Chapter 4
Disclaimer: Percy Jackson and the Olympians belong to Rick Riordan
Kano's first Capture the Flag didn't go the way he had planned it to. The game started with Annabeth and others from Athena's cabin planning out the battle. "Alright team, you know the rules. Get the flag, in and out. Blue team! March forward!" Then she ran towards me, "Kano, your role is border patrol. You see that line of trees over there, that's your job. Don't let anyone but the blue team go through." and she's gone. Kano shook his head and headed towards the trees.
"Wow, border control. How exciting… Nothing is happening, just me and the trees." Kano muttered to himself. He was in badly fitted armor with a wrongly balanced sword. Kano had asked the Heapthetus' cabin to make him a sword that will actually fit him, now it was just a matter of waiting. The sky was clear, everything was quiet. Kano tensed, too quiet.
Suddenly, a group of people from the red team came tumbling from the trees. They stopped at the sight of him for a second before yelling and charging at him. Kano sidestepped a blow from one of them, caught the arm of one before pulling it down and kneeing the stomach. Both of them went down winded. The girl, Clarisse, turned red and yelled "You're gonna pay for that punk!" charging at him with what seemed to be an electric spear. He couldn't dodge in time and it sliced his arm making him tense and cried out in pain.
"Have fun being electrocuted, newbie!" Clarisse stood over him about to bring the spear down before suddenly her hand slowed down and she lost her balance. "What the hell!?" she cried as her leg came over her head and she was flung over Kano into the bushes. Kano quickly jumped up grabbing his bleeding arm before being tackled by a dude he thought was unconscious. They rolled around before pain spread across his face as the son of Aries punched him. Kano punched the guy in the neck forcing him on his side before putting a sword at his neck.
As the others came up to the scene to see Clarisse bend over a bush, unconscious, a bunch of other guys scattered around. One was up on a tree hanging by his shirt. Kano standing over one of the guys with a sword at his neck, a bleeding arm, and a bruised eye. Kano opened his mouth to say something before Annabeth appeared beside him, a baseball cap in her hands. Kano couldn't say he was surprised but he was certainly angry.
"You set me up! You knew they would be here to pulverize me!" Kano shouted, pointing his finger at her. The sun flickered. Annabeth shrugged before saying "I was going to help but it didn't seem like you needed any." but that didn't calm Kano down at all. If anything it made him even angrier. "That's not the point! The point is that you made me a pawn. As if I'm getting no more worth than to just be a sacrifice. You didn't explain or ask at all, you just gave the order and left!" Annabeth frowned, her plan had worked she didn't see why Kano was getting so worked up. "So what, my plan worked, didn't it."
"Yes it worked but what I don't like is your attitude with human life." "You wouldn't have di-" "I wouldn't have died in a game. But what happens when you're out there fighting monsters? Are you just gonna treat everyone like a piece of the chessboard there as well?" Kano shouted. Annabeth looked taken aback, obviously not expecting this. Luke ran up with the flag, smiling before reading the situation, and dropped the flag down.
Suddenly Annabeth looked up and everyone gasped. Kano looked around to see everybody wide-eyed staring at him. Chiron came forward to see what was happening only to look in shock. Kano was fed up and asked, "Why is everyone staring at me?". Annabeth pointed to his head and said "Kano, look, above your head."
Kano looked and sure enough, there was an image on top of his head. Black surrounding with a few flickering lights and small objects spinning in a circle inside. Kano suddenly realized that it was a picture of the other space, stars, and planets. He gasped as a warm feeling rushed through him. Is that the symbol of his godly parent? But who is that?
Then everyone started to kneel as a clap of thunder rang through the sky. "Perseus" Chiron said, "Primordial of the universe. All hail, Kano Williams, son of Perseus the primordial."
Then it suddenly rained, heavily. People looked fearfully towards the sky and shot fearful glances towards Kano. Chiron rose and gestured for everyone to go back to their cabin and rest after an exhausting day. As people left, people from the Aries cabin carried their fellow siblings away to get treated. Kano tried to go with everyone else before he was stopped by Chiron.
"Wait, Kano, you're no longer a member of Cabin 11," Chiron said, his hand settling on Kano's shoulder. "Since we don't really have a cabin for you, you'll be staying at the big house for now." Kano stared at him, weren't kids whose parents are minor gods that don't have cabins staying in Cabin 11? Kano voiced his thought aloud but was answered with "Ah, unfortunately, that is the case, but your situation needs to be taken delicately. No doubt the gods have heard news of your claiming and are currently discussing it." thunder rang through the clearing at that very moment.
Kano sighed but followed nonetheless. His clothes are soaked by the heavy rain, his boots are covered in mud by the fighting. Kano looked at his arm only to find everything healed. His cuts, bruises, and his eye stopped aching as well. Huh, thanks I guess, he thought to his… father before following Chiron towards the big house.
A/N The primordial is a different form of Percy Jackson (the character, not the series). There are no records of a primordial of the universe unless you count Chaos who is the first every being that made the universe. Please review and tell me what you think!
