Mina's POV
Finally!
Mina leapt out of her bed, appreciating how no acid shot out of her arms while doing so. She was finally better! The medicine from the doc...
Her body shuddered as she remembered what had happened that day. Truth be told she still half expected the green haired doctor to show up any day with a lawyer's letter for what she did. She destroyed his entire clinic! And after she had been told not to move!
That's it. She needed to make it up to him in some way. But, for that, she was going to need some help.\
Pulling on her shoes, she jogged towards the restaurant.
Izuku's POV
"Thank you!" He gave a casual wave to the bank staff, some kind of lamb man, who bowed to him and bid him farewell.
Truthfully he hadn't felt this relaxed in a long time. The money Ms Yaoyorozu had given him was enough to pay for all the damages, with some leftovers as well. His financial status was basically secure for the next few months, heck if business was good he might even be able to expand.
"Doctor Midoriya!"
Turning around, he saw Miss Yaozoroyu waving at him.
'Miss Yaoyoroz…"
He trailed off as he noticed that by contrast to the modest coat she had worn that day, she was now wearing a shirt that exposed a lot of her figure. Now that he thought about it, she was wearing something similar that day but he had basically tuned it out in the rush to save her arm.
Coughing out the last syllable and forcing his eyes to lock onto her face, he grinned at her and walked forward. "-zu! How's yo-"
But a blur of white and brown landed shot beside the two of them before he could get any closer.
"Hey, back off!"
Blinking in surprise, he took a step back from the newcomer. She was even shorter than him, with long bunny ears and tanned skin. She was dressed in thin white leather armor, the kind that emphasized mobility rather than protection.
His eyebrows raised slightly. A Jackalope? These were rare. They were a race of rabbit people, with strong rabbit paws for feet and bunny ears. They were also renowned for their physical prowess, especially their leg strength, being able to sprint faster, jump higher and kick harder than many species. Because of this they were traditionally warriors, almost all of them entering the ranks of soldiers or becoming highly sought after mercenaries.
Yaoyorozu quickly stepped forward and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Miruko, this is the doctor that helped me. Midoriya, this is my bodyguard, Miruko. "
A flash of understanding seemed to go through the bunny lady's eyes. "Ah, so you're the guy that did my job for me."
"Yes. Are you a full time bodyguard? Why didn't I see you that day?"
"Oh, I'm not exclusively working for her family." Miruko pulled out a deep fried carrot from a small pouch he hadn't noticed and took a bite. "I got hired after the stunt she pulled last week."
"Stunt?"
"Ahaha." Yaoyorozu blushed and looked away. "I… may have snuck away from my carriage to explore the lower class areas?"
Ah, that explained the lack of bodyguards and followers someone of her social status should have had. He had been wondering why she was all al-
"You're injured!"
His train of thought was brought to a screeching halt when he saw the wound on the jackalope's thigh. It wasn't noticeable, it was likely from an arrow or bolt. The wound was small, but it was deep, and more importantly not dressed properly. Rather than the robust bandages and padding he expected to be on it instead there was nothing more than a band of rough flesh-colored cloth wound around it, which had since loosened exposing the wound, looking more to prevent it from hindering her movement than for any medical benefit.
"Oh that? Yeah, I got that from a crossbow bolt. It's alright."
Now, it was true that jackalopes had crazy robust immune systems and accelerated healing, beating out almost all monsters of similar constitution. Many of his classes had drilled into his head that if there were two creatures with wounds of similar severity 9 out of 10 times the jackalope would be attended to last as they could survive longer.
But that was the key point, they would be attended to last, but still attended to. He could already see that the skin around the wound was red, a telltale sign of imminent infection.
"Let me help." He had cleaning alcohol and sterile bandages in his bag, he carried them wherever he went.
"What? Don't bother, that's nothing."
"Wha- that's not nothing. The wound's at least half an inch deep. It won't take long, I'll just-"
"I said don't bother." her tone remained even, but a bit of coldness had snuck in.
He closed his eyes. Just when it seemed like he had broken his streak of encountering irresponsible patients with Yaozoroyu, this woman showed up. "Look, whether you like it or not, you need medical attention. So let me-"
"What are you saying?" the bodyguard's tone had suddenly taken on a harsher, more challenging tone. "Are you saying I'm so weak that I need a doctor?"
What. Where did that come from? He stared at her, dumbfounded, as her glare became more fierce, almost daring him to say something.
Izuku considered his options. Normally when faced with someone like this he could do one of three things. Placate her and steer the conversation elsewhere, confront her and argue it out, or a combination of the two.
Nah, pure placation wasn't going to cut it now. He could tell that people had been yielding to her since her childhood, as evidenced by her headstrong personality and the inpatient look like she was waiting for him to cave. Arguing with her wasn't going to work either, Izuku had a very healthy understanding of his physical limitations, if she lost her patience and took a swing at him she might decapitate him.
Third option it was then.
"I'm not saying that you're weak." Her expression was unchanged, so he pushed on. "I'm just saying that a wound of that size isn't good for anyone. It could get infected, it could sap your strengt-"
But using the word strength was a mistake. The rabbit growled and grabbed him, smacking their foreheads together. "Look, unless All Might just showed up overnight, I'm the strongest fighter in this town, so shove it!"
"Miruko!" Yaoyorozu finally chose to intervene. "Doctor Midoriya saved my life! Don't be rude!"
"Tch." The rabbit snarled at him and turned around. "I'll be waiting at the carriage, if anything happens just yell."
Miruko's POV
The bunny leapt from rooftop to rooftop, grinning from ear to ear.
This was it! After months of hard work, she had finally tracked down the kidnapping syndicate that had made her employers, all of them, so frustrated. She peered over the side, seeing the hooded man on an open topped carriage drawn by a centaur.
She had dropped off Yaoyorozu at her house and decided to pay a visit to a riverside bar before spotting him at the harbor leaving a small boat and hiring a carriage. He was dressed in a dark grey coat and his left hand was missing a pinky finger, both of which matched descriptions given by a few victims.
As expected, the organization was relatively well off. It had been a private boat, and he had paid full night time price for this long distance carriage, rather than coming in on a public boat and just meeting somewhere nearer the port. Secretly she wondered what other criminal enterprises they had, the ransoms they had managed to collect hadn't been that much, at least not enough to fund the expenses she had seen today on a daily basis.
There! The carriage was slowing down, and stopped in front of a small warehouse. This warehouse supplied oil and flint, so it was plausible that someone would be using it at night. Not stopping, she leapt over the road and landed on the warehouse roof, her padded feet making the landing almost silent.
She peered through a small hole in the roof. A large bunch of people were gathered inside the warehouse. As expected, only a few small boxes of flint and barrels of oil were piled by the door to give the illusion of it being full. In reality, the rest of it was filled with containers of weapons, sacks of unidentified goods and furniture. There were one or two small additional sealed storage rooms in the back, probably where they would keep their hostages or maybe for delicate items. Scattered around the place were roughly twenty of them, hooded figures. Some looked unarmed, although others had axes, swords and daggers with them.
Quietly, she dropped back to ground level. Twisting her body around, she slammed her heel into the wooden door, which flew off its hinges and shattered into driftwood, and burst into the room.
The hooded figures whirled around in a panic. Two of them raised their weapons, but she leapt over their heads and knocked them out.
Her eyes narrowed slightly at the weapons that had fallen on the floor. These were guns, muskets to be precise. Weren't these crazy expensive? Not to mention they were highly illegal and regulated so fiercely by the military that trying to get any was basically impossible, and the few that were lying around were fought so fiercely over it was almost not worth the trouble getting any.
The glint of metal caught her eye.
Ah fuck.
The rest of the room had gotten over the shock of seeing her and had drawn weapons. Normally this would be no problem, but at least five of them were holding shiny, brand new muskets. Muskets pointed directly at her face.
Miruko's muscles twitched with anticipation. They wouldn't be enough to kill or even severely wound her, but it would still hurt. This wasn't inescapable, but she needed to be quick.
The bunny leapt into the air, putting far more force on one leg so that she was horizontal by the time her body had reached where her head was. As expected, the men fired, but the bullets whizzed past her harmlessly.
Kicking off the ceiling, she dispatched the two nearest to her with kicks to the head, before tossing their bodies at the other three to incapacitate them. Someone tried to rush her with a sword, but she caught it and knocked him out.
A door beside her burst open. She turned, her arms up ready to beat the shit out of whoever it was inside, before her eyes focused.
A blunderbuss, pointed right at her.
Fuck.
It fired, and her world went dark.
