Chapter 4: The calm before storm

With a cry and a swift motion Briar decapitated the last remaining beowolf. The small field was covered by the dissolving bodied of grimm. Briar wasn't tired, but needed to catch a breath.

"Well... Looks like giving blowjobs isn't the only thing you're good at afterall. " Vic commented, rubbing his left shoulder, where a beowolf tried to bite him a minute ago. Briar held back a not-very-kind remark, deciding to ask a question instead:

"How's your shoulder? Did the beowolf like it's taste?"

"It's all right. My aura absorbed it." came the answer. Briar didn't say anything. She folded Aelom up and put it on her back, then headed into the woods. After a long silence Vic spoke: "You know this makes as partners, right?"

"Yes, I know." Briar sighed dissapointedly. What was she thinking?! She just gave up her chance to talk to Summer for being partners with the dick who called her a slut. The further they got into the forest, the darker it became. It even got to the point where they could barely see.

"Gee... It's like some cheap horror movie." Vic noted. "Where the main characters are out in the woods, then suddenly a monster attacks them."

"You have nothing to worry about." Briar said, patting her Aelom.

"I'm not worried about myself. I'm worried about you." that made Briar stop.

"Really?" she couldn't help but ask. She was quite perplexed. For some reason it was really hard to imagine THIS guy worring about HER, especially after he called her a slut. Multiple times.

"Yeah. Don't you know the rules of horror? The whore always dies first. " That's Summer lost it! Before her brain could even process it, her leg moved and kicked... something. Suddenly, something next to them gave an ear-piercing screech.

"I have the feeling that what I've just kicked, wasn't you."

Glynda Goodwitch was looking at her scroll. Everything was going smoothly so far. She couldn't help but be worried. When the decision has been made to raise the number of the students, they had lower the requirements of getting into the academy. Since then, they had to intervene multiple times to ensure the students safety. She was shaken out of her thoughts by Velvet Scarletina.

"One pair reached the temple."

"Which one?" asked Glynda.

"Summer Schnee and Liana Belladonna-Xiao-Long. "

"They will be troublesome. " Glynda hummed. "Last night I cought them disturbing the other students." she explained as she saw the strange look on the younger woman's face. Troublemakers just like their parents. She didn't even know what they were doing. The other students were, as bad as they were in it, all fighting grimm. But those two were just running, letting the grimm chase them. She was quite eager to see what Miss Schnee could do. Not because of her parents, but because of Mr Arc's suggestion. Miss Schnee's application form came in way too late and she didn't even take the entrance exam. The only reason she got accepted was because of Mr Arc's insistence. (And maybe a very small bias from Glynda, though she would never admit that.) But she still had her doubts. The commotion yesterday and... whatever she and her partner were doing wasn't very reassuring.

"What the hell?!" Lia exclaimed angrily, looking over her shoulder seeing no grimm.

"Well... Looks like we accidentally got rid of them." Summer noted. "I mean, thank Gods we finally got rid of them! I have no idea what we would have done otherwise!" she yelled.

"And how are WE the first ones to reach the temple?!"

"The others stopped to fight off the grimm they encountered while we just ran past them. " Summer explained. She really should have thought about that. In her defence, they really weren't that fast.

"Just perfect..." Lia mumbled as they got closer to the temple. There were pedestals with cards on them. "Do you think we won't be on the same team if chose from different piles?" she asked hopefully.

"If only... " Summer sighed and took a look at the cards. There were 4 symbols a heart, a leaf, a pumpkin and an acorn. Some of them had numbers, some had pictures of people painted on them. In the end, she chose the one that had four pumpins on it and a woman in the middle, holding wheat crops.

"So... What should we do, Grand-plan-master?" asked the cat faunus. Lia wasn't really known for her patience, but realized that being the first ones to reach the temple and finish the task would not make them seem incompetent.

Summer didn't say anything. Waiting would be the easiest, but that would also be suspicious.

"We make our way back. " she said loudly then whispered. "As slowly as possible." Before they could do anything however Lia straightened and her catears perked up.

"I heard something. " After a few seconds Summer was able to hear it too.

"It's like... screaming." Suddenly a somebody slammed to the ground not too far away from them.

"Ouch. That's got to have hurt." Lia winced. Summer decided to carefully approach the guy, see if he was okay. When the dust settled she was able to recognize him. Coat boy, from yesterday, or... Vic? If she remembered correctly.

"Are you all right?" she asked.

"Yeah, I'm okay." he groaned. His aura seemed weird. It was shining very brightly, but not flickering. It must be his semblance. Summer concluded.

"So what sent you into orbit?" Vic gave her an unimpressed look.

"Funny you should ask... Your whore of a sister kicked a giant Nevermore in the face!" Summer let out a snort. Briar wouldn't just kick random grimm. This guy must have really pissed her off.

"Speaking of..." Lia mumbled as Briar ran out of the woods, out of breath, axe in hand. She quickly folded her weapon up and stumbled to them.

"I think I shook it off." she panted, then sat down into the grass to catch her breath.

"What hell is wrong with you?!" Vic yelled.

"What do you want?! I already apologized!"

"Shut up!" Lia interrupted them. "Both of you! You make my ears hurt!" Briar and Vic didn't say anything just glared at each other in silence. Briar got her flask out and started drinking, while the blonde dusted his coat of. Summer was a bit surprised. She really didn't expect any pairs to get along less, than she and Lia did.

Speaking of, Lia was eyeing the other pair suspiciously the whole time. Especially Coat boy. Summer decided to investigate.

"You know each other?" she asked. Not wanting to be full on Briar and ask if they were together or something. Lia looked away and mumbled something like:

"Friend from school." Summer's face dropped. Seriously Lia thought she was this stupid?

"Yeah, that's why you're looking at him like you want to kill him."

"I'm not... Just..." the cat faunus stuttered. "I don't wanna talk about it. " Summer decided to leave it like that. She wasn't really the one to deal with other people's problems, if it couldn't be solved by beating someone up. Her life was enough of a shit show, she really didn't need to hear about other people's troubles.

"Summer!" A voice called out for her. At the end of the field was Matt and the other students. Summer automatically started smirking as they got closer.

"Goosie. How are you? Have you managed to get your ass kicked by a pig again?" Matt gave her a dirty look.

"Just so you know, I killed two beowolves." he stated proudly.

"Wow. Now you're a real alpha." said Summer in a mocking tone. "And who is unlucky enough to be your partner?" Before he could answer however, sounds coming from the forest cut him off. Beowolves and ursais came out from the woods. More than Summer have ever seen. They were less like packs and more like an army. Well... Looks like they cought up to them after all.

Evevee: Thank you, I'm really flatter. When I started this I was really afraid, that I'm going to completly butcher the language, so it's a great relief to know that it's not the case.

The cards they use as relics are called Tell cards or Hungarian cards. (German-suited-cards according to wikipedia.) I decided to use because I wanted the relics to be something new and this came to my mind. The card Summer chose is an ace. In Tell cards each ace represents a season and Summer chose the Pumpkin ace, which has Summer on it.About the intervention thing: I know Ozpin said they weren't going to intervene, but I don't think he would just let all those children die. (At least I hope so.)
