitute. As I've mentioned in the previous chapter, a few slave scenes resemble his, as he wrote like 200k words just detailing how the life of the slaves are in the ST. The story will be different from his, so don't worry. If you haven't yet, it might be a good idea to check out his fanfiction.
